Spreadsheet Format for Workgroup Manager Import

Hey guys,
I am having some trouble figuring out the system used to import users into workgroup manager. I have a spreadsheet (.csv format) that I need to import, and the help says nothing about what needs to go where as far as name/lastname/password. I have tried importing with no luck as of yet. Is there a pre-defined spreadsheet format or is all of that declared using the screen just before an import?

Hi,
The Command_Line.pdf document over at http://www.apple.com/server/documentation/ has some useful information.

  • File formats for uncompressed video import

    Hello all,
I am currently trying out FCPX for a project I'm doing at work and am having trouble with import that I hope someone can help me with.
I am creating video test pattern streams using a Python app, with the aim of then converting the raw, uncompressed video this produces down to various codec formats (h.264, h.265, etc.) as required. I was going to use FCP to review pre-process the video, add audio etc.
From what I can tell, the app supports uncompressed video in both 8 and 10 bits but I can't get it to recognise the files my app produces (which are in 'standard' y4m format). Does this mean that you can only get uncompressed video from a direct camera import rather than from a standard file format? If you can import from file then what extension does it need to be recognised?
If Y4M is not supported could someone suggest a raw format which is supported and I can change the backend of my generator.
Any help you can provide would be great.
    Thanks
    Ian

You'll need to wrap this in something that FCPX can work with – MOV, MP4. etc. If you have software that can do this, great; otherwise, perhaps someone else will see this and chime in. Here is a list of supported formats.

  • Solution: Sharing Greyed in Workgroup Manager

I noticed there were a few different posts on this issue, but none of them with a solution. I would've replied to them but they were archived.
The simple solution is to kill or force quite the process pmTool. pmTool is a helper application for Workgroup Manager. It gets confused after awhile and just needs a fresh start. A restart will accomplish the same thing, but if you're running a busy server like mine, that's not an option.

    Hi,
I'm very new to osx server. I am relying on my ICT guy at my school to sort this problem. He cannot fix our greyed out buttons in WGM and is suggesting a fresh/clean install. I cannot let this happen as it means down time and I have kids with coursework deadlines etc....
I have tried restarting the server but this still makes no difference. I will try the other thing you mentioned tomorrow. Is there anything else you can think of? I am running 10.4.8. Would re-installing the OSX server 10.4.8 update cure anything?
We only set this system up 2 weeks ago so I don't have a suitable backup to use instead. The backup has the same problem.
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Workgroup Manager and Safari

I've got Mac OS X client machines using Active Directory for login credentials and Open Directory for Workgroup Management.
Recently I've been trying to change the Homepage within Safari but can't. After some testing and much frustration, I've determined that I seem to be able to change any other preference on the machine except Safari preferences.
Does anyone know a solution to this?
    Thanks

    Greetings,
I am experiencing the same problem. My clients are running 10.4.7, and my server is also running 10.4.7 Server (It's an Xserve). Safari only wants to load the silly http://www.apple.com/startpage/
I am only setting preferences at the Computer level, not user, nor groups. Hence I don't think it's conflicting with anything. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks,

  • Profile manager or workgroup manager

    Hi,
I've been using OS X server for a while but stayed on 10.5. Today I have to upgrade and I'm a little confused between profile manager and workgroup manager.
From my understanding they do both the same. Does Apple have the intention to stop WGM?
Are there any recommendations on one or the other? We're in a school with about 300 students. My feeling is that WGM has more setting but may be Profile Manager is more reliable?
    Thanks for your help, Guy

Profile Manager is definitely NOT more reliable, especially as the number of devices gets over 1,000 (speaking from experience and many Apple Cases later).
Profile Manager is "the" replacement for Workgroup Manager, but at this point is still not "a" replacement for Workgroup Manager. Workgroup Manager can do more as far as setting preferences.
For example, I can set all Google Chrome preferences for all computers in our district with Workgroup Manager. Can't be done with Profile Manager.
I can set Printing Preferences for all our computers in the district (which printers get added, if they should duplex, if secured printing is desired, etc) using Workgroup Manager. Cannot do that with Profile Manager.
Of course there are some things Profile Manager can do that Workgroup Manager cannot, but there are other utilities (Munki, DeployStudio), that can take care of that. Profile Manager is currently NOT a replacement for Workgroup Manager.

  • Workgroup Manager Monitor Resolution

    Hello,
I'm trying to run Workgroup Manager on my clamshell iBook 366 indigo, and I recieve a message that I need a larger monitor resolution.
How do I get around this?
All the other server applications run acceptably, except for Workgroup Manager which seems to need a 1024x768 resolution that I don't have.
I tried using Remote Desktop to administer it, but that doesn't work, and I don't know how to connect this old of an iBook to an external display. Is there some way to use 1024x768 as an unsupported screen resolution?
    Thanks very much.

You will need a computer that supports a higher screen resolution. The clamshell iBook, although wonderful in many ways, cannot run WorkGroup Manager. It cannot run any recent version of iMovie either. Its screen is just too small.

  • Line Drawing best file format for import in InDesign

i was wondering what is  the accepted and recommended file format for files to be imported in InDesign. I was under the impression that AI files should be saved as EPS but I just read an article that says that Adobe's Dov  Isaacs said that eps will be shortly obsolete. What should I do. I work on curriculum that contains both photographs and line drawing and we use tiff for the former and eps for the latter. Most of our line drawing is done in AI. Howeverwe have a cartoonist that sends us files in jpg format. What would be the best file format for him and for us as we draw in AI?
    Article link: http://www.prepressure.com/library/file-formats/eps
The future of the EPS file format
EPS is rapidly becoming an outdated file format which is being  replaced by PDF just like PostScript itself is also being phased out and  replaced by PDF. Don’t just take my word on this. Here is what Dov  Isaacs from Adobe said in a discussion on a PrintPlanet forum about the  future of PostScript: “ …Adobe will continue to support EPS as a  legacy graphics format for import of non-color managed, opaque graphical  data into Adobe applications (such as InDesign and Illustrator).  Although we certain do not recommend that new graphical content be  stored in EPS format (except to satisfy the need to import data into  page layout programs that aren’t quite PDF-centric — no need to mention  names here!), our user base should feel comfortable that there is no  need to worry about a need to convert their very sizable libraries of  EPS-based graphic assets.”

Yes, I drag the AI file in.
If after it's in place I need to change I can just right click and chose edit original make the changes and save and the illustration in inDesign will reflect the changes.
On the other hand I can make changes to the original and all iterations of the file will automatically update, say if I used the illustration in several documents.
As an example I had completed a set of documents for a new company, i.e., biz cards, brochures, product labeling, stationery, etc. and in their wisdom they decided to make changes in their logo, which, of course, is on everything. I opened the AI file with the logo made the changes saved and all the documents then reflected the changes. The only caveat to do this seamlessly is to make sure that your file logo size is the same as the original or you might have to tweak placement in the other documents
It is this interoperability that to me makes the Creative Suite so much more than the sum of their parts.

  • Disabling Keyboard Shortcuts for LDAP Accounts -Workgroup Manager...

I work in a school and all our students are on LDAP accounts. Recently some of the kids realized that hitting Ctrl-Opt-CMD-8 inverts the screen display. You wouldn't believe the amount of havoc this has created at school, especially when they do it to a kid’s account that doesn't know how to fix it.
Keyboard and Mouse are NOT one of the items under preferences for either groups or accounts in Workgroup Manager. Does anyone know if there is a way around this, or an alternate way of getting rid of the keyboard shortcuts for Universal Access, for either groups or accounts?
    Thanks
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Within the Workgroup Manager pane for Preferences, there is an option to manage Universal access. Within that section, there is a tab for 'Options'. You will want to change that management to 'Always' and leave the box for 'Allow Universal Access Shortcuts' UNchecked. This will, in effect, disable the usage of the shortcuts for a User or a selected Group account.
    Hope this helps out!!

    Hi Nalani500 ,
Yes, you can print the response in a PDF by following the steps suggested below.
    1) Go to the response file
    2) Select the response you want to print
    3) Click on Save as PDF button and it would save the selected response in PDF format.

  • Hi, I have problem with importing MOV files from SJCAM 4000. MOV files are in supported formats for Adobe Premiere Elements 11. But if I'm importing MOV file, only audio part is imported, video part is not imported. How can I solve this problem?

Hi, I have problem with importing MOV files from SJCAM 4000. MOV files are in supported formats for Adobe Premiere Elements 11. But if I'm importing MOV file, only audio part is imported, video part is not imported. How can I solve this problem?

    haben
From looking at the specifications of your camera (SJCam 4000), we know already what video compression your camera is using. It is H.264.
A H.264.mov file should be supported by Premiere Elements 11. On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 11 running?
Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer? And, are you running QuickTime and Premiere Elements 11 from a
User Account with administrative privileges? Please go to Premiere Elements 11 Publish+Share/Computer/QuickTime to confirm that you find
presets there for the QuickTime choice there.
What are the properties of these H.264.mov files - is it 1080p30 (1920 x 1080p30)  or something else? Do you know if this camera is recording with a variable or
    a constant frame rate?
Please review and consider and then we will decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • How to edit plists for a group in workgroup manager

hi I am an It technician in a School which has been windows based
Over the summer the school upgraded to a 95% mac network we still have a small windows network as one database would not work on Mac osx server
authenication and user accounts are also provided from the windows server's and also we are using a citrix soution to access windows apps from the macs
140 imacs have been rolled out and we have 2 mac servers with deployment studio apple remote desktop and workgroup manager which was set up with groups and access rights for staff and pupils.(i was not involved in initial setup)
Anyway I am starting to get my head round the mac side of the network but we are having issues where pupils are saving data to the local profiles when they log onto the macs and not the network shares that are allocated to their profile when they log on which means that when they log onto another mac their data is not there i have been asked if its possible to remove all local save area's from the finder and favorites pane's and only leave the pupils allocated network share, desktop and downloads as save locations is there a way the finder and favorites can be edited?
I am assuming that i edit a plist possibly and then replaced the edited one into workgroup manager
any help to point me in the right direction would be much appreciated
    regards
    Lee

Right have found the apple.com finder plist which of the options would i set to false to only allow the the shares as mentioned above to be visible and remove the other save locations
    regards

  • Workgroup Manager doesn't create home directories for OD accounts

I'm having an issue where home directories aren't created for OD accounts. My setup is as follows, the home directories are stored on the OD Master (the only Apple/OD/AD server on the network), and the home directory paths are filled as afp://192.168.1.254/Customers, fakeuser, /Users/Customers/fakeuser
This same pathing scheme works fine for local accounts, however for OD, clicking Create Home Directory and saving the account does nothing (no errors, nor folders created). If I ftp into said account, I wind up being directed to /Users (definitely not the expected behaviour)
I am deploying a web based upload system that I want to authenticate against OD users so as to share home folders and permissions with the ftp server, once I have this figured out I will be migrating a bunch of accounts to OD from local.

In addition to potential DNS issues, it sounds like you may be using the wrong procedure to define the users' home directories. You should never have to specify the paths manually; instead, define the share point ("Customers" in your case) to be automounted, and then it should automatically show up in the list of available home folder locations, with all the necessary paths predefined. Here's the full procedure:
    1. Run Server Admin, and select: the server name in the sidebar -> File Sharing in the toolbar -> Volumes & Browse under that -> navigate to the /Customers folder in the column view.
    2. Make sure the folder is being shared (with it selected, you should see an "Unshare" button near the top right of the window); if not share it with the Share Button (then Save the change).
    3. Select the Share Point tab under the file browser (NOT the one above it), and select the Enable Automount checkbox. A dialog will open asking for the automount details; make sure the Directory is set to /LADPv3/127.0.0.1, Protocol to AFP, and Use for is User home folders and group folders. OK the dialog, and be sure to click Save to make the change take effect.
    4. Run Workgroup Manager, and select Accounts in the toolbar -> Users (single person icon) tab under that -> some user account(s) you want to configure under that -> Home tab on the right.
    5. Select (None) from the location list and click Save (this wipes out any current setting, so we can rebuild it correctly).
    6. The Customers share point should be in the list of available locations (due to being configured for automount); select it, then click Create Home Now, and finally Save.
