Spreadsheet Password Protection

Is there a way to password protect a spreadsheet in Numbers for iPad?

Thanks Ashka - I could not find anything as well. I have several Excel spreadsheets that are password protected, but I cannot open them in Numbers for iPad. I thought perhaps I could remove the password, put them on iPad and then set a password. Password security would be an excellent addition to Numbers for iPad.

  • Can I password protect my numbers spreadsheet on my iPad

I just purchased my first apple ipad2 and I do a lot of spreadsheets in excel, I bought numbers and need to password protect my file so other family members can not get to my files. Can this be done? If so, how?
    Best regards,

Not with the Apple Mail app.
    There are two 3rd party apps that use webmail resources that allow secure accounts as well as multiple accounts;
For Gmail accounts use Secure Gmail, and for other accounts use Secure Webmail. Both are in the iTunes App Store.

I have a password protected excel spreadsheet, how can I get my iPads and iPhones to read this and save it password protected?

Documents to Go says that it, "Opens password protected Excel 97-2008 files", but does not say whether it can save them as "password protected".
    This might work for you.

  • Password-protected Numbers spreadsheet only opens in computer that created it

I recently password-protected a spreadsheet file on my iMac.  It works just fine when I open it on my iMac.  However, if I try to open that same file from my MacBook Air, it rejects the password.  It says that the password is incorrect.  When I try to open that same file on my iPhone 5s, I experience the same outcome.  Then I go right back to my iMac, open the exact same file and type in the same exact password, and it works just fine again!!  Any ideas?

    Hi tommo,
Sounds like a corrupted plist (preferences) file.
Quit Numbers, then do the following:
The file indicated in the discussion linked in Ian's post is: com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
    You'll find it at:
    Macintosh HD > Users > yourusername > Library > Preferences > com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
With versions of OS X after 10.6, the User Library is hidden. To get to your Library, start in Finder.
Go to the Go menu, press and hold the option key, and select Library. Double click Preferences, then locate and select com.apple.LaunchServices.plist and drag that file to either the Desktop or the Trash.
Then try double-clickig a .numbers file.

  • Password protecting a Numbers worksheet

    Hi gang!
I'm very new to Mac (bought my first MacBook 3 days ago!) and I'm just as new to iWork. I'm trying to use Numbers with old Excel spreadsheets that I've converted. One of the things that I loved about Excel is that you could password protect a file so it could not be opened or edited without knowing the password. I've been looking and looking and I can't find where Numbers does that. Does such a feature exist?

    Hello
I assumes that you have tell your system that it may use your password automatically (thru keychain).
If you did that it's like installing a secure lock … and put the key under the door-mat

  • How to password protect "Numbers" app on iPad.

It would seem that iPad users might like to password-protect other Apps as well. If there isn't an App to do so, someone should create one. No, I don't want to jailbreak to get the Cydia app.

There is at this time no way to put a password in the Numbers app nor on a Numbers spreadsheet, and as Michael said it's not something a third-party developer could add. You can suggest that Apple add a password feature via their feedback pages:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback
or you can look for a third-party spreadsheet app that does allow password-protecting a sheet. Documents To Go from Dataviz is a commonly-recommended app that supports spreadsheets, but I don't know if they support passwording.

  • Recovery a password protect excel file.

I have a password protected excel file and now it's corrupted and i can't open it. I tried to open_and_repair feature of excel2010 and different other stuffs, without success. I was wondering if there's a way to remove the password without opening the excel
files (i know the password). In this way maybe it'll be easier to repair the file. Is there a way to do this? What other things i could try?

    Hi,
There are several methods to recover Data in Corrupted Excel Files.
We can use the following methods to troubleshoot problems with opening or using Excel
    files:
Use a recovered copy of the document.
    Use the
    Open and Repair command.
Save the file in HTML format.
Save the file in XML Spreadsheet format.
If a chart is linked to the corrupted file, use a macro to extract the data.

  • Password protection

I can't seem to find a way to password protect either a document in Pages or a spreadsheet in Numbers. Any help would be appreciated (I am brand new to iWork). Thanks.

You're welcome. In case you don't know, the app for creating a disk image is 'Disk Utility.app' in the Applications > Utilities folder. Click the Add New Image icon to get this dialog:
You will get an option to keep your password on the Keychain. If you opt for this, there will be no protection to keep someone using your account from accessing the file. On the other hand this is a great convenience if you are confident about account access security and perhaps are only worried about the security on a flash drive file when it's out of the machine.

  • No password protection?

I'm trying to upgrade my old AppleWorks spreadsheets to Numbers as well as substitute Excel. Unfortunately I can't because there is no password protection in Numbers as there is in the 8 year old AppleWorks.
    Did Apple really forget this?
Numbers is really a great application from what I can see but won't be used in our design firm until it has password protection.

That was exactly what I was thinking also.
A good explanation of how to set it up once, is found at www.macworld.com/2006/10/secrets/decmobilemac/index.php
Then with one password, all your sensitive files are protected at once.
Of course this is no good if you want to send the file via mail and still protect it. The only easy way I found is to save it as a password protected PDF (via PDF button left lower part of the Print dialog box).
But here I discovered that you can not print all worksheets at once in Numbers !! What a bug !
Only if you export to PDF can you export all worksheets at once, printing is not possible !

  • Export in Excel, Password Protection

Although I don't use Excel much, I understand it is commonplace when sending an Excel spreadsheet as an email attachment to Password Protect it. I just converted a Numbers document to Excel via Export, but can't send it if I can't password protect it. I see nothing about this, either for Excel exportation or even for Numbers documents. Am I missing it somewhere? Help.

If you exported as an excel file, then password protect it in Excel. Use the security "tab" in excel program options to set a password to open the file.
Numbers does not support password protected files yet, submit "feedback" using that option under the numbers menu and request it.
    Hope this helps,
    jason

  • Password Protecting Files

Does anyone know of any good tools to use within a Java app that allow for the program to password protect the file before the user downloads the file? A specific example for our system is a user will click an XLS link that will call a servlet that will create the spreadsheet (using POI) and allow them to Open or Save it. At the time of creation, we need to password protect the file due to security regulations. We would like to find a solution that could apply to different file types, if possible.
    Thanks.

It would be to allow them to use the file after it has been downloaded. The concern is someone will use a public computer and accidentally leave a downloaded file on the machine. For the PDFs we create, iText has a password option so that works fine. POI, however, does not. We also have a few other types of files so we were looking to see if it is possible to password protect any type of file that the user has downloaded.

  • Create a password protected excel file

    Hi everyone,
I need to create a password-protect excel sheet using plsql.
Please if some one could help me with this ??
    Regards,
    Riddhisha Khamesra

there is no way directly from PL/SQL to make ExcelStarting with Office 2007, Excel's default file format uses the Open XML standard (ie basically a zip archive of XML and other media files).
You can generate such files with pure PL/SQL, but adding password security is another story...
    - Using a protection at the workbook level requires the creation of an encrypted archive.
    - Using a protection at the worksheet level is easier because the password itself is embedded (in an encrypted form) into the sheet definition.
Prior to Office 2007, there's the "XML Spreadsheet 2003" format. It opens the way to easy XML generation but it's limited (in particular, no password support, no macro etc.).

  • Can the iOS version of Numbers use password protection yet?

We have the whole iWork suite on our macs, but (so far) just Keynote & Pages on our iOS devices.  Before buying Numbers for iOS, I'm trying to figure out if Apple has gotten around to adding an option for password protection for Numbers documents.  I know the earlier versions of Numbers for iOS did NOT have that capability, but I haven't found anything about the current version.  Thanks!

Yes, it has! I opened up my new iOS version of Numbers and noticed a new Set Password option on the Tools popover list. I loaded one of my password protected spreadsheets into iCloud, and opened it in the new iOS Numbers. It prompted me for a password and let me in.
I made some changes then opened it on my Mac using the new version of Numbers there. Again, I was prompted for a password and everything worked as expected.
Also, on the iOS version, the Set Password option changes to a Change Password option if you're working with a password protected spreadsheet.
    Thanks Apple!

  • [URGENT] Is Password protected excel file allowed in SharePoint 2013?

    Hi Everyone,
My boss wanted me to upload some sensitive files into the SharePoint. So I want to use the basic password encryption in Excel Option to create passwords for each one.
Due to the unclear rules of SharePoint, it has broken down for several times. So this time, I want to ask professionals first - Can I upload password protected spreadsheets into SharePoint?
    Would Sharepoint allow that?
    Thanks for your ideas!

Yes, I can confirm the protected Excel file, whatever the Workbook protect or Worksheet protect, would be allowed by SharePoint site and upload without problem.
    Thanks.
