Spreadsheets Locking in Numbers

Not only am I experiencing locking whilst working on a spreadsheet (has to reboot) but the new version of numbers under IOS7 is substantially slower and the find operation that I use significantly as a Sales Representative to look up stock on hand is extremely slow ?

The simple answer is: You can't, at least not in the way you can protect Excel cells. A small consolation is that you can lock tables. So, you could create a table for your numeric masterpiece, select the table, and then choose Arrange -> Lock.Your work would be safe until someone chooses to unlock the table.
Another technique recommended in Apple's Discussion Forums is to do your work and then plant a rectangle over the area you don't want changed, select that rectangle, open the Inspector, click the Graphic tab, move the Opacity slider all the way to the left (0%), and choose Arrange -> Lock to lock the shape in place. The work beneath the shape will shine through but no one will be able to muck with it unless they unlock the shape and either move it or send it into the background.

  • Spreadsheets missing from numbers

Hi went to update my accounts for the week as I usually do to find that none of my spreadsheets were in numbers. Tried iCloud this morning not there. Tried restoring my iPad tonight and the folders show up then go again in a second. These are business accounts. I don't want to have to do them again from April 2012. What can I do????

I'm in the same boat. I think it's ridiculous to have to open another program to add tables. I'm experimenting with creating a row of text boxes, for example, if there are 5 columns, then I'd have 5 text boxes in a row, tight to each other, then I'd just duplicate the row. This works fine. However, on my site, midwestbikerides.com, the entire row needs to be highlighted.
Using the above method seems to leave a spot between each text box, without any background coloring.
I'm still working on it. If I figure it out, I'll post some info.
In the mean time, do a Google search for "iWeb tables". There is a table generator there that we can use with html snippets. I'm not to happy with that one though.

  • How do you open an Appleworks spreadsheet (.wks) in Numbers?

Is it possible to open an Appleworks spreadsheet (.wks) in Numbers?  If it is not possible is there a file converter out there somewhere?.  The oiriginal spreadsheet was created in 2004 on a MacBook running Appleworks.

Numbers '09 (but not Numbers 3.1) should be able to open an AppleWorks spreadsheet that was saved in AppleWorks running on a MacBook. That file would have the extension .cwk, though.
.wks is the extension for Microsoft Works, and I don't know of anything else that opens those files.

  • Cannot open spreadsheets in latest Numbers app - "Unknown Developer"!

Having tried very hard to keep using the iWork '09 versions of Numbers ( and Pages and Keynote),  I finally gave in and am now running a large and important spreadsheet in numbers 3.2 ( or whatever the latest version is). But now, every time I need to open this and other spreadsheets I get the the "Unknown Developer" message + "you need to use a more recent version"...!  Talk about adding insult to injury.
Can anybody advise on a, successfully running the new Numbers app and b,  even better, reverting to  the '09 version (I still have these on my mac)..
    Many thanks. Giorni

    Dear Ian,
Many thanks for this.  I was doing something similar for a while.  Now my concern is that once the new Numbers app has forced itself on me, and most of my spreadsheets updated to the new version, will it be impossible to roll them back?  even though I have the old apps still. Will experiment .
    Many thanks,
    Giorni

    Hi Giorni,
Wayne Contello has written a User Tip for working with the old and new versions of iWork.
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6991
The trick is to drag icons for both versions to your Dock. Right click or control click on each and Options > Keep in Dock. That puts you in charge of which version you launch.
Here is a screen shot of both Numbers icons on my Dock.
Numbers 2.3 (Numbers '09) on the left with a three column graph.
Numbers 3.2 on the right with a four column graph.

Both versions will run happily together. Just be sure which version is opening your document.
Instead of double clicking the document, run whichever version of Numbers/Pages/Keynote suits and use File > Open.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Unable to Lock a spreadsheet in iOS Numbers 2.0.1

I have a spreadsheet that I use mostly as reference but do update occasionally. I created these sheets on my mac but mostly access them in iOS. Recently I made a change in one of them and unlocked it the way I was used to- tapping the sheet and choosing "unlock". After making my changes I could not lock after tapping the circle in the upper left corner. The only choices were cut/copy/delete. Anybody know a fix other than relocking on my mac?

    HI Marc,
If you want Adobe Reader users to modify(sign) the PDF, then you have to apply the Reader extension rights on the PDF that can only be applied via Adobe Acrobat or LC Reader Extension server.
Kindly let me know what version of Acrobat you have so that i can let you know the process of appling Extended Rights for Reader users.

  • Can I Lock a numbers spreadsheet with a password to do not allow to copied?

If you simply wish to protect it from being copied, no. Adding the password will prevent it from being opened.

  • How can i combine different numbers spreadsheets into one numbers document?

I am migrating from Excel. This is easy to do in Excel but I can't figure it out for Numbers. I have created four different Numbers docs and I want to have them in one document, so i can move between them conveniently and also to create a single pdf file with four sheets...which simplifies emailing to non-mac users. Can anyone tell me how i do this please?
    thx lawrence

    Hello
Yes, select a sheet, copy it in the clipboard then paste into the main spreadsheet.
There is no built-in tool allowing exchanges between two documents.

  • Spreadsheets created in Numbers 3.0 won't upload

The subject says it all.  I can drag .csv and .xlsx files into the Numbers for iCloud beta desktop, but when I try to drag a spreadsheet created with the latest version of Numbers it deems it a file that can't be imported.

I'm having no trouble uploading iWork documents to iWork for iCloud in Safari.
Ultimately, the easiest way to save iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote) documents to iCloud is to save them to iCloud from within the application (File > Save and choose iCloud).

  • Is it possible to import a clarisworks spreadsheet in to Numbers

I have an old Clarisworks spreadsheet that I created prior to upgrading to Mavericks.  I would like to open it into the newest Numbers application if possible.  I'd appreciate any suggestions as to how to do so.
    Thanks

    Hello Peter,
I am one of the writer of the filter that LibreOffice uses to import the AppleWorks/ClarisWorks files ( and I have a lot of old AppleWorks/ClarisWorks files to do testing). Thus I have a good idea of what is implemented and what is not implemented ; of course, it alway remains the possibility that some files contain some caracteristics that can make the filter err, caracteristics that I have never seen :-~
         So normally,
concerning the word processing files, it must open all Mac files ( it can also open some files created by the Windows versions, but I have a small set of such files, so it may fails on some :-~ ).
concerning the draw files, it must open all Mac files, but the quality of the conversion in LibreOffice 4.1 is often very poor. It will be better in LibreOffice 4.2 but far from perfect.
concerning the paint files°, it must open all Mac files with the following known limitations : some bitmap with less than 16 colors are not retrieved ( this will be corrected later in LibreOffice 4.2), LibreOffice 4.1 can not retrieve some bitmaps which have a odd number of pixel in each row (this must be corrected in LibreOffice 4.2).
concerning database, presentation, spreadsheet files, none must be converted, ie. the basic filter which tries to retrieve the "valid" caracters must be called.
      osnola
° but the size of the bitmap is not retrieved, so the bitmap is recreated with a small size and you will need to enlarge it by hand

  • Last night all the spreadsheets disappeared from "Numbers" and likewise all the documents from "Pages."  What happened and how can I get them back?

All my spreadsheets and documents disappeared from my iPad.  Where did they go and how can I get them back?.

I have the same problem for spreadsheets (via Numbers app). My spreadsheets were present and working as of last week. And these past few days all of them just disappeared!
Any help or thoughts would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
    I'm on an iPad Air.

  • Is there anyway to lock the numbers down on ipad?

I am trying to find a way to keep the number pad locked down when typing on my ipad 2.  I need to do data entry using all numbers and the "next" button.

I don't believe so. I've never seen a Numeric Lock nor equivalent on the iPad's keyboard.
EDIT: I've found the following by Google Search but cannot verify that it does (or doesn't) work since I don't have access to my iPad. Report back with your findings.
EDIT 2: Watching that video, it's totally unrelated to what you're trying to do. I'll put the blame as a bad description on their part.

  • Lock personnel numbers from being edited

    Hello
I am in the middle of a system migration which is being done in phases; some personnel numbers have been moved and some remain in the legacy system.  Is there a way to lock the already migrated ones from being edited through PA30, PA40 in SAP?  The HR staff keep forgetting to use the new SAP environment so it is important to stop them from making changes in the old SAP.
    Thanks.
    PC

    Hi Patrick,
One more suggestion..if your client is not reluctant for a small core modification then take a look at subroutine sd_word_processing_put in SAPMV45A called in module sd_word_processing_put (screen 4152)
There is a local variable called da_display in it which you can influence based on the TDID that is in focus (just set it to 'X' if you want to lock a particular TDID).
Normally (SAPLV70T)LV70T-TDID contains the TDID that user has clicked on. If it is empty then it means the user is navigating for the first time into header texts (in this case you can read XTHEAD index 1 and see whether it is the same TDID that you want to lock).
So you can check whether da_display is SPACE and T180-TRTYP is V(change mode) and T180-TCODE is VA02 and then whether (SAPLV70T)LV70T-TDID is the id that you want to lock down and then set da_display to 'X'.
Even adding fields in additional data tabs is a repair technically may be you can try the above approach (if possible)..
    Hope this helps..
    Sri
