PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE HELP
and i dont want to restore my ipad coz its ios 6.1.2 and if i restore it...itunes will update my ipad to ios 6.1.3 and i dont want to update it...
The best place to go for help with third-party software is the developer's tech support and/or user forums. If you like, you can post a crash log here, and maybe someone will have a suggestion.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Step 1
Enter the name of the crashed process in the Filter text field. Post the messages from the time of the last crash, if any – the text, please, not a screenshot.
Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent one and post the contents – again, not a screenshot. For privacy’s sake, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)

IOS memory issues & springboard app crashing
I'm having an issue with my iPhone (and a 2nd level support tech had me run a diagnostic on my iPad and he said it is happening there too). Over the last month I've reset me iPhone four times and been given a new one in an effort to fix this and I'm kind of losing faith here.
What happens with my iPhone is that the battery appears to be off to the races in an effort to get to 0 as quickly as possible. I have all but one application (OmniFocus) with background app refresh disabled. Bluetooth is turned off. Location services are enabled but nothing is using them.
When I go in to see someone at the Genius bar they tele that the Springboard app is crashing and/or I'm having memory issues on my iPhone. Both my iPhone and iPad are running iOS 8.1.2.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? My guess is this is a bug in iOS 8 but I'm open to whatever idea will help me resolve this. There is no "callibration" for the home button. Anyone that tells you otherwise is as full of it as the Genius bar employee that says the button and device are working properly.
To prove it is hardware, restore the device as new. Do not install any apps. Try using the home button. Does it work consistently every time? If it does... there is an issue with an App or something in your backup. If it does not, then there is defnitively a hardware issue.
Press Apple on this to ensure the issue is resolved before your warrnaty is up. Might be as simple as having another Genuis at the Apple store evaluate the device. -
I USED TO be able to make phone calls using continuity on my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) with Yosemite (10.10) via my iPhone 6 Plus on iOS 8.1 without any problems. Once I updated Yosemite to 10.10.1, my iPhone's springboard would continually crash where it brings up the Apple logo and quickly restarts repeatedly until I end the call. Just so that you know, I am able to stay on the call while this is occurring the whole time.
I need to reiterate, this all started happening as soon as I updated Yosemite to 10.10.1 while still on iOS 8.1. I know this because I made a few phone calls (loving the feature), updated Yosemite to 10.10.1, then made a few phone calls afterwards, and this started happening.
When iOS 8.1.1 came out, I eagerly updated hoping this issue would go away, and it did not. I'm hoping Apple notices this post. If anyone else has this problem, please contact Apple and chime in this post as well. Thank you Apple for incorporating continuity calling. I love this feature, but need to use it without my phone's springboard constantly crashing.I have this issue as well. I am using an iPhone 6 plus, iPad Air 2, 5K iMac, and MacBook Pro. When I make a continuity calls from any device, the springboard crashes. This only happens with outgoing calls, incoming calls are functioning normal. I am currently working with multiple Apple Senior Advisors, and they are working directly with iOS a engineers. I have an active open case and will update this thread when a resolution is found.
Just a tip for everyone with this issue, restoring your devices and setting them up as new WILL NOT correct this issue. Save yourself the hassle. I did this with my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook and the issue still persists. -
I recently got a new phone from my new work- the iphone 4. It was previously owned by a co-worker and still had all his info on the phone. I activated it with at&t but didn't have my old phone for them to do a data transfer/backup. They gave instructions and it seemed really straight forward.
I followed their steps to backup and then data transfer all my songs, apps, calendar, etc. All seemed fine until the new 4 turned said "Springboard" had crashed. It entered safety mode too. My contacts transfered but not my apps. Everything of the new old owners is still on there.
I wanted to try again but it won't respond to iTunes - I think because it is in safety mode. I had my 3Gs for almost 3 years but I'm completely unfamiliar with "Springboard" and safety mode.
What do I do now?? I would like to avoid going to the at&t store as the wait it forever.
Also, I don't have iCloud yet- I don't know if this makes a difference backing things up but I really don't have money to get Lion yet.He had moved the iTunes Music folder to an external drive
Bummer.
Copy the entire \Music\iTunes\ folder to the external.
Plug it in to the new computer.
Hold Option and launch iTunes.
Select *Choose library* then select the *iTunes library* file in the iTunes folder on the external. -
Hello,
I wanted to report a bug in iOS 5.1 and higher (found on an iPhone 4 and an iPod touch 4th generation)
Here is something about the problem:
Summary: When you try to uninstall an Application by clicking on the "X", Springboard will crash.
Steps to Reproduce: Just try to remove an Apllication.
Result: SpringBoard will crash
Notes: Seems to be fixed when adding the folder "/var/mobile/Library/Application Support/Ubiquity/" (owner: mobile, group: mobile, chmod: 0755) to IPSW and restore to this IPSW.
Found on iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4th generation.
Affected Software: iOS 5.1 (9B176) to iOS 5.1.1 (9B206 and 9B208)

Please fix this in iOS 5.1.2 / 5.2 / 6.0
I hope I was able to helpSpringboard, as well as winterboard are programs used in a Jailbroken iPhone.
Springboard is the launcher for all iPhone apps (well, at least ones that you can launch). When jailbreaking and themeing came around, Summerboard was the first tool to manipulate how the Springboard looked. When 2.0 came around, Winterboard took over where Summerboard started.
Thus, Under the Terms of Use of this forum it is prohibited to discuss jail breaking. By jail breaking your iPhone you void any warranty you may have, forfeit any support from this forum, leave your iPhone vulnerable to malware and risk bricking your iPhone should you attempt future software updates or restoring your iPhone - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743. -
Workarounds for 2.0.1 app install crashes
Hi All,
This will be a long post, but hopefully of help to those suffering from the infuriating application related crashes and instability of 2.0 and 2.0.1.
For those just looking for the workarounds, jump to the bottom of this message. For those interested in a technical discussion of what's going on behind the scenes, keep reading.
After running a very stable iPod Touch on 1.1.3 for quite some time complete with jailbroken apps, I decided it was time to give 2.0 and the official third party apps a go.
At first I loved the new features especially the WPA Enterprise support and MS Exchange support which I think are brilliant, but then I started to notice all kinds of problems with crashes like most other people in this forum as soon as I had a few apps installed.
Basically the thing was horribly unstable to the point of being unusable, and I did about 10 full restores in the first two weeks, just to keep the thing going, and experienced dozens of cases of being stuck on the apple boot screen.
The crashes could be narrowed down into two types of crashes - one is crashes while trying to RUN applications, and the second is crashes trying to INSTALL or UN-INSTALL applications.
The first type - crashes while running applications would take the form of either an app crashing back to the home screen when launched, or causing a total system freeze or a spontaneous reboot either when launching an app, or sometimes while running an app.
Usually when this would happen most large apps (hint: memory hungry apps) would fail to launch, good examples are super monkey ball, cromag rally and enigmo. Repeated attempts to launch these apps would fail and eventually the device would spontaneously reboot.
In all cases, a full reboot of the device, (hold sleep button for 5 seconds, swipe to power off, then power on again) would allow the app to run again. The reviews of some apps on the app store are littered with complaints from people that the app crashes during launch - the irony is the app is NOT to blame, in all cases I have seen.
The second type of crash is a lockup and/or spontaneous reboot during app installation or removal either through the built in appstore application or via syncing with itunes. More often than not this type of crash would render the device unbootable with you stuck at the apple logo - you could tell this was happening because after a few minutes the apple logo would go darker, and the device is no longer pingable over wifi.
First the good news - for me anyway, 2.0.1 FIXES the first type of crash - apps crashing back to the home screen, spontaneous reboots and lockups when launching apps or using them. I haven't had super monkey ball fail to launch, or crash during play a single time since updating to 2.0.1 for example. Wahoo Apple.
When not adding/removing/updating applications, I now find 2.0.1 to be quite stable, apart from the usual Safari crashes, which seem to happen a bit more often than 1.1.3.
Now the bad news - the app install / un-install related crashes are NOT fixed in 2.0.1 or even alleviated, so these are what I will focus on in this message describing workarounds I have found and the reasoning behind them.
Ok here's the deal, with a bit of analysis the root cause of the problem is LOW MEMORY conditions that occur during the app install / un-install process. It seems to be a combination of increased system memory requirements of the 2.0 firmware in general (there is simply more stuff running than there was in 1.1.x, so there is less free memory) as well as what look like memory leaks (or at least poor coding) in both Springboard and mobileinstallationproxy. More on those in a minute.
In addition the emergency low memory handling of the system (maybe the kernel) seems to be broken in 2.0.x - once free memory gets below a certain point the system will hard freeze - this never happened in 1.1.x, at most it would cause a reboot if memory became critical and nothing could be done to free memory.
Ok, what is mobileinstallationproxy ? This is a program whose job it is to install and uninstall applications, basically, and did not exist in 1.1.x firmware. When an application is to be installed or removed either directly on the device or by syncing with itunes, this is the process that is launched to do it.
Problem number one - sometimes, this processes memory usage will grow enormously - there is typically only 60MB ram free no additional apps are running and background mailcheck is disabled. mobileinstallationproxy's memory usage will often climb to reach or exceed this amount causing an extreme low memory condition which will cause the Springboard to try to kill off unnecessary processes, but if it can't find enough memory the device will either freeze or spontaneously reboot - the reboot in the middle of application install / un-install corrupts the application state, causing more trouble later on.
Ok, what is Springboard ? This is the main application on an ipod touch / iphone which gives you your home screen, and manages the launching of applications, provides touchscreen input to applications, and also does additional memory management by asking applications to reduce their memory usage if free memory is tight, and will even go so far as to quit background processes to free up memory when memory gets really tight.
Problem number two - sometimes Springboard starts allocating large amounts (over 70-80MB) of memory itself causing a low memory condition - and it cant free up memory because it can't ask itself to quit! At least, not without rendering the device unusable, because you lose the ability to use the touchscreen......
This typically happens when Springboard is "regenerating the application map" which basically means it is looking at newly installed applications to find out details about them and display them on the home screen. This regenerating happens both immediately after application install, and during bootup (before the lock screen) if it wasn't previously finished. BIG PROBLEM.
What happens if the device crashes if you are half way through installing an app ? The answer is that when you try to boot up again Springboard starts regenerating the application map before you are presented with the lock screen - it looks like nothing is happening, but it is. Corrupt applications can cause Springboard to crash during this phase which means you are stuck in an INFINITE LOOP of rebooting showing the Apple logo, which is what many people have experienced.
Problem number 3 - if you have a LOT of applications installed, and just one of them gets corrupted during a crash, when the device reboots, Springboard will start rebuilding the application maps, but this can take a LONG time, and there is a TIME LIMIT on how long Springboard is allowed to run in this state! A watchdog process waits for Springboard to respond during bootup but because Springboard is busy regenerating the application map it doesn't respond. If it doesn't respond in a certain amount of time (approx 5 minutes) the watchdog will KILL Springboard, thus not only preventing it from finishing the job and letting you get to the lock screen, but possibly further corrupting data, and causing the device to freeze, as Springboard is an essential system process.
This is the reason why the system becomes prone to getting stuck on the Apple screen after just a single application becomes corrupted, if you have MORE than a certain number of applications installed. If you have few applications installed (less than approx 10) the situation of one app becoming corrupted is recoverable, and self healing, if you have many applications installed (over 20) there is never enough time for Springboard to finish the job before the watchdog terminates it - thus being stuck at the Apple Logo with no escape other than a system restore.
For anyone who wonders how I am gathering the data to form these conclusions there are two tools that I've used - one is freely available from Apple, and that is the 'iPhone Configuration Utility' available from here:
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/application_updates/iphoneconfigurat ionutility10formacosx.html
Which has the ability to show the local system log (console) of the device in real time, showing things such as:
Sat Aug 9 20:54:28 unknown configd[15] <Notice>: kernel memory event (93), free: 376, active: 1179, inactive: 770, purgeable: 0, wired: 5400

Sat Aug 9 20:54:33 unknown SpringBoard[16] <Warning>: Memory level is urgent (10), but there are no apps to warn!
A great deal of information about what is going on can be gained from watching this log file, and the program can be left monitoring even during an itunes sync.
The second way I have gathered data is by running top over ssh on a jailbroken version of the firmware. I don't endorse or encourage jailbreaking of firmware, but in this instance it has allowed me to gather invaluable data on the problem, and I would stress that the crashes that I've been chasing occur equally on standard and jailbroken firmware.
In particular ssh has allowed me to prove one hypothesis - when the device gets stuck at the Apple logo after an app is corrupted, and is in an unrecoverable state that requires yet another restore, if I quickly ssh in as soon as I can during the bootup phase, and delete all the Appstore applications from /var/mobile/Applications the device will almost immediately spring to life and has been "saved" from requiring another restore - this proves that Springboard is getting bogged down scanning the applications and once they are removed it will boot normally again and the apps can be reinstalled.
WORKAROUNDS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
The biggest problems here are (a) too many apps installed preventing bootup recovery once an app gets corrupted, and (b) low memory situations being encountered during app install / uninstall causing the corruption in the first place.
1) Don't install or update Apps using the built in Appstore application on the ipod/iphone. For reasons not entirely clear this is a very hit and miss proposition and there is a VERY high chance that you will get a freeze or a crash from doing this if you have more than a few apps installed, and end up in an unrecoverable state. Just don't do it, always sync apps across from itunes.
2) Free up as much memory as possible BEFORE syncing applications with itunes, and this applies both to installing and un-installing applications. The best way to do this is disable MobileMail from running in the background. If you have automatic message checking of any kind enabled MobileMail launches at bootup and runs in the background ALL the time, consuming approximately 14MB of ram, and this is often the straw that broke the camels back when memory gets tight.
To do so, disable PUSH, and change Fetch new Data to Manually, then either do a full reboot (sleep button for 5 seconds then swipe to turn off, then press to turn on again) OR launch mobile mail, wait for it's mail check to finish, then hold down the home button for 5 seconds to do a forced quit. It's imperative that automatic checking of mail is disabled, or it will immediately launch in the background again.
This step of disabling MobileMail to free up a bit more memory makes the most difference of all the things I have tried in preventing crashes during application syncing, so don't skimp. You can enable automatic mail checking again afterwards.
3) As much as it pains me to say, having downloaded over 30+ apps, if you want your ipod/iphone to be stable, until Apple fixes this issue, install as few apps as you possibly can - just the ones you really need, and not lots of gimmicky things you don't really need. Try to keep it under 20 at any one time, and you can do this on the Application tab in iTunes telling it to sync only selected applications. Keeping the number of synced applications down to a minimum makes a big difference, and means that even if you do get a crash during app installation it will usually recover. If you have lots of apps installed it will NOT recover by itself.
Good luck all, and roll on 2.0.2.If you DO get in the situation where the iPhone won't load and is stuck at the Apple logo, there is an alternative to Restoring: renaming the Applications folder momentarily.
Of course this assumes you have a way of getting to the Applications folder before the phone has fully booted. I am lucky as I have OpenSSH installed and when this crash occurs the WiFi has already connected, so I can (for example) log in and rename Applications to Applications2 and then back again.
The Springboard will start about 5 seconds after you rename the folder. This at least gives you an opportunity to back stuff up or try to remove the offending application instead of restoring.
I have heard that you can use iPhoneBrowser on Windows to do the same but not tested this. -
New iPhone 5 keeps crashing, help?
Okay, so I've just upgraded from my very solid 3GS (a bit slow albiet) to the brand new iPhone 5 which I'm very pleased with, I love it, especially since I've just got retina, Siri and all the rest of the stuff the 4+4S owners enjoyed. There is just a single complaint, the iPhone 5 keeps crashing, every couple of hours I will be doing something, browsing reddit, in messages, it doesn't seem to matter and it will bring strange lines down the screen and restart (I'm guessing it's some kind of kernal panic?) and sometimes springboard will just restart.
Is there any way I can find out what's going on, logs of some kind? Or is that all locked away safe from inexperianced users?
When it came yesterday, it was crashing every few minutes, I plugged it into iTunes on my Windows PC and started a restore, but my ENITRE PC froze up, which it hasn't done in months, is this a coincidence or is because the iPhone is plugged in? (communication issues with the phone perhaps?) - anyway, I did the restore and it is now crashing far less frequantly, every few hours as I said, but I could do to know why? I can't see it being a hardware issue, because it seems like iOS and springboard are just crashing out every so often....
EDIT: It's just crashed twice in the last 20 minutes, once when I opened Siri from the lock screen, and once while I was on the springboard... what on earth is going on??Springboard just crashed... not sure how much of this is just verbose output... and how much means something, it's a long one (Sorry!) - Would it be worth reinstalling iOS again?

-BrianHi Brian,
Ah, if it's part of the iOS that would explain why I didn't recognise the name - I searched the app store but found nothing obvious which was why I suggested contacting the developers.
When you sync your iPad if you have Console running you will see the Apple does collect crash reports:
01/08/2010 09:54:08 [0x0-0x131131].com.apple.iTunes[16063] 2010-08-01 09:54:08.123 MDCrashReportTool[30213:903] Successfully submitted the log at /Users/username/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/User Name’s iPad/aggregated-2010-07-30.plistusername
So Apple will be aware at some point but I do not know how to help you resolve this issue further.
Regards,
Colin R.
PS Unless there is anything specific to SpringBoard that is mentioned in your console log that would identify the possibility of a user fix? -
Have had 2 kernal panics, springboard has crashed twice now, i am setting it up as a new phone, to see if that helps.
Maybe it's stuck in a recovery loop? That happened to my 3GS once, there are videos on YouTube that can enter describe how to fix it, it was a pretty easy fix. Good luck!

How To Hide or Delete (Newsstand) From Yor IPONE or Other
How To Delete (Newsstand) From IOS 5 or Other?
That Is Easy To Hide it But You Can't Delete With Out Cydia
But I Think The Best Way To us is Hide From Your Screen And That Is Easy!!
When You Want To Creat New Locations To Icon From Screen Try To Put First Icon
To The Second Icon And Try To Move The (Newsstand) Icon Fast To The Location's
Bar And That Is All You Have That Annoy Icon Inside The New Location.Just found this!
It IS possible to put Newsstand in a folder, you just need to trick your device into letting you, and you need to be quick about it. Simply follow these steps:
Take two apps and go to create a folder
The second the apps are in the folder and it’s doing the folder creation animation, drag Newsstand into the folder
As long as you’re quick enough Newsstand will go into the folder!
(It took me about 5 trys, but it works!)
If you open Newsstand while it’s in a folder your springboard will crash. If you want to use Newsstand at some point just take it out of the folder and you’re good to go!

I am very disappointed with the battery life I am getting out of my Iphone 5S 64G. I charge it every night, and would be lucky to make 15 to 20 minutes of calls during the day and yet I am lucky to get much more than 12 hours of life out of the battery.
I have to make a conscious decision not to use it to avoid it running out on me. I had it back to the Apple Store last week and they ran diagnostic checks on ot and said that the hardware was within specs.
They replaced the software as it was showing that Springboard had crashed on several occasions. The other problem I was complaining about was that at least 2 or 3 times a day, the phone would refuse to wake up when I hit the home button. It would take sometimes up to a minute of pressing the button before anything would light up. The guy at the Apple store said that this was caused by Springboard crashing and that this would also be what is reducing the battery life.
I did notice that after they replaced the software, the waking up problem appeared fixed for a few days, but the battery life had not improved. Now the waking up problem is starting to return.
It is very annoying and somewhat embarrassing when you are with a client and go to make a call and your shiny flashy new Iphone 5 won't even light up. Especially when you have to borrow your clients Nokia....My best bet would be to restore the phone. Back it up to itunes, and then reset it Factory settings. This way, any corrupt software will be removed, and you can start fresh. Make sure you back it up first. By the sounds of it, you are using the phone for business and probably need the data from it. Hope this helps!

Why can't I put News stand into a folder?
I want to know why I can put iBook into a folder but not Newstand? I have no intention of using it right now and don't want to look at an empty stand on my page. Any suggestions?
There is a work around for Newstand to be added to a folder like with all the other apps:
First, take two apps and create a folder. Second, as soon as the apps are in the folder, drag Newsstand into the folder too. As long as you’re quick enough, Newsstand will go into the folder!
This next step is vital as if you dont follow this step then you will crash Newsstand:
If you open Newsstand while it’s in a folder your springboard will crash. If you want to use Newsstand at some point just take it out of the folder and you’re good to go! -
Since I got my Apple Watch on the 24th, CarPlay has been acting strange. Here are the issues I've noticed so far:
I can not get Siri to activate in any way shape or form. Previously, certain apps would activate Siri upon launch in the car. For instance, opening the phone app would immediately have Siri ask me whom I'd like to call. I was also able to use my "hands free" button on my steering wheel to activate Siri at any time. Now, since I've had the Apple Watch, Siri never activates.
The podcasts app constantly causes Springboard to crash and restart. This happens not only when playing a podcast, but sometimes just browsing them.
Music controls are hit and miss. Sometimes the onscreen music playback controls work and sometimes I have to look at the Music glance on my watch to control the music playback.
Is anyone else experiencing these or other issues?
P.S. In case it matters, I've got a Pioneer Nex-8000 head unit in my car. CarPlay was working very well before I got my Apple Watch, so I'm assuming this is an issue with iOS/CarPlay/Watch and not the head unit.I have been working with computer since 72 and still do not understand them. All is working, for the time being. I will run it through its paces a few more time to believe that it straightened itself out.
I would still like to know if I am able to delete an apple application and reinstall it? -
Jumpy/Wonky GPS on iPhone 5?
When I use RunKeeper on my new iPhone 5 the GPS track is all wonky. Even though I walk (or jog) straight down the sidewalk the GPS information has me jumping all over the place. And it isn't just RunKeeper because I have tried several apps and they all show the same wonky track. See the attached screenshots. These are two programs that I had running at the same time (one ran for my entire walk, one for just part of my walk). Find the "1 mile" mark on the RunKeeper screenshot, that same jump in the track can be found at exactly the same spot on the other screenshot. This tells me this is not a problem with the apps, it is a hardware or iOS problem.
This has happened several places in suburban Austin, TX. This is outdoors on neighborhood streets so there isn't any issue with line-of-sight to the sky.
Any thoughts as to what would make my GPS act like this? Is this indicative of a bad GPS unit? Thanks for all of the help!
MatthewUpdate: Saw an Apple Genius today and she said that she thinks it is because my Springboard was crashing constantly. She did a firmware update and that did seam to fix it, however she recommended that I didn't restore from my backup as that may be what is causing it. Well, if you think I am going to redownload all 250 of my apps, you have another thing coming for you! Am about to do a restore and see if my Springboard continues to crash...
