Sprint Palm Centro 690 D062 (Gandalf) Custom Rom - Help

I am unable to install a ROM update that I unzipped and rezipped from the ROM files that I extracted from "Centro_1_07_SPNT_DesktopUpdater" installation package from Sprint.
These are the steps that I took.
(First, I tried things verbatim)
1. Unzipped the Centro_1_07_SPNT_DesktopUpdater.exe archive.
2. Copied the following files to an SD micro card
(system)
gandalf-htc-tpl.zip.md5.pdb
gandalf-htc-tpl.zip.pdb
gandalf-ipl-dvt.md5.pdb
gandalf-ipl-dvt.pdb
gandalf-ipl-ev1a.md5.pdb
gandalf-ipl-ev1a.pdb
gandalf-ipl-ev1a_el.md5.pdb
gandalf-ipl-ev1a_el.pdb
gandalf-ipl-evt1.md5.pdb
gandalf-ipl-evt1.pdb
gandalf-ipl-evt1_el.md5.pdb
gandalf-ipl-evt1_el.pdb
gandalf-ipl-evt2.md5.pdb
gandalf-ipl-evt2.pdb
gandalf-ipl-p.md5.pdb
gandalf-ipl-p.pdb
gandalf-palmos-tpl.zip.md5.pdb
gandalf-palmos-tpl.zip.pdb
gandalf-spl.md5.pdb
gandalf-spl.pdb
(application)
gandalf-palmos.zip.a.pdb
gandalf-palmos.zip.b.pdb
gandalf-palmos.zip.c.pdb
gandalf-palmos.zip.d.pdb
gandalf-palmos.zip.e.pdb
gandalf-palmos.zip.f.pdb
gandalf-palmos.zip.g.pdb
gandalf-palmos.zip.h.pdb
gandalf-palmos.zip.i.pdb
gandalf-palmos.zip.md5.pdb
(launcher)
RomUpdater.bprc
RomUpdater_enUS.oprc
3. Inserted the card into my phone and installed the RomUpdater files using Resco Explorer 2009.
4. Copied the system and application files to RAM.
5. Launched the RomUpdater (typed "gand" at the so-called prompt) and successfully updated the ROM.
(Then, I tried to re-zip the files)
6. Merged the application archive pieces into a single gandalf-palmos.zip file using O'Razoff's PDB2ZIP rexx script.  Validated the MD5 checksum, "c5796e49382c400b5c6d0303f7d78001," (using DiamondCS MD5 checksum program) against the MD5 checksum embedded in "gandalf-palmos.zip.md5.pdb".  They were the same.
7. Back on the PC, unzipped gandalf-palmos.zip to a new directory.
8. Re-zipped the unzipped files from this new directory into a new archive with same name as the original, "gandalf-palmos.zip," using Winrar. (I.e. I did not change any files in the archive.)
9. Split the new archive into 2MB parts using O'Razoff's ZIP2PDB rexx script.
10. Calculated the MD5 checksum using the same program as above.
11. Overwrote the checksum embedded in the "gandalf-palmos.zip.md5.pdb" file mentioned above using Orebro's VbHexEd.
12. Copied the new application files onto SD Micro card.
13. Repeated steps 3, 4, and 5.  On step 5 got MD5 checksum error.  I was unable to proceed further.
My reasoning was that if I could get an unaltered, but re-zipped, ROM to install, then I could try adding/removing applications.
I noticed that the original gandalf-palmos.zip file was 17275 KB, whereas the Winrar archive was 17250 KB (fast compression) and 17283 KB (normal compression).  So, I experimented with a few zip programs to see if I could get the zip file size right (7zip and Info-Zip).  No luck, the 17283KB file produced by Winrar was the closest.
My questions are:
1. Is it even possible to do what I am trying to do?  (My instinct tells me that it is.)
2. What am I doing wrong?
Any insight would be appreciated.

Wrong forum. You need to find one with lots of skilled hackers, not the official site.

You are asking a LOT of Basic Questions that can be answered by reading the User Guide that is included with every Palm on the installation disk.
It can also be read by going to Palm.com and the suport page for your device.
You add programs with Palm Desktop and the Hotsync application.
Ad-hoc refers to Wifi.  Not possible.
    Wifi: not possible.

  • Palm Centro 690 - for Verizon

Hello - I am hoping that someone can help me - I have just recently received my new Palm Centro from Verizon which I have had for a week now - The problem I am encountering is - there are times that I hit the power button and it goes on without a problem and there are other times that it does a hard reboot - WHY does it do that - am I hitting something to completely power it down?
There has been 2 times already that I have to take the battery out and put it back on in order to turn the palm on - and
There has been a couple of times that that I hear almost a static noise and then it goes to a hard reboot -
Can anyone explain to me why this does this??
thank you for any help that you can offer - I really happy with this device but if it is something that I cannot rely on then I am going to have to possibly return it.

    In response to your questions;
    1. - will I be able to have all the old information that was on my Z22 on my centro ~ OR will I be starting from scratch?
You will have the data from the Z22. The renaming of the backup folder only affects the settings, 3rd party apps., etc. in the backup folder.
    2. - After I rename the old back up folder  ~ Do I have to reinstall the Verizon Centro program?
NO, the beauty of this method is that the only thing you need to do is rename the backup folder to backup.old, Hard reset your device and sync. You should be back in business without all the hassles you have been experiencing.
    3. - After I rename the old back up folder ~ do I have to choose a new username?
NO, you will sync with the same username so you can get all your data in the existing username to the Centro.
Make sure before you sync, after renaming the backup folder to backup.old and the hard reset, to set the conduits to desktop overwrites handheld.
If you follow the instructions in the previous post, you should be A-OK.

  • Windows Vista & Palm Centro 690 not talking to each other

After my other phone went through the wash machine I changed to a this Palm unit.  Activated it, came home and installed the sync software, worked fine.  Couple of days later tried to sync again, no such luck.  I have been working off and on for a couple of weeks trying to get it to work again!!!  I have talked to the local Verizon office, they suggested I talk to tech support.  Called them, spent over an hour on the phone with them uninstalling the software, again, download the new software, again, still nothing, did a reset and a format and again nothing.  Have been using the Palm as a regular phone and it is fine.  I have been unable to figure out what to do.  I even talked to Hp tech support, not their problem!!! talk to the palm people.  So here I am, I have looked through your forms but was unable to locate anything that is related to the Centro and Vista.  I am almost willing to try anything that seems reasonable.

    From the bottom up.
Palmdestop 6.2, on a 32bit HP Pavillion a1740n, When I plug the usb cable into the phone I hear a "dull thud" like and error, then it just repeats it self. I was able to find this information the other evening:
Problem Event Name: - PnP Driver Not Found
    Architecture: - x86
    Hardware ID: - USB\VID_0830&PID_0061&REV_0200
    OS Version: - 6.0.6001.2.10.768.3
    Locale ID: - 1033
Hopefully this means something to you, as it doesn't to me.  Additionally last night I was trying to install new drivers through device manager from the CD, but the machine reported that what I have is current, as well as the dialogue boxes go by so fast that it is next to impossible to do anything, such as change the path.
Thanks, for your response and I hope you come up with a solution.

  • Will a att sim card work in a palm centro verizon phone

Long story, made short...I had a Palm centro 690 that got smashed,my carrier is with at&t,I purchased a palm centro 690 "verizon" no contract phone from e-bay without giving it much thought. Can i use my at&t sim card in it even though it's a palm centro"verizon phone?
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

No, you can't use a SIM card in a Verizon phone.  SIM cards only work in GSM design phones, while Verizon is a CDMA phone.  Totally different radio with no SIM slot at all!

Unlocked phones normally refer to GSM networked phones - a Sprint Centro has a CDMA radio in it.

  • Help with sharing programs/calender between two palm centros (sprint)

My wife and I have identical new palm centros and we want to share contacts and calender throught the palm software.  I have tried to name them both the same and the program recognizes 2 different phones so it wouldnt share...
is tere any way to share this with the two?
I am trying to do software also... games.. etc... medical software...
    help...
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

Hello and thank you for using the Palm Help Forums!
This is very possible. The easiest way is to beam the programs using bluetooth. Once bluetooth is enabled on both devices, from the main Apps screen, click the upper left hand side of the screen and you should see some menus drop down. Click App then go to send. Select the program you want to transfer and click Send.
Depending on the size of the program you are trying to send will determine how long it will take.
I hope this helps and let me know if you have any further questions.

  • Palm Centro Smartphone ATT Accessories are they all Compatible?

I have a new Palm Centro from ATT and want to buy some accessories from Ebay but since there is no number associated with my Smartphone, I can't figure out what is compatible? In other words will the Centro 685 and 690 accessories (docking stations, car chargers etc.) work on my phone? If not what will work? Thanks for any help!!!
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

Physically, all Centros are all the same size and have the same connecting ports at the bottom.  Docking cradles and chargers should all work.
Internally, there is a difference in memory and the network radio for some carriers.  Newer Centros from Sprint have 128 megs of RAM, and those from Verizon and Sprint use CDMA networks while AT&T uses one called GSM (similar to most of the rest of the world).
As long as an accessory is not carrier-specific (like a cradle from AT&T that forwards the calls made to your cell to your home line) any case, charger, or cradle should work.

  • Palm Centro GSM Unlocked freezing issues still unresolved?

Hi, I'm one of the many many (yes, we exist and we ARE MANY, even if Palm keeps ignoring us) unhappy Centro owners that purchased a smartphone that (ironically) doesn't work as a phone... I'm writing from Mexico and I bought a Palm Centro with Telcel.
I don't think it's necessary to again describe the problem because it's been discussed a lot here and in other respected and popular Treo/PDA forums... just google "Centro freeze" and you'll see for yourself.
I just wanted to know a couple of things:
1.Is Palm ever going to adress this issue as an official bug and offer a ROM/Firmware update solution or are they cowardly going to turn they're backs on us?
    2. Has anyone suffering from this issue tried the custom ROM update offered by some guy at TreoCentral and did it work?
    3. Flashing and/or changing the ROM of my quasi-phone voids warranty?
I hope someone can help us, the once satisfied and loyal Palm users now turned into desperate postin/ranting machines...

  • Palm centro giving "Please wait" every 15 seconds.

    Hi
My Palm centro is giving "Please wait" every 15 seconds, even if im doing nothing. When I am doing something its very annoying as It always freezes for one second beforehand.
ive tried a soft reset and a system reset.
what could be causing this and how do I fix it?
Post relates to: Centro (Unlocked GSM)

Hello AussieGuy and welcome to the Palm forums.
I don't recall hearing about this issue before.  Are you restoring your applications and data on the Centro after performing a hard reset by immediately performing a HotSync?  What happens if you don't restore your data right away?  Will the Centro start working normally again?
Have you checked to see if there is a ROM software upgrade available for your Centro?

    Hi,
a few years ago Palm released an update for the brazilian version of Palm Centro that solved an intermitent freezing problem whit incoming calls.
I have the files needed to upgrade the ROM but I forgot how to start the Palm Centro from SD Card as the updating procedures says that we need to copy all the files to a SD Card and start the phone from the card.
Can anyone here tell me how to start the Palm Centro from SD Card?

The built in applications on the device can't do what you are wanting, but with the vast many of third party software applications that are available for the palm os, I'm sure there is a program that will. I believe this program will
    http://software.brighthand.com/product.asp?id=2000&n=LightWav---MP3-Ringtone%2BCallerID-Manager
I however don't use it and you may want to double check with the vendor of the software, but it does say on the specs
Set custom MP3 ringtones for sms and voicemail notifications
Now that could mean two things to me, One it could mean you can set a custom mp3 ringtone for all sms messages, or you can set custom mp3 ringtones for individual ringtones.
I'd also suggest taking a look at mring it also seems to do what you are looking for

  • Palm Centro Carriername display

Hi I'm new and this is my first post.
In March I baught a Centro from England to use in Sweden with the carrier Comviq / Tele 2.
I noticed emedietly two problems one minor and one for me vital  error.
I reported the problem to Palm Support in Ireland and after over 50 mail trying to explain and even trying to help them correcting the problem I only got
replys like have you resetted the phone have you installed any program, you sertanly recognise the totaly ignoranse for take the problem seriously.
I got so upset so I reported the malfunctioning phone to VISA as a fraud and thankfully they have now refunded the hole amount for the purchase of the PALM Centro.
And I didn't even had to send the phone back. So I experimented with it  and  solved  the problem to get  SMS-Reciept to work and found a solution that I have posted
at TreoCentral and others have confirmed the patch to work.
The other problem with the Carrier Name Display in the phoneapp is more of an cosmetic thing and I haven't looked into it so deep because it's only cosmetic.
But I got some PM from people asking me if i have found a solution, and  I promised to look into it.  But I need some basic  information.
So what I need to know is where the Phone  Application reads this information carriername, is it from the SIM Card or is it from any database file like CarrierProfiles2.pdb or NetworkProfiles.pdb that is extracted from CarrierCustomisation.prc in ROM.
Any help appreciated because PALM seems not to care and it would be fun to solve before Palm is vanished.

  • Palm Centro SMS Lag

I've had my Palm Centro on sprint for about a month now, and it seems that it lags really bad when it comes to sending and receivng messages. In good coverage there is minutes and minutes of lag to the point where people reply to old messages ive sent after two new ones have been sent to them. There seems to be lag on incoming and outgoing messages. Also, a message often pops up that says an error has occured and the message couldn't be sent. Its getting so annoying! I need my messages when i get them! And I need to know that they are getting there when I send them. On occasion, people have told me they've sent messages but I've never got them! I can't stand it anymore. Does anyone know what is happening? I've discovered that locking the device may contribute to this. Is that true? Even so removing the lock dosen't solve the problem...Please help!

  • Palm Centro Sync Error

    Hi Everyone,
I recently upgraded to the Palm Centro and I love it, the only thing is I've been getting the same error message since the first time I synced with my laptop.  I've looked through the first 16 pages of this forum hoping to find some information and while I saw a few posts, none referred to the error message that I'm getting.
    Phone: Palm Centro
    OS: Windows Vista
    Connection: USB
    This is the error message:
    PMTraceDatabase
    Protocol Error
Handheld file could not be opened. (4004)
    SYNCERR_FILE_NOT_OPEN
Whatever help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

If you do a search on the forum for 4004 you will find many other posts about the error message especially with Vista. The Centro is relatively new and any extra information you can provide us will greatly help decode this error.
    1. Can you post all third party applications you have installed on your device
    2. What device did you upgrade from?
    3. Did you follow standard upgrade procedures that can be found here http://kb.palm.com solution id 12926
    4. Are you syncing through EAS?
    5. Are you doing a cabled sync, bluetooth, wireless?
    6. Are you using any other backup program, either through Sprint or another third party company?
    7. Are you syncing to Palm Desktop or Microsoft Outlook? (if outlook what version)
At this time with the limited information you have provided the only solution I can suggest if the soft reset as the previous person posted is to hard reset your device and follow the standard upgrade procedure that I provided for you on step 2.
Any other information you can provide that you believe might be of some use will be great also.
