Sprint : Tour vs. Curve 8330, Japanese

Hey guys,
I just recieved my Tour last night and have been tinkering with it on and off for the last day. It's pretty nice that Japanese fonts are supported out of the box (reading emails/texts/websites/etc), but I see that there is no support for input. I email Japan daily and think that support for such a feature would be vital.
I have 30 days to return my phone, but I'm kind of hesitant to do so. I saw that porting Japanese to the 8330 was pretty easy, so that may be an option?
I was also thinking of trying to download the SDK and see if I could go about developing an IME, though I think integration would be rather hard since I have no idea of the structure of RIMs OS (.cod files are encrypted).
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Tre

I have a Verizon Tour, but can't find where the number of rings is an option.  Could you kindly tell me where it is located.
Thanks
Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
There is no setting on the device...it is controlled by VZW...you must call them and ask them to increase the ring duration.
Cheers!

Please teach me how to do this...
I have been trying to install this since I bought Curve 8330 last year.
    Please somebody,,, please...

You're in luck!  Out of the 20 RIM hosted sites (and Verizon), only Reliance has "East Asian" for the 8330 - both v4.3 and v4.5!  Download it from here.
Once you've downloaded and installed it, and assuming Reliance is NOT your carrier, rename or delete the file
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\Vendor.xml
Also, if you're using Desktop Manager v4.7 make sure you have NOT installed the update module.  If you have, disconnect your network connection or DM will download an updated Vendor.xml and not allow the Reliance OS on your device.
You should find Japanese Language support when you install the OS.  NOTE: If your device already has OS v4.3.0.124 or v4.5.0.66, use that.  You'll avoid actually installing the OS and just install the language packs.

  • SPRINT BLACKBERRY CURVE 8330 QUESTION

    Hello Group,
{edit out personal information} I am thinking about purchasing a Sprint blackberry curve 8330. i was wondering if i were to travel abroad with this phone would i be able to use it in countries like the United Kingdom. and France?
    thank you,
    peter Stewart

Hello and Welcome to the Forums!
The easiest way for you to get an answer is to contact Sprint...they may or may not be able enable international roaming for you on that device.
Alternatively, you can research the radio capabilities of that model here:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/blackberrycurve8300/curve_specifications.jsp
Then check the radio frequencies in use by carriers in the countries you desire to go to. That will tell you if the BB is at all capable of "talking" to those networks. Then you can either activate an international roaming plan with the carrier (if they offer such) or, before you leave, get and use the unlock code from your home carrier and then, upon arrival in the other country, buy a local SIM and use that in your BB.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Blackberry Curve 8330 (sprint) only revievestext messages from sprint customers

I just got my first blackberry yesterday, its Sprint's Curve 8330, I have no problem texting back and forth between other sprint users, and all other users can recieve my messages, but when they text me back, the text never comes through to my phone.
    HELP!

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Since SMS/MMS are a carrier-provided function via your voice services with them, I'd suggest contacting them for assistance since it is most likely an issue with their provisioning of you on their network.
Unless you are using BBMessenger...in which case it would be different...
Good luck and let us know!

  • Update to Device Software 5.0 on Curve 8330

RIM sent me an e-mail today inviting me to upgrade my Sprint Curve 8330 to Device Software 5.0.  In the past, this wasn't available on Sprint devices.  My computer is a Mac, so I connected to Blackberry Desktop Manager and it said that there are no upgrades available. Am I able to upgrade my device software?

    Hi

Same experience with me.  Carrier is Bell Mobility.  I think BlackBerry has missed a step somewhere.  Mine says same message "no updates available" and takes me back to reference v4.5 which is my current OS.
Check the FULL OS version. 4.5 on its own is meaningless. Options > About 3rd line will show the full version on your device. For example, mine shows v5.0.0.681.
Then find your carriers' latest offering from here
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    and compare the two.
There is nothing preventing you upgrading to a newer version from a different carrier providing you navigate to the downloaded OS on computer C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\AppLoader and delete the file vendor.xml.

Most any store that sells BlackBerrys.... as well as eBay,.
Where are you? In the US, any Verizon, ATT, Sprint or Tmobile store would have that blue CS2 battery. It also fits the 8300, 8310, 8320 and the 8700 if I recall correctly.

  • Computer AND Device manger won't recognize Blackberry Curve 8330. .PLEASE Help

I have tried so many different things. . I am at the end of my rope.  My computer AND the Device Manager won't recognize my Blackberry Curve 8330 anymore.  It use to but then Sprint had me to do a hard reset and it hasn't done it since.  I am running Vista.  I have downloaded all different versions of the Desktop Manager, Blackberry Drivers etc.  I know that the USB works because it recognizes other devices.  Plus when I plug the blackberry in, the little plug shows up for about five seconds and disappears.  Plus when I unplug it and the blackberry screen is dark, it lights up so something is being recognized somewhere.  This is frustrating because I don't have my contacts backed up and I am trying not to do a hard reset to lose them again.  I have tried this on two different computers running Vista and the other XP.  I get the same result with both.  I don't know what happened to make both stop recognizing my blackberry.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can't open picture attachments on BlackBerry Curve 8330

I just traded my Pearl 8130 for the Curve 8330 yesterday.  While I think I made the right decision, I'm a little annoyed by the fact that for the most part, I can't open email attachments.  Keep in mind, this is when I actually use the Internet Browser to access my various accounts.  In other words, I'm actually going to www.gmail.com and www.hotmail.com.  When I get into my Hotmail, it'll show the paper clip signifying an attachment but won't give me any sort of option to open it.  It just lists the file name(s) and that's it.  When I go into my gmail, if I've got an email that only contains one or two pictures it'll usually open those.  But any more than that and it's the same deal with Hotmail, except that it'll actually have the "6 Attachments" link that I can actually click, but when I do it just lists the file names in regular type and there's no option whatsoever to open them.  It doesn't open any kind of thumbnail either.
It's kind of a bummer to me because I have a lot of saved pictures in my email accounts that I'd like to save on my phone as well.  If all BlackBerrys are like that, I'll just deal with it and shut up.  When I get email attachments in the accounts I've set up to go directly to my BlackBerry I can always open them, so maybe this is just normal for BlackBerrys.  But if mine is actually having a problem I'd really like to get it fixed.  If that's the case, does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do?  I already resent Service Books and took the battery out and put it back in.  That's all I've tried so far.  If all else fails I can just take it in to Alltel to have it looked at but it'd be nice to avoid having to do that.    I know there are other ways to go about this... I can always just manually move them to my phone's memory card from the computer and stuff.  Getting them directly from my email would just be a little quicker.
    Thanks, everyone!

Blackberry browser isnt exactly the same as a browser on your PC. It has limitations, such as sizes. when you added the email to your BIS account its now mail on your device which is the primary function of a blackberry. when using BIS or BES emails, they are designed to truncate if too big, but if you wish to look at more it gives you that option. www.hotmail.com is not designed to accomodate blackberry. Your best option is to stay to the BIS email option.
Not to mention it uses less of your data bandwidth to use BIS email rather than browsing to www.hotmail.com

  • Google Maps no longer works for my Verizon Blackberry Curve 8330. What is wrong with Google???

For the past 11 months, Google Maps and Gmail have worked wonderfully with my Verizon Blackberry Curve 8330. Tonight, all of it stopped working. I tried to load Google Maps and failed. Kept getting the error message "Network Unavailable, blah blah blah". I tried restarting the phone, removing and reinserting the battery, until I finally uninstalled Google Maps. Now when I point my browser (OperaMini) to m.google.com to download and reinstall Google Maps, it says "Sorry the Google Maps application does not work on your 8330." This makes NO sense. Why would Google suddenly remove support for my phone? Is there a work around? Before uninstalled, I tried all sorts of tricks with editing permissions to no avail.
Also, Gmail is refusing to check mail, occasionally saying that a data connection is needed. That also makes NO sense as I have great phone reception.
My internet (OperaMini) and normal calling and texting capabilities are unaffected.
In conclusion: Is there ANY WAY to get these Google applications to reinstall and work on my phone? Or has Google screwed me over? Any help would be tremendously appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Hyun

  • Curve 8330 not being recognized by the Mac Blackberry Desktop Manager . . .

I just downloaded the Mac version of BDM.  It's a long time coming, but I'm glad that it works.  I have a Pearl that was easily recognized by the software and easily synced with all my data.  However, I also have a Curve 8330 that will not sync.  In fact, when plugged into the USB port, the BDM doesn't even see that the 8330 is plugged in, it still sits there asking, "To beging, connect your device to your Mac using the supplied USB cable."
Any suggestions on what to do?
    Thanks.
    UPJ

I would suggest, first off, rebooting the Curve.
With the BlackBerry device powered ON, remove the battery a few seconds and then reinsert the battery to reboot.

  • Can't transfer calendar: Palm Treo to Curve 8330

I've been helping my husband switch over from his Palm Treo 600, using Palm desktop, to new BB Curve 8330. A salesman transferred name and tel #s only.  I've managed to switch most of his Palm into Outlook, and sync'd Outlook with the BB.  The only problem now seems to be that the calendar is not syncing over to the BB. Suggestions???
I have tried to sync setting configurations several different ways: to sync all or calendar only, to have Outlook override device, and two way.  Nothing will get the calendar over to the BB, although all his addresses and tasks are there now. Help!
    TIA,
    Michelle (for Chuck)

    Hi,
Outlook 2003 and desktop manager v.6 will be perfect!
Yes install the main email address on the Blackberry to match Outlook.
On the Blackberry you get a calendar for each email address you use.
Only one can be synchronized with the Outlook calendar.
You can go to Outlook, tools, email options and make sure of the default account.
Then on the Blackberry from the home screen, options, advanced options,
default services. Use the main email options CICAL is the calendar and CMIME is the email.
By placing them as default you then sync email address to email address calendars.
    Make sense?
Let me know if you need anything else!
