Sprite Sheets in Adobe Lightroom 4

How do I make sprite sheets in lightroom 4?

Is there any way I could import an already made sprite sheet with image and use the slice tool to separate the images into individual fields and then export those to something like TexturePacker? Also, does Lr have the slice tool haha?

  • Sprite sheet from PhotoShop CC 2014 layers to Edge Animate?

    Hi
    The Photoshop CC 2014 script that takes layers and generates a sprite sheet to the latest Edge Animate does not appear to work correctly. Unless I"m missing something very obvious (that isn't in the instructions below provided by Adobe), it doesn't take the seperate layers and seperate them out correctly in the output png file.   Any suggestions? Thanks -  would LOVE a quick answer -

    Hi Sharon
    You are right. Open the .jsx file in text editor of choice and change the function the following:
    function translateActiveLayer(deltaX, deltaY) {
        //see http://wwwimages.adobe.com/content/dam/Adobe/en/devnet/photoshop/pdfs/photoshop-cc-scripti ng-guide.pdf on how to use script listener.
        var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
        var ref = new ActionReference();
        ref.putEnumerated(charIDToTypeID("Lyr "), charIDToTypeID("Ordn"), charIDToTypeID("Trgt"));
        desc.putReference(charIDToTypeID("null"), ref);
        var coords = new ActionDescriptor();
        coords.putUnitDouble(charIDToTypeID("Hrzn"), charIDToTypeID("#Pxl"), deltaX);
        coords.putUnitDouble(charIDToTypeID("Vrtc"), charIDToTypeID("#Pxl"), deltaY);
        desc.putObject(charIDToTypeID("T   "), charIDToTypeID("Ofst"), coords);
        executeAction(charIDToTypeID("move"), desc, DialogModes.NO);
    Will PM you the updated script if needed. ( And also the blog post soon )

  • Adobe Edge sprite sheet doesn't show

    Hi,
    When importing animation from Edge to Muse using sprite sheet, I can see it work when playing automatically the Edge animation.
    But when enabling "Advanced 1 second every" feature, sprite sheet objects doesn't function.
    Any suggestions how to solve this?
    Thanks,
    Avi

    i did this before i started this thread ("do not download or install updates automatically")... it doesnt change anything.
    really, wouldnt be life easier if people would disable auto update on SAME window where updates popup? why we must spend our time for searching something that could be just next to info about new updates waiting for download? then wouldnt be this and thounds of other threads :/

  • CS6 Sprite Sheet animation alignment puzzle

    Hey all, I greatly enjoy using Flash CS6's Generate Sprite Sheet tool since it's much much quicker than exporting all the sprites and using TexturePacker (though I wager TP would provide far better optimization). One problem I seem to have is aligning different animations to the same origin - which isn't the origin of the sprite (top left corner).
    Say my character Jim has two animations:
    Run (small sprites, as he runs in place)
    Jump (short and tall sprites, and a bit wider than the Run)
    I currently generate a sprite sheet by highlighting both clips and right clicking. This gets me a perfect Sprite Sheet with both animations and their respective names (based on MC name). The Run and Jump frame sizes are different, because the Jump sprites are taller than the Run sprites -- this all makes sense.
    What doesn't is that there's zero information on how those two animations should be placed such that Jim can go from playing his run animation and then his jump animation with his feet in the same place, despite the fact that if you inspect either of those clips Jim is standing right at Flash's little origin point at the start of both.
    Sure, the data file (JSON in my case) has all the offsets for placing the individual frames in the right place, but how do I align Jim's feet from one set of frames to the next without having to do it all by hand? To date the only workaround I've found is to dump all the animations into a single timeline such that they all take the same frame size, but this is TERRIBLE for managing sprites and animations since it gives all the frames the same name as the combined timeline.
    What I really need is another set of numbers in the Sprite Sheet data file that tells me the frame x & y offset from Flash's movieclip origin. I have a suspicion this doesn't exist and is impossible.
    At a loss here other than aligning each animation's frame by hand, which may have to be done every time an interal sprite changes size.
    Thanks for any insight, none of the Adobe pages or demos go into any depth other than creating a sprite sheet of a single image or animation.

    Yes, I understand how to make animations blend together, but my question relates to the technical side of how sprite sheets are generated.
    When I generate a sprite sheet from multiple animation movieclips each animation has a unique frame size that Flash calculates and codes into the data file, and that frame size is not the size of document but the size of the smallest frame that can fit all of the sprites in the animation. I can't control this frame size or define a region within the document that is the frame size. Each animation within the sprite sheet could have a different frame size.
    I'm interested to know if there is a way to view, generate, or export the data that would relate one animation frame to another so that a character (Jim) could be standing at the movieclip origin in the Run animation which is size A and also be standing at the movieclip origin in the Jump animation which is size B, and not only are A and B different sized frames, but none of the corners are coincident. Since it doesn't do this currently I'd have to manually code the offsets of each animation to a common origin instead of being able to use the one that's already in Flash.
    I don't see how any of the default data that is exported along with the spritesheet PNG could relate that info and I'm very curious.
    (I could do it by putting every animation within the same movieclip, but then the spritesheet tool is pretty useless since it'd all be one animation)

  • What good are Sprite sheets in CS6?

    In Flash CS6 one can create sprite sheets. What benefit or relationship does this have to direct flash development? What is the primary purpose for Adobe putting this feature in CS6?

    The most direct use is if you use the Starling Framework for game development. Starling is an ActionScript version of the popular Sparrow framework. You can use sprite sheets to transfer you assets into Starling-friendly version.

  • Using Sprite Sheets?

    Hi
    I created a sprite sheet in Flash and imported it into Edge Animate, all is well.
    In Animate I now see the individual cells of the sprite sheet as Symbols, but now what? How do I actually bring each symbol into Animate to duplicate the animation on the Animate timeline? I'm just not seeing the forest through the trees....
    Thanks,

  • Bridge CS3 Workspace Adobe Lightroom Web Gallery Creator

    A while back I was looking around for an easy way to create sharp looking image galleries with minimal work, and I came across a workspace plug in for Bridge Cs3. If I remember correctly, it was labeled Adobe Lightroom Web Gallery something or another. Anyway, I recently formatted my computer and reinstalled everything, but for the life of me I can find no trace of that handy workspace plug in. Does anyone know where I can find it? It had a bunch of customizable flash galleries as well as a customizable html gallery as well. Any help would be appreciated!

    Do you mean AMG( Adobe Media Gallery)? You could download from LAB.

  • Using Adobe Lightroom with OSX Photos

    I love the iCloud integration of the new Photos app, it's really great having all my photos available on my phone.
    I also love the editing capabilities of Adobe Lightroom.
    Has anyone figured out a way of using Photos for the iCloud integration and Lightroom for the editing and post processing?

    Terence Devlin wrote:

    there is no way to sensibly use the two apps together,
    Yes, from the Photos + Lightroom together perpsective.
    But taking it back to the root, what is the best way to have the same benefits offered by photos (tight integration between iOS and LR)? If Adobe weren't so stingy with their cloud storage, it would be a lot simpler answer because you'd just stick the their storage and product suite.
    How can someone who takes a fair # of photos on iOS get those seamlessly to LR and conversely have access to their photo catalogues on iOS when they want to show them? I think the answer may be CC Photography + Smugmug but there are pitfalls to the smugmug iOS client (does not background sync,  nowhere near as good as Photos, does not integrate with other apps where you may want to use the photos collection).

  • Using Time Machine to back up an external hard drive dedicated to Adobe Lightroom 5

    I recently began to use Adobe Lightroom 5 (I continue to use Aperture, as I have for years).    All of the Lightroom image files and catalogs are on one external hard drive, which I use on my iMac, my Macbook Pro, and in the digital labs of a school where I'm taking a course.
    Not yet having developed a protocoI for creating a back up of all my Lightroom image files and catalogs that I could use in the event of my Lightroom-dedicated drive's failure, I have just done a drag and drop of the whole drive's contents to another external drive (which, as it happens, I have been using for some time for my Aperture vaults).
    I am thinking of removing the dedicated Lightroom drive from the excluded list of my iMac's Time Machine (which uses yet another external drive), so that I can easily and automatically create back ups of changes to the Lightroom external drive without having to do the cumberome and inelegant drag and drop at some yet-to-be-determined frequency.  (The Macbook Pro uses a Time Capsule for its Time Machine; I envision using only the iMac's TM external drive for Lightroom backups.)
    What is the simplest and most desirable way to actually execute the backup?  I envision that it would be this: that every time I want to do a Lightroom back up, I'd mount the Lightroom external drive on the iMac (or keep it mounted if my work session has just been on the iMac) and then ask Time Machine to "Back Up Now." When the backup is finished, I'd dismount the dedicated Lightroom drive.
    A related question is what if anything would be the effect on my Lightroom work if a Time Machine back up began while I was working in Lightroom? Or if for some reason an hourly TM back up began and I needed to quickly end a Lightroom session before the backup was completed?

    I am trying to install a registered copy of Photoshop Lightroom that I never installed on my Apple iMac with software version 10.10.
    I get the message “Adobe Lightroom 1.  Cannot be installed on this disk because a newer version of this software already exists on this disk”
    If it is here – I cannot find it anywhere, and I don’t believe that I ever installed it.
    I have ordered the upgrade to Lightroom 5.0 and figured that I should install Lightroom 1.0 first.
    How can I solve this problem

    Actually when LR 5 starts for the first time after it is installed it will have a dialog to Buy, Try or Enter a serial number. You select Enter a serial number and enter the LR 5 serial number first and then because it is an upgrade serial number it will ask for the serial number of a Previous version. You then enter the LR 1 serial number.

  • Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Bridge does not recognize the raw files from my Canon Mark III 5D Camera.

    Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Bridge does not recognize the raw files from my new Canon Mark III 5D Camera.  How can I get my files open to view and edit?  I am using LR3, Photoshop CS3 and Bridge CS3.  Do I need to upgrade these programs or is there another way to get these programs to recognize my files?
    When I try opening the raw images in Lightroom, the thumbnails say "Preview unavailable for this file"  ... when I click "import" an error message pops up that says "The files are from a camera which is not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom."
    When I try opening the raw images in Photoshop, an error message pops up saying "could not complete your request because photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
    When I try opening the raw images in Bridge, it just shows an icon with the file name and CR2.
    Please help!!!

    Unless I missed an announcement, today, LR6 isn't available, yet, right?  Only Adobe employees and beta testers would know what LR6 does differently at this point and they're all sworn to secrecy.
    LR5 is available as a standalone version.
    PS-CS6 is available as a serial-number-licensed version.
    PS-CC + LR5 are also available as a Photography Plan subscription for $10/month with a minimum OS versions of OSX 10.7 (and probably 10.8, soon) and Windows 7.
    Bridge is part of PS, not a separate program.
    LR5 standalone and LR+PS-CC plan are both available on this page:  http://www.adobe.com/products/catalog/software.html
    PS-CS6 can be found on this page:  Creative Suite 6 which can be found by searching www.adobe.com for Photoshop CS6 and clicking the Buy link in the on-the-fly search results.
    As with any new Adobe software, it might be wise to run it in trial mode for a few days/weeks to see if it works well with your computer, before purchasing and finding out you might need a new computer, first.

  • Adobe Lightroom 4 - Some Questions / Help Needed

    Hi everyone.
    After advice from several experts, I've just purchased Adobe Lightroom 4. I've already got Photoshop CS5, but I was looking for something proper to organise my photos, plus I found Lightroom easier to do the sort of editing I am wanting to do. Now, I only really use photoshop for things like colour pops, or really in-depth editing. Anyway, I'm loving Lightroom so far, but there is some stuff I'm not very sure of, so I'd appreciate some help
    1. Organising
    Firstly, I'm not really sure how to organise. At the moment, I've just got lots of folders with random events in My Pictures on W7, so I might have a folder called April 11, which contains photos from that month but that might have been a wedding or an easter holiday or both. So it doesn't really work. \
    I understand in Lightroom what catalogs are. But I know enough to know that I don't want to group mine into those, its getting too complicated. What I don't know though is the difference between a collection and a folder. Basically, I'm wanting to reimport and reorganise all my photos, so I want to put them into "events" as such like you can do on iPhoto on a mac, so I would have "France Summer Holiday 11" for example, or "Mia's Wedding". I'm not really sure on the best way to do this ...?
    2. Editing
    I've played around quite a bit so far, and I really like what I've seen. On a lot of photos, I've made a lot of changes. But from what I can see, these changes are stored merely in Lightroom itself. For example, at the moment I'm importing photos from my external disk into Lightroom, which then saves them in C://My Pictures/Lightroom/Pictures . When I go look at these photos in windows explorer which I know I have edited, it doesn't show any of the changes or editing I've done on them. Now I realise this is me being stupid, but why doesn't it? Supposing I then want to email that photo to a friend that I have edited? How would I do that? I don't want to have to open lightroom and export every single photo I edit? There must be a simpler way?
    Likewise for backing up, because all my files are in subfolders within C:// My pictures / Lightroom / Pictures, to back up I was simply going to set up windows to copy that latter folder onto my external HDD everytime I plugged it in. This would be pointless however if it isn't physically overwriting the original photo with my edited version?
    3. Editing 2
    Something else I like to do is make lots of different edits to the same photo. For example, at the moment I'm editing a photo of a pier at night. I spent ages adjusting colours and lighting and so on, and now it looks great. But I would also like to save a copy of that photo with the "old age photo" effect preset on. Is this possible? and how do I do it? Other than obviously importing a duplicate?
    4. & 5. & 6 - Misc:
    4. Simple question - how do I add tags, keywords or comments if I haven't done it on import?
    5. My camera doesn't have built in GPS. Is it possible for me to manually geotag photos (in a batch, say for a Summer Holiday to NY), could I manually add a geotag for all these photos?
    6. I also forgot to add copyright information on import for some, is it possible to do this after import and how?
    7. I normally shoot in JPEG. I probably shoot shoot in RAW as everyone tells me to do so. Are there any significant advantages in terms of quality, and for editing with?
    Thanks for any help given. I appreciate this is a lot of questions, but I could really use the advice.

    Hi William,
    1. Organising
    Firstly, I'm not really sure how to organise. I am not so sure if you understand *catalogs*.
    You need a catalog, exactly 1 in my opinion. A catalog is a database. The Lightroom database, where records about your images are stored, including the pointers to your images, which are not inside a catalog! LR backups just does the backup of the catalog (i.e. a file ending .lrcat). You need to take care separately that your real images are backed up !
    Inside your LR database the best way to organize is via collections - this will give you what you want with "France summer holiday 11" etc.
    Folders are relatively unimportant, just storage buckets. They should be *handy portions*, I would prefer them with below 3000 images each, as there currently some bugs to those bigger ones.
    Before you start with LR, you can organize your pictures in Mac Finder / WindowsExplorer.
    Or you could do it with the help of LR, by copying your images over during import into the destination folders (and deleting today's folders afterwards after having verified that everything is fine).
    A simple date-based structure will do, I'd recommend  a root parent folder like "LR images", underneath one folder per year (\2010\, \2011\, \2012\...) and underneath them either
    just one folder per month (LR can auto-create them for you)
    or you create the folders in import dialog as e.g. "YYYY-MM-DD description of shoot", to have a mini-diary overview also in your OS.
    Apart from that you create collections, either *dumb ones*, where you drag images into, or smart ones, where you specify criteria according to which they get auto-filled.
    2. Editing
    I've played around quite a bit so far, and I really like what I've seen. On a lot of photos, I've made a lot of changes. But from what I can see, these changes are stored merely in Lightroom itself. This would be pointless however if it isn't physically overwriting the original photo with my edited version?
    LR will never overwrite your original photos.
    You can save most of the catalog content into the xmp-part of the original photo, which is either a sidecar-file (.xmp) or part of the file format, like for DNG, TIFF, PSD, JPG. To do so you select the image in LR and hit <ctrl> s. Or you set it up for continuous update, which creates a lot of operations while you play back and forth in develop.
    I do that on my own, typically twice per file: once I am done with develop, once I am done with keywording and other metadata update.
    LR contains records about your images, i.e. a set of instructions how they are to be interpreted. That is all.
    So of course you need LR to export the result of these instructions, which is actually pretty quick.
    To backup your images you need to do that just once, plus you backup your LR catalog. Or if you save xmp to the files, you can do another backup once xmp is ready.
    I would not consider this pointless. You just have to think that there are 2 places with data for your images: the images themselves and a database with interpretation instructions.
    Yes, this is one of LR's beauties: you create a so-called *virtual copy*, which is just a 2nd record for the same original image file with different interpretation settings, like black-and-white, a different crop size, different development etc. You can have as many virtual copies as you like, and you'll see them as additional thumbnails.
    Virtual copies are not saveable into xmp, though. There is another concept which is saveable into xmp: snapshots. but these are different states in develop history, and you do not see outside develop module that you have several.
    If you export virtual copies e.g. to jpg one file per virutal copy will be created.
    4. & 5. & 6 - Misc:
    4. Simple question - how do I add tags, keywords or comments if I haven't done it on import?
    5. My camera doesn't have built in GPS. Is it possible for me to manually geotag photos (in a batch, say for a Summer Holiday to NY), could I manually add a geotag for all these photos?

    Thanks for any help given. I appreciate this is a lot of questions, but I could really use the advice.
    ad 4: you use the library module, metadata panel to enter.
    ad 5: you use the map module. Either you manually drop your images on a map, or you have a separate GPS track to load and have LR assign via matching time-stamps.
    ad 6: like 4
    ad 7: You don't need JPG from your camera, you can achieve better results viy LR from RAW. Yes, there are significant advantages as to editing headroom.
    Overall, may I suggest my favorite learning material for LR? First watch Julieanne's Tutorial Videos.
    Then go play and use Victoria Bampton's eBook or paper copy of her "Missing FAQs to LR4": http://www.lightroomqueen.com/books/adobe-lightroom-4-missing-faq/
