Spry accordion widget - SSI (server side include) as content in the panel

After having inserted the following command <!--# include file = "content2.asp" -> in the accordion Panel Content I get an error in Dreamweaver - every time I open the file. See the error in the attached picture.
Once all files are uploaded to the server it works apparently without problems or script errors.
Is there anyone who can help me to use SSI "server side include" as content in accordion panels?

Thanks for your reply.
The fault lay in the SSI file. This file contained these tag:
</ html>
And of course the tag </ html> generate an error if the tag is inserted in the content of the accordion panel via ssi file.

  • SSI (Server Side Include)

    Hi folks.
    I have installed J2EE SDK 1.4_03 and I'm interested in using it to develop my personal website locally on my PC. At a later date I wish to upload it to a paid web host.
    The reason I have chosen to run a server rather than just accessing html files directly from my hard-drive is because I would like to utilize SSI (Server Side Include). That's really all. I'm not really interested in doing anything too interactive between the viewer and the server! Not yet anyway.
    I have found various information online but nothing is working. I'm sure there is information that I am missing or something further I need to do to actually initiate it. The information I have found says to un-comment the various section in the file default-web.xml located in this folder c:\Sun\AppServer\domains\domain1\config for this to be activated globally. Below is a copy and pasted chuck of text that I have un-commented within this file..
    Secondly I'm putting my test html pages in the folder C:\Sun\AppServer\domains\domain1\docroot using the include syntax that I have found all over the net such as <!--#ECHO var="DATE_LOCAL" --> & others.
    I can not get the thing to work. I'm guessing there is more to it. For a start... am I putting my html pages in the correct folder for this to work? And Is there something I need to do to activate the ssi servlet? The only reason I'm putting my test pages in this folder is because the page at http://localhost:8080 says that I can overwrite the index file to replace it. Is this the correct place for this?
    Also this class has me thinking... org.apache.catalina.servlets.SsiInvokerServlet Am I suppose to download this separately and put it somewhere? If so where is it? And where do I put it? I am horribly confused and I can not find any further information on this.
    If anyone could help me out on this topic I'd really appreciate it. btw, I'm a beginner in this area... I'd really just like to server html pages with ssi features at this point. Nothing more. The server seems to be working.
    Thanks,
    Tane

    You can always use jsp:include or Apache tiles or something similar. I have not used SSI in a while, but you may want to check out those technologies, as they offer more than simply includes.

  • SSI Server Side Includes searchable?

    I'm creating a site that uses Server Side Includes to pull
    content into pages. The client wants to include a Search function
    to the site. My question is can a search function not only find the
    SSI pages but pull them up directly?
    Please see
    http://www.trainride.org/mtm_index.shtml
    The 2nd line of the bottom navigation are links that pull
    content into the page with server side includes. Is there a way to
    search and load the content pulled in by the server side includes?
    Any help would REALLY be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    Melissa,
    I believe that the search engines create their indexes using
    spiders
    that walk through all of the browser links in your site. The
    content of
    your SSIs get embedded into your page on the server, so there
    is no
    actual link by the time the page gets to the browser.
    So, I think you need to add a hyperlink to your SSI pages
    some (maybe
    hidden) place in your site so the spiders will find them.

  • What language should I use if I am a beginner to using SSI (server side includes)?

    I want to start using server side includes and understand how to also code them by hand.  What is the easiest way to begin?  Do I just php?
    -Kate

    First question you need to ask your Host is if they support server-side includes and which document extensions you can use.
    Common extensions:
    .shtml, .shtm, .php, .asp, .cf.

  • Problem in Server side includes using Tomcat

    Problem in Server side includes using Tomcat:
    I am trying out small programs in servlet.
    I get one example program for server side includes from net.
    The code is:
    <HTML>
    <HEAD><TITLE>Times!</TITLE></HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <P>
    The current time in London is!!! :
    <SERVLET CODE="CurrentTime" codebase="../servlet">
    <PARAM NAME="zone" VALUE="GMT">
    </SERVLET>
    </P>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    I placed this test.shtml file in tomcat-home/webapps/ROOT folder and i kept the servlet in WEB-INF/classes folder.
    I renamed the servlets-ssi.jar and i removed the comments for SSI in web.xml file.
    When i run the servlet separately, i am getting the correct result. But if i run shtml file with the URL : http://localhost:8080/Test.shtml,
    i am getting the result as:
    The current time in London is!!! :
    It is not invoking servlet program.
    CAN ANYONE HELP ON THIS!
    Thanks.

    Thanks...as u said I tried putting dir & found that
    my file was saved as Ch1Servlet.java.txt instead for
    Ch1Servlet.java......So that was a problem.Now I'm
    able to compile.Oh, yeah. Notepad will do that to you. I think when you save in Notepad if you put quotes around the name "Whatever.java" then it won't add the .txt.
    But on compiling I'm getting the following error
    package java.servlet.* does not exist
    package java.servlet.http.* does not exist
    package java.io.* does not exist
    Do u the reason for this??? The servlet stuff is java[b]x.servlet. For the io stuff, I don't know, I'd have to see your code. Either you have a typo or a corrupt installation.

  • Cannot Preview Server Side Includes in Browser

    I am working on building a new site using server side
    includes for the main header graphic and menu items. For testing
    purposes, I created an .html file with one <div> tag
    containing a single graphic and an .shtml file with the server side
    include code placed in the <head> area. (Doesn't seem to work
    if I place it anywhere within the <body> tag... not sure
    why). At any rate, I can see the SSI in the design view of my
    document, but cannot see it whenever I go to preview the page in my
    browser (Firefox 2.0.0.3). Everything works fine if I upload the
    files to my Web server and view them that way, but why can't I see
    the SSI when working on my local files? The Dreamweaver help files
    explain that I should be able to do so, but it's just not working.
    Well, I'm now at a loss and cannot figure out if I'm doing
    something wrong of if this is just a bug of some kind. Can anyone
    help me to solve this problem so that I can get back on track?
    Much appreciated,

    This is not going to work at all. You cannot place body HTML
    in the <head>
    region.

  • Server Side Includes

    I would like to create a website that allows the business owner to post information by simply updating a Word or Excel document and uploading it to the server.  I'm using a Server Side Include to bring in the .doc and .xls files.  It kind of works... I can see the data from these files, but the formatting is crazy and includes a bunch of extra characters.  I've set the extension as .shtml and selected "virtual" for the Apache server.
    I've searched the forums for an answer, but it doesn't look as this has been addressed.  Thanks in advance for you time!

    Ah, very good point.  I've actually tried that with some sample text and it shows up fine in my browser, but I had assumed that creating a page in Word or Excel wouldn't allow for the same level of functionality and aesthetic that I've created with the original page in Dreamweaver.  I will go ahead and play with Word to see what can be achieved.  Thanks and sorry for the newbie question!

  • Spry Widget as a Server Side Include

    I am new to using SSI. I guess one question is: does the
    include have to be saved as a .shtm or .shtml file? I am trying to
    take a Spry Navigation bar and use it as an include in a site I am
    building. I have saved it as a .html file and a .shtml file, but
    neither is working. It shows up in design view, but not preview in
    browser view. Here is the code of the SSI:
    <script src="../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBar.js"
    type="text/javascript"></script>
    <link href="../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarVertical.css"
    rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    <div>
    <ul id="MenuBar1" class="MenuBarHorizontal">
    <li><a href="
    http://www.j-boysentertainment.com">Home</a>
    </li>
    <li><a href="#"
    class="MenuBarItemSubmenu">Projects</a>
    <ul>
    <li><a href="../pamperzpro.html">Pamperz
    Pro</a></li>
    </ul>
    </li>
    <li><a class="MenuBarItemSubmenu"
    href="#">Creative Team</a>
    <ul>
    <li><a href="#">Jeff Reed</a> </li>
    <li><a href="#">John

    <li><a href="#">Jack Kelly</a></li>
    <li><a href="#">J. Skylar

    {imgDown:"SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarDownHover.gif",
    imgRight:"SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarRightHover.gif"});
    //-->
    </script>
    Does anyone see what I am doing wrong? Also, when I insert it
    as a SSI, does it matter if it is a file or a virtual?

    Create a page that contains ONLY this -
    <p>woohoo</p>
    and save it as woohoo.monkeybutt.
    Then create another page, click in the Design view, and
    insert a server-side
    include. Browse to and select woohoo.monkeybutt.
    Save this new page as "page.shtml".
    Preview it in the browser (with temp files enabled in your
    PREFERENCES).
    'nuff said?

  • Dreamweaver previews first Server Side Include Only (SSI)

    Dreamweaver CC and 2014 preview the first Server Side Include (SSI) only, even if the Adobe extension is installed (Using the SSI extension in Dreamweaver to create page headers | Adobe Developer Connection)
    How do I set Dreamweaver to preview multiple (more than one) SSI's?
    Example Code:
    <!doctype html>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    <title>Untitled Document</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <!--#include virtual="/content.shtml" -->
    <!--#include virtual="/content2.shtml" -->
    </body>
    </html>
    The code above will preview the text in "Content.shtml" but will not display the text in "content2.shtml".
    For troubleshooting purposes, I have reduced the content in each file to only single lines of basic text.
    Please advise. Thanks.
    Update:
    Dreamweaver Live View will show all of the server side includes. However the "Design View" and "Preview in Browser" will only show the one ssi.
    The following Preference settings are enabled:
    -Preview using temporary file
    -Show contents of included file
    Update 2:
    I discovered that server side includes have been removed from the Dreamweaver interface, inferred from this article: A Look at the Modernized Dreamweaver CC : Adobe Dreamweaver Team Blog. If Server Side Includes were removed, can they be added again using the Server Behavior extension?

    The issue is fixed in Dreamweaver 2014.1

  • SPRY accordion widget IE8 ONLY issue

    hello everybody,
    i noticed a strange "jumpy" behavior while using the spry accordion widget -- this affects IE8 only (currently using 8.0.6001.18882 on vista), other browsers (including IE7 and IE8 forced into IE7 mode) work as expected. this issue seems to be related to the margin property of the accordion container...
    not shure whether this behavior is related to IE rendering or the spry javascript code itself... anyway i made NO changes to the spry script (my version is 0.15, 1.6.1, which i believe to be most recent one).
    the xhtml (strict) and css are perfectly valid (there might be some MINOR css hacks which are not related to the accordion itself). i do NOT use ANY padding on the inner container of the accordion (which would definetely make the spry js count the tween in odd way). the accordions (especially the main menu on the left) are little more complex, but they were built according to the spry widget document, found on the adobe spry website.
    so, here it is -- check the accordion on the left side (the bug seems to happen almost always while opening/closing the last BLUE "section" of the accordion, please play with the accordion for a while to reproduce it -- while the accordion closes, it "loses" it's bottom margin (i guess), what's even more wierd, everything gets back to place after you move a mouse):
    http://www.prazskematky.cz/home.php
    PLEASE NOTICE: since the website is still under development and i'm using a IE meta tag to force it into IE7 rendering, to reproduce this behavior please be shure to switch IE engine to IE8 standards mode
    well, we all now how IE handles css... so it's propably an IE bug -- anyway if you have encountered a similar issue of even better found a fix, please let know. (i don't consider a fix switching to another js library, i would like to use the spry, because of it's DW integration)
    many thanks,
    p.s.

    Are you referring to what it looks like in Design view? If
    so, that's
    correct. Accordion panels have a fixed height. From memory, I
    think it's
    200px. However, if you test the page in a browser, you should
    see a
    scrollbar automatically generated on panels that have content
    that
    exceeds the height of the panel.
    If you want flexible-height panels in the accordion, you need
    to adjust
    both the CSS and the script that initializes the accordion. I
    have
    covered all the details in my "Essential Guide to Dreamweaver
    CS3" (and
    the forthcoming CS4 edition). You can probably find online
    tutorials as
    well. Try a Google search for Spry flexible height accordion.
    The accordion widget has been around since CS3, and it hasn't
    changed in
    CS4, so a Google search should bring up a lot of information.

  • Tabbed with Server Side Include

    Has anyone had any problems adding Server Side Include to the Spry Tabbed Pannels, everytime the I add a SSI to the tabbed content is locks up the tabs.
    Where the hell are to get support is this an interAKT, ADOBE or your on your own.

    Hello,
    I don't have an answer to your problem, because I've never tried this approach.
    However, I can tell you that this is an USER-TO-USER forum. If you need to request technical support from Adobe, you need to go here:

  • Server-Side Include or what?

    One of my sites:
    http://www.plough.com  has become more active, I need to do a redesign. One thing I have to change: the "Recent Articles" list has up to now been a library item. This worked fine as long as the site was small. But now checking out & checking in the whole site every time I list a new article is too much.
    So what is the best method to include a list like this? I've looked into Server Side Includes - the server is SSI, so there are a lot of restrictions (the include can't be in a folder higher in the structure than the page it is on?
    Seems like too much fuss. Is there any other way I could do this? All ideas welcome - I need to get some creative thought going.
    Thanks

    Another possible way is to use a spry dataset. (xml or html based) see -

  • Server-side includes question

    I preface this all by saying that I have never used a
    server-side include but am considering it based on a suggestion
    from a thread yesterday.
    If I created a server-side include file that contained only
    my title banner/nav bar and placed that file at the top of each of
    my pages, would it then be possible to have content (Flash, in this
    case) from an editable region in a template-based file display on
    top of that banner? Can they overlap, I guess is what I'm asking.

    DW is quite smart enough to manage your page links.
    Plus, if you can use virtual includes, then the link to the
    include files
    will be the same for any page in any location in your site.
    So - you have no link worries in this sense. But a more
    specific example
    that leads you to ask your question might help get a better
    answer here.
