Spry coverage at Adobe MAX 2009, LA

Hello,
Not everybody has the time to join this amazing event, I was so fortunate to be invited to speak at Adobe MAX. So I thought I would post a nice roundup of what is happening here and what the speakers where talking about. I'm Spry enthusiast my self, so I'm visiting / visited all Spry related sessions, labs, and BYOL (Bring your own laptop). The sessions are recorded, and will be placed on the tv.adobe.com once the have been uploaded. There are already a few Adobe MAX session on tv.adobe so the Spry sessions will come in as well.
Mondays sessions:
Ajax for designers, by Greg Rewis
Recording: Ajax for Designers
Using the Spry Framework in Dreamweaver CS4, by Arnout Kazemier. ( for those who didn't notice it, thats me )

Wednesday sessions:
Skinning JavaScript Framework Widgets in Dreamweaver, by Joe Lowery.
Will update this post once more sessions become available .

Yeah, they invited me to speak about Spry, so why not. Even though my
session didn't go as well as i practised. I recieved allot good
comments about it from some attendees, so i definitely converted some
souls ;). And talking with the community was great as well, allot of
feedback gotten about the Spry framework it self.
Also finally got the chance to meet Scott Fegette, so that was cool as
well. It was a successful MAX I think, and Spry really well
represented among the other sessions. And by the sounds of DW CS5 is
gonna rock peoples worlds with the upcoming changes.
As long you guys go to MAX 2010 it will be fine ;). I still feel
bummed out about missing you last year.
I already heard from David powers that you are currently traveling the
world visiting other Adobe Teams. Really cool.
And can't wait to get my hands on the Spry 2.0

  • Anyone else getting adobe AIR error 2032 when trying to download Adobe max companion?

    Hey;
I'm attending max for my first time and am psyched. I've tried downloading the Adobe MAX companian at http://www.max.adobe.com/companion but I keep getting error 2032. I'm wondering if I'm the only one experiencing this problem and if so what can I do to fix it? Thanks for your replies in advance.

Thank you for responding. I found the problem. No it isn't a flash player
issue it is an AIR issue. I didn't know there was an AIR forum. I will post
the answer here instead of duplicating posts. If you are a developer and
have a virtual server on your computer you most likely will run into the AIR
error 2032 when trying to download the MAX companion for the conference
starting tommorow-Wednesday (Monday-Wednesday). You need to either add in a
chunk of code to your server that allows AIR to run or use a different
computer. I used a different computer but I read that someone found the
solution to this error is to add the code to their virtual server. I use
XAMPP, which is a rather popular Virtual Server. Okay well I hope this helps
    anyone in the future.

  • Two accounts not updated with 1 yr sub from Adobe Max Attendance

    Hi,
Two members (out of 8) of our group were not updated with 1 year subscriptions from attending Adobe Max and should have been.  How can I best work with Adobe to get this rectified?
    Thanks,

    Hi Brandon
If you could send me a private message with the following details for each member I will look into this:
    Customer name
    Country
Adobe ID/email used to register at Adobe MAX
    Current Adobe ID/email
    Thanks

Both the US National Fire Prevention Association in NFPA 99 and the International Marine Contractors Assocation in IMCA D041 recommend prohibition of devices using lithium batteries in hyperbaric chambers unless specifically qualified by the manufacturer or by a recongnized testing agency. The rational is associated with the explosive nature of buring lithium.
The iPad, iPhone, etc. use lithium-polymer batteries. I have also heard of people using them in hyperbaric chambers. Has Apple or some other testing agency analyzed the risks and provided a statement regarding the use of iPads or iPhones in hyperbaric chambers?

  • Adobe MAX attendees

When I was a Adobe MAX last year, in the main session we were promised that all Adobe MAX attendees would recieve free Creative Cloud one-year subscriptions - I have not received mine nor have I heard any more about it - Creative Cloud is released; where are the MAX attendee subscriptions located?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
I am in the same predicament as the others on this page -- I do not recall getting an email inviting me to CC for 1 year. My email address is [email protected]
    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

  • Adobe Max 2011 Attendee

I was at Adobe Max 2011 and promissed 1 year of Creative Cloud.  I have not heard anything from Adobe Max about activating my complimentary 1 year membership.  Should I sign up now, and pay?  Will I be refunded?  Was the 1 year promissed just a bait and switch or is it going to happen sometime real soon?  I have sent out 10 different e-mails about this to Adobe with no response....
Please help!  I want my Creative Cloud now as Adobe promissed!

I am having the same issue. I never received an email about the 1-year subscription to Creative Cloud for MAX attendees.  I have sent 3 different emails and called customer support 3 times. Each time I called them, I had to explain to them what Adobe MAX is?!? After I explained Adobe MAX and the subscription to Creative Cloud, I was told they will research my issue and get back to me. I am still waiting and I started this in the middle of May. Has anybody had any luck?

  • Any Director News From Max 2009? Any News From the Director Evangelist?

    <rant>
Anything at all? For some time the hints from those “in the know” has been that Director 12 would be the glorious rebirth of the product. But visions of glory are dimming. If indeed version 12 were looking good and on schedule SOME mention at Max, or some freakin’ were, would be warranted.
I looked at the Max Scheduler, http://max.adobe.com/scheduler , and Director isn't even in the Products list. Is Director a total and complete non-entity at Adobe’s big yearly party? Nothing? Adobe’s modus operandi of complete and total silence until a month before release is ridiculous and outdated. I mean for a company that makes so much income from producing products for the Internet they seem to have missed the whole point of “The Information Super Highway”.
The last post I could find on the Director Game Developer List on Google Groups from the Director Evangelist was a terse "Yes. We work closely" reply to a topic about a third party; this about six weeks ago; nothing in the last couple of months at the Adobe dot com forums. Adobe may have him muzzled RE what he can actually say, but he should still be active on forums. Encouragement about the future of the product, if it indeed has one, would be appreciated. I mean just a “Share about your current Director projects” or something would be a good sign. But the silence is deafening. Mr. Partridge, how about some evangelizing?
I don't think this is a case of "no news is good news". Others have been saying for years that Director is dead. It’s still alive (barely) but now I too fear its condition is terminal. Maybe it’s time to just pull the plug and let it die with what dignity it has left. This long lingering death is worse than a product cancellation in a way. At least then we would have an inkling of what the hell is going on.
As for me I’ve been using Unity iPhone for the last six or so months. I have a non-iPhone project planned and this morning for the first time I thought of doing it in Unity instead of Director. I much prefer to develop in Director. I’ve really only used it for 3D for several years but its 3D tech is SO outdated. Something made in Unity will look better by several orders of magnitude. And to end users (read customers) looks are very important.
With no promise of better things to come I’m close to dropping Director from my toolbox to my toybox. And I doubt I’m the only one.
    </rant>

I see Flash will now be able to export iPhone apps directly.  Although Flash itself will still not run on the iPhone.  It would be great if Director had that functionality a well.  Even better if apps could run on both the iPhone and Blackberry!

  • Adobe Max 2014 - Roadmap discussions, (Shopify) Liquid and E-Commerce updates?

I saw there was a session at Max called 'BC Roadmap open table with Alexandru Costin'. I'd be very intersted to see a video or write up of what was discussed here?
I've been spending a lot of time looking at Liquid, using Shopify resources as obviously they are far more developed. I do see great potential for it on BC, but it's been 3 years in the making and I'm hoping it can make a big difference, quickly. My fear is it will take a lot more time to be fully effective, for BC to catch-up, and meanwhile other platforms are moving far ahead.
I have e-commerce clients getting impatient and frustrated with BC limitations, and while Liquid may give us better access to data, there is still a lot of engineering to make BC e-commerce as proficient as Shopify, Magento etc. I'm sure there is a huge wish list from partners that need to be addresses to really make BC e-commerce powerful again.
I don't want to move clients from BC but am sorely tempted to move a client who is ready for a rebuild onto Shopify....the thinking being that at least learning Liquid is going to be beneficial on both platforms. But out-of-the-box, Shopify is offering a lot my clients want now....on page cart, one page checkout, quick views, product detail to detail navigation, catalogue level SEO, smart collections, filtered menus with product tagging, Facebook store, POS integration etc etc.
For us to keep the faith with BC we really need some idea of the roadmap, and a timeline that can be committed to. I'm hoping that some good news will be shared from Max soon....

Thanks for the link fortunegreen- it's hard to find updates as not much communication is coming from BC on official channels (blog, twitter, emails etc).
From the recording it sounds like there is no roadmap....and with Liquid rollout taking up the rest of the year, not much is going to change to the product until sometime in 2015. A list of options (below) was offered to the attendees of Max to poll on....I do hope the request for input from partners is going to be wider than that if it's going to influence development decisions.
    1. Incremental fixed on core modules (evolutionary)
    2. Start rewriting modules on top of REST APIs and open platform
    3. Fix e-commerce - taxes, stripe, shipping etc
    4. Visual e-mail marketing editor
    5. Build a mobile app to enable end-users to manage their business from phone
    6. Invest into InContextEditing
    7. Online marketing features - A/B testing, advanced targeting, re-targeting
    8. Uptime and infrastructure
I was glad to see the attendees voted strongly for e-commerce developments (50% - proving it's fallen way behind expectations), and intersted to see in the comments that many thought AWS hadn't offered any significant improvements, if anything it's been unreliable.
Ultimately it's still worrying that there is no mention of BC from the core Adobe presentations, and with a full BC site subscription being close to that of Creative Cloud, it's surprising that there is not more investment in BC...it seems a very small team (working incredibly hard no doubt, but still requiring the help of partners to explain and present the recent developments) and this is probably the main reason why things are moving so slow. There simply isn't resource.
I hope we'll see some better communication from BC on what's happening soon, and that a voting system can be anabled partner-wide to steer future developments.
    Fingers crossed.

  • Spry Samples in Adobe Labs (downloads please)

Where can I get downloads of the samples displayed in http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/
I would like to learn from the code in my own sandbox. Being able to download a zip file of an example whould be helpful.
Also, is there a SPRY developers cookbook?
Where does one get started with SPRY?
Is there any contact email or phone for Adobe labs questions?

    Thank you very much.
After downloading the library I cannot find the code to the demo http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/data_region/DataSetMasterDetailSample.html
Specifically where do I find the city XML files referenced in the second dataset constructor?
    var dsStates = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("../../data/states/states.xml", "states/state");
    var dsCities = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("../../data/states/{dsStates::url}", "state/cities/city");
It would be very helpful if the samples each had a download link to a zip file of their code and assets.

  • News on Premiere Next at Adobe Max

Join us today at our #AdobeMAX keynote, live at 9:30 a.m. PT with CEO Shantanu Narayen and SVP @DWadhwani: http://adobe.ly/AdobeNext

    Biggles Lamb wrote:
No doubt other editing platform manufacturers will be rubbing their hands with glee and offering a subsidised crossgrade in due course.
I did just that from CS3 to Edius 6 and used Edius for a couple of years until Adobe got their bugs out of the dire CS4.
I have a rock stable CS5.5 setup and there is where I will stay but still use Edius which is a great piece of software and it will play more realtime tracks than Premiere
Avid is already planning to do essentially the same thing. What they're seeing is that all their resources spent on chasing people down and manufacturing physical product are no longer a burden Adobe has to shoulder. When it's cloud-based distribution, you save a lot of time and a lot of money. From a development and distribution standpoint, it's a no-brainer.
At any rate, I think Adobe is fully aware that they are jumping off a ledge here, but they've already seen very good success with the current adoption of the Creative Cloud. For people still on CS3 or CS4, they recognize that these are not current customers. People who bought CS4 did so in 2008 or 2009, so it was nearly 5 years ago. That's a long time in tech and business.
For the hobbyist or home user who just likes to use the best tools (as opposed to say something like Photoshop/Premiere Elements), you can still subscribe on a monthly basis, so if you plan to take a few days and edit the family video library into a montage, it'll cost you $75. That's really not a lot of $$$ to have a month's worth of access to EVERYTHING. Of course, if you just want to edit some video in Premiere Pro, you can rent that for only $20 per month.
Adobe doesn't pay me to say "Creative Cloud is great!" but after using it for a year I definitely feel that way. Having paid only $360 this past year and gotten to use all of the tools in the Master Collection, it's been a very good deal! I've used the cloud storage with my client projects and internal jobs, I started learning InDesign (never had a chance before!) and also got to use Lightroom, which wasn't in any of the packages before (it's a really nice tool for photo management and basic editing).
If I had been paying full price, I'd have spent $600, and while that's not as good of a deal, it's about the same as the old pricing if you were to skip every other version of the CS upgrades. If you only upgraded every 3 versions or longer, that's not a good deal, but at the same time, as I first stated above, you're not exactly a frequent flyer.
    Just my thoughts.
Oh....somebody mentioned an AVCHD issue....what issue is that? I'm on CS6, I edit a few dozen hours of AVCHD footage every week. Other than occasionally wishing it was AVC Intra footage, I never have any issues.  Someone wish to clarify?
