Spry Data won't display in IE

Anyoe else seen this? Data displays fine in Firefox and
Safari (of course) but gives three errors when opening in IE Mac or
PC.
Errors thrown are:
Microsoft JScript compilation error: Line 190, Char 89,
Expected ')'
Referring to JS file?
Microsoft JScript runtime error: Line 15,
'Spry.Data.XMLDataSet' is not an object

Hi,
I have inserted a spry data set based on an HTML table onto my page. The data displays in live view and in Safari, but when I try to preview in IE8 I get nothing. Here's the page:

Any ideas? I didn't modify the CSS one iota.

Not sure what happened there. I was changing and deleting the spry data set so many times that I must have put the file up after I had deleted it. In any case, I put the correct file up. And a funny thing happened. The page works online but it won't work in browser preview. Any ideas?

Spry data region to display multiple data sources

I'm developing an interactive menu using the Spry and Ajax framework that lists the menu items on the left (in a Spry accordion) to a corresponding image and description on the right. I have the basic functionality working, however, my menu items are broken into sub categories, and I can't seem to get my detail region to display attributes for more than 1 ds.

As you can see, my menu is broken into sections; i.e. Tapas, Pizzas, Entrees...etc. The Tapas secion works perfectly, and the Pizza section appears correctly on the left. However, I cannot get the detail region on the right to link to both Tapas and Pizzas. Right now I am trying to use separate XML files for each category, but could see my XML looking like this:

I do not know how to set up the Spry regions to get this to work. This seems like it should be pretty straightforward, but I have not had a lot of experience using Spry. What is the easiest/best practice method to get this to work correctly? Thanks for your help.

I feel your pain... I was JUST running into the same issue and debated on using a similar menu for the restaurant site I did.
Anyhow, here's how you do it. I solved it with this answer here: SOLVED: Multiple Data Sets (renamed)
You can reference the source code here. Data Set Shell with Accordion
The skinny version goes like this: You take your multiple data sets and combine them into one "Shell" using SpryDataSetShell.js
Copy that to your Spry Assets folder and link to it alnog with your Accordian JS files.

create a shell of all your datasets.

Create an OnClick call in your accordian menu on the left...

Spry Data Set not display in chrome

I create a new spry Xml data set using adobe sample. I using Spry 1.6.1, Chrome 7.0.517.41 on windows 7. I test this in mozilla and firefox works fine, but chrome doesn't shows the data.

Spry data set not displaying data in IE8

Ok probably sounds familiar to some of you - but I cant seem to get it to display the data in IE8 after everyone's suggestions on the Spry forum. When I load the page in FireFox it works, IE8 and Opera it doesn't. I am running CS5 and it looks fine in the preview pane...I have tried changing the name of the class, checked my internet settings for javascript, removing "caption" from the table, does anyone have any other suggestions?

I am having a similiar problem - I have Spry prerelease 1.6.1 and use Adobe Dreamweaver CS4
I have no problems viewing my sprybar on the left in Chrome, Firefox, and some versions of IE (or compatibility mode even)
Here is a link: http://www.livingwithcents.com/sneakpeek - on the left hand navigation (Education, Finance etc) only half of the menu views correctly. It seems to have trouble in IE8.

Spry Data does not display in browser window.

Using CS4 I followed "Building a photo album with the Spry framework" by Don Booth.
I can run gallery.html in Dreamweaver CS4 “Live View” and it works, but does not work in a browser. Does not work in “Preview in browser” from Dreamweaver nor IE8 nor Firefox. The file structure online is same as in working site.
I briefly see the design screen then just an empty browser window with no images.
I'm trying to run this from another index.html but can't get it to work even running gallery.html.
I appreciate any help you can offer. Please see attached for online files and screen prints.

From the menu click on the last item, which is a “.” period. It is not labeled but is a “.”.

Spry data sets

I'm having trouble getting the Spry data set to display in my

Thanks to whomever takes the time. I really appreciate the
extra set of eyes and any tips!

With those 2 changes I mentioned above ... and the fact that
I had to fix the markup because there were missing end tags, which
I was assuming was just a copy paste problem ... it all worked fine
for me. Of course I made sure the includes I used were in the
correct place.
After re-reading your original message above, you never
really mentioned what you are seeing in the browser. Are there any
errors being thrown? Are you seeing data references instead of
values? If you are in need of help, we could diagnose things much
faster if you had an URL we could take a peek at.
Also what platform and browser are you using?
Did you try loading the XML file directly in to your browser
like ZeusChicago suggested? That would instantly tell you if your
server was serving your XML up with the correct content-type or
not.

Spry Data Sets and IE7 and IE8

Whiile in IE 7 or IE 8, my spry data set is not displaying
the data. However, using the Firefox browser, you can see the data
within the spry data set. For some reason unbeknownst to me, IE 7
and IE 8 in not allowing the spry data set to display the necessary
data. Is there a fix to this issue? Can changing or modifying the
HTML code help make the connection between the spry data set and
its data in IE 7 and IE 8? Any assistance would be helpful. Thank

It gags in IE because you are saying that the Course_Date
column is a date, but you have an "Open" word in the date column
instead of a date. You can work around the problem by creating a
custom column that replaces the "Open" keyword with a date in the
past or the future, depending on where you want it to land when
sorting (top or bottom). Then, leave your Course_Date column as a
"string" column type, and set the new custom column to the date
column type. Try something like this:

Here is my problem:
If I use UNC path it display the data.
If I use IIS --- such as http:\\testServer\devhome\test.cfm
it will give me a blank white page. No xml data.
Can any one point me out what I am doing wrong?

IE doesn't display part of spry data set!?!?

Hi there,
I hope somebody can help me out with a problem I got with the spry dataset I use on my website. -> http://media-powerplant.de/media-powerplant-referenzen.html
The thing is that the IE doesn't display text in the "master" region. There are no problems with the Details region, and pictures are also diplayed in the master, but strangely enough no text! :-(
When i visit the site with firefox or any other browser the text gets displayed. I have no idea what the problem is, but this is really bothering me.
I hope that somebody is kind enough to help me out here. Big thanks in advance! :-)

Is IE5.5 unable to display Spry Data?

I've just finished adding a Spry Accordion to a page that's
populated with Spry Data (XML data set from a MySQL table). The
Accordion widget and data displays properly in Firefox, Opera, IE7
and IE6 but fails in IE5.5. Likewise, Spry Data in Spry Tables
doesn't appear in IE5.5.
Is IE5.5 simply unable to display Spry Data?

I'm developing my current project on a local development
server, so I don't have a URL to show. However here's an example
I've since found on the Adobe Labs site that exhibits the same
behavior on my standalone installation of IE 5.5.

I'm guessing that IE5.5 doesn't fully support XMLHttpRequest.
So, I may just have to see if my clients think we can afford
to abandon IE5.5 users or if I need to look for an alternative to

LineChart data tip won't display with single data point?

Hi,
I have a Flex 3 LineChart with LineSeries which use CircleItemRenderer. If there is only a single data point to display, the data tip is not displayed. If there are several data points, each data tip is displayed correctly.
How can I make the datatip appear correctly with even just one data point? Any workarounds for this problem?
Quick googling found that I'm not the only person with this problem. A suggested workaround is to use PlotChart instead, but I don't want to go there unless there is absolutely no good way to solve this problem directly.

No one wanted to help me but I figured out that I was not referencing the DSN on the test server, only the local DSN.
The information to connect to the MSSQL database given by my hosting company was not correct for Dreameweaver (or MS Access) either.

Spry Data Set: not all members displaying

I have a simple data set showing membership in a group. About 100 members with 5 columns of information. When I preview the results only about 30 members are showing up & they are in the middle of the alphabet. I have not had problems updating the lsit in the past but now I am.
Unfortunately I cannot show an example because the information is password protected for members only.

A working YUI Calendar With Spry Data

Hi,
I've seen a number of posts about linking Spry data with the YUI calendar widget.
Well I've done that here. http://www.pwhitehurst.f2s.com/yui%20calendar.html. through a little perserverance and reading the Yahoo calendar API
The calendar dates are highlighted based on the event dates in the SPRY data. I haven't added any other functionality yet as I'm just taking it one step at a time. But this page should give others the base code for getting started. The key is to declare a YAHOO namespace so you can reference the calendar in your spry region postload notifications or other spry functions etc.
Any questions please reply and I'll see if I've worked it out. I'm away over Easter but intend to add functionaility so that when you click a date on the calendar it filters the spry data via a non destructive filter etc. I also want the calendar to move to the right month as I click events.

Unfortunatley my page hasn't gone live yet, so I can't show you what I mean, but I think I've found the problem.
I've managed to config the YUI calendar to accept dates in DD/MM/YYYY format (using some of the localisation features described on the Yahoo developers pages: http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/examples/calendar/germany.html) so now my calendar will accept and properly shade any date passed to it in DD/MM/YYYY format (which is what my spry dataset is in) and it will also return any date selected from the calendar in DD/MM/YYYY format, as it should. So, all good on the calendar front...
...but spry is still operating in standard MM/DD/YYYY mode, so if I set my "start_date" and "end_date" columns as type = "date" (which I want to do for sorting purposes) it doesn't recognise any date after the 12th day of the month! (because it still thinks the DD segment is a MM segment and so has a maximum poss value of 12! doh!). So far I've got around this by defining both date columns as "strings", so the combining function you describe above (much appreciated btw :-)) passes the date string to the calendar exactly as entered, and because my calendar is set up to recognise this date string, theres no problem, and i can shade any date in the calendar (including the 13th to the 31st!)
so the only problem i have now is being able to sort my dates. one solution seems to be to have 2 columns - one with the date in DD/MM/YYYY format which is used for display (as it is now) and another in american MM/DD/YYYY format which is used to sort, but this seems to me a bit of a waste of time, and theres always the possibility that one column will have an error in it, especially since I'm not used to working in the american format.
sorry, a bit of a ramble there. I suppose my question is this: is there a simple step i'm missing where I can tell spry that my date columns are in a specific format? ie. dd/mm, not mm/dd?
something like:
