Spry Dropdowns not dropping over SWF in Firefox (Windows)

Greetings again-
I built a Spry drop down menu in Dreamweaver CS3 (on my Mac). The drop down menu resides just above a flash banner. In Firefox (v3.5.9), the dropdowns won't drop over (won't overlap in front of) the Flash SWF file. However, the drop down menu drops properly over the Flash file in IE (Windows), Safari, and Firefox on Mac.  Anyone know of a fix for this bug?
Thank you-

I found a solution over at Layers Magazine:
" (in Dreamweaver) Please select your flash object and go to the properties panel, select Parameters button, and add following lines:
wmode as parameter and transparent as value"
This solves the problem.
This is interesting! Particularly when the topic has been discussed in this forum on quite a number of occassions. One of the earlier ones was back in 2007 and can be seen here http://forums.adobe.com/message/67405#67405
Goes to show that we do need to read what is available in this forum like the opening statement which reads

Before you post a topic please verify
that:
You
are using the latest Spry files
The latest version of
the Adobe Spry Framework is 1.6.1, this is the same version that ships
with Dreamweaver CS4. If you use Dreamweaver CS3 (uses Spry 1.4), its
wise to upgrade your files to the latest version. This can easily be
done using the Spry Updater that can be found here.

  • SPRY menu not dropping down on certain pages

    I'm having a lot of problems now that I've uploaded this webpage. I created this webpage in Dreamweaver and used the SPRY menu template and everything worked perfectly in Dreamweaver but now that I have uploaded it I can not use the drop downs on like 7 pages. When you are on the shop page, the dinning page, Living, Directions, Design, Events, and the contact page the SPRY menu will not drop down. Could someone look at my site and perhaps my code and tell me what I am doing wrong on those pages?

    there are a couple of the pages that don't work.
    Thanks so much.

    Have a look here and come back after you have fixed the markup http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2Fdiscoverclearfield.com%2Fshop.htm l

  • Spry Menu not dropping down in Firefox and Chrome

    Hi -
    I am not a professional and having difficulty.  I have inserted a spry menu bar in CS5 and it looks fine in IE, but doesn't drop down (can see a little bit) in firefox and chrome.
    I read a bunch and tried a fix to make the overflow visible, that fixed the problem but my formatting of locations of other areas went wild.
    The site is:  http://www.tucsonrealpros.com
    .....any help is much appreciated...been pulling hair out

    Hi,
    I have tried the site and can see the drop down for Home search, Buyers.
    Can you try to update the chrome and firefox.

  • Spry submenu not displaying in Chrome or Firefox

    I am having problems with my Spry menu (produced with Dreamweaver CS5).  The submenus only appear in IE in compatibility mode and not at all in Chrome or Firefox.  The site is at http://www.vectors-meeting.eu and there should be additional items under programme and travel.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    W3C Validator isn't too happy with your menu code.
    http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.vectors-meeting.eu%2F&charset=%28detect +automatically%29&doctype=Inline&group=0&verbose=1&user-agent=W3C_Validator%2F1.3+http%3A% 2F%2Fvalidator.w3.org%2Fservices
    As Spry is no longer supported, and your menu is so simple, you might also consider switching to a simple HTML/CSS menu
    http://alt-web.com/DEMOS/CSS2-Horiz-Drop-Menu.shtml
    or a JQuery menu.

    Thanks Gramps, that information was really helpful.
    I just removed all instances of 'rgba' in the .css rules that specify color, changing it to 'rgb' and also removing the 4th parameter indicating the transparency value.
    Now that I understand what the problem was it actually makes complete sense, since IE does not support transparency.
    Thanks again.

  • Spry menu not dropping straight now in IE

    !!SORRY FOR ALL OF THE CODE I AM NOT SURE WHAT YOU NEED TO
    SEE!!
    Hello,
    I am new to web design with CS4. My spry menu looks find in
    Firefox and Google Chrome, but not in IE. The menus should drop
    down like this in Chrome (
    http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/1881/website3or8.jpg
    ) but in IE, they do this (
    http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/2608/website1nt1.jpg
    In addition, how do I get it so my menu extends across the
    whole top of the page like this (
    http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/4002/website2cn6.jpg
    Tell me what code you need to see and I will post it.
    Thanks!

    I will answer the extending the menu question first since
    that is the easiest. You can either increase the width of the
    menubar items or you can just change the background color for the
    layer behind the menu so that it is the same color.
    For the menu, there are a couple things it could be. Without
    seeing your pages, it could be an issue with the Spry version. If
    your Spry code is not up to date then this is the starting point.
    You can tell the version by looking at the top of either the js or
    css file for the Spry. Then check this page (
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/
    ). The updater isn't all that intelligent so it won't check the
    previous version.
    Then if you are using the most up to date version we come to
    the code which would need to be shown. We would need to see any CSS
    code related to the menubar layer (the Spry CSS file) and any other
    CSS code you have for surrounding divs. It would also help to post
    the HTML for the menubar area so we can see how the CSS styles are
    used.

    I created a horizontal spry menu for this site just as I have always done. but the dropdown submenus are not working. I have tried commenting out other "functional" pieces of code. Thanks for your help.
    It is not even on my local files. I would have thought that Dreamweaver would have created that in my local files. I can copy it over from one of my other sites.
    1. Do you have any idea why it would not have been created?
    2. What would be a way to resolve this if I didn't have this file on some of my other sites?
    3. How did you determin that the file was not found on the server. I haven't seen any errors with any of the tools that I've used to analyse the site.

  • IE8 sees horizontal menu as white, with dropdowns not dropping

    I previously received a great solution from Altruistic Gramps regarding our menu's background images, but then someone viewed our site (http://www.usc.edu/org/seagrant/NS/) with IE8 and saw the transparent menubars as white. I googled a solution to this, which was commenting out the #FFF in the css IE hack section - background: #FFF; - but then the background was perfectly clear, probably because we have the menus to be semi transparent.
    I looked for a solution to this but could not find any, and so opted to create a semi transparent 1x1px png file and using that as a background image
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li.MenuBarItemIE
    display: inline;
    f\loat: left;
    background: url(../Images/clear1px.png);/*background: #FFF;/*/
    This works, to an extent: We're using auto as the menubar width in order to get some longer titles to fit and so now, the trans gray texture does not extend all the way across as it does while looking through other browsers. In order to use the 'house icon' I had to enclose the spry menu in another div (located in the main css) and color that, but now I have no idea what to do with the way it looks in IE8
    If you need more of the spry css or the main css, please let me know and I'll post it.
    Best regards.

    Thanks again for the response. I made these changes in the menu css and the index page and the menu went clear again and the subs still don't seem to drop at all. After checking your link to the compatibility modes, I tried each of the IE= samples and the only one that did anything was 5. That just messed up the menu completely. I went back to 9 and it was the same no drop sort of thing.
    I was thinking maybe it was the extra div I originally made to keep the home icon in the same group as the rest of the spry menu, so I took that div out, and although the spry menu clicked into place, it still had the transparency and drop-down problems.
    I'll post my main css - maybe that'll show something. Excuse the mess, but we've been adding things as we go
    Thanks again for spending all this time on it!

  • Spry dropdown menu not dropping down and reversing order cs4

    Hi, thank you for reading my post.
    I am having problems with my spry menu bar not dropping down when
    I upload it to my site, I get bulleted lists. When I preview it, it works fine. Also, the menu is in reverse order (??) I've tried retyping it in the opposite order to see if that fixes it, but somehow it goes back to backwards. It should start with home at the left. I am trying to post my code, but it will not let me paste. How do I paste code? Sorry if thats a silly question.
    Thank you

    Hi, thank you for your replies. I set everything to left, which caused it to display correctly in dreamweaver. Thank you! I did enjoy the "wiggle" that I get from the menu items on hover, they move from right to left, will that cause problems if I change one back to right? I still am having trouble getting the menu bar to show on the website, Im still getting bullets.
    How do I put the css files? They might be on the site, but not in the right place, where should they be? I also made another site from the same template, and saved it to a folder in my site so it can be previewed. Will that cause problems? Both spry's are not working..... argh! Thank you to everyone for your help, I appreciate it, this is my first time using the spry menu feature. Thank you for the help on posting code. Here is a link to the site and the code:

    I still can't find a solution. Changing the parameter wmode:transparent works for .swf files but .flv files do not have the option to add this parameter. If you add it in the script manually it doesn't do anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I cn't find any solution online.
    Thanks,

  • Help with Dreamweaver CS5 spry menus. Menu is not dropping down in IE7.

    Hello.
    We recently upgraded from GoLive CS3 to Dreamweaver CS5. Wow! This has been a big change for us. We are having trouble with a website that we are building, specifically the Spry Menu drop downs not appearing correctly in IE7 and older. While the dropdown menu appears in other browsers, it is not dropping down at all in IE7 and earlier versions. After researching this topic on many websites, including this forum, we are still unable to resolve our particular issue. We have tried many of the suggestions that are common to our problem, but have not found a solution as yet. Could someone please check out this page for us, and possibly give us some advise. We are working on Mac OSX. Thank you in advance for any suggestions you may offer.
    http://www.advertools.net/pgtdemo/index.html

    When I added the following to the document
    <style>
    #main_image {position:static;}
    </style>
    the menu items appeared albeit in the wrong position.
    The reason for the hidden menu items is because #main_image had a position of relative, effectively creating a flow of its own rather than following the natural flow of the document.
    Now for the postion of the submenu. If I add the following style rules to the document the submenu items are in the correct position
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal li {text-align: left;}
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a {text-align: center;}
    In the first line I have reset the rule that you had changed to center align and in the second line (which is not in the original CSS) I have aligned the text in the anchor tag to align center.
    The reason is that IE<8 behaves differently to other browsers when it comes to list items causing the nested list items (submenu) to align themselves to the center of the text of the parent list item.
    I hope the above helps.

  • Access Connections: proxy + homepage settings not taken over in Firefox and IE since upgrade to 5.0

    Hi,
    I got a really annoying problem since upgrading to AC 5.0: both in IE 6.0 and FF 3.0 the proxy and homepage settings are not taken over when switching the network profiles. A first attempt based on a statement found here
    http://www.thinkpad-forum.de/thinkpad-software/thinkvantage-software/13963-access-connection-absturz...
    seemed to look succesful. (for non Germans: they have solved a crash-problem while creating new profiles in reducing the size of FF's prefs.js file to a value under 45 kB). I had a similar problem, too, and solved it in this way. Also the proxy issue seemed to look better then but but only for some days. Now its the same again, proxy and homepage (did by the way never work with AC 5.0) do still not have any effect on IE and FF.
    What's the reason? Has anyone solved or at least experienced this problem?
    Thanks a lot for any hints...
    Best regards,
    Carsten
    PS: T41p, Win XP Pro SP2, IE 6.0, FF 3.0.1

    BSNF:
    Stopped working on 5.0. Upgraded to 5.02 through System Update, continued to not work. Have deleted all profiles, recreated: Still doesn't work. Have uninstalled Access Connections, reinstalled: Still doesn't work. Doublechecked settings in profiles, verified that check box is on in order to get Access Connections to do its thing.
    Both IE 6.0.2900.5512.xpsp.080413-211 (that is, the system proxy and home page settings) and Firefox 3.0.1 are affected.
    Turned on log file; there were 152 lines of error message, included below, some of which clearly make reference to Firefox. Don't know what's wrong. Some kind of permission thing?

    I've got a much bigger file that contains the log when switching back and forth. There's other error messages in there, too: Missing PID, etc. Any ideas?
