Spry Horizontal Submenu Bar Problem in Internet Explorer

I follow all the directions for adding a Horizontal Spry Menu Bar and the submeanu keeps dropping in the upper left
corner of the browser in Internet Explorer.  Please help to fix this problem. It looks great in all other browsers, but not
in Internet Explorer.
I have the width for the parent menu and the child menu equal at 132 px.

Thanks For Your Reply.
I finally got the spry menu to act right.  How, I don't know??? Trail and error. Trail and error.  I prefer to know what I am doing.  So any help would be appreciated.  The menu look good in Mozilla, but ust okay in Internet Explorer.  My website is www.theexecutivevip.com and here is the code that now says is causing an "expanding box" problem.  I have adjusted the ul, li, etc. and it is still a problem. Help please. Thanks again.

  • Spry Alignment and Positioning Problem in Internet Explorer 6 and 7

    I am designing a website at http://atoment.007gb.com, and neither me, nor my partner can figure out why the Spry Horizontal Menu Bar is loading the way it is in Internet Explorer.  We are doing this for a school project, and eye appeal and workability is a top priority.  I changed and customized most of it, but even if i did keep it the same, it still wouldn't work. I have only the best confidence, that even given the amount i have changed, you will still be able to help me with my alignment problem.
    The Submenu Buttons Tile across the page, when they are supposed to go straight down...
    the Submenu overlaps the main menu when you hover over it
    and the darned thing wont center in any of my browsers, but thats the least of my worries.
    Here is the CSS Codes
    #MasterNavigator {
    width: 1024px;

    #Navigator {

    ok, but how can I make it work with what I have.  All the css codes are the

    The original SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css does not have any issues in any of the browsers. If you go and modify the original, and it does not work anymore, then the logical conclusion is that you have made one or (more likely) multiple mistakes.
    In other words, you cannot make it work with what you already have.
    My advice is that you replace the original CSS and work from there; but instead of changing the original CSS, make your changes in a separate stylesheet so that you can monitor and test the code at each change. For instance if you want to change the colour of the text you make a style rule that overrides the original in your new stylesheet as follows:
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a {
        color: #333;
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a:hover, ul.MenuBarHorizontal a:focus {
        color: #FFF;
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.MenuBarItemHover, ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.MenuBarItemSubmenuHover, ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.MenuBarSubmenuVisible {
        color: #FFF;
    If you want to change the background colour to an image, then follow the same procedure, testing your code at each step.
    I hope this helps.

  • Spry horizontal menu goes wrong in Internet Explorer

    I have designed the start of a site and the client is pleased, except  that for some reason the Spry menu goes bananas in Internet Explorer 8.  I have checked it in Safari, Opera, Firefox and Chrome and it looks  fine. Earlier in the design process I was having some issues with a gap  at the end of the horizontal menu, but with persistance I managed to  cure this. According to DreamWeaver there is an issue with line 70 of  the CSS file :-
    #footer {
        font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif;
        font-size: 16px;
        color: #FDCB00;
        background-color: #333;
        height: 30px;
        width: 900px;
        position: fixed;
        bottom: 0px;
        text-align: center;
        padding-top: 9px;
        letter-spacing: .3em;
        border-top-width: thin;
        border-top-style: ridge;
        border-top-color: #999;
    ....   but I can't see what is wrong with this. This relates to the footer  which ironically behaves fine. I have just upgrade IE8 to IE9, but this  hasn't helped.
    I am fairly desperate to finish this  site but can't until I find what is wrong. I've not seen this problem  before and the DW diagnosis isn't helping me.
    Here's a link http://www.tattoo-bristol.co.uk/
    Any pointers would be much appreciated.

    Have a look at the following piece of code in your modified CSS file
    BROWSER HACKS: the hacks below should not be changed unless you are an expert
    /* HACK FOR IE: to make sure the sub menus show above form controls, we underlay each submenu with an iframe */
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal iframe

    You have changed the latter two highlighted lines, which you must have done because you felt that you are an expert.
    Sorry to disappoint, because the last highlighted line is where the problem lies. If you replace the f/loat value back to the original left, your problem will have disappeared.

  • Spry Horizontal Submenu Bar Issues in IE6

    Hey there,
    I've been struggling with this issue for a while now, and I was hoping that I might be able to get a little help from the community to resolve it.  I've built a site which looks absolutely fine in all browsers except for Internet Explorer 6.  In IE6, the sub menu bars jump around all over the place for no apparent reason, and I can't figure out why...  The site in question is www.flexyoffice.co.uk.
    Now, in most browsers, the submenu appears above the menu bar.  This was my intention.  Unfortunately, in IE6, if you hover over a menu item containing a sub menu, the submenu will either appear over the menu item, below the menu item, or next to the menu item.  Additionally, once you try to actually hover over the sub menu, the sub menu itself moves, leaving the user to chase the submenu around the page in pursuit... Not ideal...!  Looking at the page in IE 6, it almost seems as if the submenu opens up to the right of the menu bar, which results in everything else being thrown out.  I could be wrong though.
    I'm relatively new to these forums, so if there is any specific information which I can provide which would possibly help to identify the issue, please do let me know.  If there are any suggestions out there that are worth giving a go, I would really appreciate any thoughts that you may have.
    Thanks very much guys,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
    I tried your page in IE6 and it crashed the browser! To be honest, most people should have upgraded from IE6 ages ago, I was redirected to MS website to upgrade the second time I started the browser.
    As I couldn't even get the page to load, I can't suggest what could be wrong.
    One thing I did notice wrong that made your menus appear jumpy at first was that you are not preloading the images needed to display the menu bars.
    you have the Javascript function in the correct place - function MM_preloadImages() {
    But you have not selected to preload any images in the body tag.
    Should look something like this -
    <body onload="MM_preloadImages('images/buttons/contactOver.gif','images/buttons/aboutOver.gif', 'images/buttons/loginOver.gif','images/buttons/case_studiesOver.gif','images/buttons/newsO ver.gif','images/buttons/fundingOver.gif','images/buttons/eventsOver.gif','images/buttons/ homeOver.gif')">
    These are obviously not the images you want to preload (taken from one of my sites), replace the images with the images used in your menu and your menu will operate much smoother as the images will be ready to use.
    Hope this helps (a little!)

  • Spry Horizontal Submenu IE bug

    The Spry Horizontal submenu bar does not display correctly in
    Internet Explorer. Everything appears to be working correctly in
    Firefox.
    The Submenu on the navigation bar keep dropping down from the
    top of the browser window instead from it's corresponding parent
    menu bar.
    I've updated my Spry files to the latest versions, from
    Adobe's site. Since the submenu works correctly in Firefox, it
    makes me think this is a bug correction, not something wrong with
    the css.
    Do you have any suggestions on how to correct this? I've seen
    this question asked alot on other Dreamweaver forums.
    Thank you!!!!!!!!

    ***SOLVED***
    Hi There,
    Cheers for replying. I took a look and the labs one seemed to
    work correctly. From here, under the CSS Styles tab I selected the
    SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css group and deleted them all. I then
    cleaned out my code of the references to the menu and reinsterted
    the menu (I had this problem before updating to Version 1.6.1 from
    1.4).
    From my own error here I would suggest justice49 deletes the
    menu completely (backup first) and reinserts his/her menu. from
    here, each time a change is made, preview the menu to make sure the
    change doesn't break the menu. this worked for me. Also check that
    your spry menu is at V1.6.1. There is a forum entry about updating
    if necessary:

  • Spry Horizontal Menu bar - submenu position

    I'm new to spry so apologies in advance if this has been
    posted before.......
    I'm putting together a new site using the spry horizontal
    menu bar - I've managed to put together a CSS format which works
    well in both FireFox and IE7 EXCEPT for the position of the
    sub-menus below the main menu bar. IE7 seems to position the sub
    menu relative to the top right corner of the parent menu item.
    Firefox seems to position it relative to the bottom left corner -
    and I can't find a solution which works for both browsers. Any
    ideas?

    You must have fixed it in the meantime as I see no problem.

  • Spry Horizontal Menu Bar not working in IE

    Hi! I am new to this forum and new to Dreamweaver. I recently used Dreamweaver to build a website to display my digital portfolio. I am not very good at this and don't understand much of this works. I inserted a spry horizontal menu bar for my navigation. I did change the original set up to have the background the colors I wanted and I also changed the size so it would go across the top of my page. This looks fine in Firefox and Safari but in Internet Explorer the bar displays vertically, which does not look good. Can anyone look at my code and tell me how I can fix this problem?
    I appreciate any help I can get with this as I have tried everything I know.

  • Java Applet Background Color Problem on Internet Explorer

    Hi,
    Please check out the following URL:
    http://www.utopiainteractive.com/clients/AkonFinal/glossary.htm
    The menu bar is writting in Java Applet. If you scroll down the page, and scroll back up, I see white background as I scroll back up. It happens only on Internet explorer. Neither Java Applet nor HTML Body bg color is white. I am kinda lost, and any help would really be appreciated.
    Thank you and look forward to hearing from someone soon.

    Hi,
    Well I used HtmlConver utility to generate applet html code, so I assume nothing is wrong with Object tag. Do you know what could cause this problem on Internet explorer? To be honest, I spent last couple of days, but I am just lost. It absolutely works fine on Netscape.
    Thanks,

  • Can i use smartprint with out bing bar and or internet explorer ?

    Can I use smartprint without Bing bar and or internet explorer? I am not a fan of Microsoft explorer and I Do not want Bing on my computer. I don’t like either program.
    I prefer other options like Firefox, slim-browser and others. I also don’t use any tool bars.

    Sorry, no.  The current smartprint stuff requires IE and the Bing bar.

  • Spry Vertical Submenu Bar Appears Behind iFrame

    In IE and Chrome, the Spry vertical submenu bar appears properly on every page of the website, except for the one page that has iframes.
    In IE, the submenus appear behind the iFrames
    In Chrome, the submenus appear in front of the iFrames but with an incomplete border
    In Firefox and Safari, the submenus appear as they should (in front of the iframes and with a complete border)
    I've scoured this forum and tried several fixes that seemed to work for others with slightly different conditions but didn't work for mine.
    I've included my SpryMenuBarVertical.css for referece; if you can offer a fix for this particular issue, I'd be forever grateful. Thank you!

  • Spry Horizontal Nav Bar not working in IE7

    I'm currently working on a website for South Jersey MOM
    Magazine (www.southjerseymom.com). The header layer contains a
    graphic and a Spry horizontal menu bar for navigation. The
    navigation works properly in Firefox. However, when I go to open up
    the page in IE, it originally shows the navigation bar, along with
    a Information Bar menu asking if I want to allow active script to
    run. When I click "yes" to allow the content, then the bar
    disappears and doesn't work. Any suggestions?

  • Spry Horizontal Menu Bar in IE

    Hello,
    I had looked at the forums for a possible solution to this, and none of the answers I have found work for me. I have a spry horizontal menu bar with a background image. It works in Safari, Chrome, and Firefox but on IE the background image does not show. There is only a white background. I have changed ul.MenuBarHorizontal li.MenuBarItemIE to have a background image but it still doesn't show in IE.
    This is the website: fwmedpeds.net
    I am very new to this and any help is appreciated.

    If you go to your online SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css which can be found here http://fwmedpeds.net/SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css, you will see the last few lines as I have previously quoted.
    You will also see what Ken Binney has said
