Spry (menu) in a .ascx file

I am trying to put my spry menu into a .ascx file but when i
do, none of the subitems are appearing. Also, none of the rollover
effects are working except for items that have no subitems.
Any ideas why?

You were partly correct, I did have the JS linked correctly
but i needed to include it and the script dreamweaver generates to
the ascx file, which makes sense. Also to keep things from looking
distorted in Design mode of dreamweaver and editing in Contribute,
I had to include the link reference in both my .aspx page and the
.ascx file. Which is a minor flaw, so im perfectly happy now.
Thanks!

  • How to keep a Spry menu in one file?

    Could somebody explain me how I can keep the HTML code for a

  • Help with Spry Menu Bar 2.0 (vers. 1.0) - Placement of customized styles files

    Hello:
    I would like to congratulate the authors of the new Spry Menu Bar Framework 2.0 (vers. 1.0) -- it has truly been an advance and over the previous generation, and is much more user friendly for those without extensive knowledge of the spry framework.  I have also appreciated the tutorial created by David Powers that is found on the Adobe labs site, and find that it has been very helpful.
    However, I do have one general question that I would seek some clarification before completing the task of deploying the widget in its final form.  I have gone beyond the tutorial insofar as I have customized the styling to allow me to use background images for the menus and submenus in both static and hover states.  I have also gone directly (with add of the tutorial) to work on my own site rather than recreating the bayside tutorial.  I know have my styles embedding into a template page (.dwt).
    My question is whether those styles embedded in the head of the template page should be transferred to a separate styles page and attached (or possibly included in the styles page that handles the CSS for the layout aspects of my site), or whether it should overwrite the styles included in the basic styles skin for the widget.  The latter seems the most likely answer, as many of the classes are for the same names as those in my template page, but have different (and conflicting settings).  However I wanted to make certain of this before proceeding.
    Once again let me thank those responding to this query in advance for the helpful tips I have received along the way, and that will likely follow this post.
    I could post the css and the html with this querry, but I hope I have explained the question well enough that a general response will be all that I need.
    Thanks again for the help.
    Steve Webster

    Thanks for your helpful response.
    I had already tried the various options (overwriting basic styles, skins, etc) and quickly learned to back track as they were definitely not the answer to the question I posed.  I then included them in the customized style sheet for the entire site and clearly de-marked them as styles governing the spry menu widget 2.0 (1.0) with the warning that future developers working on the site should use care in amending them, and warning that they be remain included in the general styles file.
    I was going to indicate in response to my own query that this seemed to be the best practice, but your response confirmed what I had learned.
    Thanks once again for your helpful advice and intervention.
    Steve Webster.

  • Spry Menu/Flash file Issue in Safari

    I've searched the web and read countless forums about this problem but none of the solutions have worked for me. My website is not published so I cannot direct you to a page to view it. All I can do is post my code, so I'm hoping that someone will be able to help!
    My home page has a Flash movie file that scrolls pics and I have a Spry menu bar to the left with popout menus. The page works PERFECTLY in Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Opera but NOT in Safari. When I test the page in Safari, the popout menu shows up behind the Flash file. The solutions I've read direct me to change the "wmode" value to "transparent" in two different places in the Flash file code. I've done this but it still doesn't work in Safari. I'm starting to wonder if there may be some value I need to change in the Spry menu. Any further suggestions would be great!
    CODE:
    Content on this page requires a newer version of Adobe Flash Player.

    I'm not an expert. I'm not an idiot either. But could someone please
    tell me how I can insert my code for you guys to view? Can you not copy and paste? This is what I was trying to do but I ended up typing it all out and somehow it got lost when I posted the discussion! How aggravating!

  • Spry Menu bar file

    Hi,
    While running link checker on my site, I discovered the
    SpryMenuBar.js file is shown as a broken link (and probably why
    when i view my site in a browser, none of the drop down menus
    work). I searched my hard drive and the file is nowhere to be
    found...actually, didn't even know it existed. Question is, can I
    get it back somehow?

    Ok, that's good, we know it's working as it should. Take a
    look in the site
    definition preferences, there is a section for Spry - you can
    set where the
    Spry files get written.. maybe there's something in there
    that's not quite
    right.

    strange indeed.
    This is confusing me... are you saying that the spry files
    were just mixed
    in with the rest of your files? but weren't saved to a Spry
    folder?? I
    thought you said that no such js file was created....

    up the .js file?
    You will need to check your original file and see where the
    Spry Menu js
    script is being pointed to?
    As long as the JS script and the css file are pointing to the
    correct files
    so that paths are correct, then you will be able to edit the
    Spry menu with
    no problems.
    Hope all that makes sense :-)

  • Question: My spry menu bar is not displaying correctly in Dreamweaver

    Hello,
    I am  new to Dreamweaver CS5, so coding isn't my area of expertise. My problem with my spry menu bar is that it does not display the tabs on the menu bar correctly. When I try to apply new changes to the CSS of the horizontal menu bar, half of the tabs will change and the other half will not. Also, I am unable to drag and move the menu bar itself around, a function that I was once able to do before. At times, only one tab of the menu bar will display itself, without any of the other tabs as well.
    I have a hunch that my problems stem from some coding errors in the SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css, and possibly in the SpryMenuBar.js. On the CSS Styles panel, my SpryMenuBarHorizontal.CSS list reads as follows:
    I also have a hunch that something about this line-up is also incorrect, but I don't exactly know what the problem is.

    SpryMenuBar.js
    This file handles the JavaScript for Spry Menu Bar.  You should have no need
    to edit this file.  Some highlights of the MenuBar object is that timers are
    used to keep submenus from showing up until the user has hovered over the parent
    menu item for some time, as well as a timer for when they leave a submenu to keep
    showing that submenu until the timer fires.

    If anyone could possibly steer me on the right direction with this, I'd be very grateful! I've been struggling with this for about a month now and I feel like I may have only made the situation worse.
    I'm not sure if I have to keep making a new spry assets folder in my website or not or if I have to drag and drop the spry assets into the root folder. I have restarted my website over at least a dozen times by now. I have tried changing folders, dragging and dropping various spry assets folders everywhere and I have also uninstalled and reinstalled my copy of Dreamweaver CS5 in the hopes of getting my spry horizontal menu bar to act normal. I am completely new at Dreamweaver and I really, really need some help with this.
    Thanks!

    I haven't been able to get my site posted up yet. Here is a link to it anyway:andrearosales.com
    I will be working on connecting my files up to my server. At the moment, here are some screen shots of some messages that I am getting when I am saving my file.
    I'm not sure what to make of these messages. I tried to put a new spry horizontal menu bar on my main page, and when it appeared, it displayed as a spry vertical menu bar.
    Here is a picture of what it looks like:
    I"m going to refer to the links that were suggested to me though. I'm not sure if pictures of the code will help to solve my problem. I'm going to try again to connect my files to my server though.

  • I lost the blue tab on my spry menu.

    I've saved my document and re-opened it, but still can't get the blue spry menu tab to show. Also can't see my submenus in the browser. It shows in my code. Here is my code.

    You don't need to upgrade your software.  But if you're struggling with Spry, IMO you should cut your losses and switch to something better for the longrun.
    If you have a budget to work with, I highly recommend Project Seven's Pop-Menu Magic 3.  It's easy to use in DW CS4, 5, 6 or CC.  More importantly, it's bullet proof and works in all devices.

    If you don't have a budget to work with, you can roll your own menus with jQuery plugins.  A bit more effort on your part, but they perform better than Spry.

  • Problem with .css for Spry menu

    Hi,
    I am having a problem with the Spry menu I have created and edited. All looks great in the Design view of Photoshop however under the Live view or opened using a browser the menu reverts to a list of hyperlinks!
    I have checked the .css link but when using Firefox CSS editor the CSS file for the menu is simply blank?
    Any suggestions would be great!
    Thanks,
    Ozan

    Your SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css needs to be within your SpryAssets folder, which is where it would have been put automatically when you inserted the SpryMenuBar. You can move it back in there using the Files Panel.
    Here is what the file structure needs to look like:
    SpryAssets
    SpryMenuBar.js
    SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css
    cssstyletemplate.css
    index.html (or whatever the name of your page is)
    Hierarchally, the top level of your root folder will show folders for SpryAssets and css and the html pages will be on the same level.
    The Spry assets themselves will be down a level IN the SpryAssets folder, as the styletemplate.css file will be down a level IN the css folder.
    In the head of the document, you will have
         <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/styletemplate.css" />
         <script src="SpryAssets/SpryMenuBar.js" type="text/javascript"> </script>
         <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarHorizontal.css" />
    At the end, remove the slash before Spry inside the imgDown and imgRight sections:
         <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
    var MenuBar1 = new Spry.Widget.MenuBar("MenuBar1", {imgDown:"SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarDownHover.gif", imgRight:"SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarRightHover.gif"});
    //-->
    </script>
    Compare these with your files and file structure and correct any small typos, and they should be correctly linked.

  • Spry Menu Bar Horiz -- another not rendering in IE8

    please believe me that i've searched without success in finding a resolution for this problem.

    here's the css file:  THE ONLY THING CHANGED WAS THE FLOAT DIRECTION in ul.MenuBarHorizontal li (left to right)
    ....  so what am i missing in getting a horizontal spry menu on the right side of page?

    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the div. The elements within this div have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. for Right-Aligned Spry Horizontal Menu bar, IE8 incorrectly renders it on the left after prompting for running scripts or ActiveX controls.
    here's the css file:  THE ONLY THING CHANGED WAS THE FLOAT DIRECTION in ul.MenuBarHorizontal li (left to right)
    ....  so what am i missing in getting a horizontal spry menu on the right side of page?
    When you right float the container (LI) for each menu item, some browsers will do exactly that, float the first menu item to the right, place the second menu item left to that and so forth. Other browsers (IE) will not react to a right float of the container (LI).
    The only way to right float the complete menubar is to use the complete container (UL). As with any float, the width has to be specified.
    Hence in your case,
    change ul.MenuBarHorizontal li back to left float
    add a width (32em) and a right float to ul.MenuBarHorizontal

  • Spry Menu Bar acting crazy

    I am not a coder and have used DW in the past to create relatively simple websites. I have a client who needs a horizontal nav bar with one of the buttons prompting a drop-down menu. First tried this using DM8 and then discovered the drop down menu behavior feature doesn't work in a template. So upgraded to DW CS5. Started to work with the Spry menu bar feature and was learning how to change font color, background color, hover color, add menu items, etc.... I noticed that whenever I tried inserted a new Spry menu bar it had the attributes of the most recent menu bar I created.
    After working with the CSS menu I noticed that there seemed to be a division in each menu bar cell -- a small rectangular shape that I couldn't highlight but would affect how the bar looked in a browser. It almost looked like cell divisions in a table. The bar is horizontal with the text centered LtoR and top to bottom, but there was more space at the bottom of the menu bar due to this added "bar". Then when I inserted a new Spry menu I could barely see it. The menu, which included the default 4 fields/ buttoms was literally about 1" wide on my screen. I tried keying in a new pixel width and nothing would help until I got up to 900px.
    To make an already long story short, the Spry feature is completely screwed up. Is there a preference I can trash to at least re-set it to how it was before I somehow screwed it up?
    Any tips would be great.

    You can delete the Spry support files from your Files Panel, thus eliminating the problem code.
    Spry Menu 2.0 files use a different naming convention. You edit the menu styles inside Widget Browser's visual editor then save/export files to your local site folder.
    The support files for Spry Menu 2.0 (aka Spry UI-1.7) look like this:
    <link type='text/css' href='Spry-UI-1.7/css/Menu/basic/SpryMenuBasic.css' rel='stylesheet'/>
    <script type='text/javascript' src='Spry-UI-1.7/includes/SpryMenu.js'></script>
    <script type='text/javascript' src='Spry-UI-1.7/includes/plugins/MenuBar2/SpryMenuBarKeyNavigationPlugin.js'></script>
    <script type='text/javascript' src='Spry-UI-1.7/includes/plugins/MenuBar2/SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js'></script>

  • Spry Menu Bar Advanced Styling Question

    Hello all,
    I am using Spry Menu Bars for the first time and have checked
    out most of the online documentation. I have gone into the CSS file
    to customize much of the look of my first menu using the
    documentation I could find.
    I would like to do the following, but can't seem to find the
    CSS code bits to do it:
    1. Change the height (not width) of my top menu trigger item
    -- it has created some unwanted padding.
    2. Change the width of my submenu independently of the top
    menu item -- eliminate cramping and allow for longer text than the
    top menu trigger.
    3. Change the submenu text color and size independently of
    the top menu item text.
    Here is a link to my sample navigation bar (only the first
    item "Latest News" has a menu):
    http://stage.ecdi.com/includes/nav_bar.html
    Sorry for the extent of my request, but I have gotten
    blurry-eyed looking for posted material that answers my inquiry. I
    wish there were an easier way to accomplish complete styling,
    considering how popular these menus are.
    You guys are the best...

    The reason you don't see a lot here in this forum is because
    Adobe created a Spry forum. The first thing I would recommend doing
    is updating Spry if you have not done so before:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/
    Then you can head over to the Spry forums here:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/labs_spry_pr1_forum
    To answer your question though, everything you want to edit
    is in the CSS document in the SpryAssets folder. All of the
    attributes are defined in there.

  • Spry Menu Bar - Help Request

    Hello!
    I'm using a horizontal spry menu bar with horizontal sub menu
    and have almost gotten the navigation exactly how I need it. I'm
    stuck, however, and don't know how to fix the following:
    1. I have absolute positioning set for my sub menu so that
    the items appear under the left-most main menu item instead of
    their parent item. When I change screen sizes, the sub menu stays
    put (as it should) and everything else moves with the re-size. I
    can't figure out where the sub menu positioning is originally set
    to change it or how to get it to appear where it currently is
    without using absolute positioning.
    2. I would like to center the contents of the sub menu and I
    think I've tried text-align:center everywhere possible but to no
    avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    3. Is there any way that the menu can recongnize the page
    that it's on and display the appropriate link high-lighted. For
    example, when you open the home page the active/focus state for the
    "Home" button shows (for this menu it would be a different color
    background image) and it's corresponding sub menu would be
    displayed automatically. Would a script do it? Is there anything
    like this available?
    The following is the page code and accompanying css. I have
    not altered the js file. I apologize for not being able to provide
    a link, but may be able to do so this evening.
    Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Spry Menu Bar CS4

    I have used the horizontal Spry Menu Bar for the navigation for my website.  I used a tiered system because I needed two levels of drop downs for the menu.  When we loaded the site to the web yesterday it worked fine on Mozilla but there was a glitch on IE.  Instead of dropping down in a stacking order, the submenus would be lined up horizontally along the screen in a long line.  I'm not sure if I need to edit the .css file for the spry menu bar, or the .js file.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Note:  I've attached the javascript code AND the css code for reference.

    I was just struggling with this, too. I think I have it fixed -- it's looking good in IE7 and IE8 (my standalone of IE6 has conflicts and refuses to open this morning).
    You need to update the CSS. Give this a try.
    ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul li
        clear:left;
        float: none;
        background-color: transparent;
         color: #878189;
    Take a look -- the menus should be displaying vertically in a list in IE, but you'll see the background color isn't extending to fill the entire list box.
    So add the background-color property with the correct color to the ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul entry.
    I haven't gone through your code line by line, but those two changes fixed it for me. Let me know if it works.

  • Spry Menu Bar Positioning Problem in IE

    I have a Dreamweaver-created Spry Menu Bar drop down menu which works perfectly in every browser on my Mac and on my PC . . . EXCEPT Internet Explorer (who woulda thunk it?!!)
    In all browsers except for IE, the 3 submenu items under "Door Systems" and "Gallery" appear exactly as they should in a vertical row, positioned just below the brown line below the navigation links and all the same width. But in IE they appear higher up and with different widths. IE is ignoring the rules for width and position.
      <ul id="MenuBar2" class="MenuBarHorizontal">
        <li><a class="MenuBarItemSubmenu" href="closet_doors_gallery.html">DOOR SYSTEMS</a>
          <ul>
            <li><a href="sliding_doors_nyc_nj.html">DOOR PROFILES</a></li>
            <li><a href="bifold_doors_nyc_nj.html">PANELS COLORS</a></li>
            <li><a href="room_dividers_nyc_nj.html">DOOR SYSTEM TYPES</a></li>
          </ul>
        </li>
      </ul>
    <ul id="MenuBar3" class="MenuBarHorizontal">
        <li><a class="MenuBarItemSubmenu" href="#">GALLERY </a>
          <ul>
            <li><a href="#">SLIDING DOORS</a></li>
            <li><a href="#">BI-FOLD DOORS</a></li>
            <li><a href="#">ROOM DIVIDERS</a></li>
          </ul>
        </li>
      </ul>
    Here is the page where you can see the problem if you view it with IE, and see that it's  fine in Safari, and Firefox,    Chrome and Opera, Mac or PC:
    http://2113web.com/indeco/index.html
    I have a feeling it's a simple fix of the css, but I can't figure it out - I would really appreciate anyone's help with it - thank you!

    Perry

    Hi and thank you very much. It was a little confusing as to whether you meant to add the rules you suggested or to replace them, or a combination of both, but I puzzled it out. I created a new MenuBarHorizontal.css file in a blank page and then made the changes you suggested and it works! Yay! I had to do a bit of tweaking to get it to look just the way I wanted, but it now works correctly in ie 7 and 8 and still works fine in everything else.
    Interestingly enough, I had to change the margin-top: 63px; rule in "ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul.MenuBarSubmenuVisible" to 40px to get it positioned properly vertically, and I had to get rid of the "border-bottom: solid 1px #EEE;" in "ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul li", which caused the submenu items to have quite a lot of vertical space between them - I'm not sure why!
    I also had to get rid of all the syling rules in the "SUBMENU INDICATION: styles if there is a submenu under a given menu item" section, as well as the one you added: "ul.MenuBarHorizontal a.MenuBarItemSubmenu {
        padding: 0.5em 2em 0.5em 0.75em;"
    With that done, it works great in both ie7 and ie8, so thank you for the help. Below is the new css that works, in total.
    Not being as familiar with the subtleties of CSS as you and many others obviously are, I'm REALLY curious as to exactly what is different that causes this to work now, and would be happy to hear your expanation, if you feel like taking the time to explain. If not, no problem - it works and that is the most important thing! So, thank you again -
