Spry menu showing up incorrectly IE6

Hi there,
My spry menu horizontal bar is showing up incorrectly in
IE6....
The buttons are meant to be maroon during hover, but they're
all the default blue, sometimes when you hover over them they turn
pink, sometimes blue, sometimes completely gray, the colors are all
messed up...
But it's fine in other browsers..... Please advice, thanks

Even if it would be included as SSI your markup will still be wrong.
if your SSI is in the body, that means you will have a extra tittle tag and meta tag in the body of your page. Same would count for script and <link> tags.
If the SSI was in the head. Than your whole menu bar markup would also be in the <head> which isn't valid either.
Also, you menu is on the right side because:

Spry Menu Bar Slow in IE6

The display of Spry submenus within the Menu Bar is very slow
with a large menuing system. Additionally, submenus are slow to
close when the mouse moves away to another 'button', resulting in
another delay in the display of the second submenu set. The lag
time issue is occurring in IE6, but not in Firefox 2, Opera 9, or
Safari 3 beta (Windows).
I suspect the cause is that IE is not applying the scripted
classes as fast the other browsers, especially as the lag is even
more visible in the display of the rollover arrow (down and/or
right). I have attempted to adjust the timeout settings (opentime
and closetime) to no effect.
The pages in which the menuing system appears are
complicated, and heavy, which may also play into the problem, but I
suspect that without a fix for the timing issue the menuing system
will proved frustrating for users.
Any suggestions on how to fix this issue anyone?

Hi, I'm a Dreamweaver CS4 / Spry newbie who had exactly the same problem with a vertical Spry menu disappearing in IE6.
After some trial and error, I found that reducing the Width in the Box category of ul.MenuBarVertical to 175 px, 5 px less than the 180 px width of my left sidebar Div <div #sidebar1> made the menus appear normally in IE6.
As you can imagine, this was a huge pain to troubleshoot - had to downgrade an old laptop to XP with IE6 to troubleshoot as I tried different fixes.

Spry Menu showing backwards in Fire Fox

I could use some help.
This is my first spry menu and it looks fine in IE but the shows backwards in FF.

Change the value back to left.
The menu bar will now left align itself. To fix that we will go to the container, give it a width and float it to the right as follows.

DW CS4 Spry menu shows up on one page layout, but not in a secondary page

I inserted a spry menu into the homepage. Got it working okay. Then I inserted one into another page layout within the site. Copied and replaced the code with that from the homepage. The secondary page dropdowns aren't dropping down. What am I missing? Help please.

Vertical Spry Menu going nuts in IE6

Sorry for boring you with another IE tweaking issue (damn
MS).
I'm not sure if I tweaked this menu into taking on it's own
crazy behavior in IE 6 (works fine in other browsers).
It's suppose to sit nicely and quietly on the upper right
side, but in IE 6 it jumps out to the middle, leaves the background
behind and behaves very badly. When I hover my mouse over it, the
menu bars vanishes for a moment too. For a better understanding of

Hello Tom,
The Accordion, because of the animation and other reasons was
designed to start running after the page load finished. Therefore
we attach a listener to the body onload event and when the page
finished to load and the CSS's to apply we start enhance the
element in page.
In this situation the accordion doesn't work because the page
never notify us to finish loading. The element remains open and the
Accordion disabled.
I studied a little bit your page to determine the reasons
that doesn't permit the IE 6 to throw the correct events. Apart the
fact your page resources are huge and will take a long time to load
(5Mb) seems that you used in your design lots of PNG files. From my
experience this is not a good practice because the IE doesn't have
in any version a good support for this type of files, specially on
IE 6.
I see that you use a 'hack' to load the PNG's on IE 6 even if
they are not supported that apply some native Windows filters. This
step seems to be the origin of your problem but you'll have to
study further and determine if the CSS filters you apply or reading
the PNG's properties to generate the CSS are blocking the page to
finish loading.

Spry menu positioning problem in Internet Explorer

Hi everyone,
My website is working fine in Firefox and Chrome, but my spry menu doesn't show up correctly in IE 8. When I view the site in IE, the spry menu shows up as a white rectangle and the submenus appear too high up on the page. If anyone could help me figure out how to fix this, that would be great.
I noticed that in Firefox/chrome, the positioning of the submenus starts counting from the top of the spry menu (40px down), but in IE it seems to start counting from the top of the page?

However, the submenus still appear too far to the right side. When I do a local preview in IE via Dreamweaver everything looks fine, but when I upload my files and view the site online the submenus appear under the word next to the selected word.

Edit: I just noticed that if I turn off the compatibility view in IE, the submenus appear as they should. Is there a way to make them appear correctly with the compatibility view turned on as well?

Spry horizontal menu goes vertical in IE6

My site is still incomplete but I was testing the basic
layout on different browsers, and found that my horizontal Spry
menu bar at the bottom of the page goes vertical in IE6 (but not in
any other browser I tested). Any thoughts why this could be? The

On an unrelated note, the left sidebar does not reach all the
way to the footer in any browser that is not IE. 90% of my traffic
is from people using IE, but I'd like to fix it if possible. I
tried using a javascript workaround to making equal length columns
with CSS that I found on these forums, but could not get it to work
right across all browsers, so decided to just make fixed-length
side columns instead. Any help on either problem would be
appreciated!!

You have changed the latter two highlighted lines, which you must have done because you felt that you are an expert.
Sorry to disappoint, because the last highlighted line is where the problem lies. If you replace the f/loat value back to the original left, your problem will have disappeared.

Spry horizontal menu showing as vertical ul in WordPress theme- help?

I am trying to modify a fairly simple WordPress theme to match the look of other (static) pages on my site. I inserted a horizontal Spry menu in the file header.php. In the split code window in DW this has the proper appearance, but in MAMP (or on the remote server) it appears as as a vertical list of underlined links. I am guessing that the menu's appearance is being over-ridden somewhere, but where? Here is header.php; thanks for any help.

Thanks for the prompt help. The site root for Test Blog is at Sites/wordpress and the header.php for the theme is at Sites/wordpress/wp-content/themes/Basic. The scripts call Sites/wordpress/SpryAssets so ../../../ should be correct. When I load Basic/header.php in DW, the menu displays properly in Split view.
As you know, wordpress loads the top-level index.php and that uses the index.php found in the activated theme to format the page. When I load this top-level index.php into DW, it displays the Spry menu correctly (horizontal, hover color change), but when I use option-F12 to load into Safari at localhost/wordpress, it shows the vertical list of links.
The page is at timothybuchanan.org/wp. What I am wondering now is why the same page would display correctly inside DW and not in the browser. What should I check?

Spry Menu Bar Submenu won't show in Safari or Dreamweaver LiveView

I am trying to get my submenu to show up on my website's spry menu bar. It will show up when I test the site using firefox or IE but it won't show when I try LiveView in Dreamweaver or when I test using Safari. The site is www.fuseut.com/fuse

Don't use reserved words in JS
var event = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("events.xml", "catalog/event", {sortOnLoad: "date", sortOrderOnLoad: "descending"});
event is such a reserved word. If you change this to event1 then all is well.

I colored the spry menu, but it's not showing up in preview.

I changed the color of my spry menu from beige to black. It shows up on my work page, but when I try to preview it, it's as if I had never changed the color. I also tried going to the page through Firefox, but it's not showing up there either. The code says the background of the menu is #000, One the design panels it says the background color is #000 as well. Can someone tell me what I'm missing that is making the spry menu stay at the default color?

Not a good option unfortunately.
"allow multiple consecutive spaces" is an old option in DW which should be discontinued. It simply inserts multiple non-breaking spaces when you press the spacebar.
It's ugly, and unpredictable since it depends on font sizes, browser text sizing etc.

How to show active page in Spry Menu Bar using images

Hi,
I have already read this answer "how to show active page in spry menu bar" but I am using images, not text. I have mouse-over and mouse-out working in the Spry Menu Bar using image.png and image-over.png, but I cant' figure out how to get the image-over.png to appear on the active page since the spry menu bar is locked on the individual pages. (I tried to put it in an editable comment, but spry wouldn't go for it. :-)
Any ideas. Here is the code:

Spry Menu Bar Show Highlighting currently selected

Is there a way to get a vertical Spry menu to leave the
lights on while we're on a given page? I'd like to affect the menu
behavior to cue it to leave the highlighting turned on for the
currently selected page. I'm hoping there's a short script I could
add to individual pages to tell the menu where we are. If my menu
has 6 vertical list items, and the page I an displaying was loaded
by clicking on the third item in the list, then I'd like item three
in the menu to remail highlighted. This would cue the user to know
where they are in the menu for any given page. Looking at the
script near "show menu highlighting and MenuBarItemHover"

i think the reason the spry menu isn't working is because it
needs to expand past the frame, which isn't possible. if you want
you can use
this
it's compact and it doesn't need to exapand past the frame.

Horizontal Spry Menu Breaks in IE6

I have created an horizontal spry menu using the spry widget
in DreamWeaver CS3. I would like the width of each menu item to
adjust to the text (width: auto;) and that works fine in current
browsers (FireFox, IE7, Opera, Netscape) but in IE6 the menu items
are displayed vertically instead of horizontally. As soon as I give
them a width, it displays appropriately in IE6, but that changes
the look. You can see the page in question at

Is there any way to work around this problem with the older
IE versions?
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Please let me know if
I need to upload any code. This is one of my first posts, so I'm
not sure what all I need to post.

I have updated the Spry Assets as suggested, but still have
the same results. Removing the float:left for the menu bar doesn't
help with the item alignment in IE6 and actually introduces a
problem in the current version of Firefox, so that isn't the
problem either.
Any other thoughts? The only thing that seems to force the
menu bar to display horizontally in IE is to have fixed widths for
the list items in the unordered list (ul.MenuBarHorizontal li). As
soon as I change that from a defined width to auto, or remove the
width designation altogether, it falls back to a vertical
arrangement in IE6, though it works in all the more recent browsers
just fine. We'd rally prefer to let the list items size
automatically, but if there is no way around it, I'll have to try
to replicate that effect by assigning a different width to each
item. That will add a lot of extra code, unfortunately.
