Spry - Vertical Tabbed Panel

Hey guys,
I looked around this site and I could find an answer to this but I couldn’t, so I thought I would pop this question in.
I want to make a vertical Tabbed Panel but I want it to be split into different categories.
The category heading is not clickable but its sub item are clickable, e.g.
Group A – Not clickable                     | Content Panel
Tab1 – Shows content panel 1            |
Tab2 – Shows content panel 2            |
Group B– Not clickable                      |
Tab3 – Shows content panel 3            |
Tab4 – Shows content panel 4            |
I tried a few ideas but with not luck.  If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

What I would do is make small change the JavaScript file
Find Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels.prototype.getTabs and replace it with this function.
Spry.Widget.TabbedPanels.prototype.getTabs = function()
     var tabs = [];
     var tg = this.getTabGroup();
     if (tg)
          tabs = this.getElementChildren(tg);
     for(var i = 0; i < tabs.length; i++){
          if(!tabs[i].className.match('TabbedPanelsTab')){
               tabs.splice(i, 1); // remove because its not a tab
     return tabs;
It checks if your tabbedpanels tab have the class "TabbedPanelsTab" if it does, it will allow it to be tab
So now you can do..
<div class="TabbedPanels" id="tp1">
<ul class="TabbedPanelsTabGroup">
<li class="tab1" tabindex="0">I do nothing</li>
<li class="TabbedPanelsTab tab2" tabindex="0">Tab 1</li>
<li class="TabbedPanelsTab tab3" tabindex="0">Tab 2</li>
<li class="TabbedPanelsTab tab4" tabindex="0">Tab 3</li>
</ul>
<div class="TabbedPanelsContentGroup">
<div class="TabbedPanelsContent">Tab 1 Content</div>
<div class="TabbedPanelsContent">Tab 2 Content</div>
<div class="TabbedPanelsContent">Tab 3 Content</div>
</div>
</div>

  • Vertical tabbed panel with background image

    Hi all,
    I have a working vertical tabbed panel.  For the text that's shown, there's a background image assigned to the associated DIV.
    However...
    The background image that's shown is clipped to the bottom of the text.
    In other words, if I have 3 lines of text, the bottom of the background image only goes as far down as the bottom line of text.  In order to show the entire image, I have to put in a lot of </ br> tags for "empty" text, not a very good approach.
    More of the backgound will show if I increase the text text size via the browser.
    To try to describe this more accurately,
    Let's say I have a background image that's 600 px in height, but the lines of text only measure to 400px.  That means that the bottom 200 px of the image doesn't show, unless I add more lines of text.
    Hoping someone has an answer!
    Thanks,
    Jerry

    Gramps,
    Again, thanks for your time.  While we're now full time commercial photographers (http://www.jerryandlois.com), I was a software engineer for some 20+ years in an earlier life, all on the application side of things.  Not really any appreciable time with website stuff.
    There are a few more tech/how-to questions I have that are specific to CSS, in terms of polishing up the small site I'm working on.  However these are not SPRY related, unless SPRY can solve this for me.
    In particular, suppose I have a large block with a background image and a body of text.  I want to ensure the text wraps around the image, rather than being a complete overlay where the text can collide with the main body of the photo.
    Example:
    http://jerryandloisstudios.com/about.html
    The issue is that the text is resizable, by design of course.  Is there any way to manage these two elements (text and image) so they get along the right way?  We want the text to overlay some of the image, but only on the periphery, if that makes sense.  So far, the only solution I've seen is to keep the text formatted roughly in a column so that if its size increases all will still be OK.  But...  artistically that just doesn't look right.
    If you're up for it, I'd certainly welcome a private email thread, unless others can also benefit from the rather newbie questions I'm raising:  [email protected]
    Again, thank you for your help!!!
    Jerry

  • Spry Accordions, Tabbed Panels, and Collapsible Panels: changing colors

    I wanted to alert everyone to a great new Community article published by our very own David Powers. The article details the various best practices and methods for changing the colors of Accordion, Tabbed Panels, and Collapsible Panels widgets, including tab backgrounds, borders, and so on.
    Here's the article:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/504/cpsid_50437.html
    Customization questions are pretty frequent in both the Spry and Dreamweaver forums. This new styling guide is sure to answer lots of peoples' questions.
    Furthermore, the appearance of such an article is a great example of how Community content can interact and live symbiotically with Adobe Help. We've linked directly to David's piece from our own customization pages for the Spry Accordion, Tabbed Panels, and Collapsible Panels widgets:
    Customize the Accordion widget
    Customize the Tabbed Panels widget
    Customize the Collapsible Panels widget
    Thanks a lot to David for hammering out this article.
    If you're interested in publishing Community articles of your own, you can download the Community Publishing AIR application and get right to work!

    The borders you see, are called outline, its a accesiblity feature of the browsers,
    Actually called 'focus' lines  :-)
    Here's an article about the Bluefocus lines seen in Safari.
    http://www.brunobergher.com/blog/2009/01/19/safaris-blue-focus-lines/
    Without creating a Spry widget myself right now to test, but I'm sure thata there is a 'focus' rule in the css...
    trying the
    {outline:none;}
    on that rule.

  • Horizontal Tabbed Panel Inside Vertical Tabbed Panel

    Hello!
    I am new to web coding and in dreamweaver I would like to place a horizontal spry tabbed panel as the content of a vertical spry tabbed panel.  I guess you could call it a nesting a tabbed panel.  However, when I place the horizontal panel in the content area, it takes the form of a vertical panel.  Any thoughts?
    Here is a live page of the issue: http://andrewpapp.com/baseballprofile.html
    and here is the code:

    Hi Newbie,
    I say this through gritted teeth because I think you have done far better than just a newbie, even to the extent that you have given correct advice to Jennigje Galama.
    To get to your problem, have a look at the following example

    </html>
    What the vertical tabs does, is override the style rules of the normal (horizontal) tabs. Thats OK, but if we then want horizontal tags, we must resurrect the orginal style rules. We must also make sure that we choose the selectors carefully unless we want to rewrite the JavaScript file.
    I think the above approach is probably the best,
    Keep up the good work.

  • IE Layout Bug Spry Tabbed Panels

    hello,
    I'm wondering if someone can help me.
    I'm creating a spry vertical tabbed panel and there seems to
    be a layout bug in IE, when the page loads the panel floats to the
    top of the page and when I hover over it seems to go to the desired
    possition. This does not happend in Firefox.
    How can I make the tabs load in their original possition?
    Thanks,
    genao79

    I had the exact same problem in IE 6. The tabs would appear
    out of position (up and to the left of the tabbed content) until
    the first mouseover, when they would snap into place. There was no
    problem with IE 7 or FF.
    Try adding a div with style="position: relative;" around your
    tabbed panel. In my case, I had to add position: relative to my
    container divs to get it to work properly. Seems to work fine now.

  • Spry tabbed panels, opening a tabbed panel,  problem with IE

    i've have made a site, with tabbed panels,
    all the pages are made of a template;
    everythings works fine; in Firefox and Opera,
    but only in IE when i open a tabbed panel from a menubar, the contents  is opened behind my header location;
    i've used spry 1.6.1 and spryUtils to open the tabbed panel.
    because there no other posibilty to open  a tabbed panel from my other page.
    i've tested the site on CSS and all, and i've don't get any errors.
    this site is only on our intranet, and DVD;
    so is not a online site
    i' dont have anything modified in the java script.
    just changed some minor adjustments to the CSS of the tabbed panels
    The page is containing a fixed footer and header, FOR all browsers therefore is the CSS IE hacks also.
    and all other functions work normal.
    i'm only a beginner at this
    CSS
    body,html {

  • Google Analytics on Spry Tabbed Panels

    I have created a website where I am using a few main html pages and have vertical Spry Tabbed panels for sections of information within most of the pages.  I wish to track the clicks on the vertical Tabbed panels, but I am not having much luck implementing it.  I could probably figure it out if I saw an example somewhere.  I have also implemented a "back button" feature (thanks to Arnout Kazemier!) and clicking to go directly to a tab on a page using the SpryUtils into the default tab option for Spry Tabbed Panels.  The Google Analytics web pages have information on gadget tracking, and one on tracking AJAX,  and one on using the newer asynchronous tracking (which is supposed to be better for Ajax, etc).   I have tried to implement asynchronous tracking along with the "Tracking AJAX" recommendation by Google with no information being posted in a couple of days.
    My website page where I have tried to implement it is here:
    http://www.phostech.com/opt_con_v2.html
    I have also seen examples where a counter is used just to count, but I would like the information on which pages were clicked.
    I would rather not do this using the event tracking (but if that's the only way I'm OK), partly because the event tracking would be separate from the page tracking and the other features woudn't be as useful (exit page, sorting based on content, etc.).
    I am not a great programmer, but I could probably manage it I saw an example close enough to what I need.
    If anyone has any ideas, solutions, implemented examples that could help me, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks!

    I have checked out your page using Firefox, firebug net panel that monitors requests from and to your page. And i do see a successful call to the google servers. But I also noticed a JavaScript error on your page caused by these lines of code:
      http_request.onreadystatechange = sendAlert;
           http_request.open('GET', url, true);
           http_request.send(null);
    You might want to remove those.

    Hi Ben,
    I creat a new page ( a simple page...):
    http://dev.achab.it/test/test.htm
    Our web-graphics are insert into
    <script type="text/javascript" src="../common/js_func/parameters.js"></script>
    the SpryTabbedPanels.js scripts.
    On the new simple, you can click to 4 Tabs on the left.
    If you want to see the 5 or 6 content tab you can click the label into the 3 or 5 content tab.
    When you click on the label "here" on the 3° Tab (for example), you can see the content change and the "Tab 3" is not selected.
    I'd like to change the content and leave the "Tab 3" selected.
    I hope in your help :-)
    thank in advance
    regards
    Stefano

  • Spry Tabbed Panels - how to change tab from text to an image

    I have a 4-tab vertical tabbed panel. I want to customize each tab with one image so that on-click, the imaged tab will display.
    NOTE: forum.adobe.com, 5 months back, had EXACTLY the look and feel I'm trying to emulate. It was such a beuatiful design, but it got updated and went away.
    I would greatly appreciate the CSS / HTML code.
    Thx
    Louiscat

    Have a look at what Adobe Spry have done here http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/home.html
    By right clicking the page and choosing view page source code or similar, you will be able to see how it is done.
    If your are still stumped, please go the Spry Forum here http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/spry where all the Spry Gurus reside.
    I hope this helps.

  • Spry tabbed panels - question about hover

    Hello, I am relatively new to Dreamweaver and Spry, but have made a website using vertical Tabbed Panels that finally looks ALMOST like I want it. I am sure that I have done some things that could be much simpler though…
    http://web.me.com/marinka9170/JL_test/JL_test.html
    My problem is that I would like the tabs to stay in their hover state (so coloured and wider) when you navigate to the content panel (until you hover over the next tab of course), instead of going back to their standard grey. How do I do that?
    And my other question is: in the content panels I have used custom bullets. Is there a way to assign a different custom bullet for each content panel? Do I number the content panels, like I have done with the tabs?
    Any hints, tips, solutions are appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Marinka

    I indeed see that your example works, but I think in my code there is some sort of conflict going on
    I have copied the Source Code and the SpryTabbedPanels.ccs below and 'bolded' the parts where I think the problem is. It is probably in splitting the different tabs in 5, right?
    I am sorry for asking these stupid questions. It's all quite new to me, but I've ordered a book to study more. It's just not in yet
    Thanks again for your help! Really appreciate it!
    Marinka

  • Spry Tabs Panel help

    Am just using this on a page, but using some icons.
    At the moment it :
    looks
    like this
    Is it possible to move the images into the tabs, so that they
    change from the faded image to the colour one of each as they're
    moused over?
    I see it working if the image is the same for each tab, ie
    set a background image for the tabs, and a different background
    image for when they're moused over.
    But how can I use different images in the tabs that change to

  • Spry Tabbed Panels 2 - Remember Last Tab

    Using the Spry UI Tabbed Panels 2, has anyone found a way for the page to remember which tabbed was last viewed?
    I can see that I can use the showPanel() method to set the panel, and I can use the getCurrentTabIndex() to retrieve the current tab index, but I am not sure what to do with them next.
    I am thinking about maybe setting a cookie with the current tab index, but I don't know what to attach the onclick event to. Should I use a spry selector to add the onclick attribute to the a tag that is automatically generated?
    Does anyone else have any clever ideas?
    Cheers,

  • Spry Tabbed Panels IE7 on load problem

    Im having a problem with my new site. I used the spry

    all my sites content in the panel similar to how old iframes used
    to work. obviously the plus to this is i get to keep all my content

    the problem im having is on my version of IE7 the very first
    time i go the the site it loads every div section at once. so you
    have every image and all the text in one window. then i get the
    allow blocked content notice up at the top. after about 2 clicks it
    goes back to normal and never appears again until i restart.
    i checked on my partners comp and it didnt do this. im pretty

    Hi Ben,
    Ah, now that has helped, its a little bit better, but the performance in IE8 is very poor. Its not worth having the fade in IE8, its way too slow and jerky. I am tempted to go back to the old tabbed panels, see if its any better.
    Thanks for your help, you seem to be the new resident expert!

  • Validation Errors with Spry tabbed panels with doctype XHTML 1.0 Strict

    I'm getting errors while using the W3C Validation Service on my Strict XHTML 1.0 pages that use the SPRY Tabbed Panels.  I've read a few places that W3C has no plans on 'fixing or relaxing" the restrictions. Is there any type of work around to the Spry Widget Tab panels code ??? All of my other pages validate nicely... hate to go back to Transitional afterconverting all my other code.
    The DreamWeaver File validation also gives me errors but I think that is fed from W3C.
      Any help would be appreciated. Thanks   Pat

    Use Spry 2.0
    You can see a live demo of Spry 2.0 widgets below (contains valid markup).

    Unless you're incorporating XML applications into your web site, there is not much reason to use XHTML Strict doc types. That standard was last revised in 2002.  It has since been replaced with HTML5.
