SQFS remastering Question

I'm trying to estimate downtime to do rolling patches on a three node Sun cluster 3.2/RAC with sQFS. The question is, how disruptive is the move of sQFS and Scalable Resource Groups off of the QFS metadata server specifically? Is the remastering of the sQFS metadata server disruptive to just one node or all? Or is it transparent to the applications, or does it involve some down time while the RGs are moved?
My understanding is that Oracle, RAC and CRS will stop **on that node, the original metadata server**, but will continue to run on the other two. Some users and database processes will be terminated on the first node, but users can re-login and processes can be restarted on the surviving nodes.
Is that an accurate statement?

It is not an accurate statement. I discovered that there is no disruption (i.e., umounting) when re-mastering QFS volumes. The systems just treat it as very slow I/O. This is an imperfect description, but Shared QFS leases are "frozen" on the first server, moved (re-mastered) to the next node in the Nodelist property, and then "thawed."
So if there is a three node cluster with nodes A, B and C, and A is the metadata server with filesystems shared to B & C,
then,
Remastering the sQFS file systems to node B or C does NOT mean downtime. There is no umounting of filesystems, no disruption of applications.

Comming back, pidgin questions and where the ... is "archie"?

Hey, I'm seriously thinking of comming back. Its been about a year since my last install.
Going to try my hand at a virtual env later and see.
First question would be 3rd party sites for software or those scripted pkg makers.. Are there some sites I should bookmark right now
or is the majority of it kept in forum discussions?
Is the voice and video working in newest pidgin? (gtalk)
And where the HELL did "archie" go? The live arch cd that was in development. I reallly like having a live cd, or usb.
Are there any live arch project being worked on? Can they work on usb? - sites / links / keyboard are wanted

I did mean makepkg. While it is an easy (and great) way of making a package it isn't really in official packages.
But its good to see it still available. Probably won't need to use it much now, but good its here.
reguarding the live cd.. I haven't yet read through all the docs I need (getting back after a while and getting familiar with arch again)
are there "remastering" guides for the live cd? Because I have a old usb drive I was going to install "damn small" or "slax" but
if I could reduce the size I could add it and just be 100% arch again. (the size is 1gb BUT I need almost half for documents, my resume and some backups)

Help With mkisofs/Remastering Process?

I am trying to remaster the Archboot iso, and followed the Arch's wiki as closely as I could (there looked to be a Talk page saying it may be outdated).
For instance, mounting the iso was giving me read error with everything I had tried, so I installed fuseiso and used it instead. Additionally, I looked around on Google a bit on Iso Creation as a whole, and it looked to me as though mkisofs is more standard. I could be wrong, but it seems similar enough to genisoimage of the ArchWiki that their difference is a little inconsequential with regards to my question.
I was wondering how exactly I would go about creating a remastered Archboot/ArchLinux. In addition, some clarification on the bootloaders' roles in terms of what is in the command arguments would be greatly appreciated (There are folders for both Grub and Syslinux, which confused me)
The farthest I have gotten in remastering is getting to a Syslinux menu, with the main boot entries not working (everything else like Memtest and Reboot worked fine). Other attempts lead me to Fatal Error appearing upon starting the test machine, and in another instance, the screen was black except for a non-blinking underscore in the top left.
These attempts were largely with ImgBurn, as I found the Wiki proved to be unhelpful.
If there are any glaring differences with remastering Archboot, I'd appreciate the guidance as well.

I used whatever the default settings would be as this was a fresh install of Flash CC. I didn't make any adjustments. I just click FILE > EXPORT > EXPORT VIDEO
It made an MOV on my Desktop.
I'm home now and have checked some things and this is what I'm finding.
When you are in Flash CC and click FILE > EXPORT > EXPORT VIDEO and choose a path, an MOV is made that is gigantic. This gigantic file actually looks like it's supposed to.
It's when I convert the MOV to MP4 where the colors become washed out.
You can see it in the examples attached.
One is washed out (b) and the other isn't (a).
The washed out one was converted from MOV to MP4 using Adobe Media Encoder CC with the "Match Source - High Bitrate" preset.
How can I get the MP4 to come out with the same colors as the MOV?

HDMI audio questions

Apple supports 8 channel 24-bit audio at 192kHz, Dolby Surround 5.1 and stereo output."
So I have the following questions:
1. How does one get multi channel PCM music audio out of the mini?
2. Also, what about just straight stereo rips @ 192kHz/24 bit?
3. What players will support this?
4. Since they claim this functionality, what is the big problem with
streaming TrueHD or DTS-HD with movies? What am I missing here?
The reason for 1 thru 3 is that I am considering "remastering" some old
songs for a surround experience to my liking.

In the sound preferences set the output to optical.
You cannot get 5.1 output from the HDMI port for some reason. Only 3.1.

Remastering Install CD

I want to add a few things to the filesystem that is on the install cd but I cant get it to work. I've read this wiki: Remastering the Install ISO but I think it's outdated. I can't seem to find the initrd image but I do notice that there are three squashfs images in the root of the cd called core-pkgs.sqfs, overlay.sqfs and root-image.sqfs. Is the last one the root filesystem?
I tried to mount it using sudo mount -t squashfs -o loop root-image.sqfs ../edit but it gave me this error:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop2,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so

This question is best asked by way of example: let's say I rip a CD of The Beatles' 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band'; however, the CD is the original 1987 CD. Does iTunes Match play back this 'original' version of the album, or would Match play back the new, remastered version of the album from 2009? In other words, does iTunes Match 'upgrade' the quality of the songs from my ripped CD's -- playing the newest / remastered versions that are typically the version of the album available in the iTunes store. Or, for any CD I rip and add to my Match collection, does it only play back the CD "as is", without matching it with the latest version of the album available from iTunes.

A lot depends on whether Apple server has the original version as well as a remastered version. It is likely that the cd would match with the original but you may find that it will match with the version that is currently available in the iTunes Store. Don't be surprised if some songs match and others don't.
I suggest that you rip at 256 Kbps AAC to ensure that if the track is uploaded at a similar quality to the tracks available.

The word Resource in "Resouce Mastering" actually refers only to a Block. Not rows, table,..etc. Right?
Under what circumstance does the master of one resource (an instance) is changed to another one?
I read the following in a book titled "Pro Oracle Database 11g RAC on Linux"
Cache Fusion block transfers rely on the Global Resource Directory, and they never require more
than three hops, depending on the setup and the number of nodes. Obviously, if there are only two
cluster nodes, then there will be a two-way cache transfer. For more than two nodes, a maximum of
three hops will be necessary.
What is the hop they are talking about?

yes it refers to a block. Though the entity can be different - sometimes all blocks of an object (table) can be remastered. This then will affect all rows of the table. But remastering happens at block level.
If you put it in simple wording: "In general when an object is frequently accessed form one node only."
However this is not as easily reproduced. Also the internal mechanism to detect that is much more complicated.
The hop is a very small message.
Easiest described that way (this happens only when multiple instance wants to write/update. In case of reads it is much more simpler):
You have 3 partners in a RAC. One instance (A) has the block in cache, one instance (B) requests the block for writing, and one instance (C) is the master for the block.
Master means, this instance knows which instance has the block at the moment.
What generally is known in the cluster is, who is the master of each block. (That is maintained in the GCS).
So what happens now is, that B sends a message to C to know who own the block.
C then informs A to ship the block to B.
The block gets shipped and B informs C that now he (B) is the holder of the block.
So you have 3 informational messages, and one block shipping, which is the maximum.
If holder/requester and master are on the same node, you don't have any message (so 0 hops).

1) We have a requirement to customize the Print Quote report. I searched these forums and found that this report can be defined either as a XML Publisher report or an Oracle Reports report depending on a profile option. Can you please let me know what the name of the profile option is?
2) When I select the 'Print Quote' option from the Actions drop down in the quoting page and click Submit I get the report printed and see the following URL in my browser.

No, there is no conc program getting called, you can directly call a report in a browser window, Oracle reports server will execute the report and send the HTTP response to the browser.4) If we want to customize the jsp pages can you please let me know the steps involved in making the customizations and testing them.

Satellite P300D-10v - Question about warranty

I have these overheating problems with my laptop Satellite P300D-10v.
I did everything I could do to fix it without any success..
I get the latest update of the bios from Toshiba. I cleaned my lap with compressed air first and then disassembled it all and cleaned it better.(it was really clean insight though...)
BUT unfortunately the problem still exists...
So i made a research on the internet and I found out that most of Toshiba owners have the same exactly problem with their laptop.
Well i guess this is a Toshiba bug for many years now.
Its a really nice lap, cool sound (the best in laptop ever) BUT......
So I wanted to make a question. As i am still under warranty, can i return this laptop and get my money back or change it with a different one????
If any body knows PLS let me know.

Regarding the warranty question;
If there is something wrong with the hardware then the ASP in your country should be able to help you.
The warranty should cover every reparation or replacement.
But I read that you have disasembled the laptop at your own hand... hmmm if you have disasembled the notebook then your warrany is not valid anymore :(
I think this should be clear for you that you can lose the warrany if you disasemble the laptop!
By the way: you have to speak with the notebook dealer where you have purchased this notebook if you want to return the notebook
The Toshiba ASP can repair and fix the notebook but you will not get money from ASP.

Anyone know how to remove Overdrive books from my iphone that have been transferred from my computer? They do not show up on itunes. I see a lot of answers to this question but they all are based on being able to see the books in iTunes.

How do I remove Overdrive books from the library that were downloaded onto my computer then transferred to my iphone? The problem is that they do not show up in iTunes.
I see this question asked a lot when I google, but they always give answers that assumes you can find the books in iTunes either under the books tab, or the audio books tab or in the music. They do not show up anywhere for me. They do not remove from the app like the ones I downloaded directly onto my iphone.the related archived article does not answer it either. there is an app called daisydisk on mac app store which will help you see exactly where the memory is focused and consumed try using that app and see which folders are using more memory
