SQL 2005, 64bit

Hi,
We are planning to upgrade our BW Production Server to 64bit, SQL 2005. All the rest are using 32bit, SQL 2000. Rest includes BW Dev Server and SAP R3 Servers.
I am just wondering if there will be any problems with regards to this setup.
Any comments?

Agreed.
I listened to the recording of the TOI again last night and that reinforced it. Cisco appeared to be leaning to the next version of SQL rather than engineer/test support 64-bit SQL 2005. They asked for feedback from partners.
Given that the ICM is 32-bit running in WoW64 (Windows 32-bit on Windows 64-bit) I don't care about SQL at this stage. Eventually all the apps will run native 64-bit and then 64-bit SQL would be desirable.

Geoff

    Hello,
We will be installing an ICM Entreprise 8.5.2 on Windows2008 R2 which is a 64bit OS. Is it supported to install the 64bit version of SQL 2005 + SP4 or should we stick with the regular 32bit version of SQL 2005 SP4?

We get the following error SOMETIMES when trying to delete a row from an Oracle 10g database table via the SQL 2005 64BIT linked server.
DELETE [edwdev]..SYSTEM.SAIC_ARTIFACT_LOG FROM tblArtifactLog src WHERE src.source_seq_no = SAIC_ARTIFACT_LOG.art_seq_no and src.source_name = 'edwdev' [SQLSTATE 01000] (Message 0) Cannot fetch a row using a bookmark from OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "edwdev". [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7333). The step failed.
They keyword here is SOMETIMES. The job would fail 100% of the time before applying ODAC 10.2.0.3.0, after the ODAC install the job fails about 40% of the time. We have this setup in a test enviornment and yes there are rows of data in the table everytime the job runs.
As far as the OraOLEDB10.dll install we have a date of 2/20/07 but a version of 10.2.0.2. I am wondering if this shouldn't be a new version.

so does that mean no one at oracle can guide me in this issue before i goto microsoft ?How has the Linked Server been created in MSSQL? OraOLEDb.Oracle is the class name for the Oracle OLEDB provider which should appear in your list of OLEDB providers in your favourite windows dev tool or when creating the linked server. If it doesn't appear likely you didn't choose to install it. I don't know if it's a default install with the 64bit client, but the ODAC client contains the .net provider and not the OLEDB provider.

  • SQL 2005 SAP R/3 4.6C - DBSL error RC=99 on import of Basis 4.6C SP 39

    Hi,
I have just built a R/3 4.6C system on SQL 2005 with 4.6D_EXT kernel. The build was done using R3load to export from the 4.6C/SQL 2000/32bit system and import to 4.6C/SQL 2005/64bit system. The source 4.6C system only had Basis support package 37 applied, and I am trying to apply Basis 4.6C 38-57 on the 4.6C/SQL 2005/64bit system (in preparation for an ECC6 upgrade) and I get the following error:

    select serverproperty('collation')
    SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2
There are 97000 odd entries in DOKIL, so I don't think that is the problem.
    Would appreciate any assistance.
    Kind regards,

    Hi ,
Instead of doing the build with export import, you can try to do the same with backup restore,,
But remember your sql2000 should be on bin2... then you can take backup and restore.
Since it is from 2000 to 2005 the restore would happen and it will work fine.
Try this and check out, since the error you have pasted is not clearly giving any picture...
    Regards,
    Ravi.

  • What issues will I have if I take sql 2005 on 32bitOS TO sql 2005 on 64bit?

Last Year our SolMan was installed on 32bit OS, with SQL 2005 on Windows Ent. Edition (UNICODE).
I am preparing to migrate it to 64bit OS, and want to get there as quickly as possible without jepordizing the data integrity.
I was thinking that rather than doing a data export and import, that I could simply do a detach/attach of sql 2005
On the NEW server with 64bit OS My plan is to install SolMan 7.0 UNICODE & SQL 2005
If anyone has had experiences with this I would really appreciate tapping into your experience
    Thank You in Advance
    Regards,
    Maria

    Hello Maria,
We have used attach and detach method. We used the system copy option in the installation master for the java instance. Search for SAP notes for more detail - i dont have the right note handy.

  • Connect Non-SAP Oracle db (32bit) in sql 2005 (64 bit) using linked server

    Hi,
I am connecting Oracle 10g database from SQL 2005 using linked server, in which i get the error
"Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "L2ORACLE".
OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "L2ORACLE" returned message "Oracle client and networking components

SAP Server with sql 2005 db is in 64 bit server / Windows 2003
Non-SAP Oracle 10g is in 32 bit windows 2003 server.
i have installed Oracle 64 bit client in the SAP Server and also copied the 64 bit version of dboraslib.dll to the DIR_LIBRARY path. I am able to view the oracle tables in the oracle client.
But, when i create the linked server, it gives the above error.
If i install 32 bit version of Oracle client in the SAP Server, i am able to create the linked server in the db level, but, it says "Work Process restarted, session terminated" message in the Z program in SAP.
The same works in the test environment where both are 32 bit servers. problem is when SAP server is in 64 bit and non sap is in 32 bit.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Nagu

check the workprocess traces for errors (and/or SM21). It seems that the system is "not aware" that an Oracle client is installed.
64bit programs can´t load 32bit libraries/DLLs that´s why the workprocess dumps when you use the 32bit client.

  • XL Reporter problem with SQL 2005

    Hi,
We just migrated our SQL Server from 2000 to 2005. Everything seemed OK, until we tried to run XL Reporter addon. Our SQL 2005 is 64bit edition, and I heard the 64bit version has some problem with transferring data to Excel, for example.
has anybody had the some problem? How can we solve this?
    Thanks.

  • SQL 2005 Setup on Win7 Ultimate [No SQL Services after installation]

    Win 7 Ultimate (64bit)
    4GB RAM
New installation of Win 7 Ultimate
Re-installation of SQL: Originally SQLExpress which didn't work out so I went to SQL2005 Standard Edition SP1 & updated to SQL2005 SP4.  I installed Visual Studio 2005 during the SP1 installation.  Actually, I installed all SQL2005 components
    'just in case'.
I had attempted, unsuccessfully, to install SQLExpress so I uninstalled all SQLExpress components via Programs and Features, removed all SQL related directories and subdirectories in c:\Program Files (x86)\SQL.... and started the DVD setup.exe installation.
    [I didn't do a RegEdit32!]
Uniquely, During installation of SQL2005, I wasn't asked for the SQL Product Key nor whether the mode was Windows or Mixed (I want Mixed Mode).  Now, after rebooting with all MS updates (Win7 and SQL2005) I don't see any SQL services even though the
Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Backward compatibility and Books etc are listed as installed under Programs and Features.  IIRC, I saw a message regarding ASP.Net for 64bit being installed but some issues on the 32bit not being installed (warning message).
So, how do I get the necessary SQL 2005 services installed and get SQL functional???  I'm open to a complete re-install if necessary.  My original DVD is SQL2005 Standard Edition SP1, fyi.
    THANKS!

    1) SQL Server Configuration Manager?  Yes, I do under "Configuration Tools"  When selecting this and going into SQL Server 2005 Services I get "There are no items to show in this view".
    2) Exact SQL Server edition? From Help of SQL Server Configuration Manager: 2005.090.5000.00
    3) Compact Edition installed?  I used the SQL2005 SP1 Standard Edition DVD and then selected setup.exe.  If you'd like for me to uninstall SQL and reinstall I will (including removing appropriate SQL Server directories).  I'd remove the RegEdit
entries but I don't know where/what they are.  [[Note!: See #4 below where under Server Type I see "SQL Server Compact Edition  ... as well as Database Engine, Analysis Services, Reporting Services and Integration Services]
    4) ??: Since I can't get into SQL Server Management Studio.  I get "Cannot connect to XYZ02" "A network-related or instance specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL server.  The server was not found or was not accessible.
Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.  (Provider: Named Pipes Provider, error:40- Could not open a connection to SQL server) (Microsoft SQL server, Error:2)"  [Note: XYZ02 is the name
of the laptop and I used: Server Type: Database Engine; Server Name: XYZ02 (I had to enter as it wasn't listed); Authentication: Windows Authentication
So, suggestions... looks like I DO have Compact Edition?  Thoughts?????
    Thanks
BTW, I have another 64bit laptop (same mfr/model but with 8GB vs this 4GB under 64bit Win7 Ultimate) that runs SQL fine.  Been running SQL 2005 on it for 3-4+ years.

MS SQL cluster database instance - ONLY!

    Hi,
If possible could you please confirm that our planned landscape
    migration is supported by SAP.
At present our PRD SAP system is a standalone instance that consists of
the database & central instance running on the same "HOST".
    <u>Current SAP PRD version:</u>
    ERP 2004 ECC 5.0 32 bit
    MS SQL 2000 32 bit
both running on same host with OS Windows 2003 32 bit
We plan to upgrade/migrate our PRD SAP system to new 64 bit hardware
AND to move to a "Distributed" landscape installation i.e. database
instance & central instance installed on different HOSTS. Also, the
database instance WILL be clustered but the central instance will NOT
be clustered. There are also multiple NON-SAP MS SQL databases that
will run in the same cluster as the PRD SAP database instance.
    <u>SAP PRD version after migration:</u>
    SAP ERP 2004 ECC 5.0 64bit (running on X86_64 AMD64 hardware) on HOST'X'
MS SQL 2005 64 bit (running on IA64 hardware) on clustered HOST'Y'
Both running on Windows 2003 64 bit
    <u>My questions are:</u>
    1) Does SAP support a clustered MS SQL 2005 database instance that is
running on a clustered HOST along with NON-SAP MS SQL databases?
2)During the migration our PRD SAP MS SQL database will be upgraded
from MS SQL 2000 32 bit to MS SQL 2005 64 bit IA64, is this also
supported in a clustered istallation (database instance ONLY)?
    3) The central PRD SAP instance will be running on x86_64 AMD64
hardware & the database instance will be running on 64 bit IA64
    hardware. Is this configuration supported?
    Thanking you inadvance.

    Hi Greg,
Have you figured out the answer? We are trying do the exactly the same thing -- Move our SAP WAS 6.40 clustered central instance to a 64-bit hardware/SQL 2005/Clustered system. And this system has several non-SAP database on there. The biggest concern we have is whether SAP support this architecture. I posted a message here last year and several experts like Clas Hortien, N. P. C, in this form suggest NOT go to this architecture because SAP will not support it. One example, is that SAP/SQL requires server collation setting to SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2 and other databases may work on different collations.
Migrate SAP SQL Server database to co-exist with others
Anyway, if you or anyone in this form have some more information please share here.
    Thanks,

I obviously have the 32-bit content but I require the 64bit install. How do I locate the 64-bit installation content.
Should I first install with the 32-bit install and then update the components to 64-bit? Or is there a standalone 64-bit installer and content?

  • Has anyone upgraded sql 2005 to sql 2008 and win 2008 Netweaver 7.0, ECC 6?

We are currently running the following landscapes
    Netweaver BI 7..0 on windows 2003 , sql 2005,
    ECC 6.0 on windows 2003, sql 2005
    SAP Portal 7 on windoes 2003 , sql 2005
And would like to plan the migration to windows 2008, sql 2008 IE 7.0
I just wanted to get some feedback regarding if someone has already done this and how you all went about to upgrade? Issues you encountered, things to avoid, all that good stuff
Without doing much research yet, and having just completed the migration from 32bit OS to 64bit and sql 2000 to sql 2005, I had to perform a NEW install of SAP on parallel servers , export from 32bit and import to 64bit servers
When we upgrade to windows 2008 and sql 2008, will we ALSO require to do a NEW install of SAP? just like what I just finished?
    Please advise?

  • Connection with ms sql 2005

    Dear all,
I have two scenario to make connection with sql server 2005.
1)sqlserver and database 11g both on windows xp 32 bit  .
Is oracle Gateway best option in such scenario?
2)Sqlserver on windows xp and 11g database on solaris 64 bit.
Please provide step by step documents for this.
    Thanks

    Hi,
You can use an Oracle Database Gateway for both scenarios.
There are different combinations you can have depending how you want to setup your systems -
    1. sqlserver and database 11g both on windows xp 32 bit
You can install the gateway either as part of the existing RDBMS install or in a separate ORACLE_HOME.  It is usually better to install the gateway standalone in a separate OH as this makes maintenenace easier.
    2. Sqlserver on windows xp and 11g database on solaris 64 bit.
    You can either -
    a) install the gateway on the Solaris 64-bit machine to connect to the SQL*Server on Wiondows. Again you can install standalone or as part of the existing RDBMS
    b) from the RDBMS on Solaris 64-bit you can access a gateway on the Windows machine. If this is the same Windows machine as in scenario 1 then you can use that gateway which is already installed.
There are 2 gateways you can use to connect to SQL*Server -
    - Database Gateway for SQL*Server - DG4MSQL
    - Database Gateway for ODBC - DG4ODBC
There are differences in the licensing and functionality of these 2 gateways which are discussed in these notes -
Functional Differences Between DG4ODBC and Specific Database Gateways (Doc ID 252364.1)
Gateway and Generic Connectivity Licensing Considerations (Doc ID 232482.1)
The following notes have further details on setting up the gateways -
How to Setup DG4MSQL (Database Gateway for MS SQL Server) on Windows 32bit post install (Doc ID 466267.1)
How to Configure DG4MSQL (Oracle Database Gateway for MS SQL Server) 64bit Unix OS (Linux, Solaris, AIX,HP-UX) post install (Doc ID 562509.1)
How to Setup DG4ODBC (Oracle Database Gateway for ODBC) on Windows 32bit (Doc ID 466225.1)
How to Configure DG4ODBC on 64bit Unix OS (Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX Itanium) to Connect to Non-Oracle Databases Post Install (Doc ID 561033.1)

  • Browse Data & Parameter flds no longer fully populated after upgd  SQL 2005

I upgrade our SQL 2000 Server last weekend to SQL 2005 (sp2).
Now our Crystal reports that access SQL data are not working correctly. Parameter Fields are showing little to no data, where before the upgrade we were seeing many more rows in the list.
Digging further, I looked at the fields used for the dynamic LOV. If I use Browse Data on those fields I am seeing the same lack of data. One "Browse Data" that would typically return 80 items now returns 3 items. In that report the data field is DateTime. In another report, the field is string.
I am also seeing an extra check for User Name and password before getting to the Enter values screen for the parameter.
I am using Crystal Developer 11.0.0.1994. It is happening on multiple PCs. I tried with both the original SQL ODBC Driver and the newer SQL Native Client ODBC driver, with the same result.
I've looked at this for 3 days with no luck. Any ideas?

    Full SysAdmin rights.
I use a dedicated ODBC connection and have tried both "SQL Server" odbc driver and "SQL NativeClient" (2005) odbc driver.
If I go to Crystal, to the Field Explorer, to the one of the fields, right-click and "Browse Data..." I get two results (I expect 82 results and have seen that in the past.) If I paste the query from Crystal, Database, "Show SQL Query.."  to SQL Server Management Studio, I see the full, correct results.
In one example the field browsed is called "PeriodEndDate" (DateTime). A dynamic Parameter Field was created accessing this field. Here is the security curiosity...refreshing now asks for the user login each time "Prompt for new parameter values" is selected. It used to ask only the first time. The Crystal: Data Explorer" shows the current connection logged in ok.
The two issues may or may not be related. Certainly if #1 were fixed, dynamic parameters would return the correct results. Even if it asked for the password each time.
1.) "Browse Data" returning a smaller result than normal.
2.) "Parameter Prompt" asks for Server Name, Database Name, User Name, and Password on
each refresh selecting "Prompt for new parameter values".

  • Dsml and SQL 2005 reporting services?

I usually post over in the IDM forum so be nice to the newbie here :)
I have a Sun Directory server that I've enabled DSML on. On that side everything is good. However, ideally I want to pull this data into a MS SQL 2005 reporting services report. They have support for XML and web services, but the DSML front end doesn't accept GET requests and I don't know how to send the request as post in reporting services.
Has anyone else be able to get something like this working?
    Thanks!

No idea about MS SQL, but is your reporting service able to use files on disk? If so I guess your problem is easily solved by using an app to fetch data from directory server to disk. If you're more adventerous, you write a script in perl/python which acts as a proxy and translates GET requests to POST and relays data back in real time. Not sure if these help or not, just my thoughts.
