SQL 2005 Databases not Discovered

We have a SQL 2005 server, where the DB instance itself has been discovered but the SQL DBs themselves have not. Any way to understand / troubleshoot why not. Other instances work just fine.

The account is just fine, and it is a sysadmin on the server. It discovered the instance even, unlike by my other post:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/systemcenter/en-US/7da4b442-c9e4-4aac-9cb9-d2af0b1ffbaa/clustered-database-engine-not-discovered?forum=operationsmanagermgmtpacks&prof=required
That said, it doesn't discover DBs. I haven't seen any errors in the event log pertaining to the discovery. The bug fix posted above also hasn't helped me.
When trying to run this MP script manually it also returns XML:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/jimmyharper/archive/2009/06/11/sql-database-properties-not-discovered.aspx
So, I'm not really sure that is going on here. What is the expected return I am supposed to get.

  • SQL 2005 will not connect in SQL 2012 profiler

We have a few SQL 2005 databases that we manage. I went to do a trace on them(recently upgraded to 2012) and it gives me the error, "SQL Server Native Client 11.0 does not support connections to SQL Server 2000 and earlier versions".
According to MSDN it does.  https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc280356(v=SQL.110).aspx
"SQL Server Native Client 11.0 supports connections to SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2008, SQL Server 2008
R2, SQL Server 2012, and Windows Azure SQL Database."
Any clue why it wouldn't let me connect?

Can you specify the following parameter in the "connect to server" dialog when you load the Profiler --> click on "options" button and go to "Additional Connection Parameters" tab and paste the following?

  • OCS 2007 R2 with SQL 2005 database mirroring failover?

We have OCS 2007 Enterprise Edition installed fine and with the databases mirrored to a backup server/location.  I'm testing our environment for a potential disaster, including losing our primary SQL server (SQL 2005).  I fail the databases over and update the backend pool to the backup SQL server name, but we cannot connect via Office Communicator and I see this error on the OCS server:
OCS User Services, error category 1006, event id 30962:
Connection to back-end database succeeded, but failed to execute registration stored procedure on the back-end. This error should not occur under normal operating conditions. Contact product support.

Can anyone shed some light on this SQL 515 error?  Thanks in advance!

We're having a similar issue but with error number 601. I've tried a million different things aside from restoring the database, which may be next. I tried editing the procedure and I *think* I edited the right lines 77 and 105 for me. Changed:
        delete dbo.DbConfigDateTime

           and t.StoredDbName = N'rtc'

           and t.StoredDbName = N'rtc'
           and t.Value is not null
    and
        delete rtcdyn.dbo.DbConfigDateTime
        from @DbTime as t

Not sure if that's where the modification is supposed to go. Any clarity here? Anyone else get a 601 error?

  • B1 create User Defined Field as nvarchar(max) in SQL 2005 database

    Hi everyone,
I just created a UDF in B1 as alphanumeric(12), and noticed that B1 created a field in SQL 2005 as nvarchar(max) instead of nvarchar(12). I tested with both 2005A SP01 patch 14 and patch 20. It always creates UDF as nvarchar(max). Is this a bug? It will cause db file use more disk space and also reduce the query performance. Also, B1 won't create the index on the UDF even if you select the option.
    Thanks for help,
    David

    Hi David,
I was running on patch 19 when I wrote my earlier posts. I'm now running patch 20 without any issues. I also have a range of clients who are running SBO 2005A SP1 on various patch levels above 10 (though not all are on SQL 2005) and I've yet to come across this issue.
Did you log this with SAP Support? Have they come up with any suggestions?
    Maybe this will work:
    1) Start SBO. When you get to the login screen, click on Choose Company.
    2) Change the Current Server field from SQL 2005 to SQL 2000. Reenter your server settings if prompted
    3) Login as normal and try and create your field.
    4) Log out and go back in to change back to SQL 2005
    Kind Regards,
    Owen

  • SQL 2005 database authentication Problem

In the past we have used sql user authentication to create
the CF datasource for SQL databases, however, we would like to use
windows authentication instead, does CF support windows
    authentication?

OK, so in 7.01, you need to upgrade the drivers to get
Windows Authentication to work. The drivers that were built-in in 7
were the 3.4 version from Merant/DataDirect. They weren't updated
(as a default in the install of CF) until 8,when they were updated
    to 3.6.
The 3.5 drivers added Windows authentication, and you can
apply them to a CF 7/7.01/7.02 install. Check out my blog entry:
    http://carehart.org/blog/client/index.cfm/2006/8/8/jdbc3.5_update
If you wonder what version of the drivers you may already be
running (in case someone may already have updated the drivers), see
    this entry:
    http://www.carehart.org/blog/client/index.cfm/2006/8/8/checking_jdbc_driver_version
Or more simply, just try removing the username/password
values in the setup for the SQL Server DSN, to see if it works. If
not (and assuming it's not complaining about the CF account
username not being an authorized user of the DB), then it seems an
update of the drivers is in order. See my first blog entry above
for more on what the drivers offer, and why Adobe didn't just
update the drivers in the 7 updaters and cumulative hot fixes, so
that you must apply the update manually.

  • DI API Deadlocks in SQL 2005 database server

    Hello All,
I have an Issue, which is coming on large databases ( > 50GB) and number of users >  20.
I have read the following notes
    1269591, 1489753, 1318311, 1231444 , 1344641 , 1316554
also contributed in the following thread:
    Workaround:
Each SAP B1 Client is using an addon, which do a WM (Warehouse management) based on WHSE Journal. Until upgraded to 2007 version, this was working fine, no issue came up only system was slow.
Process with pseudo code like this
'incoming cases - when an item is entering into the warehouse
Add Logistics documents (action success = true)
    - start transaction
      - check Warehouse journal
      - record changes done by this document (based on oinm) into (UDT)
    - finish transaction
'outgoing cases - where an item is carried out from the warehouse - create a self pick list example: sales order:
    start transaction
    - loop on every rows of the sales order
      - read ordered quantity
      - look for place where it is stored,
    - if found make  a reservation in (UDT)
      - add position to self created pick list  (UDT)
    finish  transaction
    'release from warehouse
    start transaction
      - look for pick list position (UDT)
      - reduce stock value (UDT)
      - update pick list  with packed quantity (UTD)
      - create delivery note
    finish  transaction
Depending from activity the users receive various error messages like Could not commit transaction / Deadlock ...  / -2038 Internal error xxxx messages, when trying to access to UDT-s or any marketing documents, and the system is frozen. I go to activity monitor, and check and tell them which client is causing dead locks, they log off ,and can continue work or if the process runs to timeout, it sends the error message to SAP B1 Client.
Also we have an addon which reads (only reads) data from database from OITM / OITW / and one of these UDT above. (queries against stock value from UDT). here we receive 2 type of error messages
    - Deadlock
    - Timeout
I know these messages are coming from: other computers /Users are issueing documents in transaction.
Any ideas to resolve this issue / has anybody happened this issue ?
    Every ideas, comments are welcome.
The system is b1 2007 SP 01 PL 10. Average document position between 50-100.
    Solution Architect team? Any workaround?

  • MS SQL 2005 clustered database instance.

    Short Text
MS SQL cluster database instance - ONLY!
    Long Text
    Hi,
If possible could you please confirm that our planned landscape
    migration is supported by SAP.
At present our PRD SAP system is a standalone instance that consists of
the database & central instance running on the same "HOST".
    <u>Current SAP PRD version:</u>
    ERP 2004 ECC 5.0 32 bit
    MS SQL 2000 32 bit
both running on same host with OS Windows 2003 32 bit
We plan to upgrade/migrate our PRD SAP system to new 64 bit hardware
AND to move to a "Distributed" landscape installation i.e. database
instance & central instance installed on different HOSTS. Also, the
database instance WILL be clustered but the central instance will NOT
be clustered. There are also multiple NON-SAP MS SQL databases that
will run in the same cluster as the PRD SAP database instance.
    <u>SAP PRD version after migration:</u>
    SAP ERP 2004 ECC 5.0 64bit (running on X86_64 AMD64 hardware) on HOST'X'
MS SQL 2005 64 bit (running on IA64 hardware) on clustered HOST'Y'
Both running on Windows 2003 64 bit
    <u>My questions are:</u>
    1) Does SAP support a clustered MS SQL 2005 database instance that is
running on a clustered HOST along with NON-SAP MS SQL databases?
2)During the migration our PRD SAP MS SQL database will be upgraded
from MS SQL 2000 32 bit to MS SQL 2005 64 bit IA64, is this also
supported in a clustered istallation (database instance ONLY)?
    3) The central PRD SAP instance will be running on x86_64 AMD64
hardware & the database instance will be running on 64 bit IA64
    hardware. Is this configuration supported?
    Thanking you inadvance.

    Hi Greg,
Have you figured out the answer? We are trying do the exactly the same thing -- Move our SAP WAS 6.40 clustered central instance to a 64-bit hardware/SQL 2005/Clustered system. And this system has several non-SAP database on there. The biggest concern we have is whether SAP support this architecture. I posted a message here last year and several experts like Clas Hortien, N. P. C, in this form suggest NOT go to this architecture because SAP will not support it. One example, is that SAP/SQL requires server collation setting to SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2 and other databases may work on different collations.
Migrate SAP SQL Server database to co-exist with others
Anyway, if you or anyone in this form have some more information please share here.
    Thanks,
    Yujun Ran

  • IPC 4.0 Standalone with SQL 2005 Express as a database

    Hello,
I am trying to setup IPC 4.0 standalone up for a training class on a XP laptop with SQL 2005 Express as the database.  I keep getting login errors connecting the IPC admin.bat tool to the sql database.  And yes, I know this is not 'officially' supported by SAP, but I see no technical reason why it shouldn't work and yes my port is correct.  My entries are as such:
    Alias: 00_230
    Server: localhost
    System: Microsoft SQL Server
    Database Name: 00_230
    port: 1433
    User: ipc
    password: hidden
    client: 230
Is everything I entered correct?  Am I missing anything that I need?
    Thanks!

    Hi Jeff.
You will probably have problems with the database subsystem, when you upgrade to UccX7.0.1 if the 3rd party database is af SQL2k5 server.
There is a fix for that problem, check below :
Upgrading UCCX to 7.0(1)Sr4 is failing ODBC connection to SQL 2005.
    Symptom:
Upgrading the UCCX server to 7.0(1) Sr4 and OS to 2003.1.4a SR11 is failing the ODBC connection to SQL 2005 external database.  (also a problem in new installations)
The error generated when trying to setup a ODBC connection to SQL 2005 database is
    ======
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
    =======
    Conditions:
Upgrade to UCCX 7.0(1) Sr3 or 4 and OS upgrade to 2003.1.4a SR11
    Workaround:
    Work around:
    a) In UCCX SQL Server 2000 - Start the Client Network Utility.  (cliconfg.exe is used from MSDE versions of UccX)
    b) On the General tab, add TCP/IP in the list under Enabled protocols by order. (make sure its first)
    c) Click the Alias tab, and then click Add. Under Network libraries, select TCP/IP.
    d) In the Server name text box, type the IP address of the server that is running SQL Server
    2005.
    Note:
If port other that 1433 is being used Click the check box to clear the Dynamically determine port option, and then type the port number of the instance of SQL Server 2005 in the Port number text box.

  • Cluster Installation - SQL 2005 / 2003 - Creating cluster group

    Hi All,
I am working on the cluster Installation in our environment and facing some issues at the time of installing first node MSCS  Installation. let me summarize the activities done so far
    Environment Details

    C: Local disk
    Q: (Physical Disk Quorum - SAN )

-- > SCS installed locally in the server in G drive
Virtual Hostname and IP : SeparateIP & cluster1
Node 1: Hostname and separate IP
Node 2 : hostname and Separate IP
Installed MSCS service and tested the same - its working fine
Installed SQL 2005 database in cluster mode and its working fine
    Started installing SAP
Step 1: Installation of SCS instance in node A (Used F drive) - Successfull Installed
Step 2: Installation of First node MSCS in node A
Here I am facing an issue, in the end phase of the installation it will ask for creating cluster group -- > There I need to define the Global disk as F (Which is defined at the time of installing SCS instance) - But i dont see that disk is available in the drop down box .
Is there any other workaround to bring the Global disk while creating the cluster group (First node MSCS installation)
    Looking forward for your suggestions
    Thanks and Regards

    Regret for the late update
112266 solved my problem and In my case, I have bisected the disk as two but in the cluster environment that should not be the case. Ensure the the same in disk management

  • Can SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 drivers co-exist in PI?

    Hi,
Currently in our PI environment, we have JDBC Adapter connections to SQL 2000 database servers for which the Driver has already been installed.
For connecting to new SQL 2005 database servers, I understand that we have to install the SQL 2005 drivers. I also came to know that SQL 2005 Driver is backward compatible and supports JDBC connection to SQL 2000 server.
But the question I have is whether both the SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 drivers can be installed together in a way that connection to SQL 2000 use the 2000 driver and the connection to 2005 uses 2005 Driver.
    (They have different connection strings)
    Many thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Rosie Sasidharan

The SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver is far better than the SQL Server 2000 JDBC driver.  The 2005 JDBC driver primarily consists for one file, sqljdbc.jar.  ( if you want to use windows authentication there is another file you would need based on your platform x64 vs x86 called sqljdbc_auth.dll. If in the connect string you list ;integratedSecurity=true which means integrated security would be used and this second file would be required.  The 2000 driver did not support integrated security.
The SQL 2000 JDBC driver was made up of the 3 jar files:
    msbase.jar,mssqlserver.jar and msutil.jar.
If you want to use a Microsoft JDBC driver to connect to SQL Server 2005, than you should use the 2005 driver, sqljdbc.jar.
Follow the instructions in point 1 of the note #831162 - FAQ: XI 3.0 / PI 7.0 / PI 7.1 JDBC Adapter questions 1 and 13.
Since the jar are different I assume you can use the both drivers, but it doesnt make sense.
