SQL 2005 Setup on Win7 Ultimate [No SQL Services after installation]

Win 7 Ultimate (64bit)
4GB RAM
New installation of Win 7 Ultimate
Re-installation of SQL: Originally SQLExpress which didn't work out so I went to SQL2005 Standard Edition SP1 & updated to SQL2005 SP4.  I installed Visual Studio 2005 during the SP1 installation.  Actually, I installed all SQL2005 components
'just in case'.
I had attempted, unsuccessfully, to install SQLExpress so I uninstalled all SQLExpress components via Programs and Features, removed all SQL related directories and subdirectories in c:\Program Files (x86)\SQL.... and started the DVD setup.exe installation.
[I didn't do a RegEdit32!]
Uniquely, During installation of SQL2005, I wasn't asked for the SQL Product Key nor whether the mode was Windows or Mixed (I want Mixed Mode).  Now, after rebooting with all MS updates (Win7 and SQL2005) I don't see any SQL services even though the
Microsoft SQL Server 2005, Backward compatibility and Books etc are listed as installed under Programs and Features.  IIRC, I saw a message regarding ASP.Net for 64bit being installed but some issues on the 32bit not being installed (warning message).
So, how do I get the necessary SQL 2005 services installed and get SQL functional???  I'm open to a complete re-install if necessary.  My original DVD is SQL2005 Standard Edition SP1, fyi.
THANKS!

1) SQL Server Configuration Manager?  Yes, I do under "Configuration Tools"  When selecting this and going into SQL Server 2005 Services I get "There are no items to show in this view".
2) Exact SQL Server edition? From Help of SQL Server Configuration Manager: 2005.090.5000.00
3) Compact Edition installed?  I used the SQL2005 SP1 Standard Edition DVD and then selected setup.exe.  If you'd like for me to uninstall SQL and reinstall I will (including removing appropriate SQL Server directories).  I'd remove the RegEdit
entries but I don't know where/what they are.  [[Note!: See #4 below where under Server Type I see "SQL Server Compact Edition  ... as well as Database Engine, Analysis Services, Reporting Services and Integration Services]
4) ??: Since I can't get into SQL Server Management Studio.  I get "Cannot connect to XYZ02" "A network-related or instance specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL server.  The server was not found or was not accessible.
Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.  (Provider: Named Pipes Provider, error:40- Could not open a connection to SQL server) (Microsoft SQL server, Error:2)"  [Note: XYZ02 is the name
of the laptop and I used: Server Type: Database Engine; Server Name: XYZ02 (I had to enter as it wasn't listed); Authentication: Windows Authentication
So, suggestions... looks like I DO have Compact Edition?  Thoughts?????
Thanks
BTW, I have another 64bit laptop (same mfr/model but with 8GB vs this 4GB under 64bit Win7 Ultimate) that runs SQL fine.  Been running SQL 2005 on it for 3-4+ years.

  • IPC 4.0 Standalone with SQL 2005 Express as a database

    Hello,
I am trying to setup IPC 4.0 standalone up for a training class on a XP laptop with SQL 2005 Express as the database.  I keep getting login errors connecting the IPC admin.bat tool to the sql database.  And yes, I know this is not 'officially' supported by SAP, but I see no technical reason why it shouldn't work and yes my port is correct.  My entries are as such:
    Alias: 00_230
    Server: localhost
    System: Microsoft SQL Server
    Database Name: 00_230
    port: 1433
    User: ipc
    password: hidden
    client: 230
Is everything I entered correct?  Am I missing anything that I need?
    Thanks!

    Hi Jeff.
You will probably have problems with the database subsystem, when you upgrade to UccX7.0.1 if the 3rd party database is af SQL2k5 server.
There is a fix for that problem, check below :
Upgrading UCCX to 7.0(1)Sr4 is failing ODBC connection to SQL 2005.
    Symptom:
Upgrading the UCCX server to 7.0(1) Sr4 and OS to 2003.1.4a SR11 is failing the ODBC connection to SQL 2005 external database.  (also a problem in new installations)
The error generated when trying to setup a ODBC connection to SQL 2005 database is

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
    =======
    Conditions:
Upgrade to UCCX 7.0(1) Sr3 or 4 and OS upgrade to 2003.1.4a SR11
    Workaround:
    Work around:
    a) In UCCX SQL Server 2000 - Start the Client Network Utility.  (cliconfg.exe is used from MSDE versions of UccX)
    b) On the General tab, add TCP/IP in the list under Enabled protocols by order. (make sure its first)
    c) Click the Alias tab, and then click Add. Under Network libraries, select TCP/IP.
    d) In the Server name text box, type the IP address of the server that is running SQL Server
    2005.
    Note:
If port other that 1433 is being used Click the check box to clear the Dynamically determine port option, and then type the port number of the instance of SQL Server 2005 in the Port number text box.

  • IPCC 4.0(5) with Sql 2005 Enterprise DB

    Hello,
I currently have IPCC 4.0(5) (no SR) doing with an ODBC connection to a SQL 2000 server.  I am preparing to upgrade the SQL 2000 server to SQL 2005 (only upgrading a SQL server, not touching SQL 2000 running on IPCC).
According to the document in the link below, support for SQL 2005 as an enterprise db was not posted until IPCC 4.0(5) SR2.  I will be upgrading to IPCC 7.x very soon, but need to buy time and avoid touching IPCC 4.0(5).  Does anyone know if the ODBC connection from IPCC 4.0(5) will connect to a SQL 2005 server?

  • B1i (2005) installation failedSo far:  windows XP, MS-SQL 2005 express: ok

    Dear All,
I try to install B1i for NW 2005 on a SBO 2005B installation. I have installed all prerequisites like JDK, MSXML, Tomcat (no blanks in path). When running the setup program and after all information gathered, the connection to the MS-SQL 2005 database succeeds and the final installation step starts but returns the message:
"Initail database failed, make sure Tomcat or mini-http is shut down and please check your database's status and try again"
Looking into MS-SQL shows a database beeing created named localhost/B1i. Tomcat and mini-http are definately shut down. When starting Tomcat, it is accessible via http://localhost:8080.
    System Parameters:
    windows server 2003
    SBO 2005B
    java: 1.4.2.19
tomcat 5.5.27 including compat package for 1.4.2.19)
    sql jdbc 1.2.2828.100
    msxml 4.0 SP 2
I can not find an error in the system. Is there a way to diagnose what is happening and does anyone have an idea where the problem lies?
    Ciao, Mathias
    [Update]
I have tried JDBC 2.0.1008 and JDBC 2.0.1607 - both lead to a fatal error when trying to connect to the database. I assume this is due to Java JDK 1.4.2 as JDBC requires Java 5.0 (1.5.0)
Does anybody know if I can use JDK 1.5.0_17 instead of 1.4.2_19?
    [Update 2]
I have tried to install the B1i on two other servers with identical setup and it worked. However, this will not help me with this machine... On the other side, it shows, that there is nothing wrong with the procedure I am using
I found by the way: B1i works fine with MSSQL 2005 Express, it works with jdk 1.5.0.17 (and then JDBC 2.0)
    [Update 3]
    So far:
windows XP, MS-SQL 2005 express: ok
    windows XP, MS-SQL 2005 express, SBO2005A: ok
    windows 2003, MS-SQL 2005 SBO2005A: fail
    windows 2003, MS-SQL 2005 SBO2005B: fail
    windows 2003, MS-SQL 2005 SBO2007A: ok
    windows 2003, MS-SQL 2005 Netweaver 2004S: fail
Unfortunately the three servers where it fails are the ones I need to use for production
The precise error state is that the install routine creates the database in SQL 2005 and then reports that it can not create the database. Is there something I should check in SQL 2005?
Edited by: Mathias Wilhelm on Feb 11, 2009 5:17 PM

    Salut Eddy,
I tried it with tomcat 5.0.30 - no success. JDK is 1.4.2.19
I tried it with tomcat 5.5.27 - no success. JDK was 1.4.2.19 and 1.5.17
I checked the database: The structure is created but the tables are not created. As the user 'sa' has full admin rights it must be with the access path to the database that is wrong. What I do not understand is, why the installation routine is able to connect to the database to create B1i and then unable to create the tables. I checked in the log files of the db and found no error messages. I tested this as well by using a wrong password for sa or a wrong user. In both cases, the installation routine fails already when checing the existence of B1i database
    [Update]
    In the meantime:
    Checked permissions on database
Checked that administrator is member of local admin group
    Checked JAVA_HOME environment variable
Found collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS for working setup and SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CS_AS in failing setup
Checked all security settings by comparing to working setup
Checked event viewer and found no errors
Checked all log files and found no errors
Checked that sa can create tables manually in localhost\B1i
    Ciao, Mathias

  • Managed Service Accounts on SQL 2005?

I am doing research on the proper way to configure service accounts in SQL as ours are absolutely setup incorrectly.  I was thinking about using Managed Service Accounts (MSA's) so we dont have to manage passwords going forward and I cant find anything
to say if it is compatible with SQL 2005 or not.
It looks like it is with SQL 2008R2 as well as SQL 2012.
Anyone using MSA's with SQL 2005?  Can I one account per service for each of the services without an issue?

    Hello,
MSA's are not compatible with SQL Server 2005 or 2008 but 2008R2 and 2012 will work.

  • SQL 2005 key

    Hello,
can anybody support me the key for the SQL 2005??
on our last installation we got a cd from the sql 2000 which including the standard SQL key.
This time we downloaded the SQL 2005 but we dont have a key for the installation..
    Thank you and best regards
    Serkan

    Hi Serkan
Where did you purchase the SQL? If from SAP then they will provide a key. If from a reseller then they will provide the key. From the word  download you used, I am assuming that it is a "pirate copy" in which case no-one in the forum can help you with a key as this would be illegal.
Unfortunately you must pay for licenses for SQL regardless what software you purchase or install.
    Kind regards

    Hi,
Am not sure this would answer your question or not, but this is for your info:
Visual Composer is now built in or provided as default component in EP7.0 SPS12 onwards.
If you have the portal installation then you can access this by http://hostname:5xx00/VC.

  • Change SQL 2005 collation after installation

We're trying to install an Enterprise Portal (2004s) on SQL Server 2005. The instance of SQL Server has been installed with collation SQL_LATIN1_GENERAL_CP850_BIN instead of the required BIN2 variant. Is there any way to install the latter collation on this SQL Server instance? With SQL 2000 there was the instcoll.exe tool. We need something similar for SQL 2005.

This is very easy in SQL 2005 and can be done on individual database's. To do it in this fashion then follow these steps
    1) Open up the SQL server management studio
    2) Connect to the database engine
    3) Expand Databases
    4) Right-click on the database you want to change and select Properties
    5) Click on the Options
    6) Select the required collation
    I hope this helps

    Hello Dennis and Kenka,
The table sap_tabstats is not cleared out after the upgrade to SQL
Server 2008. The records in sap_tabstats became unusable after the
schema was switched to tcp from dbo. That is because the table
sap_tabstats has a column uid which tracks which schema a table belongs
to . Note 1305752 is being written to address this situation.
I logged into your system, and the table appears to of been populated
over the course of the last several days.

We have an old sql 2005 box that I am rebuilding with a newer OS (please, don't ask why!) but using the original master, msdb, etc.   The main problem I'm having is during the sql 2005 install I need to install the log files on drive D and the mdf's
