SQL 2012 install fails with 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.'
Hi, I'm trying to install SQL 2012 RTM Enterprise on a Windows 2008 R2 single node cluster.
The installer starts goes through some checks and then fails with the message 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' It happens while the small 'wait while...' dialog box is
showing, another window pops up briefly (I think the feature selection window - can't really tell as it doesn't draw before disappearing). Then the ‘Object reference not set’ message comes up.
From the summary log file..

Hi All,
Could you please help me here? On my Laptop which is running on windows 8.1 Operation system, I enabled the Hyper-V client feature and setup the Windows Fail-over Clustering using Windows 2012 Standard Edition. So, there are three machines which are running
on the Hyper-V. Below are the machine details;
1st machine - Working as Domain controller and its name is "ACONDomainGroup" and allocated to
1GB RAM to use.
2nd machine - Working as Node1 and its name is "AconNODE1W2K12STD"
and allocated to 2.5GB RAM to use.
3rd machine - Working as Node1 and its name is "AconNODE1W2K12STD"
and allocated to 1.5GB RAM to use.
and the windows virtual cluster name is "AconWinCLTR". While I am doing the SQL Cluster Installation, I am getting below mentioned error. all systems have 4.5 .net installed. May you please guide me where and what i am missing to complete sql clustering.....

Hi, My name is Leonard and I am studying SQL. I have downloaded the newest MS SQL 2012 and also MS 2012 Hyper-V. I have set a MS 2012 Hyper-V on a laptop with AMD Turion 64 X2 and 3G of RAM (Planing
to add more to max at 8G).
Following the instructions in the free online
Administering Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Databases” Training Kit, I have set 6 virtual machines as instructed in the Training Kit. While the installation of the MS Server Core 2008 R2 SP1 completed with no
problem, the same cannot be said for the SQL Server 2012 installation. I have encountered an error that I have not seen anyone address in any of the SQL web forums.
After running the unattended setup instruction (Setup.exe /qs /ACTION=Install /FEATURES=SQLEngine /INSTANCENAME=MSSQLSERVER
/SQLSVCACCOUNT="Njowa\Pa$$worD>" /SQLSVCPASSWORD=" Pa$$worD” /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="Njowa\lenny#4!@" /AGTSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\Network Service"
/IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS) this is what I get after a series SQL setup
initiation windows popups then disappears.
The following error occurred:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Error result: -2147467261
Result facility Code: 0
Result error Code: 16387
Please review the summary.txt log for further details
My question is: What instance of an object is not properly initialize in the Setup instructionsHello,
Please note that SQL Server requires at least 1 GB of RAM. The operating system (Windows Server) requires 2 GB of RAM (recommended) or 512 MB (minimum). This means any virtual machine that will receive the installation of a SQL Server instance requires 1.5
or 2 GB at least.
The behavior of SQL Server setup tells me that the virtual machine does not have enough memory assigned or .NET Framework 3.5 was not enable on Control Panel->Program
and Features before trying to install SQL Server.
The following thread is about another possible cause of this error:
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/mr-IN/sqlsetupandupgrade/thread/575d3025-69f5-4152-a473-44496b008811
Hope this helps.

Hello
We're trying to use a Model-First with Entity Framework in Visual Studio, targeting an Oracle XE 11g installation.
No matter from what angle we're approaching the issue, we always end up with an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" in Visual Studio:
First way:
- Add new ADO.NET Entity Framework Model to a .NET Framework 4.5 project
- Empty model
- Add some entities and associations
- Set Database Generation Workflow to "Generate Oracle Via T4 (TPT).xaml"
- Set DDL Generation Template to "SSDLToOracle.tt"
- Generate Database From Model
- VS asks for DB connection ==> Click "New Connection"
- Enter the connection properties to the Oracle XE database. "Test Connection" tells me the connection is okay.
- Click OK. Visual Studio shows the following error message:
(here's the image if it's not visible: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35614983/vs2012_oracle_ef_error.png)
We also tried to generate the model in VS2010 and then manually transform it to an EF5 / VS2012 model. At the "Generate Database from Model" step, the same error appeared.
We also tried to generate the model from database (Database-First approach). Same error.
My configuration:
- Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
- Installed Oracle client: ODTwithODAC1120320_32bit.zip, so the version is 11.2.0.3.20
- Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 (11.0.60610.01)
Thanks for any hints!
EDIT: I just read that ODP.NET doesn't seem to support Entity Framework 5, so I tried a new project with Entity Framework 4.1, but I get the same errors.
EDIT 2: On a 32-bit Windows 7 virtual machine, everything works fine. Seems the problem is only there on my 64-bit Windows 7 machine.Sorry for the delay on this one. Let me know if you are still seeing this and I will see if we can get more diagnostic info somehow.
That error is basically an exception fault. It means a bug or a misconfiguration of Oracle Developer Tools. Can you try to reinstall ODT and see if you notice any unusual errors during install.. and see if a reinstall fixes the problem? -
hi,
We have deployed Sharepoint 2013 in hosting mode. And i followed this
guide. And i have 1 web server, 1 app server and 1 DB server. My Application server is logging 2 critical event after every 15 min.
Event ID: 1502, Task Category: Timer Job, Source: SharePoint Translation Services
"Timer job '735da5fd-a74a-46b8-9a75-70e85d125eb2' for service application 'Translation Service Application' is failing to execute. More information is included below.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object. "
Followed by this one one more critical event,
Event ID: 6398, Task Category: Timer , Source: SharePoint Foundation
"The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.Office.TranslationServices.QueueJob (ID 735da5fd-a74a-46b8-9a75-70e85d125eb2) threw an exception. More information is included below.
Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
I tried to search everywhere, but no solution. Because of this two critical events AppFabricCaching service is also crashing.
Any suggestion how i can fix this?
SaMHi SaM,
According to your error message, it says that the Timer job '735da5fd-a74a-46b8-9a75-70e85d125eb2' for service application 'Translation Service Application' fail to create due to some referred object cannot
be found. For this issue, it can be caused by missing assembly .
Could you please provide detail error message of ULS log to determine the exact cause of the error?
For SharePoint 2013, by default, ULS log is at
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS
Here is a blog you can have a look:

I have installed Project Server 2013 on SharePoint 2013, and installed the first PWA which worked. But I needed to change some configurations and so I deleted the PWA instances, but now I cannot delete the Project Server Service Application. Every attempt
to delete the Service Application it gives the error above, namely:
Sorry, something went wrong

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error in SAPBO 9.0 PL08
Hi Experts,
I developed Customized Addon and created.ard file using B1 DE 2.2 version. But when we installed in the client place,Addon is connecting and status is showing "Connected" at the same time we are getting an error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" . Please find the enclosed screen shot for your reference.
In the debug mode, am not getting any error and addon is working perfectly.
I need clarification --->PL08 SDK is required to create .ard file (OR) PL05 SDK is sufficient ??
Before this am getting error "You are not connected to the company" while connecting addon,that is resolved.
Now am facing this problem, Please help me out to resolve this issue.
Thanks & Regards
KMJHi Maik Delly,
I created the addons for SAPB1 8.81/8.82 SQL Server 2008 R2 environment from the same source code which is working fine till now without any error.
But why all of sudden we are getting this error for SAP B1 9.0 PL08 and SQL Server 2012 R2 environment.
In my system i have .net framework 3.5 SP1 and .Net Compact framework 1.0 and 2.0 installed. Addon is connecting and working also without any error for the same environment.
Some Clarification needed
1) SAP B1 9 PL05 SDK sufficient to create .ard file for SAP B1 9 PL08 environment ?
Awaiting for suggestions and advices to resolve this issue.
Thanks & Regards

Object reference not set to an instance of an object on clicking BI Tab
Hi,
I have installed Oracle BI Publisher Desktop 11.1.1.6.0 for 32 bit Office on Windows XP, Microsoft Word 10.
However, after successful installation, when I open word and click on BI Publisher Tab , it throws error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object".
Please help me resolve this setup issue.
Thanks in Advance.
Cheers,
SarikaHi,
This is a general error message. I would ask the following questions to verify the issue:
1. Are these charts inside the table?
2. Does the table display fine? What’s the size of the report and charts?
Please try download the latest cumulative update package for SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 from the following link and see if it address the issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2730301/en-us
You can also capture the screenshots regarding the issue so that I can understand
problem in more details.
Thanks.

Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object - Outlook Add-In - Add-In Express
Hi,
My Add-In has been developed in VS2010 using the Add-In Express pack.
Its a very simple add-in that shows an IT support ticket email detailing PC information. To use it, following installing the add-in, the user must select the tab in outlook and click on the Send IT Support Email button which will generate an Outlook Email
Template with specific information about the PC that I pull using VB.
It works fine in Windows 7 & 8, but throws an 'Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object' exception in Windows XP. Screenshot is shown below:
The code is below

ChrisHi,
Welcome to MSDN forum.
I am afraid that the issue is out of support range of VS General Question forum which mainly discusses
the usage of Visual Studio IDE such as WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System
and Visual Studio Editor.
Because your Add-in is developed using Add-in Express which is third-party, I suggest consulting Add-in Express forum:
http://www.add-in-express.com/forum/index.php for better support.

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object" on loading reports
Hi,
I get "object reference not set to an instance of an object" for some charts in a report.
Software: SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 & SharePoint 2010
I have 2 reports each with multiple graphs & tables. The reports are used in SharePoint integrated mode.
3 months back Report1 gave the error for 4 specific charts. After a few days, the error vanished magically & all charts displayed correctly.
I recently deployed Report2 which also contains charts & tables. After a few days, the 1st chart itself would not display throwing this error. I deleted the Report2 from SharePoint and redeployed it. Now the error is shown for 2 charts in between &
I again see the error for the same 4 charts of Report1.
Since deleting and redeploying the Report2, moved the error to a different chart, it does not look like a problem with the chart itself. Please suggest on what I can do further.Hi,
This is a general error message. I would ask the following questions to verify the issue:
1. Are these charts inside the table?
2. Does the table display fine? What’s the size of the report and charts?

You can filter ADM templates to show configured ones only, and you can
use the "show all settings" node. This will speed the work up - a little
bit at least :)

"Object reference not set to an instance of an object" on stored proc.
So, I use VS 2005 with Oracle 11 rel. 11.1.06.0.
I installed ODP for .net (ODAC 11.10621).
but, when I call some stored proc wich was working previously, when calling stored proc:
oProcAppendWebFolder2.Parameters("p_siteid").Value = vSiteID
oProcAppendWebFolder2.Parameters("p_webfoldername").Value = vWebFolderName
oProcAppendWebFolder2.Parameters("p_includestartpage").Value = IIf(vIncludeStartPage, "Y", "N")
oProcAppendWebFolder2.ExecuteNonQuery()
I often got message:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object. (I got this message when calling ExecuteNonQuery)
proc is simple:
FUNCTION AppendWebFolder(p_SiteID IN NUMBER, p_WebFolderName IN VARCHAR2, p_includeStartPage IN char) RETURN NUMBER AS
v_errcode PLS_INTEGER :=0;
v_retval PLS_INTEGER :=0;
BEGIN
UPDATE DBSEQUENCES SET VALUE=NVL(VALUE,0)+1
WHERE seqid=4
RETURNING VALUE INTO v_retval;
INSERT INTO WEBFOLDERS(webfolderid, siteid, webfoldername, include_startpage)
VALUES (v_retval, p_siteid, p_webfoldername, p_includestartpage);
RETURN (v_retval);
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
v_errcode := SQLCODE;
g_errm := SUBSTR(SQLERRM,1,LONG_VARCHAR);
Appenderror(g_errm, 0, class_name, 'AppendWebFolder', 'siteid: ' || p_siteid || ' webfoldername: ' || p_webfoldername,0);
RETURN (v_errcode);
END AppendWebFolder;
procedure call declaratiion in .net is:
oProcAppendWebFolder2 = New OracleCommand("appendwebfolder", oConn)
oProcAppendWebFolder2.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
oProcAppendWebFolder2.Parameters.Add("retval", OracleDbType.Int32, ParameterDirection.ReturnValue)
oProcAppendWebFolder2.Parameters.Add("p_siteid", OracleDbType.Int32, ParameterDirection.Input)
oProcAppendWebFolder2.Parameters.Add("p_webfoldername", OracleDbType.Varchar2, ParameterDirection.Input)
oProcAppendWebFolder2.Parameters.Add("p_includestartpage", OracleDbType.Char, 1, "", ParameterDirection.Input)
oProcAppendWebFolder2.Prepare()
note that such error was not appearing when I used oracle XE
Edited by: user465054 on Dec 17, 2008 9:47 AMIf it is a web application, I would suggest using HTTP sessions to store the ReportDocument object.
See this KB for reference code on how to use session.

If that does not resolve the issue, provide below info.
- Version of CR with patch level.
- Version of VS
- Win or web app?
- What happens when you refresh the report in viewer using refresh button?

Hello, I have this issue and Ihave wasted atleast 2 days with this one. I have tried all possible solutions -
1. Turn Off Real time McAffee scanning -- I do not have real time scanning ON
2. Delete Bin folder and start all over by adding references -- Did not work
3. delete .compiles or refresh filesdelete temp files from asp.net temp files folder -- no .Compiled file. Deleted refresh files but no use
4. change temp file for appliation in compilation tag of web config -- No use
My application framework is .NET 4.5 and VSD 2012. I have tried to compile from C:\WINDOWS\Mi
crosoft.NET\Framework folder as well as C:\WINDOWS\Mi
crosoft.NET\Framework64 folder. Both gave same error.
I need urgent assistance plz.

Press any key to continue . . .I know these warning are not related to my issue that is the reason i am not able to understand what is wrong with it. Its a huge application and compiliing takes atleast 6-7 hrs and after that I get error in "copyPrecompiledFiles" method.
I have circular reference issue in application but when I build application in specific sequece, it goes away so after builing application with 0 errors, i execute command to precompile
rmdir C:\Precompiled /s /q
mkdir C:\Precompiled
"C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_compiler.exe" -u -fixedNames -p "C:\ApplicationPath" -v / "C:\Precompiled" -errorstack

Hi, a user has a MBA 13" and wants a monitor. My question is, should I buy one monitor with the optimal resolution of 1440x900 to match the MBA? Or a monitor with 1920x1080 will work too? I'm afraid that if I choose the 1920x1080 optimal resolution L
