SQL 2012 Reporting Services hang

Hello,
we are using SQL 2012 Reporting Services with Dynamics CRM Reports. Since a few wekkes every other day it looks like my Reproitng services do fail. CRM Reports do not work and  If I try to browse https://sql2012.mobilex.intra/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx
I get the login prompt but than it only shows "Could not find file 'C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Local\Temp\vsuzsax3.dll'." while the dll is always a different one. It looks like whole path C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Local\Temp
is not available at that moment. If I than restart my SQL Reporting Services service everything starts working again for one or two days...
Any idea where I can start debugging this issue?
kind regards,
Dieter Tontsch, mobileX AG

Hello Vicky, thanks for your reply,
see attached a log-file snippet while it just occurs again. It might be a file permission issue. I will do the changes suggested by you once I am back to the office. It is true that yet the Reporting Service runs under Network Service account. Some questions:
- you suggested to change SQL Service Logon, do you realy mean SQL service itself, or just Reporting services? Should I change all SQL services logon credentials to the same account?
- second you said "Provide full access to the "\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local Settings\Temp" for any account that needs to access the report server.". I am not sure which path is meant with "\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Local
Settings\Temp" since there is no Documents and settings, this is users now. But I guess this is not the place you mean since there is no profile for NetworkService in there.
But one more thin, this temporary file the server complains about like in this case 'C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Local\Temp\uiy82bjf.dll' is not existing at this point. I don't know if this is relevant, but it looks to me like it looks
for a temporary file which is already gone by some reason. So, it is not the problem that the file cannot be accessed, but it is not there or not there any more, I don't know. Fact is that immediately after a Reporting Service restart, with no changes made,
the Services work again for a while.
Dieter

  • Sharepoint 2013 SSRS Interaction with Sql Server 2012 Reporting Services connecting to Sql Server 2008 R2 database

    Hi
    I'm working on upgrading sharepoint 2010 to sharepoint 2013 with sql server 2008 r2. I've ran into some problems but have been able to get a test farm upgraded. However to run SSRS 2013 it seems Sql Server 2012 Reporting Services are required. Upgrading
    to a full sql server 2012 database isn't an option. I know that sql server 2012 reporting services can use sql server 2008 r2 as a catalog and content database so I was wondering could this be a workaround? Importantly would I need a separate machine/virtual
    machine to host sql server 2012 reporting services? or could it live on the sql server 2008 r2 machine? Any pointers appreciated. Thanks Dan

    Remember that SSRS must be deployed on the SharePoint server. Having said that, yes you can install SSRS 2012 SP1 on a server running SQL 2008 R2. And yes, you can use 2008 R2 as your Database Engine server while SSRS 2012 SP1 runs on the SharePoint server.

  • Share Data Source between multiple report projects in Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services

    I have a reports solution in 2012 which contains multiple report projects one each for target deployment folder and we use TFS 2012 for report deployment.
    We have a template project which has a bunch of template reports and all the datasources used in different reports.
    When I develop a report, I cannot "Preview" in TFS but, for deploy this used to work fine util the reports solution was in TFS 2010 & Visual Studio 2008 R2. Since we moved to TFS 2012 & SSRS 2012 not being able to deploy till I create all
    the necessary datasources for each project and now all the developers complaining that they cannot develop reports in TFS itself as they cannot preview (this problem was existing previously) and now not being able to deploy as it errors for each report "Could
    not find specified rds file". I tried messing around with the .rptproj file DataSources tag that did not help either by modifying it like below.
    <DataSources>
    <ProjectItem>
    <Name>DB.rds</Name>
    <FullPath>Template\Data Source\DB.rds</FullPath>
    </ProjectItem>
    </DataSources>
    Is there a way I could share a Data Source between multiple projects in Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services?
    Thanks in advance.............
    Ione

    Hi ione721,
    According to your description, you want to create a shared data source which works for multiple projects. Right?
    In Reporting Services, A shared data source is a set of data source connection properties that can be referenced by multiple reports, models, and data-driven subscriptions that run on a Reporting Services report server. It must be within one project.
    We can't specify one data source working for multple projects. In this scenario, we suggest you put those reports into one project. Otherwise you can only create one data source for each project.
    If you have any question, please feel free to ask.
    Best Regards,
    Simon Hou

  • Problem with SQL Server Reporting Services 2012 SP1 (SSRS) and SharePoint 2013 in a Multi-tenanted environment

    Hi All,
    I'm working on what appears to be a permissions issue with SSRS in a multi-tenented SharePoint 2013 environment.
    As part of my troubleshooting I've ignored the multitenented web application for the time being and stood up a dedicated web application with it's own host header called reporting.<domain>.local. I've created a site collection and added a Doc Library
    called Reporting.. And then the content types, made sure the features are up and everything tests ok. I mention this because it's not that I can't get this working.. I can't get this working in a Web Application configured for multi-tenancy running Host Named
    Site Collections.
    When I try redoing the above on a Tenant site I get the following:
    Sorry, something went wrong The permissions granted to user '<domain>\bprice' are insufficient for performing this operation. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions granted to user '<DOMAIN>\bprice'
    are insufficient for performing this operation.
    Correlation ID: 7f23ef9c-4b6a-7007-7e6f-0b32c731f7ed
    The problem here is that my account is a sysadmin in SQL, a local admin on all servers, a domain admin in AD and finally a Farm Admin in SharePoint. Access denied on my account is crazy. So it's unlikely to be perms in the traditional sence, more likely a denial
    by implication (as though I have not been granted access to something)
    When filtering the ULS Logs for that correlation ID I see the following log entries:
    WcfReceiveRequest: LocalAddress: 'http://homsssrs001. <domain>.local:32843/04560e49d2664b64bc12d9ce7bc9f885/ReportingWebService.svc' Channel: 'System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel' Action: 'http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/reporting/2011/06/01/ReportServer/Management/GetDataSourceContents'

    Call to GetDataSourceContentsAction(https://shared.<domain>.local/sites/bf/Reporting/terst1.rsds).
    The current site is not in the SiteSubscription of the context site. SiteSubscriptionId: for current site = 96a49a95-8256-4585-9627-98206351efe3, for context site =
    Throwing Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: , Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions granted to user '<DOMAIN>\bprice' are insufficient for performing this operation.;
    A quick google on what I consider the most important of the above log errors (#5 mentioning Sitesubscription of the context site) returns:
    http://thesharepointfarm.com/2014/10/reporting-services-feature-pack/
    We aren't using feature packs at the moment. As far as I understand it all features are available to all subscriptions.
    Has anyone seen this issue? Can anyone point in the correct direction? There must be a config that's specific to SSRS and Multi-tenancy that I've overlooked but I genuinely can't get to the bottom of this.
    Kind Regards & Many Thanks
    Brett

  • Report Builder 1.0 for SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2

    We are trying to implement Ad-Hoc Reporting using SSRS 2008 R2.
    First of all, it is very unhelpful that all SSRS books are for either 2008 or 2012, even though SSRS has major changes in 2008 R2 compared to 2008.
    Our instructional materials indicate that we should build Report Models to abstract out our databases into terms familiar to our business users.
    The problem we are having is the difference in functionality between Report Builder 1.0 and Report Builder 3.0. Report Builder 3.0 is touted as having the modern, ribbon based interface that is supposed to make end-users feel more comfortable.  However,
    all the documentation says that end users are supposed to use Report Builder 1.0 for Ad-Hoc Reporting.  And, it seems, that the reports generated by Report Builder 1.0 are not round-trip compatible with all the other reporting tools for SSRS 2008 R2.
    The documentation we have illustrates that Report Builder 1.0 is nice for Ad-Hoc reporting, because is based on connecting directly to Report Models, and the end users can directly drag-and-drop entities and fields into their reports.
    When we try working with Report Builder 3.0, it seems we must first connect to the Report Model as a Data Source and then build a Dataset query on the Report Model.  Only then are some entity attributes available to be dropped into the report.
    If the user decides another source column is needed, they have to go back, edit the query, save the query, and then drag the column from the Dataset to the report.  This does not seem end user friendly at all!
    We are also concerned that if we train our users on the seemingly soon-to-be-obsolete Report Builder 1.0, and get them used to having direct Report Model access, that at some point we will have to move them to the Dataset-interrupted approach of Report Builder
    2+.  Highlighting this perception of impending obsolescence of Report Builder 1.0 is that in our shop that is starting with SSRS 2008 R2, we cannot figure out how to get a copy of Report Builder 1.0 in the first place.
    We just don't see our end users being savvy enough to handle the steps involved with creating Datasets on top of Report Model Data Sources.  So we would have to build the Datasets for them.  But in that case, what point is there in creating any
    Report Models in the first place if DBAs are the ones to make Datasets?
    As such, it is hard to envision a forward-looking SSRS implementation that has the end user ease-of-use Ad-Hoc reporting that the SSRS 2008 documentation presents.
    What is it that Microsoft actually wants/expects SSRS implementers to do?

    Hi Dan,
    Report Builder 1.0
    Simple template-based reports
    Requires report model
    Supports only SQL Server, Oracle, and Analysis Services as data sources
    Supports RDL 2005
    Bundled in SSRS
    Report Builder 2.0 or later
    Full-featured reports as the BIDS Report Designer
    Doesn't require (but supports) report models
    Supports any data source
    Supports RDL 2008
    Available as a separate web download
    In your scenario, you want to use Report Builder 1.0 in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2, I am afraid this cannot achieve. Report Builder 1.0 is available in the box in either SQL 2005 or SQL 2008. It is not available as a separate client apps and is
    only available as a click once application.
    Report Builder 1.0
    Report Builder 3.0
    Thank you for your understanding.

  • [Forum FAQ] How do I add an average line to series group on SQL Server Reporting Services column chart?

    Introduction
    In SQL Server Reporting Service (SSRS), you may need an average value on column chart.
    For the above chart, add an average score line to the chart, you can get which student’s score is larger than average score, and which student’s score is less than average score clearly. This document demonstrates how to add an average line to series groups
    on SSRS column chart.
    Solution
    To achieve this requirement, you can add another values to the chart, change the chart type to line chart. Set the value to average value of the series group and set the line to show only once by using expression. Please refer to the link below to see the
    detail steps.
    Click the chart to display the Chart Data pane.
    Add Score field to the Values area.
    Right-click the new inserted Score1 and select Change Chart Type. And then change chart type to line chart in the Select Chart Type window.
    Change the Category Group name to Subject. Here are the screenshot for you reference.
    Right-click the new inserted Score1 and select Series Properties.
    Click the expression button on the right of Value field textbox, type the expression below:
    =Avg(Fields!Score.Value,"Subject"))
    Click Visibility in the left pane, select “Show or hide based on an expression”, and type in the expression below:
    =IIF(Fields!Name.Value="Rancy",FALSE,TRUE)
    Name in the expression is one of the Students. Then only one line chart is be displayed by using this expression.
    Click Legend in the left pane, type Average_Score to the Custom legend text box.
    The report looks like below:
    Applies to
    Microsoft SQL Server 2005
    Microsoft SQL Server 2008
    Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2
    Microsoft SQL Server 2012

    Thanks,
    Is this a supported scenario, or does it use unsupported features?
    For example, can we call exec [ReportServer].dbo.AddEvent @EventType='TimedSubscription', @EventData='b64ce7ec-d598-45cd-bbc2-ea202e0c129d'
    in a supported way?
    Thanks! Josh

  • [Forum FAQ] How do i use xml stored in database as dataset in SQL Server Reporting Services?

    Introduction
    There is a scenario that users want to create SSRS report, the xml used to retrieve data for the report is stored in table of database. Since the data source is not of XML type, when we create data source for the report, we could not select XML as Data Source
    type. Is there a way that we can create a dataset that is based on data of XML type, and retrieve report data from the dataset?
    Solution
    In this article, I will demonstrate how to use xml stored in database as dataset in SSRS reports.
    Supposing the original xml stored in database is like below:
    <Customers>
    <Customer ID="11">
    <FirstName>Bobby</FirstName>
    <LastName>Moore</LastName>
    </Customer>
    <Customer ID="20">
    <FirstName>Crystal</FirstName>
    <LastName>Hu</LastName>
    </Customer>
    </Customers>
    Now we can create an SSRS report and use the data of xml type as dataset by following steps:
    In database, create a stored procedure to retrieve the data for the report in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) with the following query:
    CREATE PROCEDURE xml_report
    AS
    DECLARE @xmlDoc XML;
    SELECT @xmlDoc = xmlVal FROM xmlTbl WHERE id=1;
    SELECT T.c.value('(@ID)','int') AS ID,
    T.c.value('(FirstName[1])','varchar(99)') AS firstName,
    T.c.value('(LastName[1])','varchar(99)') AS lastName
    FROM
    @xmlDoc.nodes('/Customers/Customer') T(c)
    GO
    P.S. This is an example for a given structured XML, to retrieve node values from different structured XMLs, you can reference here.
    Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) OR SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT). If this is the first time we have opened SQL Server Data Tools, click Business Intelligence
    Settings for the default environment settings.
    On the File menu, point to New, and then click Project.
    In the Project Types list, click Business Intelligence Projects.
    In the Templates list, click Report Server Project.
    In Name, type project name.
    Click OK to create the project.
    In Solution Explorer, right-click Reports, point to Add, and click New Item.
    In the Add New Item dialog box, under Templates, click Report.
    In Name, type report name and then click Add.
    In the Report Data pane, right-click Data Sources and click Add Data Source.
    For an embedded data source, verify that Embedded connection is selected. From the Type drop-down list, select a data source type; for example, Microsoft SQL Server or OLE DB. Type the connection string directly or click Edit to open the Connection Properties
    dialog box and select Server name and database name from the drop down list.
    For a shared data source, verify that Use shared data source reference is selected, then select a data source from the drop down list.
    Right-click DataSets and click Add Dataset, type a name for the dataset or accept the default name, then check Use a dataset embedded in my report. Select the name of an existing Data source from drop down list. Set Query type to StoredProcedure, then select
    xml_report from drop down list.
    In the Toolbox, click Table, and then click on the design surface.
    In the Report Data pane, expand the dataset we created above to display the fields.
    Drag the fields from the dataset to the cells of the table.
    Applies to
    Reporting Services 2008
    Reporting Services 2008 R2
    Reporting Services 2012

    I have near about 30 matrics. so I need a paging. I did every thing as per this post and it really works for me.
    I have total four columns. On one page it should show three and the remaining one will be moved to next page.
    Problem occurs when in my first row i have 3 columns and in next page if I have one columns then it show proper on first page but on second page also it gives me three columns insted of one. the first column data is exactly what I have but in remaining two
    columns it shows some garbage data.
    I have data like below.
    Metric ColumnNo RowNo
    1 1
    1
    2 2
    1
    3 3
    1
    4 1
    2
    so while grouping i have a row parent group on RowNo and Column group on ColumnNo.
    can anyone please advice on this.

  • SQL Server Reporting Services SharePoint Integrated mode - Power View is not supported

    Hi there,
    My environment is the following:
    SharePoint Server 2013
    SQL Server 2012 SP1 Enterprise edition
    I am getting the following message when trying to open BISM item with PowerView icon:
    "The feature: "Power View" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services."
    My problem is that the first time I installed SQL Server Reporting Services SharePoint integrated, I used the SQL Server 2012 Standard edition ISO. But then I learned that Power View is only available with Enterprise and BI editions. So I uninstalled Reporting
    Services Add-in from Control Panel, Reporting Services from the installation media and deleted the three Reporting DBs in the SharePoint DB server.
    Then I used SQL Server 2012 SP1 Enterprise media to install again Reporting Services but not sure why I am still getting the message:
    "The feature: "Power View" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services."
    Anyone can advice me what could be the problem? Maybe I have not complete deleted  the previous SQL Server Reporting Service Share Point integrated mode from the previous installation? What would be the proper way to uninstall Reporting Services?
    Any help will be welcome.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Joss

    Hi  Joss,
    I am in the same situation,
    SQL Server was installed in the standard mode because of that the powerview option is not working.
    I have changed teh edition using maintenance --> upgrade edition. the sql server components like DB engine, SSAS and integration services are now showing in enterprise edition. The reporting services are installed from the application end still showing
    as the reporting services are standard.
    we reinstalled the reporting services but still persists the issue.
    suggest me is there any work around to fix the issue other than reinstalled the whole SQL Server.
    Thanks
    Ramu
