SQL 2014 License mapping with physical cores during/after installation

Hi,
I have ESX Machine with 24 cores. I have to purchase SQL Server 2014 Enterprise physical core based license for 24 cores. so my question is- how SQL 2014 License will mapping/hosted/linked with physical cores during/after installation on ESX machine?
Please help!!

DPM 2012 R2 CU4 protecting SQL 2014 AlwaysOn AG with Failover Cluster vs. DR location

Hello!
We have a problem protecting any Database of SQL 2014 AlwaysOn Availability Group with SQL Failover Cluster Instance when moved to DR location. Everything is protected using DPM 2012 R2 CU4 from Primary location.
FACTS
- all servers are Windows Server 2012 R2
- all servers are Virtual (except Hyper-V hosts obviously:)
- that means virtualization is based on Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V
- all clusters (SQL, Exchange,...) are Guest Clusters on Hyper-V
- SQL 2014
- DPM 2012 R2 CU4
- Primary and DR location
SETUP
SQL
- Primary location: SQL 2014 Guest Cluster with SQL Failover Cluster Instance using Shared VHDX disks
- DR location: SQL 2014 Standalone using VHDX disks
- AlwaysOn Availability Group expands between the primary and DR location.
DPM
- Primary location: DPM 2012 R2 CU4
- DPM 2012 R2 CU4 Agents installed on every possible SQL 2014 Server.
SCENARIO
- DPM is backing up all the SQL Databases normally as long as they exist on any SQL Cluster Node on Primary location.
- As soon as any Database is moved to DR location, that Database is not backed up anymore with the following error.
DPM ERROR
Starting synchronization on SqlServerName\DatabaseName failed:
Error 104: An unexpected error occurred while the job was running.
Error details: The system cannot find the path specified (0x80070003)
Recommended action: Retry the operation.
TROUBLESHOOTING
- Tried to modify SQL Protection Group in DPM Server while Database was active on DR location
> error enumerating volumes or drives D:\, E:\, F:\ (I don't have exact error atm)
> this looks like DPM is not aware that DPM is active on DR location to me
- Checked Technet, blogs and forums; no useful information
QUESTION
Is this expected or by-design behavior? Is this a bug? I am aware there were quite some issues backing up AG's from DPM 2012 SP1 ans SQL 2012 on.
Does anybody have a lab of that kind to try it out?

OK. The issue has been resolved. Issue was related to possible Disks Owners in Failover Cluster Manager Console for SQL Cluster.
In Primary's site SQL Cluster Failover Manager Console / Storage / Disks.
SQL Server(s) from Secondary location need(s) to be unchecked as Possible owner(s) in Advanced Policies for all relevant Volumes.

Surely I am able to connect to the help function when Icontact the website
of AdobeLR5.The problem is as follows,
When I open LR5 on my computer and work with it and try to open the help
function in the software, I don't get it.
When I bought the CD I was naiv enough to believe that I get an independent
working software. I learned in the meantime, that the seller does not allow
to work with, without being connected to them.
I don't believe that I am paranoid, but I like to buy something and use it
without to inform the supplier that I do it. Otherwise I could have bought
the license fpr LR5 via internet.

SQL Anywhere Licenses v9 with v16 and v16 with v9

Have a customer running Sybase SQL Anywhere v9.
They currently have nine networked client licenses.
They need an additional seven.
The current SAP license offering is v16 networked client licenses.
Will v16 networked client licenses work with v9 SQL Anywhere?
Additionally,
The customer will eventually upgrade to SQL Anywhere v16.
Will their current v9 networked client licenses work with SQL Anywhere v16?

I believe that the client needs to buy or upgrade (if this is possible) the available licenses to the last version to be legal... If your question is about using asa 9 client to connect in a v. 16 server, then the answer is, it should work, but only functionality from asa 9 will be available in the client side. Actually, in the past we had an issue, where a 3rd party application was not able to communicate with an sql anywhere server v.11 using v.11 client. But it was working fine to connect using obbc client from asa 8! We do have a cpu license which has no limit on the clients... So we used asa 8 to connect through the 3rd party app, and 11 client to connect through our application.
And the remaining question is if it's legal or not... and I'm not the appropriate person to give an answer...

SQL 2014 Linked Servers with Availability Groups

Good afternoon All. Hope your well. We have SQL 2014 Availability group setup over multiple Subnets.
So basically Instance A(In Primary DC), and Instance B (Secondary Replica, in secondary DC), with AG1 (Availability Group)
When I connect to the instance Directly (using SQL management Studio), and attempt to create a linked Server to another SQL 2014 instance (Instance D, Both use the same Service Account), I am able to successfully connect, and run query on the Linked Server.
However when I connect to the Availability group, I attempt to open the linked server (to Instance D) and receive the following error:
Login Failed for User 'NT Authority\Anonymous Logon'
This above only happens when I connect to the AG1, and not the instances directly. I have given the Service account permissions to Read and Write its own SPNs (Using ADSI Edit). Researching this people have stated to add the Availability Group Name as an
SPN to the Service account;
Setspn -A MSSQLSVC\AG1.mydomain:1433 mydomain\ServiceAccount
However, Im a little unsure at this stage, should the port in the above command reflect what the AG1 endpoint ports are? As I have done that (as well as trying port 1433), and unfortunately the error still happens. Your assistance would be appreciated,

The port in the above command should reflect the port which the availability group listener is listening on, but not the endpoint port.

According to the error message, it always occurs when the Kerberos authentication fails in SQL Server, there are proposals for you troubleshooting the issue.
1. Make sure that your service accounts have “Trust this user for delegation to any service (Kerberos only)” enabled in Active Directory.
2. Make sure that SPN’s are registered successfully for all SQL Server instances.
3. The server must be using TCP/IP or named pipes network connectivity.

Problem with the CMS during the installation of BOE 3.1

Hello,
Windows 2003 Server R2 SP2 32bits
BO XI3.1
Repository on Oracle10
I tried to install the BO3.1. During the installation, I had to give the informations for the CMS. I think I made a mistake: instead of giving the name of the database for the CMS and the Audit base in the place of the server name, I gave the name of the SID. Can you confirm if it was a mistake or not?
Then, during the installation, I had a message saying that "the CMS has failed to start. Press retry or cancel". I pressed cancel thinking the installation would stop but the installation continued. At the end of the installation, a message said that the installation was successful but when I went to the CCM, I didn't find a SIA, I just found the Apache Tomcat and a WinHTTP service running. Th CMS can not be reached, but in the database, the repository tables are present.
What should I do? Should I desinstall the product? After desinstalling, should I call the DBAs to tell them to remove the repository and the audit databases and recreate them? Can you give me some advices?

Well for best results you may want to open a message with support.
I believe you have at least a couple options.
1) complete reinstall (remove BO reg keys and install directory after the uninstall) and reinstall
2) Create a new SIA and attempt to reconfigure the CMS from the CCM

Problem with services of SAP after installation of ABAP on MS SQL server

Just updated CC 2014, Photoshop launches with message to run Photoshop Installer: where is this?

On updating Photoshop CC 2014 and launching I get a dialog, "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder, necessary for sunning Photoshop, are missing. Please run the Photoshop installer and reinstall Photoshop."

This update also wiped all my extensions without warning, not so cool Adobe.

Sometimes uninstalling old versions can take out common files. I uninstalled CS4 only to get errors with CS6. I had to reinstall CS6 to get rid of the errors.
In any case you may want to keep/install CC for a while. The extensions technology has changed and what ran in CC, won't in CC 2014.
If you depend on your legacy extensions, at least you want to hold on to CC until they are updated. And of course if any glitches show up in 2014.2 and future updates, you may want CC as a backup until it's corrected.

"Maps" unable to determine location after installation of "iOS4" software..

With the previous version of ipod touch software, "Maps" had no problem determining my location when at home on my Wi-Fi. Now that I have installed the latest iOS4 software, Maps is completly unable to determine my location at home. Any ideas?

I posted this in another thread on location services and have modified it slightly here. I also believe (based on my own experiences) that wifi signal reception is not as good as it was pre-iOS 4.
I have been having the problem also. I have a possible explanation. Under iOS4 the atenna power seems to be reduced. How do I know? Because I can no longer connect in locations where I could under 3.1.3. I also see fewer networks in the list of detected networks. Furthermore, apple has disabled any apps which acted as wifi scanners. If these apps were still available, it would be easy to see the reduced range under the new OS. I also lose my connection at home more often (e.g. at the far end of the house, away from the router). I think that location services will work if you have more than one network is detected and/or one has to have a registered address. In more densely populated areas you used to have more networks detected, I used to be able to see networks from neighbors in my suburban when at home in my suburban neighborhood. Now, the number of detected networks is more limited. The result is poorer location determination. This is just my theory based on my observation of poorer network detection for my device and from what others have reported. Was this an unannounced way that Apple tried to limit battery drain?
Since Apple does not release details on "secret" changes in their OS, we are limited to guesswork and have virtually no hope of a meaningful response from them.

Itunes closes with an error message after installation

Right basically had the whole updater ruining my ipod problem, finally got a replacement today. Problem is when i spoke to apple tech support, for an 1 hour and 20 minutes the guy was getting me to mess about with my installation of itunes and system restores and using a few tools to get rid of traces of the program (this was before i sent it off etc), so i send it off, get it back, and my itunes will not even open now, i did happen to notice this after finishing following his advice on the phone, but was ignoring until i actually received my replacement. Basically when i start itunes, it comes up with the standard "this program has encountered an error and needs to close". i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times, different versions of itunes, going through my registry manually and deleting entries, but it still has the same error. Anyone any ideas, i really do not want to reinstall windows again thanks in advance.

I don't know if any of this will help, but the first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevents it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
and
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistance the next time you run it and you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.

Moving SCCM 2012 R2 SQL 2014 Database to New Server

Greetings,
I have a SCCM 2012 R2 server with SQL 2014 installed which has been upgraded from SQL 2008 R2. My goal is to separate the SCCM and SQL servers. I am aware that SCCM only supports SQL 2014 if it has been upgraded on new installs, but after installing
SQL 2014 on a new server and importing the database I get an error from the Configuration Manager Setup stating that I must upgrade the SQL server before I can modify the SQL Server configuration.
Does this mean I need to install SQL 2008 or 2012 on the new DB server and from there upgrade to SQL 2014?

Thank you for your reply. We have been having several issues with our current server, and have had performance issues with SQL and SCCM installed on the same server mainly during OSD deployments to several machines at the same time. These servers
wouldn't necessarily need to be separated since we can allocate more resources, but the overall goal is to move our primary site server to a new server running Server 2012 R2 (current server is 2008 R2).
I have tried the site recovery option in the installer where you run the SCCM backup and restore maintenance task and I have renamed the new server to the name of the old server. If I understand correctly, this is the correct method of switching out
a site server machine? I experience the same error as my original post when trying this, but I will try the hotfix Torsten provided as this seems to be the issue I'm having.

"Exception has been thrown by the target on an invocation" during installation of SQL 2014 CTP2

Hi.
I have this error during installation SqlEngineConfigAction_install_confignonrc_Cpu64 (component of SQL 2014 CTP2) on virtual machine (Windows Server 2012 Standart). Logs in Event Viewer are clean. And I have no idea, what can I do with such problem.
Maybe, you know and can help me?
Later in Event Viewer appears such message (maybe this message can help to resolve this problem):

According to your error message, we need to verify if the Antivirus software or other application hinder installing SQL Server 2014
SQL Server 2014 CTP 2. When you install SQL Server 2014 CTP2, there are some notes.
1. You must install .NET Framework 4.0 as well as PowerShell 2.0 .
2. Copy Database Wizard has Limitations. I recommend you take a backup of the database in the instance of SQL Server running on a previous version and restore the database to SQL Server 2014 CTP 2. We can install SQL Server 2014 CTP 2 without
choosing the component about Copy Database Wizard.

How to install sql server 2012 using the license of sql 2014

Hello,
We want to install sql server 2012 on a server because of an application that can not work with sql server 2014.
We have a license for sql server 2014. The license is not visible for sql 2014 in our licenses because it is now included in the installation package. We also can not get a license key for SQL 2012 server now.
How can we get a valid sql server 2012 license key?
