SQL DEV DATA MODELER VERSION CONTROL

Hi Anyone can tell me how to setup an environment to do version controlling with sql DEV data modeler.
Thanks

Hi,
you can use visualSVN server - it has a free edition http://www.visualsvn.com/server/
and getting started is here http://www.visualsvn.com/server/getting-started/

  • Spatial support in SQL Dev Data Modeler

    Hi,
    I am designing some tables using the new SQL Developer Data Modeler, and have added some columns which will store point clouds and TINs (both using the specialized Oracle data types). I have noticed in Data Modeler that the SDO_GEOMETRY data type is available to use as a column type, but the SDO_PC and SDO_TIN data types are not available for use. Or perhaps the column types for these data types are actually something else - perhaps integers (given that several tables may be used to store this specialized data)?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
    there are additional meta data related to spatial tables (and indexes) - Data modeler helps these data to be defined and properly registered in USER_SDO_GEOM_METADATA view. Also specific meta data for spatial indexes can be defined - unfortunately support for spatial indexes in dialogs is broken. Still table related spatial meta data can be defined and generated - see example below. You also can import spatial meta data from database (support is at Oracle 10g level) - you need to check "Spatial Properties" in "Data dictionary Import wizard".
    About SDO_Geometry data type and other types in MDSYS schema - SDO_Geometry comes predefined because of its importance for spatial table definitions - but that definition is incomplete (and still enough to be used). If you need complete definition of SDO_Geometry type or other types in MDSYS schema, you simply can import them from database and can use them in your model.

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler - Version 3.0.0.665 - Open older project fail

    Hi,
    I just downloaded latest version of SQL Developer Data Modeler (3.0.0.665) and there is no "File" -> "Open" menu item. There is only "Save", "Save as", "Compare with" and "Exit".
    I try to drag`n`drop project file to the Data Modeler window. This operation leads to opening project file as XML. I got the same result when I try to open the file with windows context menu "Open with".
    How can I open older Data Modeler project? My previous version was 3.0.0 and project file was created there.
    Maybe I need disable "Start Page'? But how? I cann`t find appropriate param in Tools -> Preferences

    Hi,
    See this thread: Re: 30EA2 problem: Menu items not available

  • Can SQL Dev Data Modeler be used to reverse engineer Windchill PDMLink

    Does anyone know if SQL Developer Data Modeler be used to reverse engineer Windchill PDMLink Oracle database? I need to get the DDL and ERDs from Windchill PDMLink.
    Can SQL Developer Data Modeler be used to reverse engineer object oriented Oracle databases?

    SQL Developer Data Modeler be used to reverse engineer Windchill PDMLink Oracle databaseprobably you mean Windchill PDMLink tables in Oracle database - yes, it's possible to get the structure of tables.
    Can SQL Developer Data Modeler be used to reverse engineer object oriented Oracle databases?It's not clear for me - you can reverse engineer definition of object and collection types, definitions of tables and views including those that use object and collection types in their definition.
    You can try it.

  • SQL Dev Data Modeller:  Auto-generate Surrogate PKs in the Physical Model ?

    How can I have the logical modeller allow the user to design with logical PKs, but then have surrogate primary keys be auto-generated off sequences by the modeller when it comes to create the physical model - as in conventional application design?
    Without this facility, this tool is useless, IMO.
    I want:
    i). sequences to become the physical PKs by default, and that what were the logical PKs in the logical model, to become a unique key in the physical model.
    ii). I want this set by default when generating the physical model....
    iii). ....with an option to turn this off on a entity-by-entity basis (as not all tables will necessarily require such a surrogate PK; so the logical PK may remain the physical PK).

    It is common practice that physical PKs in Oracle tables are defined from sequences (surrogate PKs), and that the logical PK from the entity becomes a unique key in the table.
    This may not always be the case in every application out there, and some people may disagree, but it is nonetheless a needed feature.
    My new Feature Request is therefore:
    I would like to see the following additions to the product.
    1. In the Preferences -> Data Modeler -> Model -> Logical, a flag that by default indicates whether the designer wishes to opt to enable this feature (ie; have all logical PKs converted to unique keys, and replaced by sequence nos. in the physical model). This flags needs to be there since in real life, albeit erroneously IMO, some people will choose not to opt to use this functionality.
    2. On every entity created in the model, there needs to be a flag that allows to override this default option, as not every table will require a surrogate PK to be generated. Being able to (re)set a flag located on the entity properties (perhaps under 'Engineer To'), will accomplish this.
    3. When Forward Engineering to the physical model from the logical, the following should happen.
    ENTITY  1 ---------->TABLE 1
    ---------------------> P * Surrogate PK
    * Attribute 1 -----> U * Column 1
    * Attribute 2 -----> U * Column 2
    o Attribute 3 ----------> Column 3
    Here you can see,
    - Attributes 1 & 2 (the logical PK) of the entity become a unique key in the table (columns 1 & 2),
    - optional Attribute 3 becomes NULLable column 3,
    - and a physical surrogate PK column is added (type unbounded INTEGER, PRIMARY KEY constraint added).
    From entity DEPT as:   (Examples based on SCOTT schema)
    DEPTNO NUMBER(2) NOT NULL <-- Logical primary key on entity
    DNAME VARCHAR2(14)
    LOC VARCHAR2(13)
    CREATE TABLE DEPT
    (PK_DEPT INTEGER, -- New column becomes surrogate physical PK, driven from sequence defined later
    DEPTNO NUMBER(2) NOT NULL, -- Former logical PK becomes a UK
    DNAME VARCHAR2(14),
    LOC VARCHAR2(13))
    ALTER TABLE DEPT
    ADD CONSTRAINT PK_DEPT PRIMARY KEY (PK_DEPT) USING INDEX PCTFREE 0
    ALTER TABLE DEPT
    ADD CONSTRAINT UKLPK_DEPTNO UNIQUE (DEPTNO) USING INDEX PCTFREE 0 -- Former logical PK becomes a UK (constraint name reflects this)
    CREATE SEQUENCE PK_DEPT_SEQ
    CREATE TRIGGER PK_DEPT_SEQ_TRG
    BEFORE INSERT ON DEPT
    FOR EACH ROW
    WHEN (new.PK_DEPT IS NULL)
    BEGIN
    SELECT PK_DEPT_SEQ.NEXTVAL
    INTO :new.PK_DEPT
    FROM DUAL;
    -- Or from 11g onwards, simply,
    :new.PK_DEPT := PK_DEPT_SEQ.NEXTVAL;
    END;
    From entity EMP as:
    EMPNO NUMBER(4) NOT NULL -- Logical primary key on entity
    ENAME VARCHAR2(10)
    JOB VARCHAR2(9)
    MGR NUMBER(4)
    HIREDATE DATE
    SAL NUMBER(7,2)
    COMM NUMBER(7,2)
    DEPTNO NUMBER(2)
    CREATE TABLE EMP
    (PK_EMP INTEGER, -- New column becomes surrogate physical PK, driven from sequence defined later
    FK_DEPT INTEGER, -- New FK to surrogate PK in DEPT table (maybe NOT NULL depending on relationship with parent)
    EMPNO NUMBER(4) NOT NULL, -- Former logical PK becomes a UK
    ENAME VARCHAR2(10),
    JOB VARCHAR2(9),
    MGR NUMBER(4),
    HIREDATE DATE,
    SAL NUMBER(7,2),
    COMM NUMBER(7,2),
    DEPTNO NUMBER(2))
    ALTER TABLE EMP
    ADD CONSTRAINT PK_EMP PRIMARY KEY (PK_EMP) USING INDEX PCTFREE 0
    ALTER TABLE EMP
    ADD CONSTRAINT FK_DEPT FOREIGN KEY (FK_DEPT) REFERENCES DEPT (PK_DEPT)
    ALTER TABLE EMP
    ADD CONSTRAINT UKLPK_EMPNO UNIQUE (EMPNO) USING INDEX PCTFREE 0 -- Former logical PK becomes a UK (constraint name reflects this)
    CREATE SEQUENCE PK_EMP_SEQ
    CREATE TRIGGER PK_EMP_SEQ_TRG
    BEFORE INSERT ON EMP
    FOR EACH ROW
    WHEN (new.PK_EMP IS NULL)
    BEGIN
    SELECT PK_EMP_SEQ.NEXTVAL
    INTO :new.PK_EMP
    FROM DUAL;
    -- Or from 11g onwards, simply,
    :new.PK_EMP := PK_EMP_SEQ.NEXTVAL;
    END;
    [NOTE:   I use PCTFREE 0 to define the index attributes for the primary & unique keys since the assumption is that they will in general not get updated, thereby allowing for the denser packing of entries in the indexes and the (albeit minor) advantages that go with it.
    This is certainly always true of a sequence-driven primary key (as it is by its very nature immutable), but if the unique key is likely to be frequently updated, then this PCTFREE option could be user-configurable on a per table basis (perhaps under Table Properties -> unique Constraints).
    For non-sequence-driven primary keys, this storage option could also appear under Table Properties -> Primary Key.
    I notice no storage options exist in general for objects, so you may like to consider adding this functionality overall].
    Associated Issues :
    - Preferences, 'Naming Standard: Templates' should be updated to allow for the unique key/constraint to be called something different, thus highlighting that it comes from the logical PK. I've used 'UKLPK' in this example.
    - Mark the physical PK as being generated from a sequence; perhaps a flag under Table Properties -> Primary Key.
    - When Forward Engineering, if an entity exists without a logical PK, the forward engineering process should halt with a fatal error.

  • Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler start up error

    Hi All,
    I just downloaded Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (2.0.0.57.0) [Released 1 July 2009] by selecting the option "Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler for Windows (This zip file includes the JRE)"
    After I installed the same and tried to run it by clicking datamodeler.exe, I get the following error message
    "unable to create an instance of the Java virtual machine located at path:..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll"
    On the same machine I can successfuly run the Oracle SQL Develper with no errors. My machine is having Windows XP Professional SP3.
    Any ideas? If there was a problem with Java, than the Oracle SQL Developer should also not run. But as stated it runs with out any error but the Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler gives the above error.
    Regards,
    JAA149

    1 - The above problem has nothing to do with the memmory. I tried on a 400 MB RAM, 900 MB RAM, 1.5 MB RAM & 2 MB RAM with the same arror.
    "unable to create an instance of the Java virtual machine located at path:..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll"
    http://i30.tinypic.com/9vkwf6.jpg
    2 - There are two "datamodeler.exe: files
    One is at D:\datamodeler\datamodeler.exe
    2nd is at D:\datamodeler\bin\datamodeler.exe
    The same error occurs with both the files.
    3 - The Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler version is "Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler (2.0.0.57.0) [Released 1 July 2009]" and the file I downloaded is "Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler for Windows (This zip file includes the JRE) - (57M)"
    If I look in "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\README.txt" I find
    "Java(TM) Platform, Standard Edition Runtime Environment Version 6"
    If I run "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\javacpl.exe" I get
    http://i30.tinypic.com/mt8ocn.jpg
    If I run "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\jureg.exe" I get
    http://i28.tinypic.com/30boiyo.jpg
    If i check at the control panle add/remove program
    http://i30.tinypic.com/1428tba.jpg
    If I go to "http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp" and download "jre-6u16-windows-i586-s.exe" and run it.
    If I go to "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6" I find the same files as in "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre"
    I am able to run Oracle SQL Developer with out any kind of error let alone the above one. But with Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler I get the above mentioned error no matter what I try.
    As the error states "unable to create an instance of the Java virtual machine located at path:..\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll". The file "jvm.dll" is located at two places. One at "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll" and the second at "D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll"
    A similiar problem occurs with JDeveloper with the fllowing solution
    http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=506339&start=0&tstart=0
    Which states the following
    "hello!
    in the problem with JDeveloper i have a solution. The jdk have a file jvm.dll in the path: jdk/jre/bin/client/jvm.dll this is the problem ... now in the path:jdk/jre/bin/client/ojvm has a file with the same name if you copy and paste this file to the another path, now its works fine your Jdeveloper.
    Jdeveloper use two files to jvm.dll to work one in the folder /client and other in /server copy the same file to the two locations for precaution
    for me work fine thanks..."
    I tried to do the same (Copy from client folder to server folder)
    D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll
    COPIED THIS FILE TO
    D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll
    Nada. So I reversed it (copied from server folder to client folder)
    D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\server\jvm.dll
    COPIED THIS FILE TO
    D:\datamodeler\jdk\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll
    Does not work. So I tried another solution stated at the same forum entry
    "Well,
    i solved the problem by this way :
    <SQLDEVELOPER>/jdev/bin/ide.conf
    In this file, change this line :
    AddVMOption -Xmx512M
    by
    AddVMOption -Xmx256M
    Now, the executable is lauching correctly. No more errors with Java Virtual Machine.
    But is it a good thing to solve it like that ?"
    But the ide.conf file is only at "D:\sqldeveloper\ide\bin\ide.conf" which is for the SQL Developer and not the SQl Developer Data Modeler
    Correct me if I am wrong but
    JRE = Java Run Time Envoirment
    JDK = Java Development Kit
    And Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler needs JRE and not JDK. In any case I download JDK
    jdk-6u14-javafx-1_2-windows-i586.exe (121,306 KB) and installed it but no succcess.
    I tried every thing except completely re-install my whole PC.
    Any help will be much appreciated.
    Cordially,
    Jawad

  • How can I find out what is causing this error in SQL Developer Data Modeler

    Friends,
    I am trying to import entities into into SQL Developer Data Modeler from Oracle Designer 10.1.2.3.
    In case of need I perform these steps to perform the import:

    During the import process I see an alert dialog box with the message:
    There are errors in import - check Log file Clicking Ok dismisses the alert box and I see the following summary screen:

    Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

    No this helps a lot. It's not strange. Firstly, in a versioned repository you should see Private Workareas and Shared workareas, so your workarea may be in either of these. It won't be in the Global Shared Workarea, as this only for non-versioned repositories. (I like to open the RON by selecting the full Repository, that way I can see the private and shared worlareas and the configuration and containers all in the same tree.
    Now your workarea is defined by a set of rules, so when you expand the workarea in the RON, and select the object, then that's the workarea and object you'll see in the import dialog in the Data Modeler. So if you check it out and check it back in, and can't see it in the RON, then the rule is not seeing this object. (Did you refresh the workarea in the RON?) If you can't see it in the RON, you can't see it in the Data Modeler. If you're working in a versioned repository, you need to work in the specific work area, i.e V27 and this is what you need to select in the Data Modeler.
    It looks like you are selecting the wrong workarea in the Data Modeler.

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler not drawing foreign key relationships

    I'm having trouble with SQL Developer Data Modeler when I importa a DDL that has foreign keys. I export DDL files from SQL developer and choose various subsets of files. Sometimes Data Modeler will not recognize a foreign key if I include say a dozen files in the DDL file, but it will if I include just a few. Worse, even if the foreign key is recognized, sometimes it is not drawn in the Data Modeler and I have no way to make it be drawn. To be specific, I import a file containing the DDL for just two tables -- I see the foreign key! I import a file containing the DDL for a dozen tables including the two, I don't! Is there something I am not understanding about when Data Modeler will draw foreign keys or is the tool simply quite buggy?
    Much thanks!
    -ttamon

    Hi Philip,
    I believe I have isolated the problem. Apparently if a field is named "FOREIGN..." it interferes with the tool recognizing foreign keys. Try to import a DDL file containing the following text:
    CREATE TABLE "SAMPLE"."SAMPLE_ONE"
    (     "ID" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "VALUE" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR),
         PRIMARY KEY ("ID")
    TABLESPACE "SAMPLE_DATA" ;
    CREATE TABLE "SAMPLE"."SAMPLE_TWO"
    (     "ID" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "FOREIGN_NAME" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR),
         PRIMARY KEY ("ID")
    TABLESPACE "SAMPLE_DATA" ;
    CREATE TABLE "SAMPLE"."SAMPLE_THREE"
    (     "ID" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "VALUE" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) NOT NULL ENABLE,
         "ALT_ID" VARCHAR2(255 CHAR),
         PRIMARY KEY ("ID")
    TABLESPACE "SAMPLE_DATA" ENABLE,
         CONSTRAINT "FK6DF8294F2288190D" FOREIGN KEY ("ALT_ID")
         REFERENCES "SAMPLE"."SAMPLE_ONE" ("ID") ENABLE
    TABLESPACE "SAMPLE_DATA" ;
    You will discover the foreign key is not recognized or drawn! Now, if you swap the location of the third table (put it up first) everything works fine. This is how I discovered the problem, various subsets would work, others would not. To confirm the problem is with the field named "FOREIGN_NAME" use the DDL as specified above but change the first letter in the word "FOREIGN" to something else, and it will recognize the foreign key. Looks like a bug to me (took me about 4 hours to isolate this!). I am using Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler version 2.0.0 Build 584.

  • Connection to SQL Developer Data Modeler Fails

    All,
    I am using Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler version 3.0.0.665 in an Oracle 10g database environment. When I try to import DDLs, I get the following error message:
    NoSuchMethodError:

Any thoughts what causes this connection problem?
    Thank you,
    Seyed

    Hi Philip,
    Thank you so much for the information. Your suggested solution resolved my problem. For some reason when I first installed the Data Modeler, it worked fine and I was able to save the result into PDF files. Then my connection went bad and I posted this question on this forum.
    Again thank you very much,
    Seyed

    Sorry for the log. I looked at the one at the bottom of the window, i didn't know of the one in the directory.
    I purged the log and i tried again with an account with only connect,resource privileges.
    At the bottom of the message you'll find the log.
    The java.exe points refers to the one in the java directory of the data modeler (i downloaded the one with Java included).
    Thanks for the answer

  • Versioning Tab empty in SQL developer data modeler

    Hi I was wondering if anyone could help.
    I have installed Oracle SQL Develeoper Data Modeler 3.0.0.665.
    I am unable to save any projects.
    When I try I get no error and the saved project does not apper where I have selected to save.
    If I go to the versioning tab there is nothing in the drop down list.
    Everything works fine on an XP pc.
    I have installed this on Windows server 2003.
    Thanks in advance
    Patrick

    In the release notes it tells the certification:

    - Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista, Windows 7 including x64)
    - Linux

  • Sql Developer Data Modeler all domains lost after changing to version 3.0

    I have two questions:
    1. Sql Developer Data Modeler - is it still a separate product? Or is it only available as integrated within Sql Developer?
    2. After opening a model created with Data Modeler 2.0 with the new integrated Data Modeler 3.0 I lost all my domain definitions. What can I do to avoid this? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Holger

    Hi Holger,
    Sql Developer Data Modeler - is it still a separate product? Or is it only available as integrated within Sql Developer?Standalone version is here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/datamodeler/overview/index.html
    2. After opening a model created with Data Modeler 2.0 with the new integrated Data Modeler 3.0 I lost all my domain definitions. What can I do to avoid this? Any help would be appreciated.Copy file defaultdomains.xml from DM 2.0 installation to "sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\extensions\oracle.datamodeler\types" directory (if you use version in SQL Developer) or to
    "datamodeler\datamodeler\types" if you use standalone DM 3.0.
    Location of this directory can be set in preferences - it's called system types directory there - it contains: default domains, RDBMS sites, logical types and custom scripts.

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler - MAC Version 2.0.0 Build 570 - Issues

    In no particular order
    - The Help, About box displays a different version information set then the SQL Developer Data Modeler, About SQl Developer Data Modeler.
    - Not able to move any portion of the connection between entities. Thus there is no current way to align the lines as wanted.
    - There is no way to scroll all the way to the right side if you have more then approximately 5 entities horizontally.
    - Open SQl Developer data Modeler, Click on File, Open, select an XML file and a dialog box is displayed.
    - The checkbox needs to be moved to the right as it is partially cut off.
    - the text next to the checkbox is cutoff and only displays "Don't show this dialog agai".
    - Printing Diagrams does not print correctly unless you have the entities displayed such that you can "read" them. If you have diminished the display so that you are not able to see the table or
    field names then the Print Diagrams does not display the entity or field names.
    - File, Recent Designs, does not retain the last or any design having been opened and/or saved.
    - VarChar2 is not a displayed data type for Oracle 10G.
    - There does not appear to be a way to create a set of fields which you would like to have added quickly and easily to selected tables.
    - DDL Editor displays the Macintosh HD. It should display my User Directory
    Thanks,
    Lester

    Sorry to dredge up an old thread.
    I just downloaded data modeler and tried to start, but got an error regarding bad version:

    I have JRE 1.5, but that seems to be the latest per the Software Udpate utility, and when prompted, I set my java directory to /usr, since my java bin was under /usr/bin.
    Let me know if I should start a different thread.
    Thanks.
