SQL Developer as default for .sql extension

I specified SQL Developer as the default application for the .sql file extension. When I double click a .sql file, SQL Developer will start up and even open the file but I always receive a Windows error message stating 'Windows cannot find MyFile.sql. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again.' I can click okay to the message and the file is open and ready to go in SQL Developer. Is this a problem with my set up or with SQL Developer? Thanks.

  • SQL Developer Data Modeler for SQL Server 2008

    I am not able to connect to my SQL Server 2008 from the SQL Developer Data Modeler. Although I do have jtds-1.2.jar on my machine and I can connect the SQL server through the SQL Developer, but still i'm not able to connect through the data modeler. I need to re-engineer and generate data model for some existing schemas.
    Here is what I'm following:-
    File->Data Modeler -> import -> Data Dictionary -> Add new connection -> JDBC ODBC Bridge -> Other Third Party Driver
    now when I'm giving the JDBC URL and the Driver, It throws an error message stating that the driver could not be found.
    Please let me know what I can do to solve this, any help would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    AVA

    I'd try 1st to connect to the db from sqldeveloper (through jtds - no ODBC involved) and see if you can browse your db and issue sql statements in a worksheet. Then export that connection in xml format and import that from the modeler.

  • SQL Developer install problems for Windows 7 Home edition

    Hi there,
    I understand Windows 7 64-bit is not supported for oracle 11gR2 but I installed it anyway.
    This is not my problem.
    I am trying to install SQL Developer and am getting this error when I click on the set up:
    Unable to launch the Java Virtual machine, located at path:
    C:\Program Files(x86)Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin\msvcr71.dll
    When I check the version of my java it is correctly displaying 1.6.0_21 for my 64 bit.
    I read that you need the 32 bit one installed as well and I do. In my Program Files there is a java and a \jdk1.6.0_21 folder. In the bin directory it does not have this .dll:
    msvcr71.dll
    Is that the problem, because i have heard of other people getting sql developer working on their Windows 7 home laptops but they are old posts and I'm not getting any reply.
    I also changed the Environmental variable for the path, such as:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21 /bin
    and none of the 3 above worked for me either.
    Any suggestions are appreciated!

    I unzipped the sql developer download to C:\Windows and it unzipped fine. I went into my folder of sql developer, double clicked the sql developer.exe and it asked for the path for java. I clicked Browse and the default was C:\Program Files(x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin so I chose the java from this folder. It accepted the argument, tried to start sql developer, and came up with the same error, so something is still not right that I am not understanding??

  • Serious UI issues in SQL Developer 4.0 for Mac

    I've encountered some serious UI issues in SQL Developer 4.0 for Mac (4.0.0.13) that impact it up to the point where it becomes unusable.
    If the database and tables are expanded in the "Connections" view, sometimes a node in the tree seems to become sticky. Whenever you scroll the up or down, it will immediately scroll back to make the old selection visible again. If you want to work with an item that's outside the current view (e.g. to collapse the "Tables" node), you can no longer use it. SQL Developer needs to be restarted.
    If the context menu is opened (ctrl click), it appears in the wrong place. It's too far to the right and bottom. If you then move the mouse pointer towards the menu, a rectangle appears and follows the mouse pointer as if you had initiated a drag and drop operation.
    If the "Data" tab of a table is selected and if a cell is clicked to edit the cell value, the text cursor is drawn in the wrong position. It can be off by more than one character and it is often drawn in the middle of a character instead of between two characters. It's hardly possible to edit the cell value as you cannot tell for sure where insertions and deletions will happen. You basically need to copy the value into a separate editor, edit it there and copy it back.
    The scrolling in the "Data" tab of a table is a pain. For no obvious reason, it first scrolls downwards a few rows and then jumps to the top (at least using a Magic Mouse). If all rows have been loaded, this problem seems to disappear. But generally, the scrolling distance is far too short. With a long finger swipe, one would expect to scroll the contents by several pages. However, it only scrolls about half a page. For shorter swipes, it's similar. It sometimes only scrolls by a few pixels.
    Am I the only one to experience these severe problems? Or is the Mac version not as mature as the Windows version yet?

    In terms of diagnosis, perhaps not -- probably very time-consuming to debug.  I did find some unpublished bugs against dual monitor use ...
    Bug 13727841 - FORUM: 64BIT WIN7 SOME DIALOGS SHOW ON DISPLAY 1 WHEN SQLDEV ON DISPLAY 2
    Bug 18504928 - NEW CONSTRAINT UI MENU IN TABLE DIALOG AT WRONG LOCATION ON DUAL MONITOR
    The first turned out to be an issue in the 64-bit Java AWT libraries, not the 32-bit libraries, and specifically for Windows 7 as opposed to, say XP, but this was all quite a bit in the past and was fixed for 4.0.   The second one (on 64-bit Linux), however, just came in yesterday, so you can wait to see if a fix for that also covers your situation or, if you are able, pursue it directly with Oracle Support.

  • Sql 2005 standard edition for sql and AS databases with bpc 7.0 sp3 ?

    hello
    Install guide tells that we must use SQL 2005 Enterprise Edition with BPC except for Reporting Services.
    Customer asks wether he could use SQL 2005 Standard Edition for SQL database and Analysis Services ?
    Thanks.

    Hello Sorin. Two more questions, please:
    1) what do you mean by "Also into Application server you need EE because only in this version you have control flow." ?
    Is "control flow"  "business process flow" new functionality ?
    2) On the other hand, I don't think that BPC admin task is able to handle lite or full optimize without an Enterprise Edition Client.
    But customer asks wether it is possible to install on application server
    - SSIS standard edition for SSIS service
    - SSRS standard edition for Reporting Services
    - SQL client Enterprise Edition to let BPC admin task handle lite and full optimize properly.
    Why all this ? Because Enterprise Edition costs ten times more than Standard Edition and in a multi-server configuration, customer has to buy several SQL Server licenses, one per server running at least one SQL server service. (For example, with SQL,SSIS and OLAP on one server, and SSIS and SSRS running on the application server, customer has to buy two SQL servers licenses).
    Thanks. R.

  • Can SQL Developer be used for Oracle Support "HTML Output" Diag Scripts ?

    Hi All,
    Oracle Support has asked me to run a diagnostic script (OTL_Diag.sql for anyone familar with the script) that produces output in HTML format using SQL*Plus to help troubleshoot an OTL problem we are having. Unfortunately I don't have SQL*Plus installed and my company is not on board with me installing it because of the SQL*NET connection required. Instead I have access to SQL Developer 3.1.0.7. While this works fine for most situations I'm having problems generating the required .html output file that Support needs.
    I've tried runing the OTL_Diag.sql a couple of ways using SQL Developer. First, I opened the file from SQL Developer and using the Run Script functionality (F5) I executed the code that way. This method did give me an opportunity to input the necessary parms and it did create the 'start' of the HTML file on my (Windows) file system, but the script seemed to abort with a java error that indicated some sort of format error (sorry, I'm not a java person so I can't provide any more info, but I'll be glad to get the exact error message if anyone thinks that will help solve my issue).
    My second approach was to open a SQL Window where I typed in @C:\OTL_Diag.sql without quotes. This approach also gave me the opportunity to enter the necessary input parms and it seemed to end normally. It also created the 'start' of the diaganostic output file on my Windows file system, but it 'completed' before any of the 'real' diaganostic output was written to the .html file.
    The Metalink note clearly specifies that the OTL_Diag.sql script is to be run with SQL*Plus 10.2 or above so I don't think I can complain too loudly to Oracle about this...but given that I don't have access to this product (and it is useless for me to again ask to install it) I am hoping someone out there has some ideas or insight as to how I can use SQL Developer to execute this diag script in a manner that will produce the required .html output file.
    Thanks in advance to anyone taking time to read my post !!

    >
    As a result, at this point in time my only available tool to run the OTL_Diag.sql script (provided by Oracle Support) is SQL Developer
    >
    Then you will have to edit the script, break it into pieces, execute each piece manually and save the output to feed into the next piece as required based on what the script is actually doing. Don't post the script or contents as that will likely violate your support agreement.
    As I already mentioned the script may be using syntax and/or commands that are simply not supported by sql*developer. One likely area is the script may be producing intermediate output scripts that are then processed by a later portion of the script. If that is the case then my suggestion to execute the pieces manually should work but you will need to do some trial-and-error to see.
    Even if you appear to be successful you will still have an issue when you communicate the results of your 'test' to Oracle support and they determine you didn't follow their instructions to use the proper tool.
    Sounds like your management is either ignorant or incompetent so I suggest you cover yourself by documentating the instructions from Oracle support and the direct orders you were given to disregard those instructions. No need to discuss that issue further but clearly there are resources available somewhere in the org that has the proper privileges or they wouldn't be able to maintain and support the database. If they want to pay for support they should heed their advice. Nuff said.

  • Problems using Quick Migrate in SQL Developer 1.5 for MySQL to Oracle 10g

    Hi all,
    I am trying to use SQL Developer 1.5 migration tools (Quick Migrate) to perform online capture and build source model to migrate from MySQL 5.x to Oracle 10g on Windows platform. I get these errors and the Quick Migrate process fails:
    oracle.dbtools.metadata.persistence.PersistableObject.doInsert(PersistableObject.java:238)
    I did a search and used the sqldeveloper.cmd script but still fails. Then I created a new database and truncated the repository. I now get the above error plus two new ones listed below:
    oracle.jdbc.driver.DatabaseError.throwSqlException(DatabaseError.java:112)
    Error loading nls:OALL8 is in an inconsistent state
    Error occurred during capture: Protocol violation
    It fails during the capture process for MySQL 5.1 database
    when it begins to capture the tables from MySQL.
    Does anyone know how to resolve these issues when migrating from MySQL to Oracle 10g using Quick Migrate with SQL Developer 1.5 release?

    Hi all,
    I put the following in my sqldeveloper.cmd file:
    SET ORACLE_HOME=%CD%
    What is very confusing is that with SQL Developer 1.5, there are several levels and several SQL Developer executables! I am really not sure which of these to use:
    I created the SQLDeveloper 1.5 directory called SQLDeveloper1_5 on Windows:
    1) cd C:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338
    there exists a sqldeveloper.exe
    2) cd c:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper.exe
    3) cd c:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloer\bin\sqldeveloper.exe
    Which SQLDeveloper 1.5 executable should I be using and where should I place the
    sqldeveloper.cmd file?
    Also I did try to use a different database and schema for the repository with Quick Migrate but it appears a bug exists in SQL Developer 1.5 version that causes errors with Quick Migrate for MySQL to Oracle? Is this correct?
    As an update, I ran the following commands:
    cd to
    c:\sqldeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin
    sqldeveloper.cmd sqldeveloper.exe
    Start sqldeveloper.exe
    Perform standard capture for MySQL using the new mig2 schema as the new repository
    It starts the capture but fails on the errors below:
    Error loading nls:OALL8 is in an inconsistent state
    UPDATE
    ============================
    I tried this again and it worked with the exception of one error message listed below:
    Here are the steps that I followed:
    1. Create a Windows cmd script
    Put the following entries in the script:
    SET ORACLE_HOME=%CD%
    save the command windows script as sqldeveloper.cmd
    Copy this script to the base installation directory for SQLDeveloper
    Example:
    1. cd c:\SQLDeveloper1_5\sqldeveloper-5338\sqldeveloper
    2. Start SQLDeveloper with the command script that you created earlier
    Example:
    Open a Windows shell prompt window and execute the following scripts:
    a) sqldeveloper.cmd sqldeveloper.exe
    b) sqldeveloper.exe
    3) In SQL Developer 1.5
    From the Migrate menu,
    a) Delete current repository and create a new schema in Oracle target database call it mig2.
    b) Then create a new repository in SQL Developer 1.5
    c) Right mouse click on the MySQL 5.x database and choose capture
    It worked with the exception of one error message:
    o.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
    Error while registering Oracle JDBC Diagnosability MBean.
    So it looks like something is screwed up with my JDBC drivers and configuration for MySQL. How do I diagnose the JDBC driver issue for MySQL?
    Thanks!!!
    Ben

  • SQL Developer 1.2 for Win hangs on startup

    Hi.
    I have a problem with starting SQL Developer (1.2, JRE included) on certain Windows XP machines - after closing the start-up extensions preferences dialogue window the interface hangs. A shadow of the dialogue window is still visible and the interface is frozen, with 100% CPU activity and no options available whatsoever. I tried waiting, but after 15 minutes there is no change. Restarting the system doesn't help, and on repeated tries the result is always the same.
    I tried searching around this forum but couldn't find the solution. Can someone please point me in the right direction or perhaps tell me the possible cause?
    Thanks in advance. Cheers!

    I just had the same problem. Only after changing to a Vista administrator user account I could successfully start sql developer.

  • Invalid file - SQL Developer 1.2 for Windows download

    I attempted to download the latest verion(1.2) for Windows with JDK and failed.
    Download process completes downloading the file, but it then complains that its not a valid ZIP file!
    cheers.
    Manod

    It's not a bug. There can be a number of reasons why, when you attempt to download a file, you do not get the full download. One of which is just that you lose the connection and that can depend on where and when you download, another is that there can be fire wall issues on the client site. There are times when the issue is on the Oracle side and this too can be as a result of different things. In this case, there is a specific OTN forum for site issues. I have not seen any such mention of a problem or a downtime or anything else in the past few weeks. All I meant is that if you have a problem with a download, you might try again later. We have had a few thousand SQL Developer downloads in the past few days, so there is no issue on our side.

  • How to force sql developer to prompt for user input for every execution ?

    Hi Folks,
    Environment: Oracle 11g (on Windows 7)
    SQL Developer: *3.1.07*
    I am executing a PL/SQL code off Sql Developer. The code uses substitution variables to prompt user for input. However,I am only prompted for the user input for the very first run of the code. For the subsequent executions, the code simply picks up the user input from the very first run. This behavior persists for all subsequent runs of the code.
    I have executed the same piece of code from SQL*PLUS and the behavior seems normal (i.e. I am prompted for fresh input for every execution)
    How can flush out the old user input so I can be prompted for new user input for every run of the code in sql developer?

    and one more thing i am not getting miragation menu name in menu items.
    please help me.
    thanks and regards

    Hi,
    To connect to non-Oracle databases from SQL*Developer youneed to download the relevant JDBC driver.
    This is detailed in the documentation in the User Guide -
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35137_01/appdev.32/e35117.pdf
    in the section -
    Database: Third Party JDBC Drivers
    The Third Party JDBC Drivers pane specifies drivers to be used for connections to third-party (non-Oracle) databases, such as IBM DB2, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or Sybase Adaptive Server. (You do not need to add a driver for connections to Microsoft Access databases.) To add a driver, click Add Entry and select the path for the driver:
    ■For IBM DB2: the db2jcc.jar and db2jcc_license_cu.jar files, which are available from IBM
    ■For MySQL: a file with a name similar to mysql-connector-java-5.0.4-bin.jar, in a directory under the one into which you unzipped the download for the MySQL driver
    ■For Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase Adaptive Server: jtds-1.2.jar, which is included in the jtds-1.2-dist.zip download
    ■For Teradata: tdgssconfig.jar and terajdbc4.jar, which are included (along with a readme.txt file) in the TeraJDBC__indep_indep.12.00.00.110.zip or TeraJDBC__indep_indep.12.00.00.110.tar download
    To find a specific third-party JDBC driver, see the appropriate website (for example, http://www.mysql.com for the MySQL Connector/J JDBC driver for MySQL, http://jtds.sourceforge.net/ for the jTDS driver for Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase Adaptive Server, or search at http://www.teradata.com/ for the JDBC driver for Teradata). For MySQL, use the MySQL 5.0 driver, not 5.1 or later, with SQL Developer release 1.5.
    You must specify a third-party JDBC driver or install a driver using the Check for Updates feature before you can create a database connection to a third-party database of that associated type. (See the tabs for creating connections to third-party databases in the Create/Edit/Select Database Connection dialog box.)

    Mike

  • Oracle SQL Developer 3.0: PL/SQL debugging of anonymous blocks: ISSUES

    Hello,
    I just downloaded the Oracle SQL Developer 3.0. I have been using the EA releases as they came into existence and was happy to see the released version. So I immediately tried to debug an anonymous block (something I did not try to do in the EA releases), and nothing happened.
    The "Debug" was grayed out and the key-chord "ctrl-shift-F10" did nothing. I found this forum:
    Re: 30EA1: anonymous block debugging?
    and followed Vadim Tropashko's advice. This did nothing for my anon. block but worked fine for the simple example.
    So I started to whittle my anon. block down to find the culprit, here is a repeatable breaking point for me:
    declare
        stmt1 long;
        stmt2 long;
        stmt3 long;
        stmt4 long;
        p_data varchar2( 500 );
        i      varchar2( 10 );
    BEGIN
        STMT1 := 1;
        STMT2 := 1;
        STMT3 := 1;
        STMT4 := 1;
        --the moment this is in the block "Debug" is no longer an option
         select
            SendDocumentResult
           into
            p_data
           from
            XMLTABLE( '/data'
                    PASSING
                    xmltype.createxml( '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><data><SendDocumentResult>test</SendDocumentResult></data>' )
                    COLUMNS SendDocumentResult varchar2( 1000 ) PATH 'SendDocumentResult' ) ;
    end;The moment I have the SELECT INTO ... XMLTABLE() it fails (a normal SELECT INTO works just fine).
    Is this a problem with my environment or is a problem with SQL Developer 3.0.04. Looking over K's comments, it seems the debug worked for 'simple' blocks, so I wonder if this is just out-of-scope...
    My environment:
    Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
    PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production

    NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
    and Oracle SQL Developer
    3.0.04 (Buld Main 04.34 with bundled Java) on a Window's XP box.

    Thanks, I'll survive. Just my luck, the first item I try to anon. debug didn't work! :)
    thanks, hopefully this problem will be few and far between
