Sql developer database difference
I want to save the diff report that I have got comparing two schemas to an excel report.
Can anybody tell me how I can do this?
And also any body know how views and packages are compared between two schemas.
I see the database difference options generates an alter script for views ,functions, packages and procedures.
When I do a textual comparison I don't see any difference.
I am confused about on what parameters the comparison is done.
please help me.
You cannot currently save the diff report, but I like the idea. I encourage you to add this to the Feature Requests at the SQL Developer Exchange. This not only makes sure we don't forget, but also gives other users a chance to add their vote for the feature and provides a forum for you (the user base) to brainstorm on how you prefer it to work.
Currently, Diff creates a hash based on selecting text from all_source. If the hash is different between the source and destination, they are considered different.
THE FOLLOWING IS INTENDED TO OUTLINE OUR GENERAL PRODUCT DIRECTION. IT IS INTENDED FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY, AND MAY NOT BE INCORPORATED INTO ANY CONTRACT. IT IS NOT A COMMITMENT TO DELIVER ANY MATERIAL, CODE, OR FUNCTIONALITY, AND SHOULD NOT BE RELIED UPON IN MAKING PURCHASING DECISION. THE DEVELOPMENT, RELEASE, AND TIMING OF ANY FEATURES OR FUNCTIONALITY DESCRIBED FOR ORACLE'S PRODUCTS REMAINS AT THE SOLE DISCRETION OF ORACLE.
We are planning enhancements to the diff tool, including the area of source comparison and generation. These enhancements will make comparisons more reliable and it will be easier to see the differences between source and destination objects.

SQL Developer - database connect problem
Hello
Just wanted to give SQL Developer a try, downloaded it, unzipped and pointed at Java SDK's java.exe.
It started, I created a TNS connection and successfully passed test. But when I try to connect to database - it errors with following
java.lang.ArithmeticException: / by zero

I googled for this error and found nothing suitable
Other development tools including SQL Plus connect an run fine.
I have 10g client, and I connect to 9.2.0.6 database. My OS is Vista Business SP1, so I though it might be UAC issue and tried running as both standard user and administrator, also allowed java.exe and sqldeveloper.exe through firewall. Nothing helped :(
Any settings and ideas that might help will be appreciated.
Thanks for help

SQL Developer - Database Export - Constraints not included in DDL
I have used the Database Export function available in the Tools menu but have been unsuccessful in getting the referential integrety and check contraints to export. These are the steps I take:
Environment: Windows XP Professional.
SQL Developer 1.5.1
Tools>Database Export
In Source/Destination I select the filename and the database source and check:
Show Schema
Terminator
Pretty Print
Add Force to Views
Include Grants
In Types to Export I check all except Data.
In Specify Objects I select the Schema I want to export.
None of the foreign_key or check constraints are shown but I select all of the objects.
Export Summary

I think maybe it is a jdk problem.
Maybe you can check the jdk version you are using.

SQL Developer database copy corrupts wrapped PL/SQL
SQL Developer 3.0.04.34, database 11.2.0.2.2
Database copy brings over the wrapped pl/sql DDL, but somehow corrupts the code and will not compile.
It must be recreated from source plb file.
expdp / impdp does not have this problem.
This would appear to be a bug.
Wayne Lintonuser4792902 wrote:
Also it looks like the SQL Developer loads all the Data from sources Schema for each table in memory and copies to destination Schema.Yes
Any idea how to over come that...Don't use it, use the database's IMPDP/EXPDP tools for copying large quantities of data or whole schemas or databases.
Also adding the Filter or selection like the Database Export functionality in Database Copy will really be helpful in this kind of situation. The Developer team has any plans?Probably not right now, but you can request this at the SQL Developer Exchange though, so other users can vote and add weight for possible future implementation.

Hello,
I have installed SQL Developer 3.1.07 version on Linux. Previously I was able to create a connection and browse the existing tables, add tables, etc.
Now when I launch SQL Developer, I see that no connections are displayed. Instead there are these three messages indicating an error. Can you please advice on how to resolve this?
Thanks,

Here is a similar thread (Windows 7) marked as answered, and may be applicable to a Linux environment if you are using jdk1.7 rather than jdk1.6:
Lost my connections.
If that does not solve the issue, you might also wish to ...
1. Exit SQL Developer
2. Delete or rename the /home/user/.sqldeveloper/system3.1.07.42 directory
3. Launch SQL Developer, perhaps without choosing to migrate settings from a prior install.
Hope this helps,
Gary

SQL Developer Database Copy truncates DATE columns
Hope someone can help me. I want to copy all object from one schema to another schema in my Database. I have used the "tools - Database Copy" utility and it copies all of the objects and data however when I query the DATE columns in the destination schema the time element has been truncated? Why has this happened?
tab_h contains a column h_date of type DATE
Query
SELECT TO_CHAR(H_DATE, 'MM-DD-YYYY HH24:MI:SS') from tab_h;
returns
02-07-2012 09:54:14
from the source table
yet returns
02-07-2012 00:00:00
from destination schema? This is the case for all DATE columns in the tables.
I noticed this was happening in 3.0.04.34 and I upgraded to 3.1.07.42 and it still happens.
Thank youMaybe there's a problem getting the OS settings right; try to add this to \sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf:
AddVMOption -Duser.region=USIf that works, you can try others closer to you.
Hope that helps,

Sql developer database diff generating incorrect diff scripts
I am wondering whether this may have to do with incorrect preference settings. Note I am NOT diffing 2 schemas that I log in as. That shouldn't matter. I log in as a DBA user.
I am getting alot of alter statements such as
alter table add constraint NOT NULL
This errors out because the table already has a NOT null constraint.
I then checked both databases to make sure I didn't run my diffs in the wrong direction. Both databases have this NOT NULL constraints.
I just checked a create table statement. The table exists in both databases. What am I missing here? Is there some setting in preferences about how database diff works? Can reproduce same issue in 11gR1.. DIFF works fine in 10gR2.
I noticed that 10gR2 allows something like:
DBMS_METADATA.SET_TRANSFORM_PARAM(th,'SEGMENT_ATTRIBUTES',0);
and 11GR2 returns error similar to error SQLNAVIGATOR returns while running diff:

Where are the database profiles saved on 2.1.0.63? I have 1.5.4 on my other machine and would like to transfer over the connections.xml file but can't seem to find it on 2.1.0.63.
Which is a bad choice, according to my experience, with the case having a PC which works something with a network-based profile and sometimes in another environment or totally offline.
My opinion is: you don't this folder "My files" at all. You only want one set of configuration files, regardless of the environment you are working on. -
SQL Developer High Memory Consumption 3.2.20.09.87
Hello,
I have been using SQL developer for quite some time and had initially had problems in the past with high memory consuption when I use this tool.
I have received and applied advice from this forum and while it had helped a little, the majority of the high memory consuption remained an issue.
I finally got more time to dig around and try to specifically isolate where the problem seems to be coming from and here is what I found.
*1)* I have removed the Check for Updates feature
*2)* I have turned off many of the extensions except for DBA Navigator, Real Time SQL Monitoring, SearchBar and Snippet.
*3)* When I start a fresh SQL Developer Session and initiate a Oracle Connection the application consumes roughly 148 meg fo RAM
*4)* When I open my Windows Task Manager and watch the memory allocated to SQL Developer I notice it goes up when I move my mouse over the SQL Developer tool and When I run through menus at roughly 5k a second or so and the memory is never released back to the system.
*5)* When I run a Large SQL to the grid the memory jumps by about 100 meg or so and will continue to do so every time I repeat the SQL until SQL Developer consumes roughly 748 meg of RAM.
*6)* 748 Meg of RAM seems to be the number when SQL Developer (with one Oracle connection) no longer continues to consume more and then not return the memory to the system.
Is there a way to have SQL Developer automatically clear up it's active memory usage without closing it down and restarting it?
Why does SQL Developer continue to consume more and more memory just from moving your mouse over it and/or by navigating menus?

Thank you.
I applied fixed noted in Re: Reduce SQLDeveloper memory footprint with JDK 1.7
For others, to summarize my changes.
product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf
AddVMOption -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions
AddVMOption -XX:+UseG1GC
AddVMOption -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50
AddVMOption -XX:GCPauseIntervalMillis=200
AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=128M
AddVMOption -Xms50M
AddVMOption -Xmx384M
AddVMOption -XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=10
AddVMOption -XX:MaxHeapFreeRatio=10
product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\ide\bin\ide.conf
comment the following two lines as shown below
#AddVMOption -Xmx640M
#AddVMOption -Xms128M
Now SQL Developer runs at roughly 500 meg.
I guess the only thing I have left to ask others reviewing this would be if there is a way to get these memory values down without having much adverse impacts on SQL Developer based on newer JVM switches/functionalities.
The posts that drove these changes are old from a technologoical perspective :) 2010.

SQL Developer 가 9i 이상만 지원하나요?
Oracle SQL Developer 의 최신 버전인
1.0.0.15 를 다운받아서 설치하고,
8i 버전의 DB에 접속하려니깐
아래 메세지가 뜨네요...
Database Versions 9.x and above are supported.

SQL Developer create wrong SQL for creation of Database link
Hi,
I tried to create Database link to another machine through SQL Developer. and I got error message saying "Sql not properly ended" or similar.
I copy-paste the sql to sqlplus shell and I found that the problem came from password part of database link so the generated from SQL Plus is something like:
SQL> CREATE DATABASE LINK mytest CONNECT TO anotherDB IDENTIFIED BY 1234 USING 'OtherServiceName';
but it should be
SQL> CREATE DATABASE LINK mytest CONNECT TO anotherDB IDENTIFIED BY "1234" USING 'OtherServiceName';
so if I type in the password field
"1234" which is ****** /6 chars/ the database link was created correctly.
Could you check and fix this in next release of the SQL Developer?
Otherwise the Application is very good and far ahead from TORA :)Thanks, I didn't notice that for passwords. So it's most definately my problem that the SQL Developer . :)
Thank you for clarification!
Offtopic: I am searching for DB Comparison tool which could compare 2 schemas and return me the differences and the sync script. Do you know any /free if possible/? There is such thing in TOAD but I am on Linux and I prefer to use something else. :)
Thank you in advance -
Using TOAD and SQL Developer to compare db objects in schemas in databases
Hi All,
My primary objective was to compare objects in schemas in two different databases and find out the differences,
Execute DDL's in the database where objects are missing and syn schemas in two different databases.
So I need to compare schemas in databases. Which tool would be helpful and will be user friendly to make a comparison of database objects existing in schemas in two different databases.
I'd like to see if I can get a list of pro and cons between Toad and SQL Developer for comparing schemas pros and cons.
Could you please also help me on navigation in SQL Developer to compare schemas.
Connect to Source
Connect to Target
Compare schemas with different object types
Find out differences
Generate DDL's for the missing objects or for the objects in difference report
Run them in missing instace(Source/Target)
Make sure both are in sync.
Thanks AllHi,
Most dba type tools have this kind of functionality - personally i use plsqldeveloper but this is very similar to most other tools on the market. SQL Developer seems to rely on you needing the change management pack licence which you likely dont have and would be quite a large cost to roll out.
I'd compare plsqldeveloper/toad/sqlnavigator etc and maybe the tools from redgate which look pretty good though i haven't used them.
Regards,
Harry
