SQL Developer User Information Directory, supported UNC path??

Hi. I'm trying to get the SQL Developer installed on an Citrix-server, and to get this working in a proper way, I have to get the SQL Developer User Information Directory to be unique for each user. I've tried to follow the instructions that comes with the Installation Instructions, but it seems to me that it is only statement taht is supported in this issue is to set a path to the local disk, and that a shared nertowk drive or a system variable with a %var_name% statement doesn't work.
How does the Java resolve the system variables name in this program?
Anyone that has any suggestions / solutins for this?
OS is W2003 server with Presentation Server 4.0.

This means that I really cannot use a "dynamic variable", but a "static variable" e.g. a path-name, not an UNC path? Or do I get it wrong here?
I have allready a variable that is defined to get the users "homeshare", but SQL_Developer doesn't seem to know what to do with this variable other than putting in it the "C:\ProgramFiles\SQLDeveloper\.. path...

  • How to delete saved passwords in SQL Developer User Profiles

    Hi
Can anyone advise on how to delete (or flush-out) saved passwords in SQL developer connections? I have a serious security concern about saved passwords at user level and need a quick method to remove them from the backend without actual user's intervention.
An early response is highly appreciated.
    Thanks
    UJ

I have a serious security concern about saved passwords at user levelIf you could share more about your concerns, it might help us address or alleviate said concerns. Basically if your user's desktops are secure, then so are the passwords.
To delete them w/o user intervention you would need to delete their connections by removing the file(s) from their installs. To prevent the problem from happening again, you'd need to put down a new sqldeveloper.conf file in their bin directory that would keep them from saving passwords - example here

  • SQL Developer user defined reports (appropriate utilization)

I have used SQL developer on a limited basis but I have never created a user defined report. Can someone compare and contrast the
types of user defined reports that can be created via SQL developer versus the types of user defined reports that can be created via
a tool such as Crystal Reports or similar tool.

    Hi user7753875 -
I agree with reidelme that it won't match the capabilities for fancy organisation/output of tools like Crystal Reports, but you can do interrelated parent/multiple child reports.
Check out the Reports tab on the SQL Developer Exchange for some examples of what other users have done with this.

Turns out no one has used that in a long time. You will have to do some interpretive cut/past from xml given by web site & report editor in SQL Developer. Here is the "Who" report (master+2 child reports) from the exchange in a format you can use the import function from "User Defined Reports" on.

  • Need help from SQL Developer users

I’d like to run Decision Tree models in SQL Developer for monthly predications after running in ODM manually.
I created PL/SQL Packages under Tools from ODM, and compiled them in SQL Developer successfully. According to Oracle documents, I should be able to run the same DT models (using create or replace PACKAGE BODY "DATAMININGACTIVITY1" .......). However, I am unable to run the entire “Package Body” or any part of it. One of the error messages shows "The select program is in an invalid state for running". I also tried to use "Call" to call functions to run my SQL Package, but that didn't work either. So far, the only SQL works for me is to create a view from a table.
Please share how you use SQL to run models. Thanks, DC

In PL/SQL Block you will see something like below.
In the most simple case you need to supply to arguments ( see bold )
    CASE_TABLE := *'YOUR_TABLE_NAME_FOR_MODEL_BUILD'*;
    MODEL_NAME := *'MODEL_NAME_FOR_YOUR_NEW_MODEL';*
That would be enough to build a model.
    Thanks,
    Jim

  • SQL Developer Data Modeling - Plotter Support

Is printing to a plotter fully functional yet? I have trouble getting the page setup to configure correctly for our plotter.

tried everything I could think of -
default printer before starting the app - default printer properties before starting the app - adjusted the plotter properties via the plotter menu before starting the app - adjusted the page setup properties via SQL Modeler menu - resized the model to show it fits on one page but it still prints to two pages.
we have a HP Designjet 800 42" with a roll as the source, I set the default to ANSI F with small margins but it only prints on two-thirds of the paper and goes to a second page. Tried both portrait and landscape orientation.
I was hoping that I would be able to print with landscape orientation and get everything to print in a continuous fashion. the import kind of stretches the objects across lengthwise.
so in sumation the page preview and the printed result are not always equal.
Hope this information helps - let me know if more feedback is needed?

  • J2SE path for SQL Developer

I have downloaded and installed SQL Developer 3.0 (JDK not included) for Linux as per Oracle's download page. The page advises that JDK 1.6.0_11 or greater must be installed.
    $ java -version responds:
    java version "1.6.0_20"
    OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.9.9) (fedora-54.1.9.9.fc14-x86_64)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 19.0-b09, mixed mode)
Do I already have suitable JDK installed? And if so, how do I determine its full path?
When I run script /opt/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin/sqldevqloper for the first time, it prompts for the full path of a J2SE installation. Am I being asked for a path to my JDK installation? I don't know what to specify for the path, and the SQL Developer user guide is silent on how to identify this path. Or do I have to install something else before I can get SQL Developer to work?
My background is Oracle DBA, not Java, so I find all this JDK/JRE/J2SE stuff very confusing. Can any one assist with specific instructions on what I need to do to get this product working?
    TIA,
    Jon

    Thanks, Jim.
I downloaded the JDK from Oracle and installed it. I now have /usr/java/jdk1.7.0. At SQL Dev first time startup, I specified that path as the path to the J2SE installation, and SQL Dev started with a popup message:
"You are attempting to run with Java 1.7.0
Running this product is supported with a minimum Java
version of 1.6.0_04 and a maximum version less than 1.7
This product will not be supported, and may not run
correctly if you proceed. Continue anyway?"
Click "Yes", and SQL Developer 3.0.04.34 starts.
Great! Oracle supplies a JDK which does not support an Oracle product?
Anyway, its working. Many thanks for your assistance.
    Jon

  • Using UNC Path With Execute Process Task

I have an Execute Process task in which the process can either delete, get or put files to an SFTP site. The executeable takes arguments in the following format:
"host" "user" "password" "put" "full local path/filename" "full remote path/filename"
I have the task configured as follows:
    RequireFullFileName: True
    Executeable: \\server\groups\Development\ETLFiles\ETL_Utilities\ocsshhelper\ocsshhelper.exe
Arguments: sftp user password \\server\groups\Developmement\ETLFiles\ETL_Data_Files\CT_FS_Export_20081113.csv stateExport\export
    WorkingDirectory: \\server\groups\Development\ETLFiles\ETL_Utilities\ocsshhelper
    WindowStyle: Hidden
Arguments, Executeable and WorkingDirectory have been configured as Expressions. When I execute the package in BIDS from my Windows  XP SP3 machine, The task fails with the following error:
[Execute Process Task] Error: In Executing "\\server\groups\Development\ETLFiles\ETL_Utilities\ocSSHHelper\ocsshhelper.exe" "sftp user password put \\server\groups\Development\ETLFiles\ETL_Data_Files\CT_FS_Export_20081113.csv stateExport\export" at "\\server\groups\Development\ETLFiles\ETL_Utilities\ocSSHHelper", The process exit code was "-532459699" while the expected was "0".
My domain account has 'effective' full control rights to the location of ocsshhelper.exe.
It could be that the executable does not support UNC paths, and I'm checking that. I have another package that uses this same application, but uses the physical path, and there are no problems. Does the Execute Process task have issues with UNC paths?
    Thank you for your help
    cdun2

Actually it doesn't work properly in SQL Server 2008 R2.  I have a similar EP task.  If I set the working directory to \\server\share\subdir the task fails. However, if I map a drive latter to the \\server\share and set working directory to <drive>:\subdir
    it works

Further to the above post, I thought I'd simplify my Apex Listener install just to see if I can connect to it via SQL Developer
So downloaded the latest version 2.0.8 and decided to configure and run the Listener on my pc whilst still connecting to the same database.
Operating system : Window 7 Pro 64 bit

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b17)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)
Went through the configuration as above, once started I tried again to access the listener via SQL Developer. This time I received this output from the listener:

  • SQL Developer 4.0.0.13 and Oracle Cloud DB. Cart Access Issue (Unable to deploy in cloud).

    Hello,
I asked for a trial account on 04/02 (this year) of the Oracle Cloud. I've been able to create a Cloud Connection in SQL Developer (I'm able to login with my oracle email with the "Service Instance URL"). I am able to see the 11 example tables (DEPT, EMP, and 9 DEMO_X tables).
    My data:
    SQL Developer 4.0.0.13
DataCenter: US Commercial 2 (US Commercial - Chicago). I'm settled in México, at this moment I don't remember to have selected some DataCenter, but I got that one.
Domain SFTP Host & Port: sftp.us2.cloud.oracle.com:22
Domain SFTP User Name: USdddddd (changed here for example reasons)
Service SFTP Host & Port: sftp.us2.cloud.oracle.com:22
Service SFTP User Name: USssssss (changed here for example reasons)
My problem. I cannot deploy on the cloud (via the Cart tool on SQL Developer).
In chat support, I was told to check this site (1) Data Loading and the Oracle Database Cloud Service. It seems the steps are the same of this site (2) that I was following before Creating and Deploying JSF/JPA Applications to Oracle Cloud.
My scenario is not according the tutorial. According to (1), the tutorial highlights the use of the user detailed as "Service SFTP User Name" (USssssss). The site says that if I click on that user, I should be able to reset its password on SFTP users. BUT, this user (USssssss, Service SFTP User Name) is NOT shown as it is explained, the user that is shown there is the one under "Domain SFTP information" (USdddddd, that is, the user that I should NOT use, according to that webpage).
My user Service SFTP User is not shown in Security-SFTP Users. When I click the user name (USssssss), the site takes you to the Security tab, and SFTP Users sub tab. I notice that my Service SFTP User Name (USssssss) appears in Security tab, but it appears under "Users" sub tab, NOT on "SFTP Users" sub tab. Also, if I try to reset the Service SFTP User password (in Users sub tab), the site says "Oracle Cloud will send an email with a temporary password to USssssss USssssss." It does not ask me to write the new password (SFTP Users sub tab works fine, asking me a password for USdddddd).
Anyway, in SQL Developer, I made several tests in the Cart, testing either the Service and also the Domain users, port 22 and 2222. None of them worked. The message I get is:
Unable to connect to sftp server with provided details.
I've also tried to access the sftp url with Putty, PSFTP, and Filezilla. From those three apps, the sftp url gives me timeout (either on port 22, or 2222). But if ping that url, I got a response back.
So I'm not sure where is the problem. Is it the url? Is it the port? Is it the Service SFTP User? All of them?
    Any comment, is very welcome.
P.S. It will be nice to have a "posted date" for each tutorial and perhaps identify the Cloud version that is being explained (the Oracle cloud is growing fast, perhaps the tutorials will be deprecated soon).

    Hi Gustavo,
It appears your Service SFTP user was not created correctly. Please contact support and mention the fact that your Service SFTP user appears on Security/Users tab and not on Security/SFTP Users tab.

  • SQL Developer High Memory Consumption 3.2.20.09.87

    Hello,
I have been using SQL developer for quite some time and had initially had problems in the past with high memory consuption when I use this tool.
I have received and applied advice from this forum and while it had helped a little, the majority of the high memory consuption remained an issue.
I finally got more time to dig around and try to specifically isolate where the problem seems to be coming from and here is what I found.
*1)* I have removed the Check for Updates feature
*2)* I have turned off many of the extensions except for DBA Navigator, Real Time SQL Monitoring, SearchBar and Snippet.
*3)* When I start a fresh SQL Developer Session and initiate a Oracle Connection the application consumes roughly 148 meg fo RAM
*4)* When I open my Windows Task Manager and watch the memory allocated to SQL Developer I notice it goes up when I move my mouse over the SQL Developer tool and When I run through menus at roughly 5k a second or so and the memory is never released back to the system.
*5)* When I run a Large SQL to the grid the memory jumps by about 100 meg or so and will continue to do so every time I repeat the SQL until SQL Developer consumes roughly 748 meg of RAM.
*6)* 748 Meg of RAM seems to be the number when SQL Developer (with one Oracle connection) no longer continues to consume more and then not return the memory to the system.
Is there a way to have SQL Developer automatically clear up it's active memory usage without closing it down and restarting it?
Why does SQL Developer continue to consume more and more memory just from moving your mouse over it and/or by navigating menus?

    Aces!!! You nailed it Gary...
    Thank you.
I applied fixed noted in Re: Reduce SQLDeveloper memory footprint with JDK 1.7
For others, to summarize my changes.
    product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf
    AddVMOption -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions
    AddVMOption -XX:+UseG1GC
    AddVMOption -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50
    AddVMOption -XX:GCPauseIntervalMillis=200
    AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=128M
    AddVMOption -Xms50M
    AddVMOption -Xmx384M
    AddVMOption -XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=10
    AddVMOption -XX:MaxHeapFreeRatio=10
    product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\ide\bin\ide.conf
comment the following two lines as shown below
    #AddVMOption -Xmx640M
    #AddVMOption -Xms128M
Now SQL Developer runs at roughly 500 meg.
I guess the only thing I have left to ask others reviewing this would be if there is a way to get these memory values down without having much adverse impacts on SQL Developer based on newer JVM switches/functionalities.
The posts that drove these changes are old from a technologoical perspective :) 2010.

  • File Open/Save Boxes of SQL- Developer

I am not aware if these points are already discussed or on features list.
    1) I could not find how to set default directory where SQL Developer will go directly when I am opening new file.
    2. Also as far as I experienced SQL Developer does not remember the last path/directory I have opened file from.
    3. I don't know difference between File Menu -> open and right click in the worksheet and open.
But the files opened via right click does not go to recently used file list in the file menu. Is this expected?
    4. When I export the data to file. there are two points.
         a) Last path is not remembered so I have to go to the path every time.
         b) SQL Developer comes with the name null.csv
The practical problem I face is after I go to whatever path I need I give some file name. But if I don’t give the extension then no extension is there to the file it created. I think most will expect to have automatic extension. I don’t know if I am expecting too much.
    Regards
    Sanjeev

    Hi,
    1. Lots of Windows users who are craving for this, let's hope it gets into v1.1. Perhaps the default script directory (accepted for v1.1) can be used.
    2. They claim it does, however only for the same opened tab. Duh.
    3. Might be intentional, but I agree it should be added.
    4. a) Bummer, isn't it?
    b) I agree. Suppose it's like this because of the multi-platform capability.
If you notice missing features or want to vote on other people's requests, there's the SQL Developer Exchange, at http://sqldeveloper.oracle.com .
    Have fun,
    K.

  • Explain plan results are different in SQL Developer than SQL Plus

    My Environment:
    SQL Developer 1.0.0.15.27
Platform where SQL Developer is running: Windows XP 2002 SP2
    Oracle Database and Client 9.2.0.7
    Optimizer_mode: FIRST_ROWS
I have the following SQL statement:
    SELECT a1.comp_id
    FROM temp_au_company a0, au_company a1
    WHERE :b2 = a0.temp_emp_code
    AND a0.comp_id = a1.comp_id
    AND a0.sls_terr_code != a1.sls_terr_code
    AND a1.last_mdfy_date > :b1
When I run an Explain in SQL Developer I get the following access path (which is the one I really want):
SELECT STATEMENT                          TABLE ACCESS(BY INDEX ROWID) FEDLINK.AU_COMPANY          NESTED LOOPS                                   INDEX(RANGE SCAN)
    FEDLINK.UX2_TEMP_AU_COMPANY
              INDEX(RANGE SCAN) FEDLINK.PX1_COMPANY
However, when I execute the statement with sql_trace turned on and use tkprof to generate the actual access path, the statement executes as follows (which is WAY more expensive):
call count cpu elapsed disk query current rows
    Parse 1 0.00 0.00 0 0 0 0
    Execute 1 0.00 0.00 0 0 0 0
    Fetch 1 3.58 6.68 28136 29232 0 0
    total 3 3.58 6.69 28136 29232 0 0
Misses in library cache during parse: 1
    Optimizer goal: FIRST_ROWS
Parsing user id: 979 (FEDLINK) (recursive depth: 1)
    Rows Row Source Operation
    0 NESTED LOOPS
    0 TABLE ACCESS FULL AU_COMPANY
0 INDEX RANGE SCAN UX2_TEMP_AU_COMPANY (object id 49783)
Notice the FULL access of au_company.
I understand that SQL Developer has nothing to do with why the statement executed the way it did, but why is the Explain in SQL Developer different than the actual execution plan?
Added note....when I run the explain in SQL Plus it is the same as the actual execution. Here is the explain from SQL Plus:
    explain plan for SELECT a1.comp_id
    FROM temp_au_company a0, au_company a1
    WHERE '1' = a0.temp_emp_code
    AND a0.comp_id = a1.comp_id
    AND a0.sls_terr_code != a1.sls_terr_code
    AND a1.last_mdfy_date > '01-MAY-2006';
    PLAN_TABLE_OUTPUT
    | Id | Operation | Name | Rows | Bytes | Cost |
    | 0 | SELECT STATEMENT | | 2 | 76 | 2597 |
    | 1 | NESTED LOOPS | | 2 | 76 | 2597 |
    | 2 | TABLE ACCESS FULL | AU_COMPANY | 2 | 42 | 2595 |
    | 3 | INDEX RANGE SCAN | UX2_TEMP_AU_COMPANY | 1 | 17 | 2
    Thanks,
    Brenda

The explain is different (full scan of au_company in SQL Plus / index access in SQL Developer) even when I use variables in SQL Plus. Here is the output for SQL Plus using variables instead of literals:
    SQL> variable b1 varchar2
    SQL> variable b2 char
SQL> explain plan for SELECT a1.comp_id
    2 FROM temp_au_company a0, au_company a1
    3 WHERE :b2 = a0.temp_emp_code
    4 AND a0.comp_id = a1.comp_id
    5 AND a0.sls_terr_code != a1.sls_terr_code
    6 AND a1.last_mdfy_date > :b1
    7 /
    Explained.
    PLAN_TABLE_OUTPUT
    | Id | Operation | Name | Rows | Bytes | Cost |
    | 0 | SELECT STATEMENT | | 3184 | 118K| 2995 |
    | 1 | HASH JOIN | | 3184 | 118K| 2995 |
    | 2 | INDEX RANGE SCAN | UX2_TEMP_AU_COMPANY | 3187 | 54179 | 3 |
    | 3 | TABLE ACCESS FULL | AU_COMPANY | 24009 | 492K| 2983 |
Any other ideas? They should be the same.

  • Apex Listener 2.0.1 vs Sql Developer Administration 3.2.20.09 bugs

    Apex Listener 2.0.1 / Sql Developer 3.2.20.09 / Apex 4.1.1
    1. I'm using basic connection type with service name. Each time I connect to listener administration it is resetted to SID with default name as orcl.
    2. Test Settings does not work in case hostname is localhost.
Database Settings apex:Cannot connect to APEX_PUBLIC_USER. Исключение ввода/вывода (input/output exception): The Network Adapter could not establish the connection>
At the same time it's working in defaults.xml:
<entry key="db.hostname">localhost</entry>I'm not sure why. Database and Apex Listener are installed on the same mashine. May be this can help:
<Warning> <Server> <x> <> <DynamicListenThread[Default]> <<WLS Kernel>> <> <> <> <BEA-002611> <Hostname "x", maps to multiple IP addresses: 10.110.x.x, 0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1> 3. I can see "Enable RESTful Services" action in (url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35137_01/appdev.32/e35117/intro.htm#autoId110)SQL Developer User's Guide. Still there is no such action in Sql Developer. Thus settings are always uploaded with enabled RESTful Services.
    I see error
The pool named: apex_al does not existeach time I connect to Apex Listener Administration in case of RESTful Services is not configured during configuration of apex.war.
I can't find any restrictions for RESTful Services to be configured. So I think this error is unnecessary.
    4. From sql developer User's Guide
Connect (context menu only): Connects to the Application Express Listener (see Connecting to Application Express Listener Server).Retrieve Settings, Upload Settings, and Launch URL are enabled when you connect to the Application Express Listener.>
administration settings are retrieved and displayed but still Retrieve Settings, Upload Settings, and Launch URL are disabled in context menu after connection.
I need to perform New Administration action to make them enabled.
    Is this expected behavior ?
Is this all bugs or known features ?

I am trying to create a connection to a standalone Apex Listener installation via SQL Developer to manage the listener settings. I start a new connection and after entering the UN/PWD of the Listener Administrator I get the following error:

In the Standalone APEX Listener DOS window I'm getting the following error message:

  • Unable to see the file share content via UNC path

I have run a cmd command to modify the NTFS permissions on a few home directories.
That command has helped me to remove all from the ACL of shared folders; and add domain admins into it.
I am an admin on that Windows server. Now, whenever I try to access any home directory via UNC path; it doesn't displays the files and folders in it. But, if I go to the server and try to open the particular home directory from there...first it gives me
a prompt that I currently do not have access on folder and then gives me an option to click on continue and then I can access the files and folders within the directory.
I am also able to see the files and folders in the directory via UNC path after doing the above steps.
Can somebody help me understand what I did wrong here and how can this be resolved now?

Sorry, am added into local administratir group. But, NTFS permissions shows that I have only "read" and "change" permissions (I have checked this from effective permissions).
The ACL of folder shows only "Domain Admins" have full access and I am not a part of AD group "Domain Admins". I think this is the root cause of the issue.
I am running below mentioned command to give myself full access on the file shares without making any changes to the current ACL of all shared folders. However, it is not working and not even throwing any error message.
    for /f %i in (u:\users.txt) do cacls \\hdfile01\users$\%i /C /G "AMadm":F
users.txt contains 'cn'. Another thing to notice here is that if I just keep one ID in .txt file and then run my command; it is working. But its not running for all users in loop.
    Can somebody please help.

  • Sql Developer 1.5.5 bug with large sequence start values.

We have a small table in our sql server 2005 schema (~700) rows. Its primary key is a bigint. We randomly generate ids for this table (don't ask). We have ids for this table which are larger than 2147483647. (java.lang.Integer.MAX_VALUE). I'm using a Windows 10g instance as the repository:
    SQL> select * from v$version

    BANNER
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Prod

TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
    Capturing this model works fine.
    Converting this model works fine.
When the converted model is "Generated", Sql Developer stops generating the script before the worksheet window is opened with the generated sql. If run from sqldeveloper/bin, this exception is output to the console:

A problem row can be viewed by issuing this query against the repository:
    select * from md_sequences where seq_start > 2147483647;
We have one row returned. The oracle.dbtools.metadata.persistence.MdSequence class uses a java.lang.Integer value to store the start value for the sequence. The value stored in the repository's MD_SEQUENCE table overflows the Integer type.
Updating the SEQ_START column in the MD_SEQUENCE table fixed our problem. (Well, I can now generate the schema. I may have other problems with the sequence being off).
I've written this post to save someone else the day it took me to diagnose this problem with Sql Developer 1.5.5. At the very least Sql Developer should inform the user that it could not generate the script because of the large sequence start value. It basically swallows any error and terminates script generation without any type of feedback.

Update: I was able to recreate the problem!
    1. Create a new table (I used TEST).
    2. Mark first column af primary key.
    3. Save the table.
Notice the name of the primary key index created: (TEST_PK in my case)
    4. Edit the table.
    5. Under constraints change the name of the primary key constraint.
    6. Save the table.
Notice that the index still has its original name.
    7. Edit the table.
    8. Change something.
    9. Attempt to save changes (Fails).
    Conclusion:
Either SQL Developer should be aware of indexes with different name than a constraint,
or when SQL Developer changes the name of a constraint with an index, both the constraint and the index should be renamed.
