SQL Express unable to start by disabling SSL
These are the steps that I took:
1. Enable Force Encryption "Yes" , and chose SSL Cert, unable to start.
2. Enable Force Encryption "No", still unable to start
3. Deleted the thumbprint value of the certitificate from "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.X\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib\".
and restart the SQL service. Still unable to start.
Error from SQL Logs are as follows:

currently I have deleted the thumbprint at the registry.
So what should I do?
I have already done this:
So if you dont want to use the above certificate, then delete the thumbprint value of the certitificate from "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.X\MSSQLServer\SuperSocketNetLib\".
and restart the SQL service.
I have also restarted the server but get the same message.
So the only thing is to UNINSTALL the SQL SERVER 2008R2 and install it back again??
Hi,
According to your description and error message, we need to verify if the same error occurs when you choose “No” in Force Encryption. If yes, the issue is still about SSL.
I recommend you use process monitor to check if your network service account is being denied access to
your registry key. Since you delete the thumbprint value of the certificate, I recommend you copy the Certificate value from the normal SQL Server instance. Or you reinstall SQL Server Express.
For more information, see:

Yes , I already verified Force Encryption is "No"
I cant seem to find out why it is checking SSL when I have already put Force Encryption "No"
and no SSL certificates selected.
Reinstall should be a last resort.
If I tried this in a production server, all the production data will be gone.

Sql server service wont start after disabling TLS 1.0 and SSL 3.0 on windows
We have been hardening our servers for some time now and recently we disabled SSL 3.0 because of the poodle attack. When I did this on one of our test servers SQL Server failed to start up after the restart.
I have been able to reproduce this on Windows Server 2012 and Windows 7 by disabling TLS 1.0 and SSL 3.0 through the registry. I am using SQL Server 2012 on the server machine. On my windows 7 machine sql server 2012 and sql server 2005 will not start with
those disabled.
These are the event log errors I get:
Application Logs:

Done anyone know have we can keep SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 disabled and get SQLServer server to start?Hi Don,
I already have TLS 1.0 Disabled to prevent the BEAST exploit. So the values I have for:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS
1.0\Server
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS
1.0\Client
Both have enabled set to ("Enabled"=dword:00000000).
If change both of these back to ("Enabled"=dword:00000001)
to enable TLS 1.0, and restart then SQLServer is able to start again. But we are now vulnerable to the BEAST attack once again.
If I keep server enabled and disable the client or vice versa and restart. Then SQLServer starts but I
am unable to connect to it. When I check the Event logs I get the same errors as my original past.
With your last post, do you mean to backup SCHANNEL and delete it so it gets recreated? If that is the case it will probably work because if I re enable SSL 3.0 or TLS 1.0 from here it fix's the issue, but I then I won't have the exploits patched and
we need this for some of our customers.
This is my SCHANNEL Export:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 2.0]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurityProviders\SCHANNEL\Protocols\SSL 2.0\Client]

Unable to start the Universal Connection Pool error
Hi,
I am trying to deploy two instances of one and the same web application on Tomcat 6. I have application test.war, I have copied and renamed it to test2.war and moved both wars in Tomcat' webapps folder. One of those (which Tomcat decides to start first) correctly gets connection from PoolDataSourceFactory.getPoolDataSource() and works fine, but the second throws this exception while trying to get database connection.
Please help,
Thanks

Hello,
I first installed SQL Serrver Express Edition 2008 with Advanced Services (As a part of some client's software)
Now I have isntalled SQL Server Developer Edition 2008, by selecting ALL features and client tools.
Now, with BIDS, I can start SSRS and SSAS Projects, but I can't start SSIS Projects.
I am getting below error message :
To design Integration Services packages in Business Intelligence Development Studio, Integration Services has to be installed by one of these editions of SQL Server 2008: Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation. To install Integration
Services, run SQL Server Setup and select Integration Services.
Please let me know how do I resolve this issue "Without un-installing Express Edition installed earlier on my machine"
Please help !
Thanks
DPThis is a common pitfall with the SQL Express editions. It cannot co-exist. You
need to un-install the "Express".
What works is having a VM with Express Tools if I you (strangely) need them.

SQL Express 2008 R2 will not start on Windows 7 Home
Ok, This used to work, and then over night my system rebooted and now I cannot start SQL Express 2008 R2 after I have unistalled, and re-installed. Cleared out the folders and the certificates, changed the Named Pipes configuration and all to
no avail. Here is my log file.

Also, the link you provided is to Windows Vista, not Windows 7 Home Premium. However, I did look at the registry setting they said to look at in the link.
Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
Under the ProfileList subkey, delete the subkey that is named <var>SID</var>.bak.
Note <var>SID</var> is a placeholder for the security identifier (SID) of the user account that is experiencing the problem. The <var>SID</var>.bak subkey should contain a ProfileImagePath registry entry that points to the original profile
folder of the user account that is experiencing the problem.
Exit Registry Editor.
Looking into my registry for my ProfilesList as mentioned. I have these items.
S-1-5-19 Folder with Default (Value not set), Flags (REG_DWORD) 0x0000000, ProfileImagePath (REG_EXPANDS_SZ) C:Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService, State (REG_DWORD) 0x0000000
S-1-5-20 Folder with Default (Value not set), Flags (REG_DWORD) 0x0000000, ProfileImagePath (REG_EXPANDS_SZ) C:Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService, State (REG_DWORD) 0x0000000
Then I have an item for each of my three accounts, Administrator, Martin Dahl, and mdahl, All admin Accounts, which has no sid.bak, but a Sid, so not sure how this link helps me either. Still looking for assistance. Still not starting. -
"Disable Check for SQL Express" against SQL Server Agent
Good afternoon,
Seeing as it has been a know issue for many years now[1],
is there a reason why Microsoft has yet to include a “Disable Check for SQL Express” override (similar to the
Automatic Configuration (& other) monitors) for each of the following objects included in the
Microsoft SQL Server Management Pack?
SQL Server Agent Windows Service (Monitor)
Discover SQL Server Agent for a DB Engine (Discovery)
This would prevent me from have to continually create overrides
disabling the monitor|discovery each time a new instance of SQL Express is installed in our Management Group.
Thanks,
Larry

Unable to start SQL Server Browser service in Sql server 2005
we are unable to start the SQL browser service on one of our machine with below error.
I believe this to be the reason, why we could not connect to the instance with below error
I tried troubleshooting as mentioned here, by changing
value in registry from 1 to 0, but still no luck.
SQLservices are also running.
Please help on how to resolve this!Hello,
You say that SQL Server Browser Service belongs to a SQL Server 2005, but based on the name of the instance is a SQL Server
2012 instance.
Do you have any issues installing/uninstalling SQL Server 2005 or 2012? One of them 32-bit and the other 64-bit?
Hope this helps.

SQL Browser not started in SQL Express 2012
I just installed SQL Express 2012 on a Windows Server 2008. I downloaded the advanced 64bit installation file and selected all the options except SSRS. Everything seemed to install successfully including SSMS. I was able to connect to the instance locally
and create a database. However, when I tries to connect from a client PC, I got the "not configured for remote connections" error. I went into Configuration Manager on the server and saw that that SQL Browser was stopped. But the Start Service option
was grayed out. How can I enable SQL Browser?

Unable to start T-SQL debugging
Hi,
I'm trying to use T-SQL Debugging from SSMS2008 against a SQL Server 2008 server. When I do so I receive the following error:
Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
Unable to start T-SQL Debugging. Could not attach to SQL Server process on 'myserver'. Click Help for more information.
OK Help
Extra info:
A search turned up the following article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms241738(VS.80).aspx which suggests that I need to be a member of the sysadmin role. However, I AM a member of that role and besides, that article applies to SQL2005 only.
The only other issue I can see is that the error reports an inability to connect to 'myserver' whereas the instance in question is not actually the default instance, It is actually 'myserver\myinstance'. That may or may not be significant.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to why I am not able to debug from SSMS2008 against a SQL2008 instance?
Thanks
Jamie
http://sqlblog.com/blogs/jamie_thomson/ | http://jamiethomson.spaces.live.com/ | @jamietIf you are trying to debug a remote SQL Server instance (Your database engine is NOT running on the same computer as Management Studio 2008)
Please make sure (from BOL) http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc646024.aspx
Configuring the Transact-SQL Debugger
There are no configuration requirements to run the Transact-SQL debugger when SQL Server Management Studio is running on the same computer as the instance of the SQL Server Database Engine. However, to run the Transact-SQL debugger when SQL Server Management Studio is running on a different computer from the instance of the Database Engine, you must enable program and port exceptions by using the Windows Firewall Control Panel application on both computers.
On the computer that is running the instance of the Database Engine, in Windows Firewall, specify the following information:
Add TCP port 135 to the exceptions list.
Add the program sqlservr.exe to the exceptions list. By default, sqlservr.exe is installed in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.InstanceName\MSSQL\Binn, where InstanceName is MSSQLSERVER for the default instance, and the instance name for any named instance.
If the domain policy requires network communications to be done through IPsec, you must also add UDP port 4500 and UDP port 500 to the exception list.
On the computer that is running SQL Server Management Studio, in Windows Firewall, specify the following information:
Add TCP port 135 to the exceptions list.
Add program ssms.exe (SQL Server Management Studio) to the exceptions list. By default, ssms.exe is installed in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE.

Hello,
This forum is to discuss and ask questions about the Debugging tools of
Visual Studio, Visual Studio Profiler tools, and Visual Studio Ultimate IntelliTrace, it seems like that your issue is out of the support range which is regarding
Using the Transact-SQL Debugger, if that is the case, I would recommend you post this issue in the following forum like this thread

Unable to install SQL Express 2005 on W7 Pro machine
I am trying load a Toshiba Telecom application on a W7 Pro 64bit machine. The application has SQL Express 2005 embedded and will not install completely. I downloaded the SQL Express 2005 SP3 from MS and it comes up during the installation and states
that the PC does not have the proper hardware requirements and that it cannot install because of the wrong ASP file. The machine is an i7 with 16GB ram and 1.7TB hard drive. Can anyone help? I have the same application loaded on other W7 Pro machines with
no problem.Hi Patriot76,
According to your description, you fail to install SQL Server 2005 express SP3. Please help to post the complete setup error log here for analysis. By default, SQL Server setup log file locates in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
In addition, please confirm if your SQL Server is installed successfully.
For the hardware requirements, please make sure that your disk has at least 600 MB of available hard disk space. To install SQL Server 2005 express SP3 successfully, please pay attention to the points below.
1.Make sure that you have administrative rights on the computer.
2.Make sure that Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or later is installed. If you do not have the .NET Framework 2.0 installed, you must download and install it before you install SP3.
3.Make sure that you install 64-bit SQLEXPR.EXE based on your 64-bit operation system.
4.Make sure that you stop all applications and services that make connections before you install SP3.

I tried starting the server from the console as well as from command prompt. Here I am giving the command below.
nohup ./startManagedWebLogic.sh bi_server1 t3://machineIP:portNo > bis1_startup.log &
But each time I got the same exception.

Unable to start default LocalDB instance on Windows 8 x86
Cannot start the default LocalDB instance, in our application or by typing in 'sqllocaldb s "v11.0"' on the command line. This issue only occurs on Windows 8 x86. Works fine on Windows 7 x86/64 and on Windows 8 x64. Have gotten the same results
on a physical Windows 8 x86 box, as well as on a Windows 8 x86 VM we created to retest the issue. ASP.NET 4.5 has been enabled in Windows Features. Here's what the Instance's error log has to say:

The log on a working Windows 8 x64 installation is almost identical, until the errors appear. Tried using SQL Server Management Studio 2012 to crack open the master.mdf on the Windows x86 database, but the LocalDB startup issue prevents
me from connecting to the instance. Also tried using Systools MDF Viewer, but it won't recognize the file. Guess it doesn't support 2012. Here's the log from the "good" installation:

BOFC Unable to start the data source
Hi there,
i've done a standalone install using SQL 2008 R2 express. But i'm unable to start the data source and get this error:
Failed to start data source
Failed to start server instances on machine DELL1.
Failed to initialize server configured on machine DELL1.
Class not registered
Thanks,
AneesOk, problem solved.
I had to create a seperate DCOM user and assign it to the following roles in windows:
log on as a batch job
log on as a service
then assign this DCOM user to the Ctbroker and CTserver. As i'm not running this on a domain, there was no need to use 'packet level authentication'. So i set the authentication level to none.
There was no need to use the web based admin interface. Ctadmin.msc worked perfectly.
Thanks,
Anees
