SQL*Loader handle unicode character
Hi all,
We are using Oracle 7.3.4 in HP-UX, we use sql loader to import some text file.
In the text file, some time it contain Unicode or Chinese Character, the Unicode character always use more than 1 byte each. How can I code the ctrl file or any other method to avoid error such as 'maximum length exceed'.

2.- I move the files to Oracle server Open and see the file at this level, you may find the junk characters appended at every line. This occurs due to file transfer. (if so which mode you used while transfering the file?)
Workaround:
Try moving files through Binary mode

I am not sure if my question is valid but I am having this doubt.
I am trying to load data from my data file into a table with just a single column of FLOAT datatype using SQL Loader. But very few insertions take place, leaving a large number of record rejected for the same reason-
Record 7: Rejected - Error on table T1, column MSISDN.
ORA-01722: invalid number
The data in my datafile goes like this: (with a single space before every field)
233207332711<EOFD><EORD> 233208660745<EOFD><EORD> 233200767380<EOFD><EORD>
Here I want to know if there is any way to type cast the data read from the data file to suit my table column's datatype.

SQL Loader and ^M character

Please I need help with this problem:
I am migrating data from a Solid Database to Oracle, I am using Flat Files to do that.
1.- I download the data to flat files from Solid
2.- I move the files to Oracle server
3.- I upload the data to Oracle
Now, I have done the 90% of the data base, but I have found some tables that has description columns and in this description the users writes enters, so when I try to upload the data to Oracle SQL loader cannot recognize this characters.
Example:

SQL LOADER - fields containing CRs
I am using SQL loader for uploading some data extracted from another database. data contains one field that has 'Carriage Return' characters. when sql loader reads this character it treats it as beginning of another record. This results in load errors.
Can anybody suggest a way to handle the fields containing Carriage Returns ?

You can load the data as in a stg table and the move from stg table to regular table concatenating both call_temp and call_date column together.
load data
infile 'Cell_Phones.dbo.Account_Details.dat' "str '<EORD>'"
into table MD_CELLPHONE.Account_Details_stg
fields terminated by '<EOFD>'
trailing nullcols
Account_Number ,
Phone_Number ,
Call_temp,
Call_Date
Convert to right date format
Insert into account_details (col1 , col2, col3, ...) select val1 , val2 , to_date ( val3 || ' ' || val4) ...
from account_details_stg;

I was wondering if anyone could assist me with a sql loader question. I am trying to use it to load some hungarian data. It always turns the Ő character into an upside down question mark. I understand that it is because the database doesn't understand what that character is. Can someone help me find out how to resolve that? The database is UTF-8. If I paste the character in to the application, it takes it. I have tried all kinds of values for the CHARSET parameter in the .ctl file, but nothing seems to work....
I believe we are using iso 8859-1.
I am having a difficult time thinking that it could be we don't have the appropriate installations - because if we paste it in via the oracle application we can see it in a form. If we sql load that same character and look at it in an oracle form, we see the question marks.
i've looked at many of the documents on tahiti already, and found some helpful stuff, but no explanation for the problem i am having so far :) -
Sql*loader and relate tables
I have a file formated like the following:

222|7,8|
Oracle relate table looks like:
tab1 (id1 number, id2 number)
Can sql*loader handle this kind of data? I should have 5 records in tab1 once the load is finished.
tab1 should have:
111,1
111,2
111,3
222,7
222,8NO
It will not work like that.
You have to have data file like
111|1
111|2
111|3
222|7
222|8

SQL Loader Multibyte character error

Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.2.0 - 64bit Production
Database Characterset: WE8MSWIN1252
To load an utf8 File (UTF-8 Unicode text) i use option characterset UTF8 in controlfile.
All went fine until in textfile the column is filled up with 40 chars and
german umlaute included (ÜÖÄüöä...)
Loader stops (errors=0) and gives:
Record 146466: Rejected - Error on table 'TableName', column 'ColumnName'.
Multibyte character error
* use CHAR(40) and POSITION(start-end) for field description - no help
* modify column, from VC2(40 char) to VC2(50 char) - no help
* without characterset UTF8 option i got wrong characters for german umlaute - no help
* manual insert the data from this row with NO problems !
any hint or workaround?

my colleague is working on a windows system.
On both systems exact the same error from SQL Loader.
Btw, try with different number of special characters (german umlaute and euro) and there is no chance to load without the error
when to many (?) special characters or data is long as column length and special characters included.

SQL*LOADER ERROR WHILE LOADING ARABIAN DATA INTO UNICODE DATABSE

I was trying to load arabic data using sql*loader and the datafile is in .CSV format.But i am facing a error Value to large for a column while loading and some data are not loaded due to this error.My target database character set is..
Characterset : AL32UTF8
National Character set: AL16UTF16
DB version:-10g release 2
OS:-Cent OS 5.0/redhat linux 5.0
I have specified the characterset AR8MSWIN1256/AR8ISO8859P6/AL32UTF8/UTF8 separately in the sql*loader control file,but getting the same error for all the cases.
I have also created the table with CHAR semantics and have specified the "LENGTH SEMANTICS CHAR" in the sql*loader control file but again same error is coming.
I have also changed the NLS_LANG setting.
I am getting stunned that the data that i am goin to load using sql*loader, it is resided in the same database itself.But when i am generating a csv for those datas and trying to load using sql*loader to the same database and same table structure,i am getting this error value too large for a column.
whats the probs basically???? whether the datafile is problemetic as i am generating the csv programmetically or is there any problem in my approach of loading unicode data.
Please help...Here's what we know from what you've posted:
1. You may be running on an unsupported operating system ... likely not the issue but who knows.
2. You are using some patch level of 10gR2 of the Oracle database but we don't know which one.
3. You've had some kind of error but we have no idea which error or the error message displayed with it.
4. You are loading data into a table but we do not have any DDL so we do not know the data types.
Perhaps you could provide a bit more information.

I have to remove < > and / character at the time of loading into table. How It could be done. It is not possible to remove < , > , / character manually from CSV fileOn Unix/Linux that's very easy, on Windows... I don't know...

SQL Loader unicode (umlaut) problem
Hi
I want to load some data with SQL Loader. The data contains german umlaut like ä, ö, ü.
The loading process works, but the umlaut are transformed to something like 'ü' in the DB. How can I get to load them correctly?
My environment:
- DB 10g Rel.2
- Windows XP
- Registry key in Ora_Home: NLS_LANG=GERMAN_GERMANY.WE8MSWIN1252
I tried it with setting the character set in the CTL file:
characterset 'WE8MSWIN1252'
That didn't help either.
Does anyone have an idea? I searched the forum but didn't find a solution.

Urgent :SQL Loader Arabic Character Set Issue
HI all,
I am loading arabic characters into my database using SQL Loader using a fixed length data file. I had set my characterset and NLS_LANG set to UTF8.When I try to load the chararacter 'B' in arabic data i.e. ' لا ' , it gets loaded as junk in the table. All other characters are loaded correctly. Please help me in this issue and its very urgent.

Even after setting the characterset to arabic and the problem continues to persist. This problem occurs only with the character "b".
