Attach a digital signature to SQL mail
How do I use an email certificate to sign email sent using SQL Mail? I have a certificate installed so that I can sign email sent from Outlook. This is on SQL Server 2005 using either Database Mail or SQL Mail.
How do I use an email certificate to sign email sent using SQL Mail?
Hello Jeffrey,
It's not possible with SQL DB-Mail, you have to use an other (own developed) application to send signed e-mails.

Viewing SQL mail attachment on Blackberry
We receive many reports from SQL using SQL Mail sending to our Exchange account. On the BB these text file attachments are not viewable correctly. The report is columns (4) and text but on the BB they appear empty. There is a space or 2 but no viewable data.
Hi portnh,
If you press " N " it will move from one date to another,and if the message is unread message you can try pressing " U " it will take you to the unread message ,You may try pressing " S " it may open the search box where you can search your message.
Try all this but I think it will better if you get your trackpad repaired to avoid all this problems.
Good Luck
Prince

I would like to setup a trigger to send an email after an email is added to a table. The table name would be 'iPad' and the email column is 'text_box_3'.

Below is an example trigger that uses the default Database Mail profile to send an email for each inserted row. You can configure Database Mail using SSMS or with a T-SQL script. See
http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/dang/archive/2009/05/17/Database-Mail-Configuration.aspx for an example script.
CREATE TRIGGER TR_iPad
ON dbo.iPad
FOR INSERT
AS
DECLARE @email varchar(255);
DECLARE inserted_emails CURSOR LOCAL FAST_FORWARD FOR
SELECT text_box_3
FROM inserted;
OPEN inserted_emails;
WHILE 1 = 1
BEGIN
FETCH NEXT FROM inserted_emails INTO @email;
IF @@FETCH_STATUS = -1 BREAK;
EXECUTE msdb.dbo.sp_send_dbmail
@subject = 'Email address inserted',
@recipients = @email,
@query = 'Confirmation email';
END;
CLOSE inserted_emails;
DEALLOCATE inserted_emails;

PL/SQL Mail Utility :: Binary/Ascii/Cc/Bcc/FileDump
I was working on my mail package and decided it was overtly complicated and
stripped it down to its bare bones. Here is what I came up with. Built on a previous
foundation of anothers work, I expanded the functionality considerably. You will find all
the features I think that you will need regarding a mail routine. There is also a nice
filedump routine included which makes very easy to create flat file dumps that you can
then attach to your emails. There are a few pre-reqs in using this though :
- 9iR2+
- DBA_Directories defined as opposed to utl_file paths
- Java Virtual Machine. Document can be found in Note :105472.1 Setup, Configuration,
and Use of the Java Virtual Machine on metalink.
As always, I welcome feedback and suggestions for improvement.

This version allows for a customized seperator value. Using this function will allow you to
perform fixed width flat files by defining '' for no seperator and then RPAD/LPAD your columns as necessary.
Or use whatever seperator you wish to use, pipe, space, zeros, etc.

This procedure uses the UTL_TCP package to send an email message.
Up to three file names may be specified as attachments.
Written: Dave Wotton, 14/6/01 (Cambridge UK)
This script comes with no warranty or support. You are free to
modify it as you wish, but please retain an acknowledgement of
my original authorship.
Amended: Dave Wotton, 10/7/01
Now uses the utl_smtp.write_data() method to send the message,
eliminating the 32Kb message size constraint imposed by the
utl_smtp.data() procedure.
Amended: Dave Wotton, 20/7/01
Increased the v_line variable, which holds the file attachment
lines from 400 to 1000 bytes. This is the maximum supported
by RFC2821, The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol specification.
Amended: Dave Wotton, 24/7/01
Now inserts a blank line before each MIME boundary line. Some
mail-clients require this.
Amended: Dave Wotton, 4/10/01
Introduced a 'debug' parameter. Defaults to 0. If set to
non-zero then errors in opening files for attaching are
reported using dbms_output.put_line.
Include code to hand MS Windows style pathnames.
Amended: Barry Chase, 4/29/03
Added Priority to procedure and also X-Mailer ID.
Removed restrictions for email size limitation as well.
Emails are now formatted text messages, meaning you can
write your message in html format.
And finally, changed from using UTL_SMTP to UTL_TCP instead.
Amended: Barry Chase 11/10/2003
Added session timeout of 4 minutes to prevent hanging server connections
Amended: Barry Chase 12/04/2003
Added Date String so that it represents timezone of originating server
p_datestring
Amended: Barry Chase 03/01/2004
Added functionality to support binary attachments and remote attachments.
Its about 98% complete. Not work perfectly yet. Still trying to figure out
encoding to base64 or mime. Have a good start on it though.
04/12/2004
BCHASE :: Binary Support is fully functional now.
09/01/2005
BCHASE :: Modified attachment directories to use DBA_DIRECTORIES instead
of UTL_DIR in the Oracle initialization file.
02/22/2006
BCHASE :: Added variable length message email support (CLOB)
04/21/2006
BCHASE :: Expanded functionality to include Cc and Bcc
Also removed redundant calls from package. The single
mail_files command will handle flat files and binary files such as zip/pdf/etc.
SMTP Server and SMTP Server Port are parameters on the sendmail procedure now
as well.
Refer to http://home.clara.net/dwotton/dba/oracle_smtp.htm for more
details on the original source code.

/Perhaps your new SMTP server requires a more secure form of authentication than AUTH LOGIN. If you telnet to this new SMTP server on port 25 you should be issue the HELO or EHLO command to find out what AUTH mechanisms the server supports. You could then alter your code to use one of the supported authentication mechanisms.

Database Mail not working with SQL Server Agent
I'm running SQL Server 2005 Standard edition 64 bit with SP2 on a 64 bit machine.
Database mail does not work with SQL Server Agent. When I configure SQL Server Agent to use database mail the test email button is greyed out and inactive therefore I cannot send emails using operators or for jub success failure etc.
I've read that there was supposed to be a fix for this with SP1 but I have SP2 and still receive the same problem. Please can somebody help as I do not wish to use SQL Mail as a work around due to this becomming redundant in future versions of SQL Server.
Kind RegardsThe problems solved
steps:
1)we create a mail profile at at Managment->Database Mail ,of SQL Managment
2)we set this account as "default" at Managment->Database Mail -> Configure Database Mail -> Manage profile security
3)At tab "Alert System" of SQL Server Agent properties , we check the "Enable mail profile" , Mail System=Database Mail, Mail profile = "the profile we already create"
4)we create a new operator at "Operators" of sql agent, where at "notification options" -> "Email name" we put the mail where we want to sent the agent the mails at failured job
5)We go at a specific job, at tab "Notifications" ,we check the "email" check box and then we choose the operator we just create, at the text box next to check box.
I hope not to forget something
Thank You all for the help -
SQL Server 8 / Server 2003 + Exchange 2010 E-Mail Notification
I was asked to setup a mail profile on the SQL 8 server we have running on Server 2003 so it can send emails via exchange. Every guide online is telling me to install an exchange client but I have no idea what an exchange client is? Anyone got any guides
for this?Hi Neurotox,
According to your description, we need to verify if you use SQL Server 2008 and
want to setup a mail profile in SQL Server database for sending an email or notification. If yes, as other post, you need to configure database mail in SQL Server. In SQL Server 2000 , it supports MAPI profiles to send email instead of an
SMTP server. SQL Mail requires a MAPI-compliant mail server (Microsoft Exchange Server) and a MAPI client (Microsoft Outlook).
And now it uses an SMTP server to send mail. When you specify the related accounts associated with the profile, you can use
an external e-mail application, such as 126, 163, yahoo and so on.
Only set the right SMTP server name, port number, and
in Basic Authentication option, enter the same email ID along with the valid password of the email ID. It can send and receive e-mail.

SQL Server Creating Blocking Alerts
I have a SCCM 2012 R2 system that has separate App and Sql servers. I installed CU4 on 3/5. Here of late my DBA support team has been getting a lot of "Blocking Alerts" from the SQL side of things. This is a sample email:

Any thoughts on why these are happening? Did I forget something when installing CU4?Hi,
Check the step by step guide
Step-by-Step SCCM 2012 R2 CU4 Installation guide
And since the issue is related to SQL performance, it would be difficult for troubleshooting without accessing your environment, I would suggest to contact with CSS support.

So, Where sent messages are stored?
Because if I go into my email account nothing appears in the outbox?Of course not. Why would it appear in your e-mail reader's outbox when your e-mail reader did not send the e-mail ?
my Pl/sql looks like:
BEGIN
utl_mail.send(sender => '[email protected]',
recipients => '[email protected]',
subject => 'Test',
message => 'HOlix');
END;And this results in the Oracle database server to contact the mail server and send the mail. Your e-mail client is not part of this process. Your e-mail reader does not know about that e-mail. Your e-mail reader is a client- not a server. It has no reason to know what another e-mail client (your PL/SQL code) send or did not send.
You want an outbox? You need then to design and code one for your PL/SQL mail client.
I dont understand what happen?Perhaps you should read up on WHAT a mail (SMTP) server is, HOW it works, and WHAT a PPOP3/IMAP mailbox is, and HOW that works? -
SQL 2000 SMTP works from outlook, fails from SQL
We have an older SQL2000 server running on Windows 2003 that we can't get rid of yet or upgrade to a newer version of SQL due to legacy software. It will hopefully be gone in the next 12 months or so but it needs to keep running for now. It has
been running nightly jobs that send out reports via email for years using an exchange MAPI profile via Outlook 2003. The problem is we have moved our users to Office365 and want to shut down the exchange server.
I have setup an SMTP relay on one of my other servers and the relay is working fine for forwarding alert emails from UPSes, Scanners, etc. It is only on the SQL server that I am running into problems.
I logged in as the sql domain account on the SQL server and created a new mail profile that uses SMTP to the relay and it sends fine from Outlook2003. I configured both SQLMail and SQL Agent to use the new profile. I rebooted the server,
logged in as the sql user again, started outlook, and then ran one of the jobs that sends an email as the last step. Job History says that all steps completed successfully. But the SMTP Relay doesn't even show an attempt to connect in the logs.
When i send a test message from the same MAPI profile using outlook the email goes through and shows in the logs. If i switch back to the exchange profile the emails get sent correctly and the jobs look the same in the history.
In my test system copy of these servers (backups restored to a isolated Hyper-V system) I uninstalled antivirus, made sure the firewall is turned off, and even tried uninstalling office 2003 and installing outlook 2000 (and that was hard to find a disk for...),
creating a new profile, etc. But I just get the same behavior.
The fact i can send from the profile using Outlook means the profile and smtp relay are working fine. And SQL isn't giving any error messages...
Any suggestions besides keeping exchange up for anther 12 months? I've looked for xp_smtp_sendmail but sqldev.net website has gone away.
Thomas Price
IT Dept. TEAMHi Thomas,
SQL Server 2000 was out of support since April,2013. I suggest you can try to install SQL Server 2005 or later version.
SQL Server 2000 provides a built-in method of sending emails, it requires you to have Outlook and a profile installed on the server, Before you configure SQL Mail, you should test the mail profile used by the mail client to verify that you can use it to
send and receive e-mail to and from the mail server. There is another method, that involves installing a stored procedure on your server that will allow you to send email via SMTP. For more information, see:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/database/sending-automated-job-email-notifications-in-sql-server-with-smtp/
From SQL Server 2005, database mail is a component for sending e-mail message from the database engine using SMTP. It require to create a profile name, description, and then assign an SMTP account to the profile. For more information, you can refer to the
following steps.

Reporting Subscriptions Failing - "Failure Sending Mail". Must be something obvious!
I've spent the last few hours on this and cannot for the life of me figure what it is that I have overlooked. I have created a report email subscription, nothing particularly fancy. It is always failing on:
Failure sending mail: The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was: 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated
The setup:
SCCM 2012 R2
SQL Server 2012 (on the SCCM server)
Exchange 2010
SCCM - Email Notification Component is configured correctly. The SMTP test works and I also receive alerts when one of my SCEP rules are triggered. All good.
SQL Management Studio - DataBase Mail is configured; sending a test e-mail works. Using Basic Authentication with a network account specified.
Exchange 2010 has a Receiver Connector created to relay e-mails from the SCCM Server.
Reporting Services Configuration Manager - Email Section has been completed.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?Hi Garth,
Thanks for the response. I was under the impression that CM12 uses SSRS (and thus the SQL Mail configuration) to send out the Subscription Reports, if that is definitely not the case I can eliminate that part from my configuration all together.
So, to clarify:
CM12 Alerts have always been working fine - no issue here and I understand this is a different kettle of fish to SSRS.
<cite class="ipb" style="padding:0px 10px 8px;border-width:0px 2px 2px;border-left-style:solid;border-left-color:#989898;border-bottom-style:solid;border-bottom-color:#e5e5e5;border-right-style:solid;border-right-color:#e5e5e5;font-weight:bold;font-style:normal;overflow-x:auto;margin:-1px

I actioned the "Send Test E-mail" option when you right-click on the Database Mail option within SQL2012. However, as you pointed out already, if this has absolutely
nothing to do with the Subscription Reports configuration, then this is no longer relevant. If anything it just proves that e-mails can be sent via the Exchange server (using basic authentication).
Now, I guess, I just need to figure what within SSRS Configuration Manager is missing, my trouble is that there isn't any detailed settings I can configure
and Exchange logs doesn't indicate anything that isn't already reported by SCCM:

Mail signature - attach?
I don't know has this question been asked before, but I will ask it now (again?);
When I insert my company logo in the signature box in the Mail preferences it comes out as an attachment (on yahoo mail and others)! What must I do to have this logo appear right on the message not as an attcachment?
Thanks!How do I use an email certificate to sign email sent using SQL Mail?
Hello Jeffrey,
It's not possible with SQL DB-Mail, you have to use an other (own developed) application to send signed e-mails.

Alert in mail ????????///
Hi all
is it posible to get alert through mail using SBOMailer
Thnx in advanceHi Navin,
Perhaps you could consider setting up your alert in SQL Enterprise Manager rather than in SBO. You can use SQL Server Agent to schedule the query to be run and use SQL Mail to send the results via email.
Hope this helps,

SQL server with labs PCs connected to it
Hi
I work at private university where students are thought database course, it's requested to create a SQL server and to allow students from different PCs in the campus (lab, library...) to access that Server,
my question is: what should I install on the students PCs, SQL Express or client tools only?
and how will I mange students / instructors log in , knowing that we are using LDAP authentication ??
your help is highly appreciated (please )
AmandaHi Amanda,
According to your description, if you want to manger the SQL Server instance as an administrator, Personally, I recommend you install SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) in different computers as a client tool, and connect to the instance
remotely. Every student can own their account which can be grant to access, create, modify databases or tables, and execute the Stored Procedure and so on.
In your server, if you install SQL Server Express instance,
it supports most of the features and functionality of SQL Server. However, you need to note that some additional SQL Server database features are not supported in this version of SQL Server Express, such as SQL Server Agent and SQL Server
Agent Service, SQL mail and database mail, database mirroring and so on.
