Can't connect to server from internet
Hi
I’ve just set up a new Mac mini server with Lion 10.7.1.
It’s configured as "Host name for Internet".
I can reach the router from Internet. NAT on the router is setup to forward the the required ports according to Apple’s document "Well known TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products"
Still I can’t connect to any service on the server from Internet (Address Book, Calendar, AFP, VPN)
Please help!
AsbjørnYou can test it from outside with a telnet connection:
Open Terminal.app (Applications > Utilities) and insert:
telnet <ip-address-from-router> <port>
so testing the iCal port would be:
telnet 123.234.45.6 8008
or SSL:
telnet 123.234.45.6 8443
When you get "Escape character is '^]'." the connection is established to the server/port.
When you get " telnet: connect to address 123.234.45.6: Connection refused | telnet: Unable to connect to remote host" something is wrong with the setup.
Maybe it's the Port-forwarding, maybe the setup of the server.
Is it working in the local network?
I also would recommend you, to NOT share AFP over the network! The traffic isn't secured in a single way! Instead just configure VPN and establish the AFP connection through that VPN tunnel, but not directly by opening that connection to the internet! -
Client can not connect to Server installed window server 2008 and using 8.8
HI all!
I have a problem when Client log in to server that installed window server 2008.It can not connect to this server even when restart and key in IP or Server name,...
I try disable Firewall of window 2008 in server machine and client can connect to server. But when i disable firewall, it's mean i can not use Remote desktop or terminal service..
Now, how i can do in order to solve this problem.
Thanks!Hi,
Take a look at the admin guide (Page 75, 119, 159):
If you installed a firewall on the license service computer, make sure that the firewall is not set to port 30000; otherwise, the license service cannot work.
If you are using Port X, make sure that you open Port X and Port (X+1) in the firewall. For example, if you are using port 10000, make sure to also open port 10001.
The default communication port is 1143.
The default port of the SAP Business One license server is 30000 for license communication and 30001 for the license naming service -
Connect to Mac from Windows Vista issue
Hi I want to view some files that are on my Mac from my PC (Windows Vista). Here's what I did so far: On my Mac I enabled file sharing, I selected the folders that I want to share.
Now here's the part that confuses me, it asks me to add the users to share the folder with. but do I enter the username and password for my mac or is it the username and password for my PC? What I did was add all the accounts that are on my mac.
I then went on my PC, clicked on network, I can see the mac computer, I can also see my username and folder, I click on it, I then see the drop box but when I click on it I get a network error message that says "Windows cannot access Users public folder drop box".
I don't know what setting I need to enable since I'm very new to this. I can access the files that are on my PC from my Mac just fine. but I can't access the files that are on my Mac from my PC. Do I need to create a new mac account?
I also noticed that when I click on the mac computer from my PC in Network, it doesn't ask me to enter a username and password, could that be the reason I can't connect? Please help.
Message was edited by: Stuart LawrenceThe user names and passwords are the same on both systems. That is not the issue.
The issue is that each user can only connect to the mac from their windows system when they physically log on as user at the mac.
Otherwise it will not even show up in their network neighborhood.
If I boot up the mac and log in as the user, I can connect to the mac from my windows system but the other two users can't.
Likewise if one of them logs in as the user on the mac, I cannot connect to it from my windows system. -
Mini connects then disconnects from Windows Vista
I recently upgraded to Windows Vista Premium, and my 80gig iPod connects and syncs no problem to iTunes 7. I also have a 4gig mini that when I plug in the USB cable, Vista configures successfully and I can see the iPod as a drive and in device manager, and all is well until I open iTunes. As soon as I open iTunes, the mini shows up, but then Vista says it disconnects, then it reconnects, then disconnects, over and over. Has anyone else had this problem with Vista and their Mini??? Anything I should try??
4GB Mini Other OSI left it plugged in over night and there is no change... I actually have 2 Mini's and the problem occurs with both, but not with the new 80GB iPod.

IMac 24" cant connect in WiFi from Windows Vista
Hi;
First I apologize for my bad english.
Now, here is my problem.
My iMac 24" running under OS X 5.6 connects itself perfectly in WiFi to my CometLabs WRM42 ADSL router in Mac mode. But i'm not able to establish the same connexion in Windows Vista mode.
According to Windows troobleshooting, linking router and Mac with a cable permits the connexion to work and continue to work after pulling out the cable. But the connexion is not again possible without cable after a restart of the computer.
Many thanks to whom will give me the solution.well, to be honest...networking in x ***** these days - but not as much as windows does I miss os9...
Anyway, I have a great deal of experience with it and windows, so chances are i've ran into this problem before... so here it goes -
question one - in your "directory access"(in utilities) what workgroup do you have (it has to be IDENTICAL as the one on the windows machine) otherwise windows wont play nice.
Question two- whats the hardware setup like? Is this directly through a crossover cable? Are you connected through a switch? It sounds like its able to connect, so it must be correctly wired, but. There have been instances (here anyway) where the plug on the wire either wasnt firmly seated, giving intermittant access, or it was simply put together badly. Not that this is the case here, but i would try to eliminate that possibility by going directly between computers with a cross over cable (a good one..heh) just to be certain.
id ask the ip# question, but you gave that in your ping report. The numbers appear to be right, the only thing here i could think of is if A) you have differing subnets, or you have different dns numbers. I highly doubt thats the problem though. Now depending on your version of x, i seem to recall there being the need to set a user to be able to share to windows. In the older days i believe that box was in the accounts control panel. Now its a "accounts" button in the sharing control panel. Be sure to give it the name and pass of the account you've turned on.
the other question that might pertain is, what version of windows is this? Strangely enough i seem to have better success with win98 than with xp. But it would be interesting to find out...
anyhoo, good luck with the voodoo -
Can't connect to server from outside
Using a Comcast Business Modem/Router using their DHCP. I have 5 static IPs. Using 1 to 1 NAT to route incoming static IP(173.14....) address to internal IP(10.1.10...). I can connect to the AFP and Wiki on the LAN by both browser or Finder using afp://10.1.10...), but have not luck over the WAN. Firewall is turned off and I have bypassed any other Comcast router blocks that I can find. I had a Snow Leopard MacMini server working fine before it died. Just bought the new Macmini Server with LION. Is there some configuration difference?
Help! Thanks very much for that insight. I will make the address changes and try it. I am not using the Mac Server as the DHCP though, but I hope this works. It appears that Apple has made a number of architecture compromises to make Lion easier to configure. Not sure if I like it yet, but it does appear to be better organized. After this issue I am wondering if just going ahead a using a VPN would make more sense and be safer in the long run?
If anyone has any suggestions on a reasonably priced VPN I would appreciate it. -
To cut the long story short, I have an android box on which is installed Servers Ultimate Pro app. I use this app to run a Samba server and share the contents of my 3TB external HDD connected to this box and use it as a media server over the wireless network.
This samba server is accessable from all my machines and devices - Win 7 Laptop, Win XP PC, and various other android devices using ES File Explorer. My Win 7 laptop has started to die on me, so I've got a new Win 8.1 laptop. The 8.1 laptop is unable to access
the samba server. I have tried various popular solutions (almost all the ones listed in http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/5dd9991b-78e7-4fa3-b17c-366e4ae0092f) to no joy. The bizzare thing is that I am able to map the samba server to
a network drive in Win 8.1, I am able to see the size of the samba server (says quiet accurately that 1.54TB free of 2.75TB total), but when I click the icon to open the drive, I get the infamous message: Z:\ is not accessible. The specified server cannot
perform the requested operation.
Of course the solution to the linked issue does not solve my problem since I presume Win 8.1 has this security patch KB2536276 built it and cannot be uninstalled. In order to completely rule out any Windows Update causing this issue, I did a clean reinstall
of Win 8.1 and still got the exact same issue.
Any suggestions?Further checks reveal that my wife's Win 8.1 laptop and my Surface RT tablet are both unable to access the Samba share either... but are able to map the share to a network drive showing the free disk space.
Seems like a Windows 8.1 issue to me now... M$ where are you!!! -
Can't connect to server with Windows Live Mail
When I got the e-mail a few weeks ago about changing the e-mail settings, I did so. I use Windows Live Mail on my home computer. I have had not problems at all either sending or receiving mail from either of my accounts.
Early this morning, I checked my e-mail with no problem. When I logged in again around noon, Windows Live Mail wouldn't connect with my server. I double checked settings. Everything was as instructed. But I still couldn't connect.
I just changed them back to old settings and everything is working fine.
What's going on???I'm having the same issue using my Mac. I did try going through the account setup on my Mac Mail for my verizon.net account and it automatically set it up using the old settings(very interesting). It wants to use incoming.verizon.net and outgoing.verizon.net. That actually worked. I got a test message. It was slow but did receive but sending one out from outgoing.verizon.net did not work. Obviously they are having major problems with this switch-over. There is nothing on the website about problems so my guess is they fouled up and are trying to recover without taking the fall again.

Can't manage my APX from Windows Vista
Hello,
I usually use my iMac G5 to access & manage my APX but, since the iMac has a serious HW problem (continuous random reboots until it seems to be "warm" enough - probably linked to the repair extension program closed in 2008 that I missed), I've decided to prepare my work PC (running Vista) to be able to manage the APX (in case the iMac G5 dies definitly).
I've managed to install the software (of course), but it doesn't detect the APX when scanning around (although it is connected to it to surf the web).
Using the File>Manage other & its IP address + password, I've been able to fetch the configuration file.
However, I can't modify it: I always got a -6705 error when trying to update the conf (like just using a new MAC@ to the access list)...
Could you please help me?
Even after fetching this conf file (using the IP@ & password), the Airport Utility still doesn't detect the Airport Extreme...
TIA,
ManuHi Bob,
I've check my PC FW & the rule for the Airport Utility allows in/out connections...
However, I've turned off the wifi & used an Ethernet cable directly between the APX & my PC.
I have re-done the "Manage other", indicating the IP@ & it worked.
I have been able to modify the MAC@ list & update the conf on the APX.
After the update, the APX appeared in the Airport Utility interface, when it wasn't when using the Wifi.
I've switched back to Wifi, unplugged the Ethernet cable & restarted the Airport Utility &, once again, it doesn't detect the APX, when it does using the Wifi from the iMac.
Do you think there's a way to access the APX directly from my PC using the Wifi access & without having to install a cable just the time to maintain the APX?
Thanks again for your help,
Manu -
Connect from windows vista ultimate to oracle 8i
Hello,
I need connect oracle 8i from windows vista ultimate, how to make this
thanks for all
i am spanish, sorry for my expresionI too have a problem with Oracle 8 and Vista (Business). We have many different Oracle platforms administered by many different agencies. One platform is 10g insisting encrypted ODBC connection and the other is 8.x that cannot handle encrypted requests. In the past we just ran 2 or more versions of Oracle client and associated the version's ODBC to the Oracle platform's version. But with Vista there are no 8.x or 9.x Vista compatible clients thus I can only have the Vista machine to connect to one and not the other. There are problems when trying to use a Windows 2000 or XP client versions in Vista.
Anyone have a work around? When I try to change the SQL.ORA on a Vista 10g client to a 8.x db to use "REQUESTED" instead of "REQUIRED" encryption call I get the [Oracle][ODBC] Ora-03134: Connection to this server version no longer support. -
Which version of SQL*Plus can connect to Oracle 8i Database?
Which version of SQL*Plus can connect to Oracle 8i Database?
I would like to know which version of SQL*Plus can connect to Oracle 8i Database?
Where can I download it?
(I have tried SQL*Plus version 11 and the program said it does not support the connection to Oracle 8i Database)
Thank you very much!By the way, what's your 8i database release version
SQL> select * from v$version;
Any SQL*Plus of 8i can connect to 8i Database.
Only SQL*Plus of 9.0.1 can connect to 8.1.7 and 8.1.6 Database
Only SQL*Plus of 10.1.0/10.2.0 can connect to 8.1.7 Database
Absolutely NO SQL*Plus of 11g can connect 8i databases

Safari can't connect to server with parental controls on
I have one user with admin rights and one user plus guest with parental controls turned on. Recently when parental controls are turned on, I get 'safari can't connect to server' error. When I turn parental controls off again I can connect to the internet again. Why is this?
Hi and welcome....
Unfortunately, Parental Controls can only be enabled on a non admin account.
See if there's a proxy set up for Safari. From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Advanced tab. Click "Change Settings" next to: Proxies.
That will launch System Preferences / Network - Proxies.
If there are any boxes checked under: Select a protocol to configure, deselect the box then click Ok.
Quit Safari (Command + Q) then relaunch Safari.
See if Safari can connect in a parental controlled user account.
