SQL*Plus hangs when connecting to remote DB (Solaris, 10gR2)

First of all the particulars:
Local System:
Solaris 8, Oracle 10.2.0.4, October CPU
Remote System:
Solaris 10, Oracle 10.2.0.4, July CPU
We are trying to initiate a connection from our local system to our remote system using a DB Link. After opening SQL*Plus, we log in with <user>@<dblink>, are asked for a password, and after entering the password, SQL Plus hangs indefinitely (we typically have to kill the sqlplus process to regain our session). Also, logging into the local system with a local account, and then querying using the db link (select * from dual@<link>) gives the same result.
From the remote system, we CAN log into the local system using the same process, and we can also query the local system. in other words, it works in one direction, but not the other.
We have checked all the usual suspects: tnsnames, sqlnet, db_domain, global_names, and all are set correct for our setup (although I of course welcome suggestions to check something else in the files). Also have confirmed validity of /etc/hosts entries, and permissions on those files for the 'oracle' user. A 'tnsping' and 'ping' are both successful in both directions, though I understand these only check the listener and hardware layer.
Our Sys Admin has checked firewall connections between the two systems, and stated that they're open on the listener port (1521).
Listener log files on the remote host, when the hang happens, show an established connection from the local host.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to check for next?
Thank you in advance for the assist!

Whew, that truss output is enough to make your eyes bleed!
This system is on a closed network, so I cannot post the files here, nor would I wish reading those things on anyone nice enough to spend a minute here helping me out!@
But comparing the truss from the "broken" system, and the working one, the sqlplus that hangs returns a:
ERR #134 ENOTCONN on a getpeernam() thread.
The other truss (working side), does not throw that particular line, and the truss output varies widely after that line in the output fille.
After a few moments letting the sqlplus process "hang", I get:
ERR #62 ETIME
Outside of that, lust a lot of hex values!

  • SQL Developer Hangs when connecting for Remote Debug

    Hello,
    I've been trying to use the Remote Debug feature of SQL Developer. We are writing a Web Application that connects to Oracle and I would like to debug a package function on the database server (which is not the same machine as my SQL Developer client).
    To test my configuration, I tried connecting on SQLPlus creating a connection (by calling exec dbms_debug_jdwp.connect_tcp('xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx', 'xxxxx'); ) and calling a function which had a breakpoint and the debugging started immediately on SQL Developer. Then I tried putting the dbms_debug_jdwp.connect_tcp('xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx', 'xxxxx'); call inside the stored procedure I was debugging (prior to the line with the breakpoint) and it connected and got to the breakpoint successfully as well. So I'm pretty sure my firewall / user privileges are set up correctly.
    So I modified the function that my web application eventually calls to create the connection (in order to remain in the same session) but whenever it gets to the connect_tcp line SQL Developer hangs and I'm unable to debug. I've realized that it only hangs if I have a breakpoint there. If I don't have a breakpoint then it creates a connection just fine. Of course without a breakpoint it's a bit difficult to debug isn't it? :)
    My Sql Developer version is 3.0 and I'm connecting to Oracle 11.1.0 Below you can find a dump when running SqlDeveloper with console. My OS is windows XP and my Oracle instance is running on Linux.
    I appreciate any help you can provide.

    What I mean is that I put the connect_tcp command inside the package function I want to debug in order to ensure it's going to remain in the same session. e.g.:
    Function GetValue Return Varchar2 Is
    Begin
    dbms_debug_jdwp.connect_tcp('xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx', '25255');
    return 'My Value';
    End;
    I'm afraid I cannot post our code which causes this problem due to our information security policies and simple console and web applications failed to replicate the problem. The function creates a connection to Oracle SQL Developer (which can be seen in the environment with the small ladybug icon) if no breakpoints are set which obviously doesn't allow breaking into the function. However if a breakpoint is also specified in the Return line the connection seems to freeze Oracle SQL Developer. No ladybug icon is shown and no Remote Debug Session seems to open.

  • SQL*PLUS Hangs when I have the Listener running?

    HI,
    I have Oracle 8i Personal Edition running on Win 98. I am using the default starter database (Global Name: oracle, SID orcl).
    If I connect via SQL*Plus with the listener running i.e. connect scott/tiger@oracle, and then try to compile or call a stored produre SQL*Plus hangs. If I connect without the listener running i.e. connect scott/tiger everything works fine.
    Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening?
    Thanks in advance

  • Calling a remote procedure with db link - SQL Plus hangs

    I am trying to call a procedure from a remote database with a db link, within a local procedure. The purpose of the calling the procedure is to get the server time from that database. When I try to compile this procedure on the local database SQL Plus hangs without giving any error message, I have to close SQL Plus. Below are my two procedures:
    Local procedure:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE get_server_time(p_remotetime IN OUT VARCHAR2)
    IS
    /*Grabs the system time from remote database .
    l_remotetime varchar2(16) ;
    BEGIN
    get_remote_time(l_remotetime);
    p_remotetime := l_remotetime;
    END ;
    Remote procedure:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE get_remote_time(p_remotetime in out VARCHAR2)
    IS
    /* Grabs the system time from remote database and returns it to the
    calling proc.
    l_remotetime varchar2(16) ;
    BEGIN
    SELECT to_char(sysdate,'YYYYMMDDHH24MISS')
    INTO l_remotetime
    FROM dual ;
    p_remotetime := l_remotetime ;
    END ;
    I personaly do not see anything unusall with the two procedures, but cant figure out what is making SQL*Plus hang.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks In Advance

    Hello
    Are you able to run the procedure connected to the livetolocal database directly? It looks as if you either have a missing table or the permisions for the user associated with the database link are not sufficient.
    As for calling the procedure, it would probably be more managable if you created a public synonym for it to hide the actual location. That way if you want to change the name of the DB link, or where it points to, no-one has to change their code, you just have to change the synonym.
    HTH
    David

  • ITunes 11.1 hangs when connecting to iCloud. How can I download 11.0.5?

    Arrrrgh! iTunes 11.1 hangs on my system Windows 7 x64 when trying to connect to iCloud. It runs fine if I start it in safe mode (I have no third party plug-ins installed).
    How do I download iTunes 11.0.5???? I've been searching on the Internt for the last 1/2 hour and it looks like Apple prevents users from downloading 11.0 once 11.1 (piece of crap) is out. WHY?????????

    Hi,
    I've been able to resolve the problem of iTunes crashing by emptying the SycServices folder - by following the steps described at the foot of this comment. I've also been able to sync my iPhone contacts with my Address Book ...but I cannot sync my Address Book with Outlook 2011 ...  and thus my iPhone linking to Outlook 2011.
    I'm aware that 'Sync Services' were depreciated in 10.8 and was hoping that this would be restored in full in v: 10.9.3. I understand that MicroSoft needs Sync Services to be reintroduced into the OS to enable the sync to work again for linking up with Outlook 2011 - which appear to be blank in my Sync Services preferences window as follows ....
    I would be mighty grateful for any ideas/solutions on how to resolve this problem. Synching Outlook 2011 with my iPhone was so easy in the past!

    Folks,

    SQLDeveloper 4.0.0.13.80

  • Sqlplus hanging when connecting by specifying user/pwd

    Hi All,
    Oracle 11G R2 on WIndows 2008 R2
    I have cloned a server, serverA, and created a new server, lets say serverB. Two things i changed for this serverB:
    1) edited tnsnames entry so that the alias TST now points to this new serverB hostname (previously it was pointing to serverA)
    2) deleted and recreated the listener
    Now when i try to connect to my instance using sqlplus and the username/pwd, it hangs here:
    D:\ORACLE\DATABASE\ORA11G\database>sqlplus sys/blahblhablhar@tst as sysdba
    SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.3.0 Production on Tue May 7 15:18:36 2013
    Copyright (c) 1982, 2011, Oracle.  All rights reserved.If i try to connect using
    D:\ORACLE\DATABASE\ORA11G\database>sqlplus / as sysdba - IT WORKS.
    I tried to recreate my pwd file using orapwd and no luck.
    Any ideas as to why i cannot connect using the first method? Also, when i try to connect to this instance using SQL developer from my laptop, it also hangs when i do the 'Test' button..??
    Thanks in advance.

  • SQL Developer hangs when expanding table node

    Hello All,
    One of my schemas has 3035 tables. When I expand the "Other Users" node, then the schema owner, then expand "Tables", SQL Developer hangs. I have allowed it to run (as it indicates it is working) for 45 minutes, but it never returns.
    I have one user with nearly the same behavior, but theirs returns after waiting 5 minutes.
    Any ideas?

  • What is SQL Plus trying to connect to? I don't have a database on my machine.

    Strange because I don't know what I'm doing.  I have a Linux box.  It has a fresh install of 11gR2 for learning.  I'm now on my Windows machine.  I thought I could connect to the Linux machine.  On the Windows machine when I start SQL Plus it is asking for a username and password.
    Why is it doing this? I'm not connected to anything that I know of.  There is a production site and I have tnsnames.ora for other things like ODBC, JDBC, etc. but I've never even used SQL Plus on this machine (Windows).  Thanks for help.
    It is from instant client 11.2.

    Ok.  Thanks.  I'm trying to locate the manual so I don't ask any more stupid questions.
    In addition to the official docs at docs.oracle.com, you might find the following enlightening for your current issue:

  • How do I simulate a right-click in Windows when connected with Remote Desktop 8.0 for Mac OS X?

    When connecting to a remote Windows 7 OS from Mac OS X 10.8.5 with Microsoft Remote Desktop 8.0.24091, I'm not able to simulate a right-click with the Apple magic mouse.
    On an older version Microsoft Remote Desktop Client version 2.1.1, I can hold down shift+ctl on the Mac and click the magic mouse to simulate a right-click in Windows.  With this new version RDP 8.0, I can't find any way to simulate a right-click,
    other than to select "Swap mouse buttons" under settings, and then every click is a right-click and then I'm no longer able to left-click (which is even worse).  I've tried several key combinations and nothing seems to work.  Am I missing
    something simple here with the new RDP 8.0 application, or is the right-click simulation not (yet) functional?
    Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!

    In order to make use of the right-click inside an open session you have three options:
    Standard PC two button USB mouse
    Apple Magic Mouse: To enable right-click, clickSystem Preferences in the dock, click Mouse, and then enable Secondary click.
    Apple Magic Trackpad or MacBook Trackpad: To enable right-click, click System Preferences in the dock, click Mouse, and then enable Secondary click.

    Are you using 1.2.1.32.13?

I also on my main computer where all my iTunes are located I cannot find the remote speaker symbol on the bottom of the screen. I am so close to getting this to work it is driving me crazy!! Any help would be appreciated.

    Would you please describe in a bit more detail what your current networking configuration is? That is include the make & mode of each of the network devices (routers, modems, etc.) Also, please describe the general location of each, including the laptop (where you typically use it) and the "main" computer in relation to the AirPort Express? For example, are they all in the same room, in different rooms, on different floors?
