SQL Query With Java

I have a database field with over 1000 drawing numbers. How can I write a query to only select a specified number of drawing numbers? For example, if I want to only select 50 drawing numbers instead of all 1000, how can I write this query?
Thanks in advance.
Dar

The above mentioned query is not supported by all databases even though it's a valid SQL query. For me it didn't work with Oracle.
If you are using it in a Java program, you can set the number of rows to be returned by a query on the statement (java.sql.Statement) object using the setMaxRows call.

  • SQL query with Java Server Pages

    Hey,
    I'm trying to read some information from database with SQL Query. How I can put the parameter that I get from previous *.jsp page to SQL query?
    Technologies that I use are WML, JSP and MySQL.
    I can get the parameter by method getParameter() and it is correct.
    But how to but the requested parameter into sql query and complete the sql query?
    Should I read it to some variable before putting it to sql query?
    */ this works fine */
    out.println("<p>periodi"+request.getParameter("periodi"+"loppu</p>");
    /* this doesn't work */

  • SQLEception using Complex SQL Query with Java Studio Creator2 Build(060120)

    I am evaluating Java Studio Creator2 for a WEB base application project that will be making SQL queries to an Oracle Database but I have stumble into a problem using complex SQL queries.
    I am getting an SQLException "org.apache.jasper.JasperException: java.lang.RuntimeException: java.sql.SQLException: [sunm][Oracle JDBC Driver][Oracle]ORA-00923: FROM keyword not found where expected". I looks like it cut my sql.
    The SQL that I am trying to execute is
    Select part_name
    from table1, table2
    where table1.part_nbr = table2.part_nbr
    and table2.row_add_dt = (select max(table3.row_add_dt)
    from table3
    where table3.ser_part_id =table2.ser_part_id)
    This is a valid query that it is using 2 different selects to get a part number.
    If posible, point me to the best solution were I will be able to make complex SQL queries like the one above and bigger.
    Is there any way that I can read an SQL query file instead of inserting the SQL query string into the setCommand()?

    I have read that document looking for some anwsers on how to make this kind of query. If I try the query that I have above in the query editor ,the query editor will cut off from the last select that is between ().
    I beleave, there is a work around using the inner joint or outter join command. I will try them to see If I get the corrent result. If not, then I have to keep on asking for possible solutions.
    Anyway, someone in the Creator Team should take a note in adding something like a special criteria in the Add Query Criteria Box for cases like the one I have. The special criteria will be like using another select/from/where to get some result that will be compare.
    Girish, Are you in the Sun Creator Team?

  • SQL query with Bind variable with slower execution plan

    I have a 'normal' sql select-insert statement (not using bind variable) and it yields the following execution plan:-
    Execution Plan
    0 INSERT STATEMENT Optimizer=CHOOSE (Cost=7 Card=1 Bytes=148)
    1 0 HASH JOIN (Cost=7 Card=1 Bytes=148)
    2 1 TABLE ACCESS (BY INDEX ROWID) OF 'TABLEA' (Cost=4 Card=1 Bytes=100)
    3 2 INDEX (RANGE SCAN) OF 'TABLEA_IDX_2' (NON-UNIQUE) (Cost=3 Card=1)
    4 1 INDEX (FAST FULL SCAN) OF 'TABLEB_IDX_003' (NON-UNIQUE)

    I have the same query but instead running using bind variable (I test it with both oracle form and SQL*plus), it takes considerably longer with a different execution plan:-

    Many thanks for your reply.
    I have run the statistic already for the both tableA and tableB as well all the indexes associated with both table (using dbms_stats, I am on 9i db ) but not the indexed columns.
    for table I use:-
    begin
    dbms_stats.gather_table_stats(ownname=> 'IVAN', tabname=> 'TABLEA', partname=> NULL);
    end;
    for index I use:-
    begin
    dbms_stats.gather_index_stats(ownname=> 'IVAN', indname=> 'TABLEB_IDX_003', partname=> NULL);
    end;
    Is it possible to show me a sample of how to collect statisc for INDEX columns stats?

  • SQL query with JSP and WML-parameters

    Hey,
    Could you help me?
    I'm trying to do the following. WML deck card 1 send parameter to same WML deck's card help. I try to read the parameter with JSP in card help by putting the parameter to SQL query, but it doesn't work. I can read the parameter with WML in card help. I can also print the value of the parameter with JSP if I generate WML with JSP.
    /*parameter sending from card 1 to card help*/
    out.println("<go href='#helpcard'>");
    out.println("<setvar name='valittukurssi' value='$(valittukurssi)'/>");
    /*parameter read with WML in card help */
    <p>Valitse kurssi.
    $valittukurssi</p>
    /'parameter read with JSP by generating WML with JSP*/
    out.println("<p>$valittukurssi</p>");
    /* SQL query with JSP */
    ResultSet uudettulokset = uusilause.executeQuery("select * from kurssi where lyhenne='$valittukurssi'");
    Thanks,
    Rampe

    You're problem is easy to fix. You're confusing WML variables with JSP variables. See below:
    >
    /*parameter sending from card 1 to card help*/
    out.println("<go href='#helpcard'>");
    out.println("<setvar name='valittukurssi'
    value='$(valittukurssi)'/>");
    Above you set a var that will work on the phone, not in JSP.
    /*parameter read with WML in card help */
    <p>Valitse kurssi.
    $valittukurssi</p>
    Yes the above does display the parameter, because it is a client side WML var, but you cannot use this variable in the JSP code (that's why your SWL fails).
    /'parameter read with JSP by generating WML with
    JSP*/
    out.println("<p>$valittukurssi</p>");Here's you're problem, the above line is EXACTLY the same as the one before it. When the container parses through this JSP code it translates the above line to:
    <p>$valittukurssi</p> on the WML page and the CLIENT uses it's local variable to display it.
    What you need and want is to have a variable that can be used in JSP code and output to your WML page. Here's how it's done:
    out.println("<go href='#helpcard'>");
    String some_name = "valittukurssi";
    out.println("<setvar name='"+some_name+"'
    value='$("+some_name+")'/>");
    //note that you may have to escape the ( and ) with a \
    //so we displayed the variable above into the WML page, now we can use it in the SQL query:
    /* SQL query with JSP */
    ResultSet uudettulokset =
    uusilause.executeQuery("select * from kurssi where
    lyhenne='"+some_name+"'");//the end of the command is: " ' " ) ;

    I am trying to write a query to aggregate paid_amount based on Reference_No, Check_Number, Payment_Date, Invoice_Number, Invoice_Type, Vendor_Number and display description with Invoice_type 'I' when there are multiple records with the same Reference_No, Check_Number, Payment_Date, Invoice_Number, Invoice_Type, Vendor_Number. • Extract Sql Query with Actual Parameters from Report

    Hi
    I am able to extract query from Crystal Report using the following code :
    ReportDocument.ReportClientDocument.RowSetController.GetSqlStatement(new GroupPath, out tmp);
    But the sql query retrieve comes in the following format :
    select name , trans_code, account_code from command_query.accounts
    where account_code = {?Command_query_Prompt0}  and effective_date < '{?Command_query_prompt1 }'
    The parameters which I m using in the reports are :
    Account_Code and Effective_Date .
    Why does my extracted sql translates it into {?Command_query_Prompt0} and '{?Command_query_prompt1 }' .
    Is there any way to map this to the actual parameter values ?
    OR
    Can we extract the query after assigning the values ?
    Any help is appreciated ...
    Thanks
    Sanchet

    hi,
    You can create nested sql query with conditional parameters,
    For example
    Select Code From OITT Where Code IN (Select ItemCode From OITM
    Where ItemName LIKE '[%0]' + '%%')

  • Execute an sql proc with Java

    Hi all
    Could anybody tell me how can I exec an sql proc with Java?
    Thank you very much
    Regards
    chkmja
    My Java code and SQL proc look like below.
    Java code
    m_connection.createStatement().execute("exec MSG_SNAPSHOT()");
    sql Proc
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE MSG_SNAPSHOT AS
    BEGIN
         EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'TRUNCATE TABLE REVISION_MESSAGE';
         INSERT INTO REVISION_MESSAGE (PK_ID, MSGSTATE, SCHEDSTATE, EXTERN_ID, OBJECT_NAME, PROCESS_AT)
         SELECT msg.PK_ID, msg.MSGSTATE, msg.SCHEDSTATE, msg.EXTERN_ID, msg.OBJECT_NAME, msg.PROCESS_AT
         FROM MESSAGE partition (non_final) msg WHERE msg.SCHEDSTATE <> -1;
    END;
    Here my problem is I get --->
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00900: invalid SQL statement

    Just a quick check under java.sql.Connection found:
    prepareCall
    public CallableStatement prepareCall(String sql)
    throws SQLException
    Creates a CallableStatement object for calling database stored procedures.
    Isn't this what you should be using and not createStatement() ?

  • Hosting company does not support SQL query with OUTFILE clause

    From my mysql database, I want to allow the user to run a query and produce a csv / text file of our membership database.   Unfortunately,  I just found out my hosting company does not support the SQL query with OUTFILE clause for MySQL database.
    Are there any other options available to produce a file besides me running the query in phpadmin and making the file available to users.
    Thanks.  George

    Maybe this external Export Mysql data to CSV - PHP tutorial will be of help

  • How to write a SQL query in Java

    Hi, I'm writing a program that pulls all data from the database with a simple "SELECT * FROM [TABLE NAME]. The problem is that I don't know how to set it up properly. My code will only connect to the database but not execute the query. Please help.
    {code}import java.sql.*;
    import java.util.Properties;
    import java.sql.*;

    String driver = "com.oracle.jdbc.Driver";

    String password = "database";

    I added it between my System.out statement and the catch exception. This is what I put, but I'm getting the same result. I looks like a lot of errors. The only thing that prints is the "Connected to database".
    Statement stmt = con.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE,
    ResultSet.CONCUR_READ_ONLY);
    ResultSet srs = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM HR");Here is what displays in the console.

    Because you aren't even loading the driver.
    To be honest if you can't decipher a stack trace with "java.lang.ClassNotFoundException" on your own you are not ready for JDBC anyway.
