SQL server 2008 Service pack install with mirroring
Just looking for some official documentation about installing service pack 3 when I have a mirrored set up in high-safety mode with automatic failover.
I have found this,
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb677181%28v=sql.100%29.aspx would the same apply to the service packs as well?
Thanks

SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 installation problem
I am using Windows 7.
Today I saw "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1 (KB968369)" as an optional update in the updates list. I've tried to intstall it but it failed with Code CF2E222F. I found nothing about this code on the internet.
I've also tried to install the sp manually. I've downloaded it an tried to install. But it also failed.
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: C:\Windows\Installer\9bcac.msi.

SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 Configuration file path: is empty
I have begun installing SQL 2012 Service Pack 2 on a test system and I go to the page where it is Ready to update. The configuration file path: at the bottom of the screen was empty. Is this normal or will I need to go to the default locations
of Bootstrap to find the configuration file this upgrade is going to use? This is something that is odd as a majority of our current installations is automated using a configuration file and a path for the Upgrade files.
RickHi Rick,
Based on your description, I make a test on my computer. When I go to the ‘Ready to update’ page, I also find that the ‘configuration file path’ box is empty, below is my screenshot. This is a normal phenomenon during the installation of SQL Server Service
Pack.
We don’t need to find the configuration file from SQL Server setup location, just click the Update button to perform the Service Pack installation. After the update process, I install SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2 successfully.
Besides, there is also a similar article about installing SQL Server Service Pack for your reference.

I am using Reporting Service Integration mode with SharePoint. SSRS is installed on separated machine of SharePoint stacks in Integration Mode. Everything was working properly and I could create/edit/modify RDL reports(parameters, Datasource, Subscription)
inside SharePoint and Document Libraries.
But after installing SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2, on opening RDL reports inside SharePoint I receive this error message.
The permissions granted to user 'i:0#.f|membership|username' are insufficient for performing this operation. ---> Microsoft.ReportingServices.Diagnostics.Utilities.AccessDeniedException: The permissions granted to user 'i:0#.f|membership|username' are insufficient for performing this operation
I should mention that SSRS is installed in the SharePoint integration Mode and there is no SSRS management console.Hi Hedayat-Abedijoo,
According to your description, you are using Reporting Services in SharePoint Integrated mode, and everything worked fine before you install SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2. After the package is installed, when you open RDL reports, the error occurred: The
permissions granted to user 'i:0#.f|membership|username' are insufficient for performing this operation.
According to my search, there may be two reasons for the problem:
This is caused when the application pool account that runs the SharePoint Web application you are on in IIS and the application pool account that SharePoint believes is running the site differ. This happens if the application pool account is changed directly
in IIS instead of through SharePoint (using the approved method).
This error can be caused when Kerberos authentication has been set up correctly and delegation in a double hop scenario will succeed, but Reporting Services integration has been set up for Trusted Account rather than Windows Authentication. This causes
SharePoint to continue to impersonate the logged-on user when contacting Reporting Services; when Reporting Services compares the application pool account to the user account making the request, they are not equal.
In this case, we can solve the problem by changing the application pool account in IIS back to the previous account and set AuthenticationTypes to RSWindowsNTLM only. For detail information, please refer to 8.3 “The permissions granted to user 'Domain\User'
are insufficient for performing this operation” in the document:http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee384252(SQL.100).aspx
If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.
Thanks,

After Installing SQL Server 2012 Service Pack the RDL reports do not work
I installed SQL Server 2012 Service Pack on backEnd sharepoint and also on BI Server that host Reporting Service.(Before installation everything was working properly)
After this installation the RDL reports do not open and I receive this error message.
The permissions granted to user 'domain\username' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)
I also receive the same error message on changing DataSource, Parameters and subscription.
I should mention that, I am using Reporting Services in the Integration Mode. I want to open and modify RDL reports from SharePoint and inside the SharePoint Document Library.Hi Hedayat,
Thanks for posting your issue,
To solve this problem you have to grant your SQL Reporting Service Application Pool
Account (whatever is running your SQL Service Application, see Central Admin -> Manage Service Application -> SQL Server Reporting Services)
Full Control to the web application that report is being deployed to in your particular case.
Or you could just use the powershell command below:
$webApp = Get-SPWebApplication –Identity http://yoursharepointapp
$webApp.GrantAccessToProcessIdentity(“domain\SSRSAccount”)
Also, check out below mentioned URLs for more details and fixes of this issue

SQL Server 2008 R2 SP3 compatibility with TFS 2012?
Hi all,
I have a client who is planning on upgrading from SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 to SQL Server 2008 R2 SP3 but wants to make sure that their installed Team Foundation Server 2012 databases will be ok?
I have found a Microsoft article saying that TFS 2012 support SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 but nothing about SP3.
Thanks for your help!
MartynHi Martyn,
According to this
article, Team Foundation Server 2012 (TFS 2012) requires SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 or SQL Server 2012. From my point of view, it means that we need to run at least SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 when using TFS 2012, and TFS 2012 can work with SQL Server 2008
R2 SP1 later version (contains SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 and SQL Server 2008 R2 SP3).
In addition, we recommend you install the latest released service pack for your SQL Server, as service pack includes a number of important fixes that TFS could benefit from.
For TFS issues, for quick and accurate response, I would like to recommend that you ask the question in the Visual Studio Team Foundation Server forums at
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/home?category=vstfs . It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.
Thanks,
Lydia Zhang

Verify that SQL Server Reporting Services is installed properly and that it is running.
I am trying to install DPM 2010 on Windows 2008 R2. Running through installation and the server that I'm installing DPM to will also host the SQL instance and Reporting instance. Pretty much choosing all the defaults.
Installation gets to reporting portion and fails. It says that I need to verify that Reporting Services is running. The exact error is:
Data Protection Manager installation has failed. To return the server to its original state, you must uninstall Data Protection Manager by using Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. This will remove all files and components copied during installation.
For details, click the Error tab.
DPM Setup has not configured Reporting Services to use Secure Sockets Layer. For more information on how to configure the Report Server for Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connections, see Configuring Report Server for Secure Sockets Layer (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=178289)
Report configuration failed.

It is running and working, I can go to the URL and see Reports installed. It grabbed a server certificate which is valid and binds that to 443. I have tried this as well with the certificate removed.

The real problem is the error UnableToConfigureAccount and *** Mojito error was: PasswordTooShort; 0; None
The reason is due to the new password complexity on Windows 2008 which states the following:
Password must meet complexity requirements
This security setting determines whether passwords must meet complexity requirements.
If this policy is enabled, passwords must meet the following minimum requirements:
Not contain the user's account name or parts of the user's full name that exceed two consecutive characters
Be at least six characters in length Contain characters from three of the following four categories:
English uppercase characters (A through Z)
English lowercase characters (a through z)
Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
Non-alphabetic characters (for example, !, $, #, %)
Complexity requirements are enforced when passwords are changed or created.
Default:
Enabled on domain controllers.
Disabled on stand-alone servers.
Note: By default, member computers follow the configuration of their domain controllers.
Please use a more secure password adhering to the above criteria and DPM should install fine.

Silent SQL Server 2008 Management Studio install on Win7
Hi,
Is there a way to suppress Compatibility warning box while silently installing SQL Server 2008 Management Studio install on Win7?
Thanks,
HHi Kugler,
Even I was facing the same issue. It is because you may pending reboots on the target machine.
I also used the cmdline as below:
<PATH of EXE> /Q /IACCEPTSQLSERVERLICENSETERMS /ACTION=install /FEATURES=SSMS,ADV_SSMS /HIDECONSOLE
Before installation it is better to restart the target machine and start with the installation. -
Hey guys...
Im a little bit confused... i wanted to download the newest hotfixes for SQL server 2012...
But the download for :
2983175 Cumulative update package 2 (CU2) for SQL Server 2012 Service Pack
is only for the platform: x86 available ... but my SQL server 2012 is running in a x64 environment...
(when i checked the older cumulative updates... they're all only for x86.. can someone tell me why ? )
thanks and regards,
DominicThere doesn't exist an SQL Express "Standard". It's two different editions.
For Express there are three 32bit/64bit editions:
Express, Express with Tools and Express with Advanced Services.
Express with Tools is essentially Express with Management Studio Tools, Express with Advanced Services adds also BI (Business Intelligence) + Reporting Services.
As for where you can apply the cumulative update, on the link you can see this:
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 2, when used with:
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Developer
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Enterprise
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Business Intelligence
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Standard
Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Web

I am trying to install SQL Server 2008 in my local machine. However, I kept running into errors with the following error message:
"The MOF Compiler could not connect with the WMI Server. This is either because of a semantic error such as an incompatibility with the existing WMI repository or an actual error such
as the failure of the WMI Server to start".
I also ran "rundll32 wbemupgd, UpgradeRepository" to rebuild WMI repository, it doesn't help either. I got the same error message.
Any ideas what settings I need to change in order to ensure a successful installation of SQL Server 2008?"The MOF Compiler could not connect with the WMI Server. This is either because of a semantic error such as an incompatibility with the existing WMI repository or an actual error such

can you check below two links.Make sure previous failed installation is removed completely.

Solution given by Connect MS is:
Possibly the issue was caused by uninstalling from add-remove programs - at any rate, using aaron bertrand's suggestion below fixed the issue. Also of note - I used the local admin for the install.
http://sqlblog.com/blogs/aaron_bertrand/archive/2009/02/20/the-xp-sp3-msxml6-sp2-sql-server-debacle.aspx
yes - remove msxml6 and any other half installed portion of sql 2008 and REBOOT and install sql

SQL Server 2008 Express edition install issue.
Ok, i've been looking around forums for a while now and have not found a post similar to this one or one that offers a solution; so here it goes.
I'm trying to install management studio and in the web platform installer i keep getting this error:
"You must install visual C++ 2008 SP1 before you can install SQL server 2008 Express with tools"
I managed to get the install to "work", but it didn't actually install the studio app. So heres my questions:
Firstly...why? i've installed this before and not had any issues at all, so why the sudden need for C++?
Secondly, does anyone have any insight into my problem and how i cant actually install it?
The only real difference between this install and previous installs is that i'm not running it on vista home premium 64-bit (previously 32-bit).
I tried installing visual C++ express, but that didn't work.
Thank you in advance and for giving up your time to read this.Hi,
Based on the error message, your computer has Visual C++ 2008 before you install SQL Server 2008. However, Visual Studio 2008 does not support having Visual Studio 2008 without a service pack. The error message indicates you to install Service Pack 1 for Visual C++. Please download Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 from the following link and install it:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=FBEE1648-7106-44A7-9649-6D9F6D58056E&displaylang=en
For more information, please refer to "Actions that are required before you install SQL Server 2008 on a computer that has Visual Studio 2008 or the prerelease version of SQL Server 2008 installed":

Thanks.

Sql server 2008 service accounts.
For Sql server agent and Sql Server Database engine a dedicated low privileged
separate accounts are assigned while installing Sql Server 2008 R2.But when
I am specifying Sql Server feature installation in the setup role and in feature
selection I am selecting all ,what should be the nature of accounts that I should
provide for Sql Server Analysis Service and Sql Server Reporting Services?
If I install Sqlserver 2008R2 in my local machine running under windows-7
and use a local standard user account to run my DB engine, would I be
able to access the databases in Sql Server 2008 installed in a remote
server in the same domain?I agree with Erland.
SQL Service account is used while performing any OS level operation by SQL Server process (sqlservr.exe). On the other hand, the account which is connecting to SQL Server will have it's own permission in Server/Database provided via Logins/Users.

SQL Server 2008 R2 SP3 install error - caspol.exe Fatal error
When I attempt to install sql server 2008 r2 sp3 I get caspol.exe - Fatal error. Unable to load Jit Compiler:(mscorjit.dll): file may be missing or corrupt. Please check or rerun setup. Then after I click ok I get the Microsoft Windows
popup that says Microsoft .NET Framework CAS Policy Manager has stopped working. This is on a Windows 2008 Enterprise Server, service pack 2. I am wondering if my .NET Framework had become corrupt on the server. Any ideas? This has
been on a stable production sql server that has been running fine for many years.
Thanks for reading my post.
Joe SitverUnable to load Jit Compiler:(mscorjit.dll): file may be missing or corrupt. Please check or rerun setup.
Hi Joe,
Mscorjit.dll (Microsoft .NET Runtime Just-In-Time Compiler) is a component of Web developing applications and the most prominent program that makes use of this file is the Microsoft.NET Framework.
The most common reason of the above error is that there is an improper installation/update of your .NET framework. Please
use this
tool to repair .NET framework. If the issue persists, you might need to uninstall and reinstall your
.NET framework.
