SQL Server 2012 with SP2 Slipstream ISO images do not install SP2

We see the same issue as described here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2783963
when using the newly posted en_sql_server_2012_enterprise_edition_with_service_pack_2_x64_dvd_4351704.iso from MSDN.
We end up with SQL Server 2012 RTM instead of SP2 and have to run a second pass to install SP2 on top of RTM.
Is this a confirmed problem with an expected solution soon to follow?

Hi,
As per the link this seems to me a known issue. I cannot 100 % say because I have seen/faced this issue with
SP1 and you mentioned SP2. I would always suggest to install RTM only there is option to un select SP2 during installing.
Well thank you for reporting I guess Microsoft would take this as feedback.
Can you share setup log files please just for analysis

  • Trying to install features for PowerPivot and Reporting Services from SQL Server 2012 with SP2, but no access to key?

    Hi,
I had installed SQL Server 2012 PowerPivot on WFE and App Server. This is test farm with 1 WFE and 1 APP and 1 SQL Server.
However, we had a heap of issues with Windows Claims Authentication and PowerPivot - issues were raised with "unable to make a connection to EntityDataSource" . Now we uninstalled the PowerPivot and Reporting Services features and wanted to install
with the SQL Server 2012 with SP2. Originally SP2 was installed seperately and we had read there had been issues.
Anyway on trying to install the features again using the SQL Server 2012 with SP2 iso I get
    Could not open key UNKNOWN\Components
I don't want to start deleting or changing permissions as quite dodgey. What is this key for anyway and how do I resolve my issue.
    Thanks.
    John.

    Hi John,
Did you meet the error message during the process of configuring the PowerPivot for SharePoint?
If yes, I suppose that the existing features or components have not been uninstalled completely.
I recommend to delete the two keys left when uninstalling the PowerPivot and please make a copy of the registry keys before you delete the two keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\15.0\WSS\ServiceProxies\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Sharepoint.Integration.MidTierServiceProxy
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\15.0\WSS\ServiceProxies\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Sharepoint.Integration.MidTierServicea
Please check the steps in the link below to see if there anything wrong when you uninstalling the PowerPivot and then re-install it to see how it works:

  • SQL server 2012 with SP2 for hosting VMM 2012 R2 DB server

    Hi,
I would like to implement System Center 2012 R2 Operation Manager, VMM and Configuration Manager.
I have proposed to my customer two MSSQL Server 2012 Box, one for SCOM/VMM DB server and another one for SCCM (SCCM DB and SCVMM DB cannot be on the same computer).
But I read on Microsoft web site that only SQL Server 2012 SP1 are supported for VMM DB server and SQL Server 2012 SP2 is supported for SCOM DB server.
So my question is: Can I deploy one box SQL server 2012 with SP2 for hosting VMM 2012 R2 DB server ?  if not, When SQL Server 2012 SP2 will be supported for VMM 2012 R2 DB server ?

  • Difference between database features - SQL Server 2008 R2 navtive vs SQL Server 2012 with SQL Server 2008 compatibility set?

I am investigating the impact of upgrading from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012. To reduce the impact of the upgrade, I am planning to restore / create our application database onto SQL Server 2012 with compatibility level 100 (SQL Server 2008 and
    SQL Server 2008 R2).
Are there any differences in feature support for database running in native mode on SQL Server 2008 R2 vs a database installed on SQL Server 2012 with compatibility level 100 set?

Are there any differences in feature support for database running in native mode on SQL Server 2008 R2 vs a database installed on SQL Server 2012 with compatibility level 100 set?
Yes there can be difference and impact there are few features deprecated in SQL Server 2012 you must be aware about that. Please see

  • SQL Server 2012 with SP1 on Windows 8.1 Pro

Can I install "out-of-the-box" SQL Server 2012 with Service Pack 1 Enterprise Edition or SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition on my Windows 8.1 VM?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
SQL Server 2012 SP1 is fully supported by Windows 8.1, and there is no need to install any SQL update for the installation.
Enterprise Edition is not supported on client operating systems like Windows 8.1 but setup won’t prevent you from installing.
Developer Edition is fully supported on client operating systems.
    Hope this helps.

  • SCCM 2012 SP1 is Running on SQL Server 2012 with NO CU

I am working in an org that has SCCM 2012 SP1, it is and always has been running on SQL Server 2012 RTM, with NO CU installed it seems (judging by the file versions 11.0.2100.60, which are not the same as as documented here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2703275).
    sigh..........
So before I upgrade to R2 I will ensure I installed SP2 and CU3 onto SQL Server.
However, I am concerned about WHY SCCM 2012 SP1 requires SQL Server 2012 CU2 as a minimum and what damage may have been done as a result of this configuration?
Are there any actions that can be performed as remediation or health check?
    Can anyone speculate?

However, I am concerned about WHY SCCM 2012 SP1 requires SQL Server 2012 CU2 as a minimum
Because the Microsoft product group decided it that way. All supported SQL versions are listed here:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682077.aspx#BKMK_SupConfigSQLDBconfig
Damage? Hard (impossible) to tell. You would have seen errors in various components if there were problems.

  • Issue installing SQL Server 2012(with SP1) on windows 7 Error result: -2067529718

When running the installation, it suddenly stops without any error popup.
I ran the installation from the command prompt and this is what I get:
An error occurred during the SQL Server 2012 Setup operation.
    Error result: -2067529718
    Result facility code: 1220
    Result error code: 10
I recently uninstalled SQL Server 2012 SP1, because the SQL server service was not starting up, it would just hang in there with no response. I tried many things to get that issue fixed, finally I decided to uninstall and start fresh but I couldn't since
I was getting an error stating that I needed Windows 7 SP1(which was already installed). I downloaded the
microsoft fix it tool which fixed the issue.
On the control panel/Programs and features, I still see that SQL Server 2012 is listed if I click to uninstall again it tells me:
An error occurred while trying to uninstall Microsoft SQL Server 2012. it may have already been uninstalled. do you want to remove Microsoft SQL Server 2012 from the Programs and features list?
if I click yes, eventually it will be listed again.
currently I'm not able to install SQL server again and besides the info provided there are not error messages (I also copied the installation files to disk).
UPDATE: it appears that the sql server was not completely removed from the system, I still see listed the SQL server(SQLExpress) and server browser services on the SQL server configuration manager.
    Thanks.

    1) First Reboot your server and try again for the installation.
    2) If first fail again than Take a backup of Registry first for safe side and then delete the entries of SQL server 2012 if found take a reboot again and try to install again.
One more thing if installation created any file then move/Delete that also before installation.

  • Access 2007 ADP to SQL Server 2012 with extended protection

    Hello,
I have a Access 2007 ADP client connecting to an sql server 2012. This works fine with standard security configuration, but when I activate extended protection on the SQL server, the Access client cannot connect to the server. I am using integrated security
with a domain user and get the error message
"Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication."
In sql server logfile I find:
"SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x80090346, state 46 while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. Reason: The Channel Bindings from this client are missing or do not match the established Transport
    Layer Security (TLS) Channel".
Is there any "easy" solution other than developing a new client based on an up to date Office version or Dot.Net?
    Regards,
      charles-f

Well, I have no problem connecting to the sql server from my pc using ssms with my domain account. I have also sucessfully create a odbc connection using the "SQL Server Native Client 11.0" driver and my domain account. My account is in a trusted
domain, so this seems not to be the problem.
To me it rather looks like if Access is using an old driver which does not support the tls encryption required by the extended protection settings.

  • SQL Server 2012 with Visual Studio 2013 with SSIS/Integration services project?

I wanted to build an integration services project to import data from multiple sources using a vendor's API.
I wish I could recall how I got to the point where I was able to build one and have it run successfully, but I had to install so many things that I honestly don't remember.
However, I noticed my PC booting really slowly after that, and I saw that I had components of VS 2010, VS 2012 and VS 2013 installed, along with SQL Server 2008 and 2012.  So I uninstalled a bunch of stuff, hoping to get to where I had only the most
current versions of all, that were compatible with my corporate environment.  So I was aiming for Visual Studio 2013 (Premium, I think) and SQL Server 2012.
Took me 2 days.  Now I'm at the point where I think - and I'm here to learn if I'm correct - that I cannot get an oData Source component into my project and use VS 2013 IF I want to stick with Sql Server 2012.  Is that correct?
I get very confused when trying to determine how the acronyms relate:  SSIS, SSDT, SSDT-BI, etc.

    Hi Anonymous11847,
SSDT: Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools for Visual Studio 2010, it contains Business Intelligence project templates for Analysis Services, Integration Services, and Reporting Services that support Visual Studio 2010. This can be installed when SQL Server is
installed. It supports various SQL Server versions as follows:
SSAS projects can target SQL Server 2012 or lower
SSRS projects can target SQL Server 2012 or lower
SSIS projects can target only SQL Server 2012
SSDT-BI for VS 2012: Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2012, it contains Business Intelligence project templates for Analysis Services, Integration Services, and Reporting Services that support Visual Studio 2012.
This needs to be separately downloaded and installed. It supports various SQL Server versions as follows:
SSAS projects can target SQL Server 2012 or lower
SSRS projects can target SQL Server 2012 or lower
SSIS projects can target only SQL Server 2012
SSDT-BI for VS 2013: Microsoft SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013, it contains Business Intelligence project templates for Analysis Services, Integration Services, and Reporting Services that support Visual Studio 2013.
This needs to be separately downloaded and installed. It supports various SQL Server versions as follows:
SSAS projects can target SQL Server 2014 or lower
SSRS projects can target SQL Server 2014 or lower
SSIS projects can target only SQL Server 2014
So if the SQL Server version is SQL Server 2012, we should install SSDT or SSDT-BI for VS2012 to create SSIS project.

  • After Installing SQL Server 2012 Service Pack the RDL reports do not work

I installed SQL Server 2012 Service Pack on backEnd sharepoint and also on BI Server that host Reporting Service.(Before installation everything was working properly)
After this installation the RDL reports do not open and I receive this error message.
The permissions granted to user 'domain\username' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)
I also receive the same error message on changing DataSource, Parameters and subscription.
I should mention that, I am using Reporting Services in the Integration Mode. I want to open and modify RDL reports from SharePoint and inside the SharePoint Document Library.

    Hi Hedayat,
    Thanks for posting your issue,
To solve this problem you have to grant your SQL Reporting Service Application Pool
Account (whatever is running your SQL Service Application, see Central Admin -> Manage Service Application -> SQL Server Reporting Services)
Full Control to the web application that report is being deployed to in your particular case.
Or you could just use the powershell command below:
    $webApp = Get-SPWebApplication –Identity http://yoursharepointapp
    $webApp.GrantAccessToProcessIdentity(“domain\SSRSAccount”)
Also, check out below mentioned URLs for more details and fixes of this issue

  • Applying Windows Server fixes to a windows server 2012 R2 server with sql server 2012 with an AG

I need to apply windows updates and I want to understand the proper method since I have 2 nodes using an AG. I see a distinction made to the process for sql server updates versus os updates but os updates seem to point to a cross-cluster migration document.
But that document seems to be talking about moving from windows server 2008 to windows 2012. Can't I just follow the method for sql server rolling upgrades?

    Hi David,
According to your description, you want to apply Windows updates in availability group. I recommend you to manually apply the updates instead of using windows updates. Do you want to apply SQL Server updates or operating system-related updates?
If you just want to update SQL Server, you can follow the rolling update process. For how to follow rolling update process to update SQL Server instance in availability group, please refer to the article:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn178483(v=sql.110).aspx.
However, if you want to apply operating system-related updates, please download the

  • Sleep and hibernation is working on Server 2012 with started hypervisor! I do not know why...

    Hi,
I enabled Hyper-V role in the Microsoft Windows Server 2012 on testing computer (PC with i7 CPU and 16GB RAM). I found very strange behavior. The sleep mode was enabled and after command “powercfg /hibernation on” the hibernation is also working.
I tested sleep (S3) and hibernation with started hypervisor and with running virtual machine. I tested sleep and hibernation triggered by power button and even with time-out that was set in the Power Options (I set sleep after 1 minute and
later hibernate after 1 minute and wait).
Sleep and hibernation is working! I do not understand why. Sleep and hibernation should be functional only on Client Hyper-V on Windows 8 and not on the Server 2012.

    Hi Ben,
I have nearly exactly the same Problem as Relef Revil.
    I have Lenovo T510 Notebook with Core I7 and a Lenovo T420 Notebook with a CoreI5.
On my T510 S3 Sleep works perfectly with Hyper-V Role. On my T420 Sleep is disabled due to Hypervisor.
If I uninstall Hyper-V Role then Sleep works again as expected.
So, from a Little simple perspective, I Looks like this is a Hyper-V Thing or Problem.
I have als updated to the latest BIOS and latest Intel HD Graphics 3000 Drivers on this Win 2012R2 Maschine.
Also I have installed all possbile latest Versions of all other devices.
Could you probably give me an idea where to search for a solution.
So, what is the logic why Hyper-V disables sleep, when Sleep worked before?
I assumed that Hyper-V and Sleep ist generally possible on Win2012R2, especially when Sleep works perfectly when Hyper-V Role is not installed.
    Kind Regards

  • Questions in regard to SP2 for SQL Server 2012

We have upgraded from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012 SP2.  We are having issues that were supposedly fixed in previous cumulative updates to SP1 of SQL Server.
Once such issue is the Analysis Deployment Wizard Crashes as mentioned in the URL below: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2809127  I checked the XML file and it reflects that the article mentions, but the problem still persists.
We also have issues with Reporting Services where when you run a report that has lots of items, the expand option does not work, gives the error invalid parameter.
Is there a way to verify that Service Pack 2 included all of the cumulative updates and security updates?
    DJ

    Hello,
Please use the discovery report as explained on the following article:
    http://www.sqlcoffee.com/SQLServer2012_0014.htm
If you installed SP2 the SQL Server version should be 11.00.5058.0.
Installing SP2 does not guarantee you have all the cumulatives updates of SP1. Install CU1 for SP2 to have all updates applied.

    Hope this helps.
