SQL Server Database backup

Hi Team ,
I have SQL Cluster 2012 server running with Couple of Critical data base instance . Each instance installed in different drive.
One of my application database is having mdf of size 1 Gb and ldf is 250 GB . Database is set to full recovery model.
Now I want to change recovery model to simple and want to shrink the los also. before than I want to take database backup.
I have 50 GB space left in drive .
i want to take full database backup on same drive .please let me know how much space i need on that drive to take full backup.

There are two options for you here
1. Take transaction log backup and try shrinking the log file but you might have to take multiple transaction log backups to actually shrink the log file
2. If you are switching from full recovery to simple you dont need to take full backup reason is switching from full to simple breaks log chain so its better to have Transaction log backup and like Praveen suggested if you take transaction log backup with
compression it likely it would fit in free space. But you have to try.
3. This you have to do on your own risk: (If backup of log in point 2 fails) I dont think changing from full recovery to simple would cause any
data loss. So you can switch to simple shrink logs switch back to full and schedule frequent log backups
Reason why log grew so much because you did not took sufficient transaction log backups. So create maintenance plan which would take frequent log backups also if you dont want point in time recovery for this database let it be in simple recovery

No it will not cause any issue to SQL server database.Backup request reads data from disk using separate thread you just killed the thread.

            1) First of all I gone to /oracle/<SID>/102_64/dbs/init<SID>.sap and I changed the settings backup_dev_type = disk
             backup_root_dir = /home/db0/test/sateesh/DB0backup
             stage_root_dir = /home/db0/test/sateesh/DB0backup
           2) Then I gone to BRTOOLS I changed to disk there I scheduled Online backup
           3) Then I came to SAP DB13 I want to take daily backup. But the backup is not going properly what to do any mistake I had done

SQL Server Database backup and restore issue

I am trying to take a backup of the database and using restore to create its copy on the same server
Basically I am following this approach

Using the restore command is giving me the following error

LogicalName cant be same for mdf and ldf. verify again with FILELISTONLY. Also you have put wrong logical name

Full Database Backup in DB13 for MS SQL Server databases

Hello,
We have some SAP systems using the MS SQL Server database. I want to know if it is possible to setup the Full Database Backup option in transaction DB13 to store the files in a hard disk space.
I already did this type of configuration in SAP systems in Oracle databases and for this I used the init<SID>.sap where we can put all the configuration, for instance the disk path where we want to save the backup files! But for MS SQL Server databases, in DB13, I don´t know how to do that, when I add the "Full Database Backup" option in DB13, this show me some options but only for tape, but I don´t want to store the backup files in tapes, I want to store/save the files on the server disk itself or else to an external disk but I don´t see where I can set this way of storage!
This is what you see in DB13 (when using a MS SQL Server database) in "Full Database Backup" and as you see I only have options for TAPE not for a disk or other type of storage! How can I do that? (if that is possible):

Sorry for the delay of my answer! Many thanks for that tip, it helps a lot and it solve the last error/problem that I reported here, in fact, the problem was we had named the device with two words containing a space. So we removed that space from the backup device (in SQL management studio) with one word only and the job runs successfully without any errors!
It works in Development and Quality systems but in our Production system (AM1) the Full backup option in DB13 stopped with the following error, in fact the error is on verification of backup, it means that the Full backup finished with success, but when it does the backup verification, the job in DB13 stops with an error, the following one:

How to create a .mdf SQL Server database from a Data-Tier Application file that has data?

This is a noob question, though I do use SQL Server databases all the time with Entity Framework when I code in C# using Visual Studio 2013. The development environment is found below at [A]. I am trying to make a clone of a SQL Server 2008 R2
database (.mdf) that exists online. I can read, connect and work with this database in Visual Studio 2013, but I wish to make a local copy of the database, as an .MDF file. Somewhere in my notes I have a way of creating a local copy from
an online database when using Visual Studio but I forgot how (it seems, reviewing my notes, that it deals with ADO.NET which is deprecated in Visual Studio 2013 these days, or so it seems). So I'm looking for another way. What I did was create
(or export) a "Data-Tier Application File" from the online SQL Server database, with data, and it seems to have worked in that this Data-Tier Application file exists on my hard drive and seems to have data in it ("SQL Server Replication Snapshot"
is the format it seems). It contains skeleton code to create a database, but when I tried to execute it with SQL Server 2014 Management Studio, I got a bunch of errors.
So my question is:
1) Can I somehow create a .MDF SQL Server Database from an Data-Tier Application file that has data? What tool do I use? I saw this link, http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/2639.how-to-use-data-tier-application-import-and-export-with-a-windows-azure-sql-database.aspx
and it relates to Azure, but is there a tool for C#Visual Studio 2013, standalone?

to read, update, delete the online database file, but strangely not to download it (the service I use has a tool for backup, but not for download).
3) same question as 2), but for Visual Studio 2013? I don't think so, since I notice none of the templates even mentions ADO.NET anymore, but instead they go with Entity Framework. Using EF I can of course do anything I want with the online database
(CRUD), but it remains online. Maybe there's a switch to make a local copy? I guess I could write a short program to suck all the data out of the online database and put it into a new, duplicate database having the same tables, that I create on
my localhost, but my question here is if there's an easier way than this, maybe a tool or command I can run from inside Visual Studio?
Any advice on any of the above questions is appreciated.

"2. what do you mean by online file?" - I mean the SQL Server database file is on a remote web server that I rent from, but I am not the administrator of. I can access my database using SQL Server Authentication, but nothing more.

SQL Server Database - Transaction logs growing largely with Simple Recovery model

Hello,
There is SQL server database on client side in production environment with huge transaction logs.
Requirement :
1. Take database backup
2. Transaction log backup is not required. - so it is set to Simple recovery model.
I am aware that, Simple Recovery model also increases the transaction logs same as in Full Recovery model as given on below link.

Last week, this transaction log became of 1TB size and blocked everything on the database server.
How to over come with this situation?
PS : There are huge bulk uploads to the database tables.
Current Configuration :
1. Simple Recovery model
2. Target Recovery time : 3 Sec
3. Recovery interval : 0
4. No SQL Agent job schedule to shrink database.
5. No other checkpoints created except automatic ones.
Can anyone please guide me to have correct configuration on SQL server for client's production environment?
Please let me know if any other details required from server.

What do you mean by one batch ?
1. Number of rows to be inserted at a time ?
2. or Size of data in one cell does matter here.
As in my case, I am clubbing together all the data in one xml (on c# side) and inserting it as one record. Data is large in size, but only 1 record is inserted.
Is it a good idea to shrink transaction log periodically, as it is not happening itself in simple recovery model.

Shrinking is bad activity yu should not shrink log files regularly, in rare case if you want to recovery space you may do it.
Have manual chekpoints in Bulk insert operation.
I cannot tell upfront what should be batch size but you can start with 1/4 th of what you are currently inserting.
Most important what does below query return for database
select log_reuse_wait_desc from sys.databases where name='db_name'
The value it returns is what stopping the log from getting cleared and reused.
What is version and editon of SQl server we are talking about. What is output of
select @@version

SAP ECC6.0 cannot connect to SQL Server Database after recreating DB server

We had a disaster with our ECC 6.0 Development system a few days ago. The system is called “DEV”. The SQL Server database server got wiped out and we didn’t have a backup. Luckily, we did have a backup of the database. Our system engineers rebuilt the server and our DBA reinstalled SQL Server and restored the database. The database came up fine, but when we try to start SAP, it fails. “R3trans –d” also fails. The database is SQL Server 2008R2 10.50.2769. The OS is Windows Server 2008R2.
We verified that the “devadm” and “SAPServiceDEV” accounts have permissions on the on the server. We set the following Environment Variables for the devadm account on the database server:
DBMS_TYPE = mss
MSSQL_DBNAME = DEV
MSSQL_SCHEMA = dev
MSSQL_SERVER = <database server name>
SAPLOCALHOST = <database server name>
SAPSYSTEMNAME = DEV
We also set the following Registry Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/SAP/DEV
Type:     REG_SZ
Value:   AdmUser
String:   <database server name>\devadm
We didn’t install any kind of SAP software on the database server.
Is there any kind of SAP components we need to install on the database server? Do we need to run the SAP installer on the database server to get everything setup correctly? I looked at another one of our SQL Server database servers and it has SAP Management Console installed and there is a C:\Program Files\SAP\hostcntl folder. I don't know what that is or it has anything to do with SAP being able to connect to the database.

No. You cannot simply import binary data files from a 3rd party database directly into Oracle.
You can use bcp on SQL-Server to unload the data to CSV and then use Oracle's SQL*Loader to load it.
You can run a SQL-Server database instance and an Oracle database instance, and use a heterogeneous database link from Oracle (working via ODBC) to connect to SQL-Server - and use SQL statements to pull object definitions and data from SQL-Server into Oracle.

Move SQL Server database for App Controller

I need to migrate our App Controller server to another SQL Server.
I have copied the relevant SQL Server database. How can I reconfigure App Controller to use this new database?

To minimize the risk of data loss, I recommend the following steps:
Export the AES encryption key
from your existing App Controller installation
Make sure you have a backup of the App Controller database
On a spare VM, install a new instance of App Controller and connect to the new SQL server (you'll need the AES key from step 1).
Verify that the new instance of App Controller works correctly with the new SQL server (this will verify that you have a good copy of the App Controller database on the new SQL server)
Uninstall the original App Controller
On the original App Controller server, reinstall and point to the new database (you'll need the AES key from step 1)
Verify that this instance of App Controller works correctly with the new SQL server
There isn't a supported way to just change the database used by an existing install.

Can Oracle view refer a table in Sql Server Database

Can a view created in Oracle database refer a table created in SQL Server database. If yes, how do we do it. Code will be very help full.
Again, if yes does it require any special software and what would be price of that software.

You would need to configure Oracle Heterogeneous Connectivity to create a database link to the SQL Server system. This can either be done via the Oracle Transparent Gateway for Microsoft SQL Server, which retails for $15,000 per server at http://store.oracle.com or by configuring Oracle Generic Connectivity and using ODBC to go after the SQL Server data. Depending on the operating system you run Oracle on, there may be a free (or cheap) ODBC driver for SQL Server that could be used.

Trigger to populate table in sql server database

Maybe this isn't the right board to post this in, but here goes:
We have an Oracle 9i database, with a table that get's populated with a new record every minute or so.
We need to take some values from the newly inserted record and populate a table in a sql server database instantly. The people requesting this have not said as much, but I am thinking deletes and updates would need to be the same.
How would it be best to do this? My first thought was a trigger on the oracle table that populates the sql server table via heterogeneous db link.
Any other ideas?

How can I connect to SQL server database thru local network by using JSP?

I'm currently doing a project by using JSP..And I need to display record from the SQL Server database in our school's local network. May I know how can I do that? How can I write the code so that I can able to access the SQL Server databsase Throught school's network by using JSP? Please tell me step by step how can I do that. I'm using Tomcat 4.1 as Web Server. And I had J2SE and J2EE installed in my computer.

first you have to establish a ODBC DSN on your computer,
that connects to the database...you can do that from your control pannel.
i assume that the TOMCAT server is residing on your computer....(if the webserver is in other computer then you would have to create a System DSN on the data sources ODBC option in the settings>control pannel of that machine)
then you can use that DSN name to connect to the data base from the class file....for further assistance on how to create the class that access the tutorials in sun site.

How can I get the data array from SQL Server Database?

Hi,
I can write a data array(2D)into a table of my SQL Server Database. The data array was writen to a column with image type. I know a data array is transformed a binary string when writing into database, but I dont know how to get the data array when I fetch the binary string from database.
My question is:
How to transform the binary string into data array? which vi's should I use? I have tried unflatten from string but failed.
Any response is appriciated.

In order to use Unflatten from string you first need to Flatten it
before writing it. Also depending on the database driver, the returned
data may actually not be binary but Hexadecimal encoded ASCII which you
would first have to decode to binray.

I'm new to LiveCycle designer. I have designed a PDF form in LC designer ES2, which suppose to take a personnel number and retrieve the personnel information from a SQL server database. Currently its working fine with XML data and a search button, but I need to securly connect to a database through web service. I know how to connect to a wsdl file through designer. What I need is a wsdl file to connect the form to database. For this purpose, is there any WSDL code to use as the web service?
