  • SQL Server licence

    Hi All,
    How does the SQL Server licence works if we plan to install/upgrade Enterprise Portal?
    Do we need to buy the software separately? Or does it come with the Portal?
    Thanks,
    Adalbert

    Adalbert
    It is also possible to buy the software as part of your SAP license agreement. You would pay a percentage of your total licensing for SAP. This would be a DB runtime license that allows you to run SBX,DEV,QA & PRD database servers BUT no other software is allowed to use these database servers. Check into licensing options. It depends on where else you use DB software in your organization...

  • SQL server licencing for PABX system

    Hi All. I'm looking for some guidance on how to correctly licence a SQL server for use as part of a PABX system. The PABX system supports 14 end users with a similar number of devices. As such, can I licence this server on a CAL basis for either 14 users
    or 14-odd devices or do I need to licence per core?
    Basically, are the devices in this instance the 14 configured phones or do I need to count every person who phones in as a device or user as well?

    Since the question is a license issue, you can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist, and you can get more detail information from there. You can also visit

  • VM - How do I install sql server 2014 developer edition using my MSDN licence

    If I download it from MSDN, there is only a disk image. The .exe downloads are for the Express edition.

    My advice is don't install the image with SQL Server pre-installed as it will burn through your Azure credits at eye watering speed since you are paying for the SQL Server licence. As Manesh
    says once downloaded you can just double click the ISO and it will mount and open an Explorer window automatically. Only Windows 8 / 2012 onwards though IIRC.

  • SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) Pricing (2014)

    I'd like to know what would cost to use SSRS on Azure. As Windows Azure SQL Reporting will be discontinued on 10/31/2014, I tried to find licensing options for SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) running on Windows Azure Virtual Machines (VM). I guess
    I need to purchase a VM on Azure. But what other licenses are needed? Do I need a separate SQL Server licence if I already have Windows Azure SQL Database? Is there also a price for using SSRS on a VM?
    Can please provide the alternatives with pricing or a link with this information.
    Thank you.

    hi Martin,
    Base on my understanding, if we use predefined image (included sql server), we don't need use license , see this toturail (http://blog.aditi.com/cloud/hosting-sql-reporting-service-on-azure-virtual-machine/
    ). Or if we want install sql server on azure VM, we need purchase the license of sql server. If you only use SSRS on VM, I think you could only purchase slq server license. I recommend you refer to this page (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/gg430130.aspx#bkmk_new
    ) and this Compare licensing fees using the pricing calculator .
    If I misunderstood, please let  me know.

  • SQL Server plug in licence???

    Hi,
    Do you need a licence to deploy the SQL Server plug in for grid?
    Ive looked in the Oracle price list http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/technology-price-list.pdf (is this the price list for 10g or 11g?) and wondered if it was either
    System plug-in for Non Oracle databases
    Managent pack for non oracle middleware
    If one of these are the correct ones then at what point do you have to licence? can you just have the agent deployed to monitor the server?
    Licencing is so confusing

    Hi,
    We have the same problem to evaluate the cost for Grid Control implementation.
    For System Monitoring Plug-in for Non Oracle Databases, we have to pay USD 1,800 + 396.00 Support Per Processor.
    Do we have to take account of Grid Control server processors or all SQL server processors ?
    The problem is the same for "System Monitoring Plug-Ins for Non-Oracle Middleware"
    Thanks

  • SQL Server 2012 software and licencing

    Hi folks,
    We've purchased some per core licences for a SQL 2012 install.
    When I try to install SQL 2012 I get asked to put in a licence key or choose evaluation, but all we have is paperwork proving the purchase of the licences, we were told we wouldn't be provided with a key.
    The only way I know of to install the software without needing a key is if I download a copy from MSDN.
    Am I OK to use an MSDN copy in production if we have the paper licences or should we be using a different software source?
    If we can't are there copies of the SQL software available that doesn't need a key and is specifically for the above situation?
    Thanks for any help on this,
    Regards,
    CJ

    Hello,

  • Licencing SQL Server Per Core on Multiple Nodes with different CPU per Host

     Greetings,
    I would like to know what kind of licencing I should do in this architecture:
    Cluster with 4 Nodes
    Node 1: 12 Cores;
    Node 2: 12 Cores;
    Node 3: 16 Cores;
    Node 4: 16 Cores;
    Having 4 Instances licences by core:
    Instance01 and Instance02 are installed at node 1 and node 2;
    Instance03 and Instance04 are installed at node 3 and node 4;
    They share the same windows cluster;
    We want to licence the 4 nodes per core (EE)
    We should licencing 2 * 12 Cores + 2 * 16 cores or 4*16 cores licence?
    There is any reference to support?
    Thank you in advance,
    João B Martins

    Hi,
    if instance01 runs on node1 and instance02 runs at node2 (i.e. active-active cluster) you have to license all cores so buy 12 packs of 2 cores each of SQL Server 2014 EE.
    if instance03 runs on node3 and instance04 runs at node4 (i.e. active-active cluster) you have to license all cores so buy 16 packs of 2 cores each of SQL Server 2014 EE.
    this is the worst scenario 12+16=28 license.
    if may also deploy an active-passive cluster (i.e. instance01 and instance02 running, in normal condition, all in the node01, the same behaviour with inst03 and04) you can buy half the license. In this case you have to buy SA to have rights for running the
    passive node.
    The key is if the CPUs on the active node are able to do the job. Because the cost of EE license is cheaper to buy a most powerful CPU than buy more EE license.

  • Licencing of SQL Server on Azure VM

    hi
    If i install SQL server on Azure VM on a small instance which provides 1 core.
    Since the licences for SQL server are core based how many licenses will i need to get it installed
    Regards
    Krishna

    Hi Krishna,
    SQL Server in Virtual Environments is licensed in minimum 4 cores. 1 license cover 2 cores so you need 2 license for SQL Server.

  • Help! Licence for SQL Server 2008 VM on Windows 2012

    I am confused by latest Microsoft Virtual server licence for SQL Server 2008.
    We have a Hyper-V host running Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter. Displayed in its Task Manager, it has 16 cores and 32 logical processors (with hyper-threading turned on). A SQL Server VM is running on this host with 10 Virtual processors (showing from Hper-V
    Manager). The SQL Server edition is SQL Server 2008 Standard.
    We are using "Per Core Licensing Model". Now, the question is how many licences we need to purchase for the above SQL Server?
    There are "SQL Server 2008 Licensing Guide", "Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Virtualization Licensing Guide" and "Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Licensing Guide". But none of them covers this scenario, which is running SQL Server 2008 on
    Windows 2012 Hyper-V host Server.
    Could you please provide me your opinion: Should I license 10 cores for the SQL Server VM or license 5 cores (because the hyper-threading on physical server) ? Thank you very much in advance!

    Hi,
    Its best to ask all licensing related question to Licensing expert. This is technical forum and you wont find any licensing expert here. Licensing is complex and for accurate answer you must speak to MS Licensing specialist of your region
    Please mark this reply as answer if it solved your issue or vote as helpful if it helped so that other forum members can benefit from it
    My Technet Articles
    @Shanky: The question is not related to licensing models but rather if it's required to re-install SQL Server when changing the licence model. Please re-read the question.
    As you most probably know, during the installation process there's not a single step related to verify licencing. Also, starting with SQL Server 2005, SQL Server does not track any licence information.
    Therefore, to answer the original (technical) question doesn't require to involve a Licensing expert.
    LMU92 thats always my stand whether I know or not, and this is not forum for licensing question so even if I know a bit I always ask people to get double checked with MS licensing expert.
    Like even if I know oracle I would always ask user to direct his questions to Oracle forum rather than giving him answer this is how forum works where I don't have authority i would refrain from answering and would direct it to correct place.

  • Licencing of Windows 8.1, SQL Server and Visual Studio

    1. Windows 8 (OEM Version)
        a. Is it legal to re-install Windows 8 OEM version on a PC (this might
    be required because of formatting of PC hard disk)? Is there any upper limit on how many times a Windows 8 OEM version can be re-installed

        b. Can I continue to use same Windows 8 OEM version even after upgrading

    2. SQL Server (Developer and Express) Version:
       a. Your site mentions that SQL Server Developer edition can be used for

        a. Is it legal to use Visual Studio Express Edition for software development
    purpose in  a software consultancy?
    I had emailed this query to [email protected] yesterday but I have not received any reply.

    This question is a bit broad for a forum post. What have you tried and where does it fail? This code will give a list of files in an app folder. It might get you started: [c# code, but should be easy to translate to VB]
    public async Task<List<string>> GetFileListFromFolder() {
    List<string> fileList = new List<string>();
    StorageFolder storageFolder = await Package.Current.InstalledLocation.GetFolderAsync(@"myFolder\");
    foreach (StorageFile fl in await storageFolder.GetFilesAsync())
    fileList.Add(fl.Name);
    return fileList;

  • Farm Configuration SQL Server 2012 - Different licences

    Hello!
    Is it possible to run the following farm configuration:
    SSRS Server 1 ( SQL Server 2014 Enterprise Edition)
    SSRS Server 2 ( SQL Server 2014 Enterprise Edition)
    SSRS Server 3 ( SQL Server 2014 BI Edition)
    SSRS Database is hosted on Server 1.
    Thank you for helping!

    Hi StefanKindler,
    According to your description, you want to configure a scale-out deployment with different edition SQL Server. Right?
    In Reporting Services, if we want to configure such a cluster environment for load balancing, the SQL Server on each server should be the same edition. Please refer to the links below:
    Configuring Reporting Services for Scale-Out Deployment
    Configure a Report Server on a Network Load Balancing Cluster
    If you have any question, please feel free to ask.
