SQLITE_ERROR message; Aperture hangs
Getting the following error message (visible in Console) regularly now. I recently imported a large batch of photos (over 1,500) and edited many of them. Aperture would periodically crash and hang while editing. Now I've finally finished the editing and am backing up to a vault; Aperture appears to have hung part way through the backup and for the last three hours has been regularly reporting the following (every ten seconds):
6/14/10 10:11:09 AM Aperture[172] NSExceptionHandler has recorded the following exception:
SQLITE_ERROR -- sqlite3_step
Stack trace: 0x7fff844eaa2c 0x7fff8863f0f3 0x7fff887bab47 0x7fff887baad4 0x10042facc 0x10026d268 0x10047f540 0x100479f30 0x100237688 0x100234b70 0x10146ea77 0x10147a5d1 0x101475170 0x101473579 0x7fff83458ead 0x7fff842308b6 0x7fff84230769
You may want to cancel the Vault operation, quit Aperture, restart Aperture while holding down the OPTION and COMMAND keys, and selecting the options sequentially to Repair Permissions, Repair the Database and Rebuild the Databsae (won’t take as long as it sounds). Hope then all goes well. If you didn’t get everything imported, import again but check the box “do not import duplicates on the right side. Good luck.

Aperture hangs creating previews
Since installing Leopard (a clean install then Migration Assistant to get my user across) I haven't been able to view slideshows, because Aperture hangs when it tries to create previews. The "Rendering previews for slideshow..." popup appears and it never moves. Clicking "Cancel" has no effect - I have to quit Aperture from the Dock.
As soon as I try to render the previews (and before I quit Aperture) the following message appears in the System log (/var/log/system.log):
Nov 26 09:34:34 mbp17 Aperture[552]: * -[NSLock unlock]: lock (<NSLock: 0x22f174e0> '(null)') unlocked from thread which did not lock it
Nov 26 09:34:34 mbp17 Aperture[552]: * Break on _NSLockError() to debug.
And on at least one occasion the following as well:
Nov 26 09:35:36 mbp17 Aperture[552]: * -[NSLock dealloc]: lock (<NSLock: 0x22f174e0> '(null)') deallocated while still in use
Nov 26 09:35:36 mbp17 Aperture[552]: * Break on _NSLockError() to debug.
I've tried all the obvious things, including removing preferences (plus removing all preferences, not just Aperture preferences), starting with a new Aperture library, reinstalling Aperture, and the only thing that worked was creating a new user that did nothing except Aperture. So it's some combination of Aperture, Leopard, and my user account.
Apple support was no help at all. They suggested it was probably a user preference somewhere and told me to recreate my user from scratch. That's a huge job, so I resisted it for a long time. But eventually I decided to bite the bullet and did so. It took many hours to complete the task. I tried it again immediately after recreating the user and it worked, but when I got everything else back working again such as Mail, calendar etc, I found it was failing again. This was not migrating the user, either, it was reinstalling everything and recreating preferences (with few exceptions - I copied over ~/Library/Mail, for example).
This is extremely annoying! Anyone else seen anything similar?

hi, allen
have you repaired permissions in safe mode and then restart osx and aperture?

I upgraded to Leopard a few weeks ago and was using Time Machine and included Aperture backups while Aperture was running. I've since read that there's a problem with this, so I stopped Time Machine backups of my Aperture Library.
But now, every time I try to edit text on a page of a book, Aperture hangs. If I type 25 characters, for example, it will lag behind... showing one character every 5 MINUTES or so until it catches up with my typing... which would take about two hours for the 25 characters. I have to force quit. I've tried restarting and repairing permissions. No help.
Do I have a corrupt library? If so, what do I do? I have 3 vaults, all created in the last day or two.Delete Aperture, open App Store > Purchases and download Aperture. This should fix your issue

Tried to buy Aperture 3 and got an error message Aperture can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because Mac OS X version 10.7.2 or later is required. You can update Mac OS X using Software Update. Problem is, I had already updated my IMac to Lion OS
iPhoto 9.3 requires OS X 10.7.4 now. You can use your actual version of iPhoto or upgrade to Lion (or wait to Mountain Lion)

Aperture hangs on import from iPhone or camera
Since a few weeks I can't import from my iPhone or digital camera anymore.
If I try to import Photos from my iPhone or camera Aperture hangs forever. The Photos should be imported as referenced ones to a folder on a network share on a Mac OS X Server. This works fine, if the Picture source is i.e. a memory card or a HDD. And it has been working with the iPohne and camera before.
What happens is, that Aperture creates a file like "..importing.IMG0815.JPG" with 0 Bytes in the target folder. And than it hangs.
From this point on there is a permanent network traffic, and reasonable CPU load on both Macs (the kernel_task on the client and the AppleFileServer task on the Server). If I delete the "..importing.IMG0815.JPG" file it is instantly recreated. This continues even if I kill the Aperture application. The only way to stop this is to unmount the Network Volume.
Does anyone has an idea what this may cause?sizzling badger wrote:
Aperture, Lightroom etc. are all designed to make use of direct import. They are safer than copying your files via the OS tools for the simple reason they access the cards read-only. If you use OS tools to copy then you are accessing the cards read-write which is far more dangerous if something goes wrong.
Culling your images during import saves time and disk space also. Copying your images directly and then importing is a WASTE OF YOUR TIME.
We disagree. Although such apps are indeed "designed" for direct import, my empirical observations since the earliest days of digital imagery have been that interacting indirectly using an app like Aperture is much, much less stable than directly interacting via Finder when properly done. One can peruse literally hundreds of digital image threads including this one to see overwhelming real-world evidence of what I am talking about. -
Aperture hangs on imports and other stability issues
My aperture will hang on imports, does not like me to do anything else at all when importing, lest it hang and if it hangs once and I force quit I have to restart the system to make it work again. I have had 5 crashes today and really PO'd. This is 1.5.6 and I am running 10.5.5.
Have you done anything to the files before importing them? In particular I'm thinking about giving them keywords through Bridge or LightRoom?
I have experienced Aperture hanging until force quit if I had done keywording to the (in my case) DNG's via Bridge / LightRoom prior to importing them into Aperture.

Aperture Hangs with Console Message
Hello All,
I can no longer get Aperture to run on my MBP. I upgraded to Leopard a couple of weeks ago and had Aperture 1.56 running sucessfully for 2 weeks or so. Then it started hanging up at the startup screen. I am not sure what to do next, possibly reinstall Aperture. Not sure. Does any one have any thoughts where to go next.
The Console showed the following message:
12/28/07 1:12:16 PM Aperture[368] * Assertion failure in -[NSMenuItem initWithTitle:action:keyEquivalent:], /SourceCache/AppKit/AppKit-949/Menus.subproj/NSMenuItem.m:182
12/28/07 1:12:16 PM Aperture[368] * NSRunLoop ignoring exception 'Exception in Aperture: Invalid parameter not satisfying: aString != nil
Thanks in advance for your comments and thoughts.
DickBTry moving your Aperture preferences file to one side (Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist) or create a temporary new user and see if Aperture starts when logged into that account.

Aperture hangs at Import (resolution)
At some point, every time I tried to import from any location, Aperture would hang, and I would have to Force Quit. The log files generated showed that a jpeg was corrupt, but even with an empty library I could get no further than showing the import pane on the left.
Nothing worked - trashing Aperture, rebuilding the catalog, nada. I finally was able to get things going again by deleting the prefs file: user/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist
This may have been related to the same lift & stamp issue discussed here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=3106463#3106463
I had not seen this symptom discussed anywhere else though.
Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.4.8)i had also the problem that aperture did not start again and hang.
my problem was that i removed some fonts from the library folder.
backed up the fonts again and aperture launched
maybe this helps? -
Error Message - "Aperture cannot access this library"
I'm using OS 10.5.7 and Aperture 2.1.3. I recently had an error message pop-up when I try to start Aperture that says, "Aperture cannot access this library. To use this library, make sure its file permissions are set correctly." Unfortunately, I can't seem to open up my library. Any ideas how to fix this or what is wrong? Thanks
Hello,
attached I would like to report how the problem solved.
1. I had 63 Minute Call to Apple Support and we are tring some things. Finally I Spend spend 1 day for testing.
2. Testing procedure:
A) I exported each project step by step
B) Than I deleted all appr. 50 projects in Aperture Library.
C) After that I Imported each project to Aperture back.
Result: 2 Project was corrupted, one of it was going well after export/import procedure how ever but the second ones error was constant appearing if I try to import it. The project consisting of 512 jpg files in total appr. 500MB.
The solution for this project:
I moved this jpg´s to waste bin und imported it from waste bin to Aperture again into a new project. Than I tested it again(Export/import) and it was fine.
For final check I delete my Aperture backup und start a new one.
Than start a compleate restoring from that last backup.
Every thing was fine, all project include albums or books are ok.
The pictures in the corrupted project was not imported by Aperture, they was created on a PC system(XP). Maybe that was the reason for the problem.
A friend sad, that windows use not the agreed standard for jpg´s.
I don´t know. So I´m happy all my books are back that is imported for a wedding photographer.
Have fun

Message mapping hangs when selecting communication channel
Hi Experts,
I have a strange problem. In message mapping, there is an RFC Lookup. For this RFC lookup, there is one parameter of type communication channel. I want to test this message mapping. So, I go to the Test tab and browse for all available communication channels. When I select a channel and click on Select, ESR hangs. I am not getting why this is happening. Please help me get rid of this problem.

Messages regularly hangs entire OS
My wife and I have almost identical machines: Mid 2009 MBP running 10.8.2. Several times a week, the Messages app causes the entire OS to hang until we force quit it. The second I force quit, everything is back to normal. I'm having trouble googling this because the word "messages" often brings up a discussion about the Mail app. I'm posting the errors here in case anyone can make heads or tails of it.

19 _dispatch_queue_invoke + 52 (libdispatch.dylib)Hi,
That extended log just is too much and does not make sense.
One thing I did spot.
Parent: launchd [139]
PID: 97262
Event: hang
From very early in the log (the Messages bit)
It list the Process ID as 97262
That was by no means the highest number I saw when skipping through (before I lost the will to live)
Example
Process: WebKitPluginAgent [97846]
Path: /System/Library/Frameworks/WebKit.framework/WebKitPluginAgent
I have Firefox, Messages app, Mail, Skitch and the Activity Monitor open and the Activity Monitor tell me the highest PID is only 4860
I launched iTunes and it went to 4728 with TuneUp starting up as well.
It would seem that you have many apps and items running and then Time Machine want to Back Up (that's in the Log) and then you seem to be doing something with Messages (it pops up first).
The Activity Monitor may give clues in both the CPU button at the bottom and the CPU column in addition to the list of PIDs about how much is generally running.

I've seen this same problem in other posts, but the solutions seems suspect to me. People are seeing this on both Mac and Windows syncs. The "data" that is being sync'd seems to change for each person, and in fact is different each time I try. Sometimes it is "data" that is being sync'd, sometimes it is "Genius Data", sometimes something else. The common problem across platforms is that somewhere in the iPad sync process it gets "stuck" with the message "Waiting for items to copy". In my case, I ran this overnight -- for over 12 hours -- and the problem did not resolve.
Here is my situation: iPad1, just upgraded to iOS5. MacBook Pro just upgraded to 10.7.2. itunes 10.5. When I connect the iPad, iTunes does a synchronization automatically and seems to succeed up to the last step, in my case 8 of 8. Then, it "hangs" during synchronization. Sometimes it says it is Syncing Genius Data, sometimes it says something different. But, it always says "Waiting for items to copy" and then sits forever.
To terminate this I just eject the iPad and things seem to be working okay, but it is troublesome that the sync does not complete normally.Hi TD,
You solved my problem awhile ago and I didn't post a thank here. So thank you! I was having a problem with a PDF that kept rechecking itself. It was not the User guide. Anyway, I posted your solution on another discussion board and it has solved the issue for several people. Here's the link. My post is on the last page. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3391000 -
Modal message popup hangs parallel model in Teststand 4?
Hi:
I'm having a problem using the 'Make Modal' option on message popups. It is hanging the user interface.
Here is what I've done:
* created a sequence with just a message popup in it (using Teststand 4.0 editor)
* set the popup to be modal
* set the sequence to use the parallel model
* recompiled Full Featured CVI User interface for teststand 4.0 (using CVI 8.0.1)
* run sequence in the recompiled user interface
* popup is displayed
* after acknowledging the popup, the popup and the user interface freeze
If I change the sequence to use the batch model, everything works.
If I don't recompile the user interface project that came with Teststand and just run the exe, everything works.
What am I missing? Sequence file attached.
Thanks,
Dave

modalpopup.seq 6 KBHi dseel,
After I copied over your version of modelsupport2.dll, I see the attached error message for every test socket, basically saying that TestStand can't find a certain function in modelsupport2.dll.
What modifications did you make to the dll?
One thing though, I notice the same error message even with the Simple OI... Where are you putting modelsupport2.dll? In the same folder as the CVI Executable, or in <TestStand>\Components\NI\Models\TestStandModels?
