Squeaking sound on Satellite C655 S5048

I have been having trouble with the sound on my lap-top.  I did not have this problem when I originally bought it back in 12/2010.  The CDs play however when I play something from YouTube or iTunes it squeaks and crackles.  I can't get any sound from my iTunes. Sound is horrible.  Any advise?!!!  Help!

Hello
If its caused by speakers you can check yourself: Just connect external speakers or headphone. This will disable the internal speakers until externals are plugged in.
But my personal opinion is HDD too. HDD can cause mechanical sounds due a head crash. Important is that you make a backup of all important files if you didnt do this as yet.
Furthermore you should check the HDD for errors. This can be done with special diagnostic tools like Drive Fitness Test. Its freeware tool and can be downloaded here:

I hope it helps! :)

  • Satellite C655 Won't Play Sound Anymore

My Toshiba Satellite C655 won't play sound through my built-in speakers.
The sound is turned up, it is not muted, and the internal speakers are the default. I can plug in my headphones and it will work, but it won't come through the speakers. This is the first time I've had this problem and I've had the laptop for about 5 months now.
    Please help!

    Hello
Please click with right mouse button on sound symbol in task bar and choose option layback devices.
    Is option Speakers listed there?
Is it set to default device? If not define it as default device (right mouse button on it and choose option Set as default device.
Please check all this and send some feedback.

  • No sound coming from Satellite C655!

Help! I bought a new Satellite C655 two weeks ago and just today the sound quick working ... I have checked most everything ... and still no results ... any advise out there?

I had the same sound problem and I followed these steps & my sound is working perfectly again.
Try this; Turn OFF the laptop, remove the power sources (ac adapter and battery). Without power sources, hold power button 10 secs. Put back the power sources, and power ON the laptop.
If this does not resolve the issue, uninstall and reinstall the audio driver. Go to start/type device manager in search box/click sound video and game controller/uninstall the audio driver and restart the laptop to take effect. Once the laptop booted up wait for the message that the device driver is successfully installed or check if the audio driver is back in the device manager. Then test the sound.
    Hope this helps!

  • Satellite C655-S5044 won't recognize TSST CDDVDW TS-L633C ATA device after windows 7 update

    Laptop: Toshiba Satellite C655-S5044; Windows 7 64-bit
DVD Drive - TSST CDDVDW TS-L633C ATA Device
After an automatic Windows update, the CD/DVD drive is no longer recognized.
Running troubleshoot on the PC yields:
Problem detected with TSST CDDVDW TS-L633C ATA Device Driver has been disabled
Checking for new drivers says I have the latest.
I tried running a microsoft fixit for DVD/CD drives - no problem found
I tried deinstalling the driver, then rebooting.  This yields a message:
Device Driver was not successfully installed please consult with your device manufacturer.
I tried the TSST website for Toshiba and that rerouted me here.
Searching the forums I have seen similar issues with other hardware/OS combinations but not exactly the same.
Additional Info from the device manager:
    Device Type:  DVD/CD-ROM Drive
    Manufacturer: (Standard CD-ROM drives)
    Location:  Location 0 (Channel 1, target 0, Lun 0)
I suspect that I have multiple device drivers on the computer for this device and the OS is installing one that doesn't work.
How can I get the correct current driver and install it?
Does anyone recognize this problem and have a fix?
    Thanks.

    Satellite C655-S5044
I didn't find that model anywhere.
Device Driver was not successfully installed please consult with your device manufacturer.
The driver is native to Windows. Sounds to me like a hardware malfunction.
    After an automatic Windows update,..
In a Microsoft forum, they would tell you to do a System Restore to before the Windows Update. If that fixed the problem, then apply the updates one at a time to identify the culprit.

  • Microphone not working - Satellite C655-S5132 - Windows 7

I have a microphone plugged into my Satellite C655-S5132 which is running Windows 7.  I can't get it to record.
From Start I typed 'microphone' and selected 'Manage audio devices'.  Clicked the Recording tab.  Two microphones showed up which confuses me.  I didn't think there was an internal microphone.  I unplugged my microphone and one of the microphones on the tab became 'Not plugged in', so I plugged it in again and it became 'Default Device'.  From start I typed 'sound' and selected 'Sound Recorder'.  I clicked 'Start Recording' and spoke into the microphone.  I stopped the recording and saved into a .wma file.  When I play that file there is no sound.  The speakers are at 100%

  • How to improve the screen and audio quality on my Satellite c655-s5132

I recently bought a used Satellite C655-S5132 laptop.  Although this machine is designed to run on Windows 7, it came equipped with Windows XP.  The machine runs OK except for the screen which shows a distorted image and the sound which is tinny and low volume.
I suspect this is due to a software shortcoming rather than a defect in any of the hardware.  The image distortion may be due to the fact that this laptop comes with a wide screen with an aspect ratio of 6:9, whereas the Windows XP operating system that is currently installed on this laptop is set at an aspect ratio of 4:3 and doesn't allow me to switch to the other aspect ratio.
As a result, the image fills the entire screen but appears to be stretched horizontally.  As for the audio, I checked the volume settings and they are all set at their upper limit.
    I have done the following:
    1.  I did a system check which shows that there are 2 drivers that need to be updated: video controller and video controller (VGA compatible).  But when I prompt the machine to install updated drivers it gives me a failure code 28 "device not installed properly".
    2. I ran 2 driver software programs: one shows that for both video controllers "the manufacturer is unknown" and "drivers are not installed", and the second shows that the driver is installed but needs to be updated.
    3. Searched the web for the right drivers and found that for this machine running on Windows XP (32 bit), Intel produces a graphic driver, GMA 4500.
    4. I tried to download this driver from the Intel website but the installation process failed. Perhaps it failed because Toshiba has specified a custom version of this graphic driver that can only be downloaded from its own website.
    5. I searched the Toshiba website but was unable to identify the drivers for sound and image for this machine.
Could anyone help me find the right drivers on the Toshiba website that would allow me to: (i) change the setting for the aspect ratio and in doing so get rid of the image distortion, as well as improve the overal picture quality, and (ii) increase the audio volume and improve the overall sound quality?
    Thank you.

My advice is to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. All the drivers and utilities are properly preinstalled. Windows is preactivated.
You can obtain recovery discs from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here .
For instructions, see the section Restoring from recovery DVDs/media, which begins on p. 71 of the User's Guide.

  • Satellite C655 Stereo mixer no available?

How do I get a stereo mixer on this laptop so I can do online karaoke?
    Got Satellite C655.

    Hi
As far as I know the unit supports Conexant sound chip and as far as I know the stereo mix is not supported by Conexant.
    Found this:

  • Satellite C655-S5128 won't boot up

Satellite C655-S5128 shut down due to low battery before we could get charger plugged in.  Now it won't boot up.  It's stuck on the Toshiba logo page that also says to press F2 or F12 for setup/boot options.  There's also a faint beeping sound we've never heard before. After a while of pushing buttons an error message popped up stating no bootable device can be found.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Satellite C655-S5128
Let's try a proper system reset, and see if this helps bring your laptop back.  Power off your system, unplug everything including the AC, remove the battery, press and hold down the power on button for 30 seconds, replace battery and AC, power on, when you see the Toshiba logo press the 'F2' key to enter BIOS Setup, in setup press 'F9' to load setup defaults, press 'F10' to save and exit, then try to boot into Windows again.
Let us know what happens. Good luck.

  • USB Ports on 3 month old Satellite C655-S5049 do not work-even after Recovery to "Out-of-Box" state

Hello - Hoping someone can help with another suggestion- it doesn't look good.
Both USB ports on my wife's 3 month old Satellite C655-S5049 are non-functional with any USB device. Flash drives, wireless mouse, and external hard drive (powered) that all work on all of my other computers, do not work in either of this laptop's USB ports.
This problem seems to have developed gradually, and became noticeable previously as non-responsiveness in the wireless mouse, which gradually became a concern, with the computer appearing to freeze or lock-up - probably because of the number of times the mouse was clicked on shortcuts and executables before something happened.
The ports are now completely "dead"- no recognition of anything inserted once the computer is up and running.
There appears to be a thermal component involved, since I was able to get the devices recognized and working for up to a minute when booting the computer with the devices in the ports after it had been off for several hours after I did the default state recovery. The flash drive and mouse were recognized, drivers loaded message, but they then went to "unplugged" before I could get the cursor moving. I was able to access the flash drive, since I did it as soon as the driver loaded, but then it disappeared ("un-plugged" itself in the driver loaded message box). I can also get them recognized from this COLD boot state when I immediately plug them in once Windows 7 (64) loads, but they quickly disappear. If I wait a few minutes before re-booting, they flash during the Windows boot, but drop-out before it completes. If I wait 3-4 hours to re-boot, they flash (are recognized) for about a minute (Windows completely loads), but then they drop out.
I tried all of the suggestions on this board (and others) before doing a Recovery to Factory Default state. I have tried it with the original version 1.20 Bios, and with the version 1.50 Bios update. All driver updates have been downloaded and installed. The laptop does occasionally lock-up at the Toshiba screen during boot, and is verrrry slow in some operations (2 hours to do the recovery discs). The only other noticeable problem (at this time) is an occasional drop-out of wireless (Atheros AR9285) connectivity, which I have been blaming on the router since it is sporadic and infrequent (not consistent with the thermal argument). These problems are all after the Factory Default State recovery operation, so my assumption is that they are hardware based.
Any suggestions for a solution? This is a standard spec Satellite C655-S5049 that I was considering adding another 2GB memory to, but now I am unsure of its' future. A laptop cooler that runs from a USB port seems counter-productive.
I am technically capable, so you can be much briefer in your response than I have been in trying to fully detail the problems. This isn't the NVidia chip, but it does bring back memories of laptops past.
    Thanks for any help,
    G

My HDD crashed. When I tried to reinstall the software on the new HDD using the recovary DVD's I created I ma getting errors. The DVD's were created at the time I purchased the laptop.

I have spend a whole weekend dealing with this with no success.
    Pls help

    Hi Jerry,
    Thank you for the links.
I have installed the Rapid Storage Driver and MS KB update.
All seems fine regarding the services etc.
How ever I still have a driver issue.
    1) The Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter shows an error. - This driver was supplied by Toshiba and worked fine in my original install.
    2) When installing my ADSL modem, I get a message saying "This version of windows requires a digitally signed driver" ( see attached image)
    * The ADSL driver is unsigned. But in the original OS, I was given the option to install despite the driver being unsigned.
    * I also have anoter Toshiba win7 x64 laptop. This also allows the unsigned driver to be installed after a warning
    * If I use F8 and use undigned driver mode, all works fine
My question is, is there some registry tweak etc to make the normal boot'ed windows to run the unsigned drivers, as my original installed OS did?

  • Copy Protection Error when doing a system recover - Satellite C655

I have a satellite c655 S5206.  The computer seemed to have a virus as it would lock on windows and eventually wouldn't boot.  I tried using the system recover option built in but it didn't work so I ordered the disk from Toshiba.  When I tried to use them I got an Error 0x80030309 copy protection error.  I though it was a corrupted or bad hard drive so I ordered a new one but I still get the same error when trying to install disk 1 of the system recovery process.  Any help or explanation would be helpful.  Thanks

Hi Models may differ in the way you use your recovery discs. You should read your user manuel to find out how to use these discs. Here's the basic way.
Using Recovery CDs / DVDs / Media
If you have created recovery DVDs/media for your system, you can restore your system from such media, if necessary. For example, if your original internal storage drive fails, you can restore your system to a new internal storage drive from your recovery DVDs/media. For instructions on creating recovery DVDs/media, see the How To: Understanding System Recovery Options + Creating / Purchasing Recovery Media article.
IMPORTANT: The recovery process deletes information stored on the internal storage drive. Be sure to save your work to external media before executing the recovery.
To recover your internal storage drive from recovery DVDs/media:
Make sure your computer is turned off.
Do one of the following: If your recovery files are on DVDs, insert the first recovery DVD into your optical disc drive. If your recovery files are on a USB flash drive, connect the USB flash drive to your computer.
Turn on your computer. When the initial TOSHIBA screen displays, press the F12 key on your keyboard. The boot menu displays.
Using the arrow keys, select the DVD option or the USB Flash option, depending on which type of media you are using, and then press the Enter key.
A warning screen appears, stating that when the recovery is executed all data on your internal storage drive will be deleted and rewritten unless the “Recovery of Factory Default Software with user’s data” option is selected. Click Yes to continue.
When the Toshiba Recovery Wizard opens and the “Selecting a process” screen displays, select Recovery of Factory Default Software, and then click Next.
On the next screen you may have recovery method options. The default and recommended method is to Recover to Out of Box state.
Follow the on screen instructions as you navigate through the system recovery steps.
The laptop will restart multiple times and install the needed components.

  • My macbook pro retina F2 key makes a squeaking sound due to heat!?

    Hello All,
My brand new Macbook Pro Retina's F2 key makes an awful squeaking sound when i press it.... The sound got even worse when the macbook ran hot and i had to presse the key for multiple times....... Now it seems like even my F3 key is slowly dying when my macbook is under heat stress and i am pressing it.
Does anyone else have this problem? Its really bothering cause its a brand new computer, its still practically warm from the production line..... I called apple and they told me to go to a service centre :-( but i need this machine for my work and a service centre takes the minimum of 10 work days to repair it.........
    What can i do....
    Kind Regards Cor.

Hi guys, i know exactly how you feel. The rmbp should be perfect, i mean common its a 2300++ system... After i posted the above i deceided to take it to the apple store and let them fix it. I must say they did a good job! I got my rmbp back within 3 days! I think thats very fast.
What they did is they replaced the top case, cause the keyboard and mousepad are fixed to it. Also the battery is so thats brand new as well.
Now everything seems to work properly, i tested every key and searched for scratchtes or any imperfections but all seems ok.
I can only give you 1 advice if your key squeaks, take it back it should be perfect! In my case the squeaking only got worse and i still think it has something to do with the heat of the rmbp cause it came when i was gaming and the macbook got really hot.

    > I also noticed there is no online support for model R630-11L. Anyone can provide me with a link?
I dont know what you mean by online support
The notebook is listed on the Toshiba page gulf area because the notebook has been released for these specific countries.
    http://gulf.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/en/product/Satellite-R630-11L/1090706/toshibaShop/false/
Furthermore the notebook belongs to the PT31LE series and this series is listed on the Toshiba European driver page as well
PS: If you have noticed this noise only from one speaker, then an speaker issue is possible I would also recommend connecting headphones in order to check if the same noise would be present
