Squiggly line under markup in code view?

Hi,
Sometimes when using DW I get the following as depicted by the screen shot :
Does this mean tags are not matching ( opening tag not matching up with closing tag? )
The strange thing is when I close the file then re-open it the "squigglies" are gone.
Anyone know what this means?
Thanks,
Jim

Well I didn't say your markup was wrong. I just think DW "suggests" that it could pose a problem in some older browsers.
Not sure why the hint would disappear once the file is closed and reopened though. Come to think of it, I dont notice it in some of my projects anymore either. Maybe by default it closes after a certain time or action(closing and reopening).
Someone else here might have more insight on this.

  • Vertical Lines or Guides in Code View

    Hello:
Am I missing a setting in DW or did they just not include this. I am used to seeing vertical lines in code view to note where the beging of a tag originated. For example if I put a <TD> tag somwhere in the document and move on down the code line, when I finally put the </td> tag there is a vertical line leading up to it.
Any help or advice on this would be very helpful.

@pmsquillace : definitely! I am dying for vertical grid lines. Dreamweaver, this is a must. This feature is needed greatly. I just looked for yet another time to find a plugin for Dreamweaver to get vertical lines but 0 results.
Now I have realized my own best option is to use the pixel ruler . It can be a lesser substitute which I an now going to use as needed.
@John Waller : I am submitting a feature request right away. Thanks for the link.

  • Is it possible to change  color on the line strip/code view in CS6?

    Hello -
I did some research on this and cant seem to see if this can be done - I was hoping to change the color of the blue line menu on the code view screen.
    Eric

I take it you're referring to that vertical line in the left hand side of Code View? I don't think it's possible to change the color.  If you disable line numbers (#), it's a bit less noticeable.

  • DW CS6: Extra empty blank line in code view causing trouble!

    Hi all,
I searched for hours for a solution to the following problem, without any success.
When coding in Dreamweaver CS6 (Version 12.0, Windows 8.1), an extra non-editable blank line is automatically added at the bottom of the document (in code-view). This is a nice feature, since it clearly separates the end of the document from the rest of the DW user interface. BUT:
WHEN you have "Word Wrap" disabled (i.e. horizontal scroll bars appear if one or more lines are longer than the current view),
AND no line is actually longer than the view (i.e. NO horizontal scroll bars),
AND you click somewhere into the document while the vertical scroll bar is at the very bottom,
THEN the code view jumps one line upwards causing a selection of 2 lines.
This might not seem to be a big issue at first glance, but surprisingly often all of the mentioned conditions are met.
Is there any possibilty to somehow get rid of this problem?
Note: The problem does not occur when any of the above conditions is false.
    Cheers!
    CamelCase

    This is strange...
Yes, I just updated DW to 12.03 a minute before I posted the question. ;-)
Are you sure you cannot reproduce it? Is there a blank line at the bottom of your editor as well?
    Here are the conditions again:
    Word Wrap is disabled.
No line too long for vertical scrollbar to appear.
Scroll fully down in the code view.
    Click somewhere into the document.
Effect: The view jumps exactly one line upwards (such that the mentioned blank line just disappears), and instead of a blinking cursor, two lines are selected.
Here is a screenshot before/after the click:
I appreciate any help. Really, thank you!!

  • Thousands of blank lines in code view? Where did they come from?

I have an older DW site, that for some reason when I open certain pages in code view show literally thousands of blank lines.  So line 1, code, line 2-15 are blank, then what used to be line 2 of the code, is now line 16. All the way down the line.  This one page literally has THOUSANDS of blank lines in it:
Aurora Prom Corsages, Boutonnieres, Flowers, School Dance Flowers-Yorkville, Osego Illinois
page renders, edits and looks fine in DW, browsers, etc.
My client edits it with Contribute. I use DW.
There are certain pages he opens regularly, never saw the lines, other pages, just opens once a year, lines all over again.
We can't find any rhyme or reason to it.
    Has anyone ever seen this?

Try opening one of those pages in DW and then go to Commands > Apply Source Formatting and see if that cleans them out.
I've heard of a bug where adding html comments can cause added blank lines in certain versions, I've never seen it myself though.

  • Code view line height

I am on Mac OS X Yosemite using DW CC 2014. Code view is set to Source Code Pro. The problem is that line height in code view is smaller than the font height -- or something like that.
This screenshot demonstrates what I mean. Look at these characters: {,},y,g and see how they are cut off at the bottom. I've tried to fix this by changing fonts but most other fonts show the same problem. Changing font size in DW preferences also does not fix it. I tried changing the Source Code Pro set altogether using Suitcase Fusion. That did not help either. When I try to use Source Code Pro in other apps it works fine. So this seems to be a DW-specific problem.
    Any ideas?

    Hello Almir,
The issue is due to missing fonts: Tahoma and Verdana. We have a bug logged for the issue and will looked into.
Kindly follow the below workaround till the issue is fixed.
    1. Launch Font Book from /Applications/
    2. If Tahoma and Verdana fonts are disabled, enable the fonts
Or if the fonts are missing, install the fonts.
    3. Launch Dreamweaver
Let me know if the workaround is able to fix the issue for you.
    Regards.

  • Change line height in code view?

    Hello,
Using DW8. In code view, I need to use a large font size but
in so doing the lines are very close together. Is there any way to
adjust the line height of the code?
    Thanks.

If you referring to the actual text of the web page, yes. For
    example, in a
    paragraph:
    p{
    line-height:1.5em
If you're referring to the code editor, I don't think there
    is.

    Hi
There are several layers to this Q
    A. There are no HD in DVD - DVD is as standard only SD-Video what ever tools used to produce it !
iDVD or DVD-Studio Pro or Roxio Toast™ - will only make SD-Video on DVD
    B. DVD can be better or worse
    • Using "Share to iDVD" is no good way - Better is Share to Media Browser and as Large (NOT HD as result will be worse)
    • Using iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - are not tools to chose if highes quality is of importance - iMovie up to HD6 or FinalCut any version is far better as they send over all lines to iDVD and not only every second one.
    • Using Right encoder quality depending on movie and Manu duration is very important
    • Use of high quality brand of DVD - is important - I use Verbatim DVD-R
    • Type of DVD - DVD-R plays on more DVD-Players (even old ones)
    • Burn speed - I set it down to x4 - resulting in less burn errors - plays on more players
    • I secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up Mac OS hard disk as iDVD and Mac OS needs this and it can not be taked from other hard disks - has to be here.
    • What You feed iDVD does matter
    Video codecs
    Audio file formats
    Photo file formats

  • Line breaks in code view

I'm using Dreamweaver in 90% of the time in code view, and there is one thing I dont like and I can't seem to fix it.
When I have a log text the text breaks at the end of my screen and continues at the next line, instead of giving me a horizontal scrollbar at the bottom of the page.
Is there an option to make this happen?

Dreamweaver has two types of word wrapping in Code view: hard wrapping, which is off by default, and soft wrapping, which is on by default.
Soft wrapping works like a word processor by moving text onto the next line when it reaches the right border, but does not insert a newline character. To turn off soft wrapping, go to View > Code View Options, and click Word Wrap. It's a toggle on-off option. With a check mark alongside, it's on. Just click to remove the check mark and turn off soft wrapping.
Hard wrapping, by the way, is in Preferences > Code Format. It's not recommended, because it breaks JavaScript.

  • Dotted lines for tab indents in Code View

Does anyone know how to whip DW's code view into the current century? I Specifically showing tabs in code view. Other IDE's have a great way of showing tab indenting with subtle lines. DW's approach is heavey handed and garish. IMO it's unusable in it's current form. See comparison below.
Is there a plugin, xml hack, or hidden preference that would allow me to achieve something similar?

Try opening one of those pages in DW and then go to Commands > Apply Source Formatting and see if that cleans them out.
I've heard of a bug where adding html comments can cause added blank lines in certain versions, I've never seen it myself though.

How I activate, when in code view current code line, to be

Actually, in Windows (XP) the highlight color (in DW8) is a
    byproduct of the
color scheme you set for your desktop.

  • Text wrapping in code view

In Preferences, I have checked the option Automatic wrapping
    after column
    76. However some rows can't wrap at the specified column
    because the tags in
that rows can't be destributed in two lines. So, DW (8 and
    now CS3)
hard-breake them at the end of the window, resulting in a new
    line without
line number (I have Line numbers checked under View > Code
    view options

Is there a setting for not breaking those tags at the end of
    the window?
(I'm only speaking about the long tags and not the plain
    text, that I srtill
want it wrapped at column 76 so, I can't uncheck the Option
    Word wrap under
View > Code view options menu, because it overrides the
    wrapping after
column 76 option of the Preferences, making not only the long
    tags exceeding
window's right edge, but plain text, too).

  • Whenever I try to adjust the color of a scene it gets distorted/squiggly lines.

Using elements 12; This is my first time editing by the way. Whenever I try to adjust the color of a scene the footage gets distorted/squiggly lines. This is prior to me rendering the footage -- I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

    Thanks for the reply.
    General
Are you saying that scenes with and without color correction had those quiggly look?
Are you aware of the More button at the bottom right of the Lighting Panel expanded? When you click on that, you should have opportunities
to adjust your settings. Right now you are looking at the More view. Note the Less bottom at the bottom right of the Lighting Panel expanded. You would click on Less to get back to the original view which does not have the adjustments sliders included.
    More Specifics
Definitely start with the look at unrendered (orange line over content) versus rendered (green line over content).
Once that is ruled out then we can explore alternative explanation for what you are observing.
If unrendered/rendered is not the answer, could you post a screenshot of one of scenes with the "distorted/squiggly lines"
But, if you cannot, written Q&A will have to do.
    1. Can you get the properties of this 4 min promo video - video compression, audio compression, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file extension, pixel aspect ratio. If you do not have this information, it can be obtained from the MediaInfo (Tree View) program.
    http://mediainfo-mac.en.softonic.com/mac
Just be careful for unwanted carry alongs during the download and install of MediaInfo. In the MediaInfo (Tree View), please look for what are listed for Scan Type and Scan Order.
    2. Also, please tell us what you see listed in the opened project under
Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the readings for Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Size, and Pixel Aspect Ratio (even if the fields look grayed out).
Let us start here. If there is anything that you need clarification on, please do not hesitate to ask. I will rewrite if necessary.
    Thanks.

  • Code missing in code view (DWMX)

    Hiya,
We're having a weird problem at the office here. Here's
    what's happening:
    1. we use php includes on our site.
    2. when in code view, some source code is missing.
    3. yet the missing code renders (not so correctly) in design
    view.
    4. above mentioned source code are visible in other text
    editors.
    5. they are also correct when live on servers.
I have singled out the cause of this behavior, though:
    parent page: A.php
    child element: B.htm
    external javascript: C.js
When C is placed directly in A, code view is correct. If I'm
    using C in
B, and then including B into A, for some reason, DWMX will
    cut off code
    in A (right after <?php include("B.htm") ?>).
I hope I made myself clear enough, for I was unable to find a
    work
around, and we need to be able to work in code view for this
    project
    unfortunately. Any help appreciated, TIA.

I have tested this in Dreamweaver CS3, and the code beneath
    the include
is displayed perfectly in Code view, so this is probably a
    problem
    related to Dreamweaver MX.
It might not make any difference, but check that your version
    is 6.1.
Dreamweaver MX 6.0 had a lot of problems. If your version is
    still 6.0,
    apply the MX 6.1 updater:

  • Help navigating my own code view...

ok, the particulars... mac, dw 8 (using it since way back in
ver 2 - but hand-coding for years), more than enough power/ram for
dw even though it's not relevant to the question...
i'm usually about 70/30 in split view with code being the
primary, or all code view... basically, to not go into the design
view arguement... i don't need it or use it much outside of
visually checking image paths as i work.
bouncing around in the code view (moving my cursor) is quite
a pain when compared to other text editors and word processors
(even though the intent of the app is completely different) —
and it would seem that since they've thought of most everything
else, it's probably in here and i just can't find it...
for example: in textedit, word, entourage and mail,
illustrator, photoshop, any browser input box, etc... using
    command-arrow, option-arrow, command-shift-arrow, etc will all
provide different desired results per the specs of each app... but
in dw, it seems to me that (except the nice selection abilities
using the shift modifier) it only does one thing. it will bounce to
the beginning or end of the last/next element, attribute, or equal
sign if that is the case, or in css it will only move between the
next/last selector, attribute or value, etc...
is there a simple way to jump to the beginnig or end of a
line? or the beginning or ending of an element (w/ or w/o skipping
the attributes inside)? are there any other ways to bounce around
in dw that i just cannot find in the forums, help files, etc...?
it seems an app this well-put-together and extensible
wouldn't lack a feature that is common just about everywhere else,
and hinder the productivity of the user... especially when most
good coders i know barely take their hands off the keyboard to go
to a mouse until they're viewing the site live to test
interaction... i must be missing something i'm sure!
anyone? even if it's pc-related, i'd assume there is a
    mac-equiv so don't be shy...
    thanks,
    - jeremy
