817 789 9578Hi Ben,
I called 800-my apple and was told that the stores they had checked are planning on about a week or so, but it's possible some individual stores may get them in sooner, so there's no real answer to that aside from contacting your local Apple Store.
If you pay it off inside 12 months, there is no interest, but if you go over that buying on credit costs you more in the long run. I always pay for something now (as opposed to financing) to save the money that would have been spent on interest. Plus, that's one less thing I have to keep track of.
Good luck with your decision. -
Engineer to Logical Model in SQL Developer EA4 causes problems
I'm working with SQL Developer 3.0 EA4 (Build MAIN-03.97)
Unfortunately I fond out, that it would be impossible to use the function " Engineer to Logical Model" any more after I change the relational model. In datamodeler.log I got the error message line "[AWT-EventQueue-0] ERROR MDBAction - java.lang.NullPointerException" for each time I use the function "Engineer to Logical Model". I try it out with the sample model "sh_cre_all.sql" and with following steps:
1) Import via DDL File – no problem
2) Engineer to Logical Model – no problem
3) Change some attributes in the relational model – no problem
4) Again Engineer to Logical Model – no problem
5) Save, Exit an Open the sample – no problem
6) Again Step 3 and 4 – no problem
7) Add a table via drag&drop from an oracle schema – no problem
8) Save, Exit an Open the sample – no problem
9) Engineer to Logical Model no longer possible!!!
BerndI have experienced similar problems with 'Engineer to Logical model'.
The scenario was following:
Creating Logical model using 'Engineer to Logical model' from existing Relational model.
Modifying the Relational model and 'Engineer to Logical model' again. No exception occured but the Logical model wasn't updated accordingly.
Removing all entities from the Logical model.
Trying to 'Engineer to Logical model' again. No entities were created in the Logical model (even after few tries).
So I got to situation where I was unable to generate a Logical model, which was quite frustrating.
The workaround was to create new Data Modeller project and import to it from the original project - the 'Engineer to Logical model' worked again. -

Engineer visit re: new infinity order need urgent ...
i ordered Infinity yesterday and received all teh relevant emails from BT confirming order.
One email states the engineer will visit from 13:00 and 18:00 Ive just check the status of my order and it now states the followin info where previously a time was given for the enginner:
Your appointment is no longer required, as our engineer can connect your line without requiring access to your premises. The engineer will work to connect your line at the exchange.
I am very concerned who do I call? - I dont want to call and go to India becuase people on the forum seem to have issues with enginner visits when they have been routed to the team there - Im disabled and need my connection - My understanding is that an engineer does need to attend the property to install the bt modem vDSL?

Broadband - BT Infinity Option 2
Your appointment
Hi there,
You can safely ignore that notification. The engineer does need access to your property, as he will need to install the BT Openreach VSDL modem and the Infinity SSFP (Service Specific Face Plate) onto your current master socket.
I hope this info helps. -
How can I make sure the engineer comes this time?
Hi there I noticed at the beginning of last week that my broadband had slowed to a crawl. I checked the phone and could not get a dial tone. Ringing our number made the phone ring but no conversation was possible. Broadband was synced at 640 Kbps I got the automated line checker which found a fault near my property - the telegraph pole in the graphic. I fault was logged on May 1st and I got a repair date for next Wednesday 9th which I wouldn't be able to make so I went to rearrange and was able to pick last Saturday morning 5th May. About 2 hours after i rearranged it I had a call from Mumbai, he said someone was going to be coming on the original date of Wednesday, I assumed that as I had just rearranged this would not now be happening, but couldnt get him to understand that the new dte of saturday 5th wasshoes ing on my fault update page. Sure enough nobody came on the Saturday . I have now rearranged it for the afternoon of Friday 11th May My question is how do I find out if an engineer is still going to come on Wednesday afternoon (I can try to take the afternoon off from work) or has that now been properly rearranged for Friday, given that last time it was irrelevant that Saturday was showing on my fault update page for the engineers visit? Is there any way I can confirm this is logged properly on the BT systems? Sorry about the long paragraphs posting from an iPad doesn't result in correct formatting!
Haha, the engineer turned up today, on the wednesday, which was the original date allocated!
Despite me rearranging for last saturday morning, (showing up on my "track my fault") then, following a non show, rearranging for next friday afternoon, (showing up on my "track my fault") the OR enginner phones me (on my mobile obviously) to tell me he is her at 12.20 on the wednesday.
Luckily I was at work and could get home in 20 mins, and the chap (really nice) said he would make a start. By the time I got home he told me he had fixed it - the connection was ?corroded (6 yr old house) on the BT side of the fence.
There is a total disconnect between the "track my fault" page with BT and Openreach
If my mobile had not been in signal range and I had not been able to get home to meet this really nice OR enginner, and had they not turned up on Friday with an afternoon lost from work I would not have been happy!
I have an installation date for BT Infinity in 2w time, on price alone, but hope i don't live to regret this
I would appreciate a reply as to why "rearrange my appointment" has no effect -
Hi All,

Open letter to the chief designer/engineer of the Q10
Premises:
- I have never bothered to post anything on any forum in my whole life but today I could not hold it.
- I have been using blackberry devices every 5 minutes for the last 6 years of my awake life.
- I work in a bank and half of my 2000 contacts have a blackberry as a work phone.
This is the rudest I will get in this post and I hope you will publish it: "Chief engineer, what the hell passed through your mind when you decided to remove the trackpad from the new Q10?"
One step back. Let's go back few years.
Bold 9000 was the best handset I have ever had. The mechanical trackpad was razor sharp and accurate and fast. Yes maybe I had to replace it once every 18 months but who cares, and how much can it cost you guys anyway a little ball of plastic? At that time I used to challenge any iPhone user to see who could type faster. I always won. If I still had it I could still win. It doesn't matter that I type with 2 fingers on my PC keyboard and that I have a permanent RSI on my right arm. I was lightning fast. Sometimes I can type even without looking at the BlackBerry keyboard.
Then you decided to make the keyboard smaller or remove it all together to feel like an iPhone. Not a great choice. Keyboard (together with the trackpad and instant emails) is all you had. And believe me that was more than enough. I feel crippled when using the Bold 9700 and I do not have giant hands. The software has been designed to maximize the number of clicks to do anything. Why should I waste a click to open the tray when 3/4 of the screen is empty?!? I endured 18 months of my contract waiting for the latest bold.
At some point you realized that the keyboard was important and you made it bigger again. Fantastic! Your realized that most business people do like the physical keyboard and they use their phone for writing and reading. Many of them. Very often. And they have to be quick.
But then today I go to try the new BB Bold Q10 and I realized that you have removed the trackpad. So instead of moving any of my thumbs 2mm higher to click and scroll now my fingers have to travel a much longer distance to do the same in a more awkward and wasteful way. Things keep getting less accurate. Mechanical trackpad, then the worse optical one, now what?
I went on Ebay. Some new old BB Bold 9000 are still for sale at 70 GBP. I will buy a couple today. This will keep me running for 2-3 years. By then I hope that you will have either lost your job because your company went bust or repented and produced what business people really want.
I hope not too many other people will be bidding with me today.
E.S.I was on BOLD 9900 before, I loved it, but moved on to Z10, and now got the Q10. Honestly - the most superb phone in the world ! Don't need the trackpad

4 Wi-Fi Tips from Former Apple Wi-Fi Engineer
Hi, I thought this was a real neat little article from Alf Watt, former Apple Wi-Fi engineer and creator of the fantastic Wi-Fi utility, iStumbler, Thought I would share.
Alf Watt, former Apple Wi-Fi engineer and creator of the fantastic Wi-Fi utility, iStumbler, joined us on this week's Mac Geek Gab 509 to talk all things Wi-Fi. The episode contains a bunch of juicy Wi-Fi tips and I highly recommend you give it a listen, but for now our four favorite tips are listed below. Think of this as the MGG 509 Cliff's Notes... and make sure you read, erm, listen to the whole thing, too. On to the tips:
1. Use same SSID for all radios on the same network (be they 2.4GHz or 5GHz). If you have one network in your home but have either multiple routers/access points for better coverage or multiple radios in one access point, the advice is the same: use the same SSID (wireless network name) for all of them and let the client devices each decide which is best to use.
Apple devices choose networks by your preferred order. Period. If you have multiple networks of different names your Mac or iPhone will always choose the first in your iCloud-synced "Preferred Networks" list even if this one isn't going to give you the best bandwidth. If you have the network name/SSID the same then it will chose the radio that it predicts will give the best throughput (which isn't always the one with the best signal, but that's an even geekier discussion you can hear in the show). Make all the Wi-Fi networks in your home the same. Your life will be better for it.
2. Deal with congestion with more access points using less power. In response to a listener's query about how best to deal with having lots of access points in a small location, say an apartment building, the best thing to do is to actually increase the number of access points but lower the transmit power on each so as to keep them from interfering with each other. It's good if your neighbors do this, too, of course, but it will help even if it's just you. We recommend using Powerline adapters to connect all of your access points together to avoid the headaches of just extending Wi-Fi.
Another helpful option is to use 5Ghz channels where possible. The higher frequency band doesn't go through walls as well and may be exactly what the Wi-Fi doctor ordered in highly-congested areas (and when we get 60Ghz Wi-Fi, that'll be even more helpful!)
Next: When to use Wide channels and Antenna Orientation.
3. Don't use "Wide" 40MHz channels on 2.4GHz. Some routers (not Apple's) will allow you to use "Wide" channels on the 2.4GHz band. The problem is this band is so congested that you'll likely just wind up making things worse instead of better. Bluetooth lives here, too, and will appreciate the breathing room. Plus, Apple made the decision years ago to not support these wide channels at 2.4GHz, so even if your router allows you to enable it your iPhone and MacBook won't use it.
On your 5GHz radios 40MHz channels are perfectly acceptable (again, your Apple router takes care of this for you). And with 802.11ac (5GHz only) you may wind up using 80MHz or even 160MHz channels. Just remember that current 5GHz implementations only have enough room for TWO (yes, 2) 160MHz channels, so choose wisely. The good news is that current 802.11ac routers use "cognitive radio" technology. This means they listen before they talk and that will ratchet down from 80MHz (or 160MHz) to something lower if they see another router communicating in the same band. Smart.
4. Be smart about antenna orientation. If your router has internal antennas (as most new models do), make sure to use them in their natural orientation. Put simply: if the router has feet, use them as feet (as opposed to laying it on its side). Some routers have feet on two sides and give you placement options, so feel free to capitalize upon this flexibility.
For routers with those adjustable, "rubber ducky" antennas, Alf recommends pointing one straight up and one flat out. This is because radio reception is maximized when both client and access point have matched polarization (antennas pointing along the same plane).
Some client devices have antennas in vertical orientation, some horizontal. The current crop of MacBooks, for example, have their antennas in the black plastic part of the hinge in a horizontal orientation.
Those tips should get you started. Give Mac Geek Gab 509 a listen to learn more about beamforming, the future of Wi-Fi, how your router decides what country it's in (and what channels it can use!), the future of iStumbler (and other products from Alf) ... and more!
Solved!
Go to Solution.Roaming isn't part of the WiFi specification.
While some clients may look for the strongest signal most just look to see if they can connect to the last AP they were connected to.
Some SOHO APs will allow you to set them to reject a connection weaker than -70db.
To get efficient roaming between APs you need commercial AP controllers which monitor the entire network of APs to see which one offers the strongest signal and has the smallest load.
To the best of my knowledge there are no SOHO router/APs that talk to each other which is necessary for effective and seamless roaming. Apple hardware is supposedly better than other brands, but I have never used it.
Most people are better off setting up individual SSIDs for each radio that identifies the location (Upstairs 5, Upstairs 2.4, etc.) so a user can make an intelligent choice of which to connect to. If speed doesn't matter such as when checking and downloading e-mail then any SSID/radio will do. If you want to stream video than the nearest and probably the strongest 5 Ghz AP is what they should connect to.
Changing the names of SSIDs is trivial so if people want to try using all radios with the same SSID they should go for it. If they aren't happy with the results then go to plan B and rename. -

I have been using iPhoto 6 since it came out without problems. Yesterday, to solve unrelated problems, I was forced to do a full restore which included photos that were "pre-iPhoto 6". Therefore I had to re-install iPhoto 6. Now iPhoto 6 will not run
