Investigation Discovery channel in HD #623???? anyone have it???

Recieved Verizon's spotlight magazine today ans was surprised to see on page 16 that it listed investigaion Discovery channel as being on channel 623 in hd well when i went to look channel 623 does not exist in my guide, Can someone please explain this /   i am in Claymont DE VHO 8 - why would you note a channel when it doesn't exist at least for me

Workflow for exporting xml from Excel and importing into table in InDesign

Hello,
I have worked out how to get data from a .xlsx into a table in InDesign. However, the workflow is still a little clunky and I am looking for way to automate the process further. My current workflow is as follows (files can be download here: http://visual360.co.uk/xml.zip)
xml is exported from .xlsx by mapping the schema (see what_I_get.xml)
assign tags to table and individual cells in InDesign
This is the clunky bit: edit the what_I_get.xml to:
remove the indentation (this seems necessary as otherwise when I get to stage 4, all the imported text is also indented)
add tag for table in InDesign (p10_table)
add tags for individual cells (p10_c11 etc.)
import the produced what_I_want.xml in the structure panel of InDesign.
Can anyone point me in the direction of how to automate step 3 above?

Thanks very much for the reply. I am not at all familiar with XSL/XSLT. I have given it a quick google and it seems like it could be quite a steep learning curve to master. Maybe if I explain the whole context here, it may allow you to point me in the direction of a tutorial that provides a step by step approach to achieve my final goal. Alternatively, you may be able to suggest a whole new workflow.

The tables on pages 10-21 contain lots and lots of repeated information. We want the layout to in this format so that each group of students has all the information relevant to them on a single double spread. However, the challenge of using this approach is that it is very high maintenance to ensure the duplicated information is kept in sync - even using a copy / paste approach.
I was hoping to overcome this by using a single source of data (eg. a spreadsheet) which would then feed into the InDesign. This workflow seems to be overcomplicated by the apparent need to use xml as the "middle-man".
Ideally, I would like to press the export button in Excel and get this information into the the correct cells in the tables on pages 10-21 without a significant amount of manual labour - after all, my reasons for investigating an automated approach in the first place was to avoid the manual entering of data ie. the scope for error...
An alternative approach maybe to skip Excel altogether and just use .xml. However, I am not sure that this is possible as Indesign only seems to allow you to import each element once. Maybe you could correct me here...
I am happy to invest a certain amount of time in developing this approach as once it is in place, it will save a huge of proof-reading time year after year, especially as inconsistencies still persist despite our best efforts to weed them out.
If you could let me know your thoughts on this and maybe identify a tutorial that would help me, I would be extremely grateful.

Agile Development in an SAP Landscape

My team is looking to shift from a 'regular', waterfall-type development methodology which delivers 2 large functional releases per year to a more flexible, nimble project based approach based on Agile Development methodologies.
The goal is to be able to treat each project independently from a resource and scheduling perspective - so multiple projects could be underway at any one time but each one potentially running on a different time line. Of course, life-cycle support for the production environment would be on-going at the same time.
The problem we face is defining an SAP system landscape that supports this approach and that allows for the management of the inevitable conflicts that will arise when different projects require changes to the same development object.
I'm interested to hear feedback from anyone who has implemented an Agile Development approach within an SAP environment ( successfully or not ! ) as well as ideas for what a possible Agile SAP landscape could look like.

Our team has been adopting some agile practices and have seen some great benefits. We have not embraced one methodology entirely (XP, Scrum, etc.). We're taking bits and pieces that make sense in our environment and adopting them incrementally.
Here's an example of some of the things that we're doing:
1. Chunking out development tasks. Basically working with the requirements or functionality that we know and not waiting until every possible scenario is clearly (or not so clearly) defined. We try to get stakeholders (business users and BPx's) looking at our programs and prototypes often to ensure that we're on the right track. This chunking out of tasks has been a benefit in that it is easier to manage (from a manager and developer perspective) and it gives us clearly definable goals for what we're shooting for in a fixed time frame (1 week). We talk individually every day (short spinarounds) to ensure that we're on track and identify any potential risks.
2. Modeling of requirements. This proves extremely valuable to our developers, functional folks, and business users. This usually involves grabbing a couple of folks and whiteboarding ideas to ensure that everybody has a clear understanding of what is going on. I will admit that this we certainly don't do it as much as we should, but it's something that we're working on doing as much as we can.
3. Frequent builds/migration. We currently transport released changes to test every 30 minutes in the ABAP stack. This allows us as developers to move on to the next task and allows our testers a quicker turnaround of bug fixes and new functionality. We move production code twice a week. For the JAVA side, we do a "JIT" build/deployment. As fixes need to be migrated, we check in/build and deploy. Since the NWDI is still new to us, we haven't done much investigation on automating this process, but I imagine that we will do so in the future.
One of the challenges that we ran into was thinking that the code was the only thing that matters (which you might get from some agile camps). Just because you're modeling and documenting (just enough documentation), does not mean that you're not "agile". You don't throw out design and analysis just so you can sit down and write code to have something to show somebody. The collaboration and clarity that agile practices provide is one of the keys to making it successful.
We started implementing some of these practices in the development group about 8 months ago and since then we've seen some interest/adoption in our project management group and functional teams. I would imagine that we'll continue to pick and choose practices that work for us...try some out, see what happens, adapt, evolve, etc. So far so good in my opinion. From a managment perspective, it really has made it easy to know what people are working on and how productive we can be as a group. From a developer's perspective, it makes development easier and more fun when you have a clear target in front of you and you can throw out ideas in a modeling session. From the end user perspective, they seem to like that we can roll out production ready functionality in an incremental way so they don't have to wait 6 months to get something that they can see and use. From my limited experience, it seems to be a much better way to develop applications.

Terrible Customer Service/Sales Reps

I was always under the impression that Verizon had top notch sales reps and customer service. Oh how I was mistaken!
I was recently called by my parents asking me to look at their Verizon bill because it was over $200 a month. Well when I took a look at it I saw that they were sold a 75 MB internet plan and 300+ channel TV plan, along with a (suprisingly!) reasonable phone plan. 75 MB for one laptop can only handle 54 Mbps (Wireless G)! I am a developer with a laptop that can handle 105 Mbps (Wireless N) and I only have the 15 MB plan. Also 300+ channels for someone who only asked for HGTV and Investigation Discovery, really? Because those channels are on your 225 channel plan. I lowered their Ineternet speeds to 15 MB, like my own, and lowered the channels down to 225, again like my own. That saved them a whopping $40. $40, really! The only difference between their plan and mine is that they have home phone and that they have a two year contract and I signed up with a no contract plan. So you're telling me that it costs $80 more a month to have a two year contract and home phone service. I couldn't believe it so I called customer service. When I call the customer service reps. they all tell me that there is nothing that they can do and to call the disconnect department because they can work with me more. So I call the disconnect department expressing my displeasure and letting them know that they are about to lose two customers they ask for the account number and about two minutes later I am told that my parents service has been disconnect and what is my account number. Ha! Some help they are. A great way to treat a customer that has been loyal to you for over five years and got me to sign up with you.
So if that is the game you want to play, fine. I'll be more than happy to take my parents business and my business over to Comcast at the end of the billing cycle. My parents can barely afford to pay their medication. I'll be glad to switch them and myself over to Comcast. They may not let you cancel, but at least they do their damndest to work with you to keep you business—not just tell you that there is nothing they can do and that they cannot creidt your account for the unscruplous practices from sales reps (even though years prior you were able to credit their account for the bullcrap Internet Essentials package that a sales rep. sold them even though they had their own anti-virus software, which is much better than the crap that you offer, for onlu $20 a month).

Hello Miguel,
The camera you specified is not tested and therefore not supported by National Instruments, in other words it does not exists a necessary camera file, and the camera has not been tested with any of our frame grabber boards.
If the camera you wanted use was either a digital parallel camera or a camera link camera you would have the opportunity to produce the camera file yourself with out NI Camera File Generator.
What kind of frame grabber board do you have today?

External DVD Drive to Read Blu-ray / HD DVD

It seems to me the most suitable group for my post, if it's the case, accept my apologies and disregard this post.
Is there a external drive that can play Blu-Ray and HD DVD on a MAC? As anyone here been able to do so already?
I can see an interesting Addonics Zebra Super Multi Blu-ray and HD DVD Drive based on LG GGC-H20N technology apparently that claim it's OS X 10.4 compatible but there is no playback software currently on MAC for Blu-Ray.
I own several MACs, and I'd like to kill a flock of bird with one stone: ideally to get an external drive I can use with either of them, that can burn CD/DVD, that could play Blu-Ray and HD-DVD movies, and (that would be the Graal as I lived in both Europe and USA and own several zones DVDs) can be/become region free.
Anyone going through the same research/investigation?

I don't own a Blueray Burner yet since it isn't supported on most macs. But if I were to consider Blueray then I look into Roxio Toast or DVDSP.
Roxio Toast will allow you read / write Blueray on a Mac (so I've read) but it will not allow for playback apparently (not without some improvements to apple's DVD Player app).

Automated Web Service Discovery with Java

Hi,
I am doing research on Dynamic Web Service Discovery. For that I have to code some implementation. I need to do the following things:
- Code a J2SE application in which I give the name of web service and/or the required function name.
- The application dynamically discovers related webservices on the internet.
- Displays the results for the available Web Services
Please suggest any other standard for Dynamic Web Service Discovery that can be used in Java.
I have seen some tutorials using WSDP1.5/2.0 but they are rather old dating back to 2002. I have also seen JAXR, but again it refers to WSDP1.5/2.0
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

CSM (Cisco Security Manager) automated policy discovery

Hi,
Does anybody know if it possible to automate a policy discovery on a group of objects?
Essentially I have two CSM servers running in seperate locations, one primary and one secondary and want the secondary to do an automated policy discovery on a number of ASAs to keep the secondary database/policies up to date.
I can't find any obvious way to do this.

Requirements:
To install Security Manager in a dual-node HA environment, you need two servers that can access a shared storage array.
Unfortunately this is not an option for the current setup, which is why I am having to revert to a active/active type setup.
The secondary CSM will be happy if it does a policy discovery. It's just a matter of finding out how to get this automated discovery on a regular basis.

Java Operational Research / Scheduling -- Automated Coursework Scheduling

Im currently undertaking a Final Year Project for my final year within my university course. The project that I have come up with to uses scheduling techniques in the implementation of a time-management system for students that automates the realistic allocation of free time for doing assignments, to ensure their time is managed effectively. Students will be allowed to apply constraints to when work must not/preferably not be carried out. Unlike Outlook this application will place where it thinks it is the most appropriate place to do the coursework after the user has setup their default constraints when the program is first set up.
The questions that I ask to potential user is what type of constraints would the user being looking for? Below I have a few examples:
Constraints
     1) Not to do coursework at a certain time.
     2) Not to do coursework for an extended period of time.
     3) Want to finish coursework coursework a number of days/week before deadline.
     4) Make it so certain coursework's have priorities over others.
     5) Make it so that coursework that is spread over a certain number of days.
Also what features would people want in this type of program that mages your coursework? Below are a few examples that
I have come up with:
Send Email/SMS alerts reminding students when lessons/coursework are/is due.
Track module performance via a visual aid.
My supervisor told me to ask around people to see what type of features they would be interested in instead of just having my own perspective.
So I ask the Question of what features would you like in this type of program?

Cisco Building Automation Technology

Good afternoon,
I am researching into the building automation technologies that Cisco offers for our buisness. We are a university campus in Ontario, Canada and theoretically I am proposing the Energywise solution, which means that we would need to replace all (over 150) switches in our residences accross campus. I am currently waiting on a Cisco contact which I was told would come in "5-7 buisness days" however I am hoping you all here can help me as well.
I am looking into what components would be necessary for us to install/replace throughout the campus to have the Energywise solution work.
To use Energywise to control lighting, HVAC, etc. in the offices for the Housing and Residences (we are not looking into that for the entire campus - just our offices, for the current time - except for video survillance that will be incorperated), it is required that we purchase Cisco's Network Building Medators. How, exactly, do these connect to the electricity systems? It would seem as though there would be a converter from electricity to IP however I cannot find information on that anywhere. Do any of you know how that may work?
Also, does Energywise only work for Cisco products? For example:
     1. We currently have Nortel IP Phones in the offices. Would these have to be replaced with Cisco devices in order to install 3rd party applications to use the automation technology? I believe another option would to use PC applications instead of using IP Phone applications, does this theory seem reasonable?
     2. We are looking into installing a new surveillance system as well. Would the cameras and the technology to monitor and control the cameras have to be Cisco and running Cisco technology, or, as long as they are connected to the IP network through Cisco switches, would the suffice?
There are some starting questions that I have been searching for the last couple days.

I don't have any experience with the mediators, but I'll see what I can dig up. I think I can answer some of your other questions though.

I'll put on my sales hat "You must replace everything that isn't Cisco!".....OK hat is now off. You can use Energywise with Nortel phones. You actually reduce/remove the power at the switch level where the PoE is supplied. There may be enhancements with using a Cisco phone, but it will work with any IP phones (wireless access points too).      2. We are looking into installing a new surveillance system as well. Would the cameras and the technology to monitor and control the cameras have to be Cisco and running Cisco technology, or, as long as they are connected to the IP network through Cisco switches, would the suffice?
Again you could control the cameras with the switch, but by integrating Cisco IP surveillance, the value of your investment greatly increases. Here's an example. Let's say you have a camera by the fire alarm which is right inside the door (typical location). When the alarm is pulled....well that's it, the alarm went off. Leveraging a Cisco infrastructure, here is what could happen: The alarm is pulled, as soon as that is pulled, the camera powers on and starts recording. You now have video evidence of who pulled the alarm. What happens if they were wearing a mask or bad lighting, etc? If you're using Cisco card access, you can now correlate who was last through the door. The video and swipe access is now archived and time stamped for later investigation and possibly evidence. You can also have it call the fire department, your facilities people, the CEO, send an email, flash the display on an IP Phone (must be Cisco), etc. You can even have it conference all the previous listed people together.
