SRE External Gig port for WCCP traffic?

Has anyone been successful with using the external Gig port on the SRE modules for WCCP traffic?  Has anyone tried it?
I'd like to reduce the CPU on my ISR-G2 routers that have the SRE modules running WCCP GRE.  I'd like to use the external gig port on the SRE module for the WCCP traffic, which will allow me to use WCCP L2.  Is this even feasible?  Or maybe I just need to add WCCP L2 on an SRE as a New Feature request to Cisco?
According the to Cisco documentation....
The external service-module interface can be used to monitor LAN traffic. You can also select the external interface as the management interface for the SM. The external interface cannot be used for downloading applications.
Visible only to the SM software on the Cisco SM-SRE, the external service-module interface is the Gigabit Ethernet interface connector on the Cisco SM-SRE faceplate. The external interface supports data requests and data transfers from outside sources, and it provides direct connectivity to the LAN through an RJ-45 connector.

Tammy,
What is preventing you from configuing WAAS on SRE with L2 WCCP / Mask assignment via the internal interface?   This is totally feasible.
If you are trying to decrease CPU utilization on your router, don't expect switching from GRE to L2 to make a drastic difference.  The ISR G2 is a software based platform, as such WCCP (whether L2 or GRE) is processed by the CPU with CEF assistance.
True removing the GRE encapsulation will save some processing overhead, but in the end it's the PPS (packets per second) your router is handling that's driving the CPU.
Remember when you add WCCP / WAAS to the flow it's no longer packet in/ packet out on the router.  Compressed data in on WAN, out to WAAS, uncompressed from WAAS back to Router, out on the LAN, then the reverse... uncompressed data on the LAN in to the router, out to WAAS, compressed from WAAS out to the router, then out on the WAN.  So depending on the compression observed you will see > 2x the amount of traffic being processed by the router.

  • Change Outbound Port for certain traffic

    Hi,
I am trying to do a specific task and not being able to figure out what I need to do. Essentially, I would like the Cisco IOS router (3945) to change all DNS traffic going outbound, to use port 54 instead of the standard port 53.
Setup is very simple. One inside Interface and One Outside interface. Internal addressing on the inside with PAT for internet access. I would like that whenever an internal client makes a DNS request. When the router forwards that to the DNS server on the internet, it should send it to port 54 instead of 53.
    Appreciate the help.

It's based on where you're going to see the traffic from. If you want to translate inside -> outside, you'll use "ip nat inside". Outside would be when you're wanting to translate an outside source to something else internal.
    *Edit*
It also depends on what interfaces you have labeled as "ip nat outside" and "ip nat inside".
    ip nat outside source list:
translates the source of the IP packets that are traveling outside to inside
translates the destination of the IP packets that are traveling inside to outside
    ip nat inside source list:
translates the source of IP packets that are traveling inside to outside
translates the destination of the IP packets that are traveling outside to inside

There has never been a reliable firewire ---> USB adapter suitable for external high speed storage.  This was a major issue when the MacBooks lost the firewire port a number of years ago (Apple subsequently brought it back).
The only high speed port on the Air is the ThunderBolt port.  There are external ThunderBolt drive options out there, but they're somewhat more expensive than traditional USB/FireWire options.

  • Administration port - network channel for admin traffic

I am trying to configure a separate channel for Administration traffic on weblogic. I followed the oracle docos and configured the SSL, domain wide admin port, server listen address, ‘admin’ channel.
The issue is admin traffic in not happening through the newly created channel.
L2 network is not getting used. I can’t see any activity in the monitoring tab of new Channel. Also the netstat is showing that the port 9101/9102 is getting used on the 192.168.100.218 and not on 10.254.252.849.
I also tried by setting up the newly created channel weight as 51, but no luck.
Is JMX connectivity related to admin channel?
Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi
For first question the answer is no. With the administration port, you enable the SSL between the admin server and Node manager-managed Servers. You can still use the web console.
For teh second question, you can use ANT or can use the WLS Scripting ..you can get more details in dev2dev.bea.com

  • Identify Ports for AD - External UDP port scanner

    Greetings all,
I am trying to figure out which UDP port is alarming on the "AD - External UDP port scanners (13005)" signature. By default, the signature is set to summarize which looks something like this "NumDestIps=100; currentTHreshold=100. protocol=1".
From the "Protocol = 1" line I am assuming all scanning is hitting up on a single destination protocol - I need to know which protocol / port number.
I've already attempted to turn on "log attacker, pair, and victim" packets. Verbose is not an option for this signature. I have also tried changing alert Frequency to "fire all" or just uncheck the "Summary Mode" box. None of this tells me the destination/victim port. I do see under a protocol field "ICMP" but i don't believe that pertains to the source port. Any ideas on how I might find this information?

TCP/445 is used by Microsoft file sharing (CIFS), and by default that port is opened on all Microsoft PC basically to allow file sharing.
If you open up DOS prompt, and type: netstat -na, you would see that your PC is by default listening on TCP/445.
Here is more information on Microsoft-DS (TCP/445):
    http://www.linklogger.com/TCP445.htm
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Server_Message_Block
So it really depends on your corporate security policy, whether to allow file sharing or not within the network. IPS is picking that up because it is an easier way of exploiting a PC since the port is opened by default.

Looks like you may have found a bug in the switch code, then.  I don't see anything relevant, but you are running fairly old code, and the problem may have been silently fixed in a newer release.  You should open a TAC service request so more analysis can be done.

  • Ports for External Connection

Hi, i have one problem, i dont know what's ports i need to open in my modem for one user in other network connect in my network. I need to make a NAT for this, but i need to know apple remote port for external connection. And sorry for my english, bad.
    thank's.

You need to open TCP and UDP port 3283 and, for ARD 2.0 and later, TCP and UDP port 5900. For encrypted file transfer (ARD 3.x), open TCP port 22. You may also need to open TCP (and perhaps UDP) 5988 and 5989, though it's not clear under what circumstances this will be necessary.
Forum Tip: Since you're new here, you've probably not discovered the Search feature available on every Discussions page, but next time, it might save you time (and everyone else from having to answer the same question multiple times) if you search a couple of ways for a topic, both in the relevant forums, in the User Tips Library and in the Apple Knowledge Base before you post a question.

This is not really Firefox related.

    Hi
Create 1 or more External Instrument tracks as required.
You could send the MIDIFile to a track set to "All" MIDI channels, or if needed, you could split the file by channel and create indivisual tracks for each.

  • Which USB port for extra power for external Superdrive?

I just bought an external USB slimline optical drive that doesn't use AC power, instead it comes with a USB Y-connector so that it can use two USB ports for power.  I can't really spare the extra port.  I read that the Mac mini 2011 is compatible with the Apple USB Superdrive.  It does this by supplying additional power over USB, like the MacBook Air.  I've tried my drive with just a single port and it powers on and can do some stuff, but suddenly it'll crap out and the OS will tell me the disk was removed without being ejected.  I've determined it's a power issue.  Does anyone know which port in particular the extra power is delivered through?  I'd test myself, but I'm afraid I may be damaging the optical drive when it craps out.

  • Using 2801 for web/traffic monitoring

We have a 'guest' internet network that is open for anyone who is a 3rd party and/or guest in our building. This is a seperate vlan and basically just pipes them out to the internet so they can access their company email etc. Currently, we have a old Linksys router running this show and it's getting tired looking. We have a spare 2801 router and I was wondering if it is possible to monitor connections, traffic or some sort of log of what's going on/whos connecting to what external IPs and ports.
I know we could leverage nbar, I guess netflow? On the linksys there is an inbound/outbound access log that quickly tells you local IP -> external IP & port so you can quickly check whos connecting to what..
Apart from possibly netflow and some 3rd party software to view the data, anything quick and dirty I can use direct on the router itself? (It will also be handing out DHCP and services this network alone, so there is no other 'infrastructure' involved , so to speak)
    cheers,

  • Can I use an External Hard Drive for both my Powerbook ad my PC?

I would like to purchase an external hard drive for safety reasons.
Can I store both information of my PC and my Powerbook on the same ext. hard drive? Probably a dumb question but I'd still like to know...
    Thanks in advance.
    Milli.

Any should do. Buy an external enclosure, purchase a bare drive of your choice, do your own installation. Takes 5 minutes. Save a little money. It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.) You can purchase hard drives separately. This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice. Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu. You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available. You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports. I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.) You can find enclosures at places such as;
    Cool Drives
    OWC
    WiebeTech
    Firewire Direct
    California Drives
    NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover. Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.
