SRS5 EA1 - SLES 10 SP2 Numlock always on

I've done a fresh install of SLES10 SP2 and then put SRS5 EA1 on top. It went very smoothly with no problems.
Having XRender available in Xnewt is great as CrossOver Office needs it to properly display the icons in Word etc:
http://www.codeweavers.com/support/tickets/browse/?ticket_id=718514
One slight issue is that the numlock is always on. I cannot turn it off by pressing the numlock key as normal.
Any ideas?
Cheers
Andy

I'm starting to roll out SRSS5 on SLES10 SP2 across my users and see that the problem with Numlock still exists.
utxconfig -k off
Logging off and back in again and I can toggle the numlock light by pressing the tab key. Rather confusing to an average user who is used to using the numlock button itself!
I guess the ideal situation would be that numlock works as it should do and we can get numeric input or directional keys / Home / Page Up etc as is normal on a keyboard.
Now the full version of SRSS5 is out does anyone have an idea why this problem occurs and if there is a solution for it?
Best Regards
Andy

    Hello,
Does anybody knows if there are some issues when running FLEXCUBE 12.0.3.0.0 on Linux SLES 11 SP2/SP3 with kernel 3.0.x
There is nothing mentioned in the pre-requisites about kernel version.

There should not be any problems with monitoring SLES 10 SP4 or SLES 11 SP2/SP3. If you are getting a "platform not supported" error, it may be that the right management packs have not successfully imported. Can you give more details on when

I'm using ECC 6.0 SR3 fresh downloaded instalallation disks and DB6 9.5 from SAP service.sap.com.

Finally i've resolved this problem. You can't use /db2/SID/sapdata(n) directory as a your sapinst installation directory becouse sapinst is setting strange access rights to whole /db2/SID tree and sidadm user can't do any activity below.
It's my first SAP DB6 based instalallation (i've done dozen of times on Oracle and there it was possible) and this is new for me.
Note 967123 is describing this problem "ABAP: Error in step extractMigrationMonitorArchive
The installation aborts in step extractMigrationMonitorArchive.
    Solution:
Download a patch of MIGMON.SAR from the SAP service marketplace
(for more information see SAP note 784118) and extract the archive as
user <sapsid>adm into the current installation directory
(using SAPCAR with the option '-xvf')
Then restart SAPinst or re-execute the step."
And it looks that user sidadm is unpacking MIGMON.SAR.
    Thanks for hints.

  • Cisco VSM 7.5 and SLES 11 SP2

Is it possible for Cisco VSM 7.5 to be installed on a server running SLES 11 SP2?  All documentation and even software download lead me to believe no, but I wanted a second knowing.

It may technically function, but I haven't tried it myself.
Also, I can all but assure you it wouldn't be supported by Cisco TAC.

  • Upgrade SLES SuSE9 SP4 - SLES SuSE10 SP2

    Hello SAP on Linux forum,
We must upgrade our MaxDB SAP System Landscape Servers (> 100 servers) running on Novell SLES SuSE9 SP4 to Novell SLES SuSE10 SP2.
We want to upgrade with minimal manual intervention.
I've read the SAP notes: 958253 and 1275776 and also the Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise
Server Installation and Administration Guide May 2008
Does anyone has some hint and tips how to upgrade our large environment? Are there some lessons learned? Tools which support an automatic upgrade?
    Please advise.
    Best Regards,
    Mike Laanen

    Hello Hannes,
Thank you for your reply, we allready asked Novell, see the following correspondention:
"In doing some research the officially supported methods of upgrading from SLES 9 SP2 to SP3 are to use YOU (YaST updates) and by using the CD/DVD.  Novell does offer a new update tool SMT (Subscription Management Tool) but it is more geared to replace a YOU server than an automated upgrade like you are looking for.  In my research I couldn't find a tool that would perform the task you are wanting.  Autoyast looked promising but in speaking with some of the autoyast engineers their initial optimism faded as potential problems came to light.
Because autoyast was build to perform installs getting it to change and do upgrades is questionable.  We are unsure how autoyast will react to software conflicts, how it may handle trying to upgrade partitions with data already on them, etc.  The potential for problems with autoyast are high which may leave you with a down server in an unrecoverable state.  We haven't tested autoyast in these conditions so the unknowns are many.  Using autoyast in this way is not supported.
Most of the engineers I spoke with recommended creating a SP 3 install source.  Then boot the server up off of the SP 3 media and point it to the SP 3 install source and select the upgrade option.  This does require some manual steps but will be faster than swapping media in and out of the CD.
    Best of luck,

So unfortunately NO support from Novell to perform an automatic upgrade of our systemlandscape (> 100 servers).

  • Installing OES 11 on SLES 11 SP2

We originally setup a GroupWise 2012 server on SLES 11 SP2 server without OES 11, thinking we would be able to use SAMBA as our File server later. Our computer consultant convinced us to go the OES route so we now have a SLES11 SP1 / OES 11 server and a SLES 11 SP2 / GroupWise 2012 server.
How hard is it to install OES 11 on the SLES 11 SP2 server with GroupWise 2012?
What steps would I need to take to get this done?
    Thanks,
    Ken

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that would be what was needing to be done from reading how OES and SLES work together.
    Thanks again,

Success is more likely if the SLES install has not been patched which
considering SLES11 SP2 has been out for a while (and now superseded by
    SLES11 SP3) would seem unlikely.

  • Unable to monitor SLES 10 SP4,SLES 11 SP3 and SLES 11 SP2 via SCOM 2012 R2

    Hi ,
I am unable to get SLES 10 SP4, SLES 11 SP3 and  SLES 11 SP2 under SCOM 2012 R2 monitoring. The PAM ,glibc and openssl are at the right versions.
Per the documentation SCOM MP for unix/Linux provides monitoring of SUSE Linux Enterprise
Server 9, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP1, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 operating systems. Does this mean it cannot monitor SP2, SP3 and SP4 for the same Operating systems?
Plat form not supported is the error which I get.
    Thank you much,

There should not be any problems with monitoring SLES 10 SP4 or SLES 11 SP2/SP3. If you are getting a "platform not supported" error, it may be that the right management packs have not successfully imported. Can you give more details on when
you get the error, and the management pack versions that you have installed?  And what Update Rollup (UR) for OpsMgr do you have installed?  The latest is UR4, and the Linux/UNIX management packs for UR4 are here:

  • Exchange 2007 SP2: HasActiveSyncDevicePartnership Always Returns True

I am currently work with a customer in an Exchange Server 2007 SP2 environment. A Powershell script that is used for gathering mobile device information begins with at the mailbox level and filters with
HasActiveSyncDevicePartnership equal to true, as in -
    Get-casmailbox -Filter {HasActivesyncDevicePartnership -eq $true }
We have discovered that it appears as though this flag is set to true for every mailbox account, despite the fact that only a few mailboxes have actual EAS partnerships with devices.
My understanding was that this flag should only ever return true if there is an actual ActiveSync partnership. Is there something I am missing here? Can the flag be true even if there is no (or has never been) a partnership?
Don Sorcinelli - Microsoft MVP, Mobile Devices

    Hi,
Yes, the value of the " HasActiveSyncDevicePartnership " will be set to true if there is an actual ActiveSync partnership. Also you can use the following command to
check the detail sync information such as device name,  last sync time:
    Get-ActivesyncDeviceStatistics -Mailbox [email protected]
If no statistics information returns, The most probable cause
should be that someone set the HasActiveSyncDevicePartnership to true for all mailbox users accidently. Please run the following command to change them back:
    get-casmailbox |set-casmailbox -HasActivesyncDevicePartnership $false
    Then set the
HasActiveSyncDevicePartnership to true for the users who have an actual ActiveSync partnership:
    Set-casmailbox –identity
    [email protected] -HasActivesyncDevicePartnership $true

  • SRS5 EA1 - RHEL53 No audio

Our installation is a full custom installation with every package installed on RHEL 5.3
SRS5 installed with LAN connections on
When you login there is no sound.
RHEL 5.3 standard GNOME interface shows a volume icon in the Desktop but no audio plays out of speaker or through headset.
RHEL 5.3 standard KDE does have its own Sound System which works for KDE's theme soundbytes but no audio in Firefox or any audio player.
RHEL 5.3 Audio Configuration says in both KDE and GNOME that: No soundcards were detected.
utaudio is running and is correct in env
Anyone out there have success getting audio to work in RHEL 5.3 with SRS 5?

For item number 2. Two frameworks for sound exist in the Linux world, the deprecated Open Sound System (OSS; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_Sound_System) and Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Linux_Sound_Architecture) (If someone from Sun is reading this as well, please shape up and add ALSA support, lots of things don't work anymore with OSS).
As said OSS is deprecated and e.g. flash will not work anymore with OSS, unless you hack it. The standard sound daemon also doesn't work with OSS, but it can be made to. Don't worry about voiding support from RedHat. RedHat will still support your system, but do tell them you recompiled the esound package when reporting sound related problems.
Since you are obviously unexperienced with Linux I've put some updated esound packages here:
    http://www.quantumfluctuations.nl/publish/esound/
If you are using i386, only download the i386 version. If you are using x86_64 (find out with uname -a) download them all. Then do "rpm -Uvh esound-*.rpm".
A couple of details still need to be taken care of on RHEL.
The esound daemon puts a socket file in /tmp/.esd. This directory does not exist by default. Add
    if [ ! -d /tmp/.esd ]
    then
    mkdir /tmp/.esd
    fi
to rc.local to add it on reboot.
The SunRay server software puts a lot of other files in /tmp as well. These might get cleaned up by the daily tmpwatch job. If this happens, you can't login on s SunRay anymore. To solve this problem open the file /etc/cron.daily/tmpwatch in your editor and change the line
    -x /tmp/.font-unix -x /tmp/.ICE-unix -x /tmp/.Test-unix -x /tmp/.Test-unix 240 /tmp
    into
    -x /tmp/.font-unix -x /tmp/.ICE-unix -x /tmp/.Test-unix -x /tmp/.Test-unix -x /tmp/SUNWut -x /tmp/.esd 240 /tmp
Make sure your editor doesn't leave any backup files behind in /etc/cron.daily

  • ORA-12157 during dbca on 10.2.0.4 under SLES 10 SP2

    Dear all,
I would like to set up two DBs each in its own ORACLE_HOME running under ASM.
Software installation and ASM setup worked (after some trouble with the multipath storage / ASMLIB). Now I have three separate ORACLE_HOMEs:
    /ocfs/oracle/product/10.2/ASM,
    /ocfs/oracle/product/10.2/SEQ,
    /ocfs/oracle/product/10.2/RESNET.
I can connect to each of them using sqlplus. ASM is up and running.
Now I want ot set up an empty DB in SEQ and RESNET using dbca (or the scripts created by it, if need be).
This worked for SEQ but for RESNET I get ORA-12157 at the last step.
ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, PATH, LD_LIBRARY_PATH, TNS_ADMIN were all set to point to RESNET. TEMP and TMPDIR are set to /tmp which has several GB free space.

  • SLES sp3 w/OES11 sp2 media upgrade reboot to cursor

    Pre-upgrade
Sles 11 SP2, OES11 SP1, VMware 5.1 essentials on an Gen 8 HP Proliant DL380, plenty of RAM and CPU
I ran the upgrade media on a test server and everything seemed to go fine a couple of weeks ago. My school district is on spring break, so I decided to do some upgrades. I ran the update media on our one and only file storage production server. I left the upgrade options default, only updating existing packages (I checked to make sure what we are using was upgraded) and I received no errors during the install. Upon reboot, after the VMware splash screen, it just stays at a cursor in the upper left corner of the screen. I tried to use system repair from the disk. It wanted to reinstall grub, but it hung on installing grub for 20+ minutes. I'm rerunning the repair now. Any other suggestions? I have until Monday to get this fixed. I'm avoiding using my prepaid support hours, but I have them if I need them.

So you originally did an offline upgrade from OES11sp1 to OES11sp2, right?
I'm curious.... do you maybe have a separate partition for /boot?
With what you are saying I can imagine something going wrong with the offline upgrade placing/upgrading boot files in the wrong location (in the /boot folder of the root partition instead of the boot partition), resulting in booting with an old kernel and thus having a mismatch with other files/drivers/libraries that did get updated properly.
Good to hear that you were able to finish the upgrade in good order after having gotten the server boot fixed!

  • SLES Install.... problem getting started. At a loss

I have downloaded the SLES-11-sp2-x86-64-gm-DVD1 and DVD2 and burned the .iso's to a 2 disk set. I verified the disks and read the "readme" file on the dvd1 disk that says to insert and boot off of this disk. I have a fresh 2TB Seagate HD for a new install w/ 37gb windows partition and balance unformatted. Intel i5 processor on the new server. Boot sequence is set to CD/DVD player as first boot. When I try to boot all I get is the error "no operating system found. Press any key to repeat boot sequence." I know the boot sequence of drives is set correctly because boot disks for other op systems work fine as a test.
What am I doing worg this time???

So, might be talking to myself here but really need some advise.
The SLES-11-sp2-x86-64-gm-DVD1 I burned the .iso for did finally boot. Burned it off on another computer DVD burner.
I go through all of the install process, booting with the SLES....DVD 1. I am using a fresh 2TB disk this time(s) with all unallocated spce. The install goes through without showing any errors and then goes to the countdown to re-boot and re-boots. Re-booting with the DVD-1 disk removed, I still get the error "No operating system found. Press any key to repeat boot sequence." Which will not go away.
So, if I try again and put the SLES-11....DVD-1 install disk back in beforre-booting , re-boot and go to "repair installation" instead of new installation and then to "automatic repairs", I get a message under "Check File Systems" that says:
"Installing Kernal Modules for File System Support"
Loading failed for kernal modules: ntfs problematic
The auto repair does not allow boot file to be created and I'm stuck.
Still at sqaure one, just the other side of the square.
Still really needing help. If I don't get any replies, I'll try a new thread.
    Thanks

  • Installation 9.2.0.4 on SLES 10.2

I am trying to install 9iR2 on SLES 10 SP2 with no success :-(
    According to SLES_9_to_SLES_10_Oracle_Development
linuxthread support is removed in SLES10 i.e. only NPTL support causes Oracle 9iR2 and older products not to work with SLES10
I used to have a working SLES 10 (with no SP) with 9.2 running, but it seems LD_ASSUME_KERNEL is now unusable in SLES10SP2
    SLES 10 SP2 RELEASE NOTES
    LD_ASSUME_KERNEL Environment Variable
Do not set the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL environment variable any longer. In the past, it was possible to use it to enforce LinuxThreads support, which was dropped. If you set LD_ASSUME_KERNEL to a kernel version lower than 2.6.5, everything breaks because ld.so looks for libraries in a version that does not exist anymore.
    $ date
    Sun Jul 27 14:39:44 CEST 2008
    $ export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.21
    $ date
date: error while loading shared libraries: librt.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryAny hint? the installation just hangs on naeet.o.
    Thanks

    Hi Dan,
    Thanks for your answer.
    I have 10.1.0.5, 10.2.0.4 and 11.1.0.6 running.
9.2.0.8 is in extended support until July 2010 ( http://www.oracle.com/support/library/brochure/lifetime-support-technology.pdf ) so it is perfectly legitimate to install and maintain it.
My upcoming book covers those four releases, I wish I could find a hack to get this 9i running...
SLES is a supported platform. However the issue seems to be related to LinuxThreads. Note that I may face similar issue with the latest EL5 (which does not explicitly support 9i).
Well, I want to have all versions running on the same OS. I prefer "wasting my time" here asking for help rather than switching to RedHat.
    YMMV
    Thanks
    Laurent
PS: about reading the doc: upgrading the operating system by applying a service patch that is newer than the doc will not help too much ... even 11g shows only 10.0 in the installation guide !!! (and of course applying SP2 will not break your Oracle Installation) There is at most a time delay between the release of the os vendor service packaging and the update of certification notes

  • Vibe and SLES 11 SP3?

Is anyone using vibe 3.4 on SLES 11 SP3 and know if it is a supported platform? We are currently running vibe 3.4 on SLES 11 SP2 and are looking to upgrade the O/S. The documentation says the latest support pack, but I'm not sure if vibe 3.4 or sp3 for SLES came out first?
    Thank you for your help.
