SRSS 4 U 2 prototype in Kiosk mode

Hi,
Anyone knows how to get rid of those first-launch prompts for all installed applications in Kiosk mode (known as CAM mode in early version)?
I know that you are able to do this by creating prototype: open the application, answer all questions, set your setting, close the application, copy over the whole directory (ie. '.adobe' for Adobe Reader) to a specific directory. Then, fill a value of the specific directory to the variable 'KIOSK_APP_PROTOTYPE' in your descriptor file (*.conf file which resides in /etc/opt/SUNWkio/applications) but to no avail.
I have even restarted the Kiosk session and checked using a terminal to make sure the prototype directory(ies) created exist before any application is being started, but the application still prompts me. Anyone willing to share their experience?
Thanks,
Jonathan

Are you able to get rid of the "accepting agreement" dialog for Adobe Reader every time kiosk unit connects?

  • Sunray 5.2 Kiosk mode - Creation of Submenu's?

    Hi folks,
Looking for a solution to a problem we have encountered. Looking to create our own menu structure on our thin client kiosk sessions.
At the moment, we are running Sun JDS3 on our sunrays, using an application list to run some programs. They all appear under an "applications" tab on the menu, and I'm looking for a way to add additional menu items into there. Have been trawling the net looking for some solutions, but no luck as of yet.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in Advance,
    George

    hi sorry for delay
as per the this default sunray kiosk mode their is two way's that you can change, either you can rename the "Applications" option or you can change to another option "Setting" but you must have to select any one. as per this design.
    I . for Rename:
    #cd /etc/opt/SUNWkio/prototypes/jds3/.kiosk/menus/applications
    #vi .directory
    [Desktop Entry]
    Name=Applications -> <any name>
    Comment=Kiosk Applications
    Icon=gnome-applications
    Type=Directory
    or
    # mv /etc/opt/SUNWkio/prototypes/jds3/.kiosk/menus/applications /etc/opt/SUNWkio/prototypes/jds3/.kiosk/menus/meapplications
II. if you want to change the default selection you can change hear.
    # vi /etc/opt/SUNWkio/sessions/jds3/applauncher
<find the below line in this script file.
    KIOSKMENUDIR=$HOME/.kiosk/menus
KIOSKAPPMENUDIR=$KIOSKMENUDIR/Applications -> Setting (example: change the application to setting it will added in this setting by default.)
In addition to that you can create your Owen kiosk application as per your recruitment for that review the kiosk application documents.

  • Problem hotdesking regular session but kiosk mode works fine. Why ?

I have Sun Ray Server 4.2 on RHEL5.
I have the users smart cards configured to use kiosk mode which gives them a Windows desktop via Citrix.
As an admin I have a smart card which is configured to use the regular session which provides the Linux desktop.
Smart cards which are configured to use the kiosk mode, i.e. Citrix, can hotdesk without any problems but any smart cards which are configured to use the regular mode do not work. When you try moving to a new DTU (Sun Ray 2FS client) the connection screen shows it as connected and then a second later it disconnects. It then reconnects a second later and then another second later it disconnects again. This continues for ever. Even if you try re-inserting the smart card in the original DTU the session was started on it does the same connect, disconnect, reconnect, disconnect, etc, etc. All I can then do is to go back to the server and kill the session.
This is a major problem as I want to configure a MultiHead Group and to do this I need to plug the same smart card in to each of the DTU's that will form the group.
Any ideas how I can rectify this would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Mark.

The described behavior indicates that the 'Sun Ray Session Lock' login dialog fails to start.
Please check, if you have installed all the [documented prerequisites|http://wikis.sun.com/display/SRSS4dot2/Additional+Software+Requirements] for SRSS, in particular the openmotif22 package (32-bit version!). You can also try 'ldd /opt/SUNWut/lib/loginGUI' to directly check for missing libraries.
If you can't get the loginGUI to work, you can also disable session access protection on hotdesking: check the 'Direct Session Access Allowed' checkbox on the Advanved/Policy page of the Admin GUI or use the -D option with utpolicy. Beware that this reduces session security on hotdesking (for both kiosk and non-kiosk sessions) significantly.

  • How Configure Kiosk Mode to join an other linux server (by Xnest)

    Hello,
I have a sun-ray server (srss 5.2 on Centos 5.6). I want my sun-ray clients to join a linux server by my sun-ray server. I think I can do that by using 'Kiosk Mode' with Xnest.
Can you explain me how I can configure Kiosk Mode with a Xnest Session ?
Are there some sites which deals about Kiosk mode configuration with examples ?
    Thans in advance,
    Alex

    Hi Leo Laohoo
I think it is getting IP address
    Not in Bound state.

    *Mar  1 00:04:18.127: %CAPWAP-3-ERRORLOG: Invalid event 38 & state 2 combination.

it saids it is getting the 10.0.0.13, but can not discover the WLC.... why it is not discovering it???
    that's my problem.
The AP is directly connected into the switch. there is no more connections beside this one. the WLC (Catalyst 3850) hasta the DHCP configuration, so, I don´t need an external DHCP server.
How do I know that the WLC module is enable on the Catalyst??? I activate the 90 ap evaluation license.

  • Kiosk Mode in 4.2 on RHEL5: "No profile for user 'utku1' found" ?

    Hello,
After upgrading from SRSS 4.1 to 4.2 EA2 on RHEL5 I experience that all attempts of Kiosk sessions to start fail with an error "No profile for user 'utku1' found" being logged in /var/opt/SUNWkio/home/utku1/.xsession-errors, and also displayed in a popup on desktop.
I have disabled the Kiosk mode, then deleted all Kiosk accounts with ./utconfig -k, and re-created them. Then I have verified that the users exist in /etc/passwd, and that their login directories exist with the correct permissions (they are created by utconfig).
Still, after a reboot of the SunRay server the error persists. Also, I have noticed that the home directories of utku? users disappear once a thin client has attempted to login unsuccessfully using such a Kiosk user.
Searching in the relevant forums and googling did not hit me with a clue-stick so far. Is this a problem related to SRSS itself, or actually a problem the configuration GTK desktop?
    Thank you for any hint.
    Rolf

I had the same problem a few minutes ago.
My configuration is a Sun Ray server running on RHEL 5.4, configured in Kiosk mode and forwarding connections to a Windows 2003 terminal server.

Notice the message about the libcrypto
In RHEL 5.4 there is libcrypto.so.0.9.8e
I created a symbolic link like this:
    n -s /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8e /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7 and I performed a cold restart on the sun ray.
Connections to the Windows server work now.
On the other hand if i wish to allow connections to the Linux server itself, then I unconfigure the kiosk policy.
    I hope this helps.

  • How to disable dangerous options in on screen keyboard in kiosk mode?

    Hello,
I'm trying to make a kiosk like application based on Windows 7. I run locked down IE in kiosk mode and that's quite OK.
However when I run the OSK.exe (on screen keyboard) - it has two dangerous buttons: Options (where I can click on "Control whether the On-Screen Keyboard starts when I log on" link and then run Windows explorer, and Help (where I can go to Options, and then
click on "Read the privacy statement online" link that brings me fresh IE).
Is there way to disable in OSK those two buttons?
For instance, when I run OSK on logon screen it hides the Help button and the dangerous link in the Options button, so it's possible at least for MS. Is it possible for plain customers?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nikolai.
    WBR, Nikolai

    Hi,
Based on my test and research, I’m afraid that the two options of On-screen Keyboard may not be disabled.
    Instead, you can use
Tablet PC Input Panel and see how it works.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to launch a single URL in a locked windowed-kiosk mode?

We need to launch a specific URL in Firefox in a windowed-kiosk mode.
If this can be done via a command-line that would be great. The Company want to restrict the use of the browser to this one specific URL and only allow close controls on the opened app window.
    Is this possible?

My iMac suddenly no longer connects to wifi network when in KIOSK (username) mode, and only connects when as ADMINISTRATOR mode. Its strange because the iMac has been working fine in KIOSK mode for over a year until 2 days ago.

One of the memory cards was indeed faulty, and the other completely fine
Thanks very much for all your help!
Although there is one little thing that I've noticed. The iMac works properly, but I tried to software update to see if that may help my Minecraft sound issue (as I still don't think only having 2GB instead of 4GB would cause such a problem) but the software update application won't work. Running the "Software Update" from the apple menu on the toolbar gains no response, nothing happens. If I run the software update from  system preferences, the application icon appears for a second, then disappears (as in the blank app. icon, the blank canvas with the pencil, pen and ruler in the bottom right corner). It does this every time I try to run it. It did work when the computer was crashing, but this started when on one of the occasions I ran the app. while it was crashing. Since this occured during the crashes, and still occurs now, I'm wondering did something simlar happen minecraft, as it's sound disappeared during the crashes and is still gone now.
However, the computer is now working again without crashes, which is the main thing, thanks for helping me fix the issue
Edit: I would mark the topic as solved, but I'm unsure if this would lock the topic or something simlar, so I'd rather leave it open for any ideas regarding the software update and Minecraft issues I'm having

  • Windows 8.1 Update 1 Kiosk Mode difference

We have a number of stations running modern IE on Windows 8.1 in Kiosk Mode. I ran the in-place upgrade on a few of them to test Windows 8.1 Update 1.  Everything runs fine except that hitting the Windows key 5 times no longer takes you to the login
screen. Is this by design or just something that was over looked? I also noticed that Crt+Alt+Del works and though I haven't gone back to the original machines that have not been upgraded yet, I believe this didn't used to work.

    Hi,
    Sorry for late reply.
Based on my test,we didn't meet this issue.
I suggest that we check the Group policy  first.

  • Complete newbie wanting to add kiosk mode...

    Hi.
I need someone to hold my hand!!!!
I am making a website and I am a composer. I want to disable the ability to drag and drop the audio from my site as well as lose the save/save as dialogues from the quick time menus. I have found that adding kioskmode will do this, but it means writing some code into my site.
I have tried writing code in to place statcode, but can't get it right.
I don't understand what stage you write the code in. Do you write the code, then publish the pages, or publish the pages then edit the code?
I tried to edit the .html pages with text.app, but although i could view source code, it was like looking at someone else's site, in that i couldn't edit the code. It just made a pinging noise if i tried!
So how do i add this kiosk mode - how do i edit the code?
    David Tobin

    Publish your page(s) using iWeb.
Open TextEdit and then its preferences.
Change to "plain" text and to "ignore HTML".
Open the published .js file for the page (found in the blah_files folder).
This is where you edit code and save your changes.

  • Can't put IE Metro into full kiosk mode Win 8.1 Enterprise or set IE desktop as default in Assigned Access

I have searched everywhere for this answer.  Kiosk mode/assigned access is excellent.  But it appears that you can only use IE Modern (Metro) for assigned access and the problem with that is I have found no way to completely lock down IE Modern.
I can only partially lock it down but users can still get to the address bar and settings very easily.
I either need some advice on setting IE to complete lockdown or how to set IE desktop for Assigned  Access.

I am afraid there is no such feature in metro IE. Maybe you could submit a feedback to
    IE connect

  • Desire firefox kiosk mode where full screen allows an exit (other than ALT + F4) only one URL required for company timesheet entry. No optons. No navigation.

using win 7 x86 SP1, firefox 18 with kiosk add-in r_kiosk-0.9.0-fx.xpi . Full screen kiosk mode uses one URL to company time entry sheet. Firefox is not company standard and needs to be provided for this purpose only. We're adept at virtualized delivery via AppV and have a solution BUT.... Really like the lack of toolbars providing no option to the user. No right click, no navigation. Perfect except there's no close or exit option except keyboard stroke such as ALT+F4. I'm not talented enough to modify the XPI file to provide a full screen kiosk BUT with a close option simple enough for 3500 end users. Advice appreciated.

Thank You David. The add-on you are suggesting is exactly the kiosk add-on specified in the question. That is the one that does not have a close button. Thank You again for researching this.

  • JDS Kiosk Mode in Solaris

    Hi,
Not 100% sure this is the correct forum for this, but here goes..
Looking for a solution to a problem we have encountered. We are looking to create our own menu structure on our thin client kiosk sessions.
At the moment, we are running Sun JDS3 on our sunrays, in kiosk mode, using an application list to run some programs. They all appear under an "applications" tab on the menu, and I have added an additional sub menu, named settings. I'm not sure how to add certain applications into this new 'settings' sub menu, instead of them defaulting to the applications menu. Have been trawling the net looking for some solutions, but no luck as of yet.

  • Can I run an iMac G3 266 in Kiosk mode?

I have an old iMac G3 266 that I want to donate to the local YMCA.
They need something to have for members to complete an online form.
The computer is running OS 8.6.
Is there a way I can:
    1) Run it in kiosk mode and have it go to one website
    OR
    2) Upgrade it to OS X and run it in kiosk mode
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I suggest checking out iCab. See icab.de
    "Kiosk mode
While in Kiosk mode, iCab will cover the whole screen and all other applications are blocked. The Kiosk mode is the ideal environment when the computer is accessing a public place (like fairs, exhibitions, hotels etc.) where users should be able to obtain information, yet prevent any external access to your system. Additionally, the access can be restricted to certain pages (even refusing referrals, if you choose)."

  • How can I operate Reader X in "Kiosk" mode?

    What I need to do:
Open a single document via a command line reference and "lock" Reader from being able to go anywhere else. Initially opening the document is easy enough...just supply the complete pathname to the file on the command line.   I will supply all links that need to open PDF files via separate icons which reference each file's path.  Like I said...this is a "kiosk" type operation and there's only a very small handful of files that need to be served up.
    1) I have used the customization wizard to set everything that I can using that tool... this does not go far enough
    2) I have used javascript to get rid of various menu items that I don't want to appear.
    (I'm almost there now...)
    3) I've got it to the point where the document opens and *almost* all of the menu items I want gone are gone...not all. More on that later...
    4) As it stands right now, the user can close the document by clicking the small "x" in upper right corner...but that presents the Recent File list and worst of all...BROWSE!
I need to get rid of browse capability!  I truly need to lock Reader down to open the one document called on the command line
    Possibliities:
The "A" answer: If the user closes the open document, Reader itself closes
    B) Lock Reader so that it only sees the previous document in a Recent list with no Browse button
    C) Lock Reader so that it can ONLY operate in a given folder
I stated earlier that almost all of the menu items I want to get rid of are gone...I would *like* to get rid of the Comments menu and capability.  Customization wizard has a section that deals with that but apparently it does not do what I'm after because that setting does NOT get rid of the Comments item.  This is strictly a "nice to have" item...really need to find a solution to the other.

Adobe Reader doesn't have a 'kiosk mode', so the only way to achieve it would be to write your own application and embed a Reader instance using the SDK interface.
