SRUDB.dat Event Log - about 117 per hour!
After getting my first Windows 8 Blue Screen (I made it one year and one month from the purchase of a new Lenovo Laptop) I checked the event log. I am getting approximately 2 of these errors EVERY MINUTE!
I looked up what was running under this process id and these are the services:
svchost.exe 1724 BFE, DPS, MpsSvc
Base Filtering Engine, Diagnostic Policy Service, Windows Firewall
Makes me think this is a network driver issue, but my wireless and cabled network both perform well.

What setting is 'DVD quality' widescreen - ie about 3gb per hour?
I have videod (isn't that a such a quaint 20th century word for the podcast age?) a conference and I want to archive the footage to store on a DVD for later reediting.
The "full quality" setting is massive, I only have 90 mins, but a 20 min clip takes up over 10Gb
The 'CD-rom quality' is just not not dvd quality.
(I am using iMovie 06 btw, i will move onto 08 when it is finished)
Ideally, I would just burn the whole lot raw with iDVD and import it again if i need to reedit - but (for copyright as opposed to technical reasons i suppose) we can't just put a dvd in the slot and rip it like we can an audio cd in iTunes. I have tried the workarounds - but none of them worked for me.
Anyway, I digress: What setting is 'DVD quality' widescreen - ie about 3gb per hour?Hi there.
*Keep the quality*
0nce you have compressed data - you can't get the original quality back - so store as full quality as possible - and in several formats so there is always a backup.
Media
data cds don't hold that much - 700mb - so forget about them for quality productions and archiving
dvd-roms hold much more - 4,700mb (you can get dual layer ones that double it)
*'share' settings*
Now, you have 2 options for saving the movie;
1. as a file on a DVD-Rom (a compact .mov or a massive.dv)
2. as a proper playable DVD (iDVD)
If the "full quality" iM setting is too big a file for a dvd-rom (and you will be lucky to get 10 mins of footage in 4.7gb), then you could 'iDVD' it and that way you will get a good quality movie up to nearly 2 hours on a disc disc that can be played on most machines (and could even be ripped back into an editable form using third party software)
Alternatively, save it using 'expert settings' listed above and you will probably get good enough results for a longer film without having to burn it as a playable (but uneditable) dvd.
Bear in mind that unless you are using a pro camera, you may not notice the much difference with the higher settings.
Good luck - seeing your work on the big screen is a blast! -
Hi there,
The title says it all really.
When I connect iPad 2 to iTunes it doesn't connect - it does through wifi however.
When connected to either iTunes or charger it doesn't say it's charging however it will if wifi etc. are off at about 1% or so per hour.
Yes! I have tried restarting both the computer and the ipad, different outlets, charges, computers and leads, etc., etc., etc.
Maybe someone has some ideas?
Thanks,
Jim.iPad Charging
"The fastest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter.
iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter.
When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it's in sleep mode.
Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain." -
Messages in event log about processor speed limited by system firmware
On my new G50-80 I get the following event log messages: "The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report." and this repeats for all 4 processors, on every startup. What does this mean and how to fix? The BIOS is factory original (version BOCN73WW)I have not tweaked speedstep and so on (yet), the machine is on AC power.and I don't know what's DOS, and is it much worse than DDOS. Thanks,-- dd
hi dd,
Is this item your laptop?
If yes, when the machine is plugged-in and running on High Performance power plan, can you try to open a few graphics intensive applications and observe the CPU frequency if it reaches 2.4Ghz or goes into to 3Ghz (turbo boost).
If you don't have graphics intensive apps, try to:
1. Download and install Heavyload and run a stress test on the CPU.
2. Run Coretemp and observe the frequency and the temperature on the cores #0,1,2,3
It'll also help if you can post a screenshot of the results. As for the disk percentage being high, it's likely that there's an app running in the background that's constantly writing to the drive (i.e. Antivirus software running a scan in the background ro a torrent app downloading in the background). -
I didn't find any log in the event viewer about creating new VM.
Dears ,
I'd like to find a log in the event logs about creating new Virtual machine , please check with us.Hi Ramy,
Sorry for the mistake , I'm using 2012R2 and I have the event ID 13002 .
Now I realize you are using 2012 not R2 , so I found a 2012 host to verify that ... you are right .

12GB per hour of HD footage instead of 29GB?
Hi,
I recently switched over to HD camera (Sony HDR-HC1E). This is a DV tape cam.
Im editing in imovie 6.0.4.
I always back up my files by exporting via imovie "full quality" when i used to do this with SD content i would get a DV file as result, now on HD i get a .mov file.
I used to get a 12GB file for a 60min movie. Now with HD i am getting 29GB per hour.
I hear other people talking about 12GB per hour for HD content.
Can anyone please tell me how this is possible?
I am going through external hard drives at lightning speed!
Thanks
DaveHi Dave
There's actually a big difference between a DV stream (whether recorded to tape or file) and a .mov file.
DV or HDV footage is recorded at 25Mbps - megabits per second. This translates to 90000Mb per hour, divide by 8 to convert bits to bytes, and you get 11.2GB/hour. That's constant, whether on the tape or saved as a DV file. Note that DV is pretty compressed.
Now, when iMovie (or any other video conversion program) saves a .mov file, it's no longer a DV stream. It can be any of the codecs (video formats) that your program supports, and there are a wide range of codecs for both SD and HD. These different codecs will use different file sizes depending on their level of compression. (Just like mp3, a compressed audio codec, vs AIFF, an uncompressed codec.)
You can choose to optimize video on import or choose a smaller format on export (large, rather than full size) which will reduce the frame size of your footage, which may be a good solution for you, depending on what you ultimately plan to do with the material. (Edit: actually, not with iMovie 6 - thanks, Karsten Newer versions of iMovie will help you there. )

Home Hub 3 - no event log for a month
I tried and failed to access the Hub Manager home page yesterday.
I tried several PCs / operating systems / browsers without success.
Eventually, I rebooted the router and managed to access the page.
Having logged in I found that no entries had been added to the event log since the early hours of November 18th (just over a month ago) although the broadband has been working fine.
Has anybody else had similar experiences? As a generally paranoid individual I am not too happy that there are missing event log items!!
Thanks
BrianHi oldbak,
Is this issue still apparent? Have you tried resetting the hub?

Corrupt SRUDB.dat in WIndows 8.1 - Event ID 476
Hi all,
I have an issue slight issue with a Windows 8.1 machine (non domain joined). The user was complaining that the system/applications would become unresponsive. I ran a "Chkdsk /f /r" and it came back with a few bad clusters of which some where located
in the "\Windows\System32\sru\SRUDB.dat" file.
In the Application Event Log I see an event ID 476 raised which contain the following:
svchost (1300) SRUJet: The database page read from the file "C:\WINDOWS\system32\SRU\SRUDB.dat" at offset 2195456 (0x0000000000218000) (database page 535 (0x217)) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes failed verification because it contains no page data.
The read operation will fail with error -1019 (0xfffffc05). If this condition persists then please restore the database from a previous backup. This problem is likely due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance
diagnosing the problem.
I'm running an "sfc /scannow", but it looks as though the actual SRUDB.dat database has become corrupt. What does this DAT file contain and is there a way to recreate?
SFC retunred:
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
supported in offline servicing scenarios.
I can post the CBS.log file if required, but toward the end there are some interesting entries:

ChrisHi Swinter,
“WD diagnostic showed there were unrecoverable errors” “the system seems to be stable”
Since there are unrecoverable errors and it has much possibility to relate to the drive. The error will occur again if the hardware issue is not be resolved. If the issue is under tolerant , I recommend you to back up your important data to a separate media.
This is vital to avoid of losing important data due to the unexpected drive corruption. Making a full system imagine is a better choice, though the error may be included.
If you decide to replace the hard drive ,this video may be helpful.

How much data does the apple maps app use per hour ?
hello,
i would like to know, if somebody could give me a rough number of how much the Apple Maps app uses per hour for navigation ?Apple's Maps app uses vector graphics, so it doesn't have to download data everytime your view changes, & also has an offline mode...you can download quite a large area over WiFi & then use this cache to navigate.
So, I really wouldn't worry too much about its data usage. Most tests I've read indicate it uses about 80% less data than Google Maps. -
VSS snapshot of 1.1TB is ending after few hours with timeout. No errors in event log
Hello,
does someone have experienced issue where starting making snapshot (forum GUI or command line) is taking a lot of time and then it just ends with timeout?
I have scenario on virtualised Windows Web Server 2008 R2 where backup is being made by Idera Backup Software but since it relies on VSS Snapshots then we can just skip this point because making snapshots from directly Windows command line or drive preferences/GUI
is ending with timeout for this single drive after few hours. Affected system has 3 drives: C - 95GB, D-1.06TB and E-120GB. C and E can be backuped correctly and only drive D has problems. System is updated with latest drivers vssadmin for writers returns
list without any errors and snapshot for drive D which ends with timeout is not generating any error in event log. I wanted to configure VSS trace like it is being instructed on this site:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/tsminfo/v6/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.itsm.tshoot.doc%2Ft_pdg_traceprfrm.html
but I don't see any trace.txt file on given location. If I remove drive D from backup process it ends without errors. System was restarted many times. Only thing which is visible in windows Event log (application part) is that "The VSS service is shutting
down due to idle timeout." about 4 hours after snapshot making proces is starting.
I've contacted Idera backup about this but they can't help too much if Windows snapshot process is failing. They suggested that something can be wrong with this drive but since this is virtualised machine and all of my VM are being stored on RAID10 disk
array connected to my server using fiber connections then I don't think that this is hardware issue (especially when other two drives are located on the same LUN on disk array).
Any suggestions?
RegardsHi,
Do you create VMs on Hyper-V or VMWare? Based on research, possible causes could be:
1. Files changes in the volume is very huge. So the shadow size may be big and the current shadow storage my not able to hold it. And that’s cause the shadow copy creation failure.
2. The I/O in D drive is heavy and make the shadow copy I/O failed.
3. Server is too busy to handle the request.
4. The disk is heavily defragment.
Please refer to the articles to troubleshoot the issue:
Time-out errors occur in Volume Shadow Copy service writers, and shadow copies are lost during backup and during times when there are high levels of input/output
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826936/en-us
VSS timeouts during backup? What could contribute to that?

Questions about BT Home Hub 4A event log - WIFI c...
Hope someone can help please ?
I had BT inifinity installed 2 weeks ago with the HH 4 (type A) and everything has worked - connection found, no problem.
This week, my ipod touch was unable to join the network but the iphone 5, another ipod and a tablet could connect without a problem. The ipod touch managed to connect to another WIFI used at the property and my work wifi without a problem.
I thought it maybe the ipod touch as it was quite old but that doesn't make sense since it connects fine to other networks. I restored network settings and other options suggested by Apple but to no avail.
I have turned my attention to the Hub. My laptop (older than the ipod touch) gets the connection no problem along with the other devices. I went into the hub management page but I am not smart enough to decifer the event log so would like some help so I can fix this because I thought BT infinity was the better more reliable option?
The ipod touch Wifi IP address is 00:25:00:b7:35:f6.
On the event log, it shows STA before the address - but it shows STA before all the device IP addresses. Should I change this to DCHP ? or is this (Static ? alright)
The Lease on all the devices on the event log is set to 1440 min. (1 day) is that alright too, what does it mean ?
Do I have to keep renewing the lease ? How do I do that ? I read it can be set to 21 days ?
Going back to the IP address on the ipod it shows the Hostname as 00:25:00:B7:35:f6-2 this is different to the IP address with the -2. Could that be a cause of the unable to join network or is it because I attempted to recreate the network on the ipod so its the second version of that host name ?
Is there any setting I can change to fix this because I am concerned the same this will happen to the other devices and then the laptop....
What do I need to do to be able to get my ipod touch to connect to the BT network setting ?
I think its the hub 4A causing the 'block' on the ipod touch not the device and I think its maybe a matter of changing a setting - but then why was it all fine before when Infinity was first installed ?
Lastly my laptop (7 Years old) seems to be attached to the 5GHZ Wireless channel - is that alright ? The other more recent devices are on the 2.4ghz channel (except the ipod touch which isn't on any !!)
Is it alright to turn the hub on / off ? -I am resisting that because I don't want to make the situation worse.
Sorry but what does client disassociated mean and all the BLOCKS - do they relate to firewall ?
Please can you review the event log and my questions ?
Many thanks

If you do this you will need to re-connect all your devices that can see both frequencies to both SSids so that they will swap between the frequencies seamlessly when ever they need to
See link how to change SSid.
http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/44504/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xMzc1OTY2ODIxL...
Once you have changed the SSid I would delete the network connection on the Ipod touch and start again. -
Date format in log/error messages with Server Event Log
Hi :)
I have some question.
Current Date is printed at tterrors/ttmesg log files to add with "-showdate" option at $TIMESTEN_HOME/info/ttendaemon.options file.
But date when the TimesTen Server Event Log output is not displayed.
How to solve these case?

"Event Viewer cannot open the event Log or Custom view. Verify that the Event log service is running or query is too long. The instance name passed was not recognized as valid by a WMI data provider(4201)"
This error keeps cropping up now and again on most of our domain controllers (OS-2008 AND 2008R2)...Usually a restart fixes the issue however the issue repeats and security logs don't generate.
Any advice on how to fix this issue permanently would be greatly appreciated. Please see this: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/95987ca3-a1b2-4da6-95b7-d825d06cdac7/error-code-4201-the-instance-name-passed-was-not-recognized-as-valid-by-a-wmi-data-provider?forum=w7itprosecurity
You can also try rebuilding the WMI repository: http://blogs.technet.com/b/askperf/archive/2009/04/13/wmi-rebuilding-the-wmi-repository.aspx

Redo Log Files - more than 12 per hour
Hello @all,
I have a problem with my redo log files. I get more than 12 switches per Hour. I have 3 Files with 5oM size. I increased the sitz to 15o M, but
I still have 12 switches per hour.
Do anyone know, what I did wrong?
Database:
Oracle 9i
Thanks

Hello @all,
yes I know, that 3 switches per hour are perfekt, but I had increased the Size from 5o M to 15oM already and the amount from switches, are not reduced.
So there must be something else, that causes the log switches.Martin,
As I said somewhere above too, 150meg is a tiny size if you are managing a production db. I have already mentioned that make your log file size to at least 500meg and than check. As for the high redo activity, only you can confirm that whether this has been started from now only or was happening before too? In anycase, for an active oltp, 500 to 1gb of redo log file size should be okay.
For the extra redo generation, you have been given link for mining log files using logminer. Try using it to see what is causing extra redo.
