SRW2024 Ports lose comms after power cycle

Hi
We have a medium size network consisting of about 25x SRW2024 switches and 8x SGE2000 doing the routing in layer 3 mode. We have about 100 vlans in total and everything is setup and all works fine until we have a power issue. Sometimes when the power is turned off to certain layer 2 switches for about 10 min or more and then back on sometimes the devices connected to them will not communicate. I can see them connected if I go into the webpage of the srw2024 but no communication until I power cycle the device connected. Is this a problem with the device conected or with the srw2024?
This doesn't happen all the time but cannot find any settings that might cause this. The ports on the switch are set to 100m speed and mdix.
Any help would be appreciated.
Darren

I reinstalled my firmware but couldn't find a solution to this. After installing the latest firmware 1.1.2 I no longer experience the issue with the reset settings.

  • Lose settings after power cycle.

I noticed the iPhone (firmware 1.1.1) will occassionally lose internet WAP settings for my carrier after power cycling (turning off then back on). The top left menu displays the correct wireless carrier and has the "E" for EDGE coverage but fails to access the network via EDGE for email/internet browsing due to the WAP settings are erased. I have to then enter the WAP settings again. Has anyone else experienced this?

  • WRT310N version 1: Port 4 light is on but nothing is connected after power cycle

I have the WRT310N version 1 with the latest firmware date Dec 2009.  Everything is working great except when I turn off the router and power back up.  I am only using port 1 but after a power cycle both port 1 and port 4 lights are on and I can't connect to the Internet.  If I keep unplugging the router (2 to 5 times) with 30 secs between I can eventually get just the port 1 light and then everything is good to go until the next power cycle.  I don't need or want to keep my router on 24/7 so any advice is greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

    Hello.
Try to hard reset the router by pushing the button for 30 secs then power cycle it again.
What if you plug the computer to the other ports? Do you experience the same problem? Have you tried a different cable to connect the computer?
Not sure if reflashing the firmware could help on this one but you could also give that a try. click here
Make sure you know the hardware version of your router before reflashing the firmware. It is found underneath the router itself.

  • FATAL Error After Power Cycle- GVRP related?

    Hello all,
    Happy New Year!
I have a network of four 300 Series small business switches. All are running software version 1.3.5.58 (latest version).
Three of them are connected by 2 Port LAG groups to the central switch which in turn connects to the internet facing router. There is no loops in the architecture and spanning tree is running. There are a total of 4 VLANs and GVRP is enabled with the four VLANs statically created on the main switch.
Normally everything runs very happily and is perfectly stable.
However, a power failure this morning resulted in a power cycle on two of the switches. They did not recover gracefully and kept restarting.
I removed the ports from the LAG groups in the main switch (not impacted by the power cycle) and then rebuilt them to recover connectivity and restore normal operation.
Both of the switches which restarted had multiple  entries in their log files like this:-
    %GVRP-F-NOSTATREG: GVRPP_checkStaticToDynamic_update: Port isn't Statically registered on vlan 100  ***** FATAL ERROR *****  Reporting Task: BRMN. Software  Version: 1.3.5.58 (date  10-Oct-2013 time  17:15:41) 0x16adbc 0x166f28 0x6df2b0 0x48fad8 0x4903e8 0x490608 0x51a234 0x79dfd8 0x7b9f8c 0x7c1500 0x445d 88 0x41e04c 0x7d4c80 0x61cb68 0x1223f0  ***** END OF FATAL ERROR *****
Has any one seen this before? Have I made some "rookie" mistake with by GVRP configuration?
    Kind Regards,
    Andy.

Hi Andrew, the GVRP database is kind of a strange creature (the protocol itself is just strange). By removing a VLAN or interface from the GVRP database, when the join message is sent it will send an update to the downstream switch. I suspect that by removing the LAG there was an unintended database change (in fact the database on the receiving switch didn't have the desired database as you modified the trunk which strips all VLAN). So what happens is the downstream switch "defaulted" to 1 vlan then the re-establishment of the LAG sent more VLAN and the GVRP database didn't match up.
Does this kind of make sense?
If you're in for a simple lab you can create a trunk between switches with multiple vlans tagged (do like 5 vlans, not just 2). Then remove one of those vlans off the master switch. Observe the behavior.

  • Help! Fast Internet only for short while after power cycling of AEBS

The Charter Communication tech came out to check why we weren't getting the advertised 20meg speed. Well, the speed out of the modem is ~19meg and if I plug in the laptop directly to the brand new Airport Extreme router (firmware 7.4.1), we do get the fastest speed.
I ditched the setup I had with dual band separate networks, since we don't actually transfer files between computers much. I just want fast Internet for downloads/uploads.
I have the network setup on auto bands and auto channels (and I have tried setting the channels manually). We don't have many neighbors so there isn't a lot of interference that I can tell.
If I unplug the router and plug it back in--then the wireless network speed is fast ~19 megs. However, after less than 30 min. the network bogs down and becomes 5-7megs. Then if I power cycle, it goes right back up to 19megs.
    Why????

  • Auto Answer will NOT stay on after power cycle or reset - C20 TC7.3.0 UCM 10.5SU1 registration

As the title suggests, I've got 2 C20 codecs running the latest 7.3.0 code I can download registered to UCM 10.5.1 SU1.  Power cycling or resetting them causes the auto-answer to default to off.  There is still no way to change auto-answer from within UCM, and TMS cannot manage the device anymore.
I've found a couple of instances of this with older TC and UCM code, but it seems this issue continues today.
    Any ideas?

Saw that and it ended up being the right direction, but since I was on a different version I wasn't able to use that device pack.
So, I found out the following from TAC:
Auto-Answer became a configurable field presented to UCM in TC7.2.x, but the appropriate management fields on the web pages didn't become available until later in the device pack. I read through a couple of device pack readme's and I didn't see anything related, but sure enough installing 10.5.1.11005-2 presented the fields and that works fine now.

  • Must I reboot Windows after power-cycling the PXI?

The fans in the NI PXI-1042 are *noisy*!!! This thing is in a classroom and gets shut off everytime I turn around. Two questions: 1) is there any way to get around the reboot required to find the PXI cards on the PC every time it is power-cycled. 2) Where can I find quieter replacement fans for this thing?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Chris,
I don't know what type of connection you have (MXI-3 or MXI-4)... I have had some success with the following method:
With everything up and running, go to Control Panel >> System >> Device Manager (Hardware Tab). From there, expand the "tree" for System Devices. There you will see 'PCI Standard PCI-to-PCI Bridge'. Right-click on that and choose 'Disable'. The PXI chassis can now be turned off. When you are ready to use the PXI boards again, simply turn the PXI chassis back on, and then choose 'Enable' from device manager and the chassis and computer will link up once again. So, it does require some action up front, but it will save you from rebooting
I can't guarantee this will work every time and I'm not sure if it works for MXI-3 (I have MXI-4) but it may be worth a try.

  • LAP1142 looses config after power cycle

We have some 1242 LAPs in a two 5508 controller setup working fine. All LAP are configured to obtain address from DHCP. After first join we usually change some configs like HOSTNAME, AP GROUP, PRIMARY AND SECONDARY WLC. After a software restart or a complete power off/power on the LAPs joins the primary controller and all configuration still there. We now add a 1142 LAP and is does not retain the configuration after a power off/power on cycle, but after a software restart there is no problem. The only way to retain the config is setting the AP with a static IP address.
We use WLC 7.0.116 and we see no errors in the LAP console.
    Best Regards,

I would just open a tac case as it might be an issue with the APs itself.

  • [SOLVED] No Sound through HDMI port in Intel after power save

    Hi,
I build an HTPC with Arch inside. I output the sound into the HDTV through the HDMI port of the motherboard, following the instruction of the archwiki. Both, the audio and the video are from the motherboard (i.e, I don't have external video or audio cards). Everything works very neat, except for one issue. When I have a couple of minutes without moving the mouse, the video goes black, like a screensaver and I also lost the audio. I guess it is a default configuration in a power saving domain, although I don't remember having installed any. Maybe it is a default of the video driver. I'm using the default xf86-video-intel driver, and I have installed the lib32-intel-dri package.
If a move mouse, the video returns normally. The problem is the audio. I guess that it's because I have the audio through the HDMI port. If I move the mouse immediately after the video and audio are gone, both return without problem. But if I leave the system into this power saving mode for a couple of minutes, and then move the mouse, the video goes back, but the system is mute. I try
    $ speaker-test -c 2
    , and also
    $ aplay -D plughw:0,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
and there are no errors. It seems like the sound is being played, but no longer through the HDMI port.
Is there anyway to check where that powersave comes from? Is there any way to disable it, or at least, a way to make sure that the audio is output through the HDMI port after the powersave mode?
If someone is willing to help, and need the output of command or the content of any configuration file, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance,

Thanks jv2112. I read that article before but skipped that section. I disabled all of those options, and at least, the sound doesn't disappear after the video goes black. I have tried several times, for several hours, and the sound is still there. The video still goes black, but I have my sound. Therefore, I mark this issues as solved.
    Thanks,

The i915 kernel module allows for configuration via /etc/modprobe.d/i915.conf wherein users can define powersavings options. A listing of options is available via the following command:

  • RV042 v3 (v4.2.2.08) loses config after power loss

I have two RV042 units - both v3 hardware and both with firmware 4.2.2.08.
Both units lose thier configuration and return to factory default after a power loss.
I've tried re-flashing the firmware in both units - no change.
I have the configuration backed up for both units, so it only takes me a few moments to restore them after a power loss, but shouldn't the units hold their configuration in NVRAM or some such?
Any ideas as to what I'm missing?
    Thanks for any replies...

Well the date set back to 1969 is a classic sign of a dead battery.
Check out things in Texas Mac Man's Battery, PRAM, PMU tutorial on the subject. His tutorial is a little dated (don't believe it even mentions G5's, or Intel Macs) but the info in it, except SMU and SMC not being included, still applies. Luck ! DALE

  • APC "ups" loses comm after Mac sleeps.

I have installed a brand new UPS made by APC. Back-UPS RS 1500G. It was installed yesterday, said it had a 100% charge according to the icon in the menu bar. Today, just before work of course, it went through it's first power outage. I was out of power for 1.5 to 2 hours. During which time the menu bar never changed from 100% and I never got the warning "Your computer is now on UPS. Back up any work and shut down soon." or whatever it says exactly. So I unplugged the USB, waited a minute and plugged it back in. Now it's telling me to save my work and shut down soon, blah blah blah. And it's at 95% charge. it went all the way down to 70% charge while I was on it and what not. Then the power came back on. So i saw it move up about 84% charge. I left for work, thus the Mac went to sleep at my schedule time of 15 minutes after idle.
After 11 hours, come back from work. Wake up the Mac and it's still at 84% charge. Unplug the USB, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. Bam, it's now at 100%.
Any one else having the same problem? If so, I'll report it to Apple.

APC's software was not installed.  That said, I uninstalled apcagent and rebooted.  Results were the same: Energy Saver doesn't detect the UPS.

  • AppleTV loses video output after sitting and has to be power cycled

I have a strange problem. When I switch back to the AppleTV after having been watching regular TV or any other activity on my entertainment system, I often come back to no video from the AppleTV or it is on the resolution selection screen. If it is on the resolution selection, and I select 1080i, the sound of the startup animation happens, but no video. Either way, I have to unplug the AppleTV and let it start again to get video back. The same is when it starts up and it has no video at all.
Last night it just sat there for a long time with the Apple logo in the middle of the screen and did nothing else... I had to pull the plug to get it to restart.
Do I have a bad unit? I am using Harmony Remote, and I am wondering if it might be sending something that is confusing the AppleTV.
How safe is it to unplug it a few times a day? I can't imagine that it would be a good thing.
Windows XP   Sony DGB800 Audio Receiver - Mitsubishi 65" DLP TV

No Samsung. I have a Mitsubishi 65" DLP rear projection. I would lean toward it not being the problem because sometimes I get video (just the apple logo) and nothing else and sometimes no video at all. When I get the apple logo, it won't respond to any remote stuff, even though the light is white/blue, rather than orange, indicating startup. It will sit on the apple logo indefinitely.
I have tried switching inputs on the TV when I have no video, and it still didn't help. Rebooting the AppleTV fixes the problem. I've unplugged the hdmi cable and plugged it back in and still no help.
It's just odd. It feels broken/unhappy. It's only a week old and this is the only problem so far. I love it but this one issue is really aggravating me. I'm worried about power cycling so much (at all).
I appreciate any help. Should I take it back to the Apple store and get a new one?
