SRW2024 + SRW2048 Uplink problem

Hi all.
I have two switches SRW2024 and SRW2048
I had connected on SRW2048 (Switch 1) only PC and on SRW 2024 (Switch2)  iscsi SAN, server ESX and a couple of NAS.
I use to uplink port 12 of 2024 and 48 of 2048.
Now in this situation when i connect from my PC (Switch 1) to SERVER ESX and try to upload a datastore the speed is very slow.
If i change the position of my ethernet cable PC from Switch 1 to Switch 2 che connection is perfect, because not pass from the uplink and go direct on the switch.
I think the problem is on the uplink cable, i try to change the cable and the port, use optical miniGb... but the result not change.
For now i don' t have any VLAN, use normal setting default on the switch without trunk or other settings.
Another thing... if i use 2 normal switch  without managment... work perfect, the problem is the setting of uplink managment on SRW2024\2048.
Any Idea ?
Thanks to all for any help.

Hello,
What you are describing is quite odd, because when you aren't crossing VLANs everything should really happen at wire speed, there may be a bit of a slowdown because of the extra link, but it should be almost unnoticeable.
A few things I would try are a different cable for the uplink, make sure it is Cat5E, since Cat5 can give you some issues with a gigabit connection.  I would also try setting the duplex and port speed manually to 1000/full just to eliminate auto-negotiation as a problem.
I would also try using a different set of ports to connect the two switches if the issue persists.
Just to confirm, right now all of your devices are in the same subnet and VLAN correct?
How much of a speed difference are we talking about here?  Can you give some transfer speed numbers for PC to datastore on same switch and when they are on different switches?
Hope some of that helps,

  • Uplink problems from UCS 6128 FI

    Hi,
We have one demo UCS system. It was working pretty smoth, we take it to few presentations etc etc.
Few days we cleaned system, and decided to reconfigure and deploy.
    Overview :
Cisco UCS blade chasis, 2 b200m2 servers with VIC adapters, 2x6128 FI.
Uplinks are only 1 Gb and GLC-T modules are used for uplinks.
Problem now is that as soon as i configure port as uplink and configure it for 1 Gbps, port changes to admin down, and no connections to upper switches are available.
We decided to upgrade to latest software and now is 2.0(4a). Conection from VIC, through IOM and to server ports is ok, but uplinks are still not working.
Upper switch  c2950 has ports that connects to ucs as trunk, everything as usual.
Just to clarfy, this exact setup was active before and working.
    Errors from UCS are :

Any idea? Everything is connected as before, it used to work flawless.

well, server ports are up. I know this is uplink ports problem, but really cannot see where the problem is :). Ports on northbound switch that ucs connects to are trunk ports, vlans are defined on that switch.
I also suspect sfp's (cisco glc-t) but it seems pretty strange that 2 sfp modules are malfunctioning. They used to work pretty neat.
Just to mention we have same UCS in production and it is working, config is same, ports are same, nxos outputs for ethernet uplinks are same..
Just to check somenthing i created two hba's (we do have FC expansion card, but ucs is not connected to FC switches), and vif paths for FC are up...seems that this is releated to ethernet problem solely.

  • SF 300-24P uplink problem

    Dear Team,
We bought a cisco POE Switch (Cisco SF 300-24P) from a reseller before two months, and we are facing a problem when we connect just an uplink on Telephone network and it is a standalone network and there is no Vlans connected to this network, the other two switches on this network are LINKSYS SRW224P (Old Product), and the problem is when we dial from POE phones like Linksys SPA922; the tone gone and we can’t hear the one who we are calling and he don’t hear us, but when we disconnect this uplink cable from the Switch above every things come back normal.
    Please advise.
    Many thanks

it would be good to see a topology of your network to help troubleshooting.
is the uplink between your switches? if so, you could have a loop in your network,
do all the activity lights light up on your switches whan you plug in the uplink?
Verify all the cables between the switches and make sure you don't have a loop,
virtual server hosts with multiple nics, unmanaged switches and hubs can also cause this.
You can also look in the logs to see if there are spanning tree errors, or
look at spanning tree status to see if there are ports that have a 'blocked' state, that would indicate spanning tree has shut down a port,
if the uplink is to the telephone network... is this an analog line?
you say standalone network, so I assume it's not an ethernet cable...

  • BEFW11S4 uplink problem

I have a BEFW11S4 wireless router that I am trying to network with a D-LinkDGS-1005D (Gb switch).  I have tried the uplink port from the Linksys and a regular port from the Linksys.  I have tried different ports on the D-Link but nothing has worked.  Any ideas on my problem?

Hi… I think you need to check the Ethernet cable that you are using. Get a Cross-Over Ethernet Cable. Reduce the MTU on the router and try again. Connect a PC to the switch and assign static IP address on it in the range of the router and try to ping to the router. Reduce the Card speed (link speed and duplex) of the Ethernet adapter on the PC, if needed.

  • Uplink Problem Catalyst 2950

We hv a 2950 catalyst switch, it was running fine in the network some day ago. Now it does'nt work with uplink, whenever we connect to it another switch(D-Link) it light remains orange(uplink port, other are running fine(Green Light)) & no connectivity. please resolve it.

    Hello,
can you try and change your physical setup ? From what I understand from your post, your setup looks like this:
Cisco Switch --> D-Link Switch --> PacketWave Modem
Can you try and change this to:
D-Link Switch --> Cisco Switch --> PacketWave Modem
that is, connect the Cisco switch to the PacketWave modem, and the D-Link switch to the Cisco switch ?

  • Simple Port Forwarding - SRW2016, SRW2024, SRW2048

Does anyone have a guide for simple port forwarding on the SRW2016-48 series?
    Thanks

What "ports" do you want to forward? What do you mean with "port forwarding"? Please explain what you want to do!

  • SRW2048 serial console is read-only

I have connected my SRW2048 to a serial port and I can see  the boot process of the router but I cannot write anything, I see the  login prompt but cannot login.
    - I use the original cable which was shipped with the switch
    - I have uses 3 differenet PCs
    - I can use telnet and ssh, but I need the serial also.

It sounds like your getting to the switch just fine.  The issue seems to be you don't have the password to get into it.
If that is the case, you can reset the password and login to the switch using the following steps.
The password will be admin and the username is admin.
    Q. How do I recover the password  of my switch?
A.If you do not know or have  forgotten your password to get into the switch's configuration  interface, you may try running the Password Recovery.  This is a solution which allows the user login to the switch using its  default username ("admin").
Performing Password Recovery  (Accton Switches - SRW224P, SRW2024P)
    Step 1:
Connect  to the console port using terminal emulation parameters (typically 38400,  8, 0, 1, None).
    Step  2:
Reboot switch by unplugging the power.
    Step  3:
Hold down Ctrl U while rebooting  to display Menu.
    Step 4:
    Select [D]  Delete file.
    Step 5:
Type  "startup-config" (be sure that this is the ONLY file that you delete -  if you delete other files, you will have to reload the firmware)
    Step  6:
Now, you have erased the configuration file and  you should be able to reboot and login with the default username and  password.
    Performing Password Recovery  (Marvell Switches - SRW2016, SRW2024, SRW2048, SRW224G4, SRW248G4)
    Step 1:
Connect  to the console port using terminal emulation parameters (typically 38400,  8, 0, 1, None).
    Step  2:
Reboot the switch by unplugging the power.
    Step  3:
After viewing PASS on the  screen, Press ESC on your keyboard to display the BOOTmenu.
    Step  4:
    Select [3] Password Recovery Procedure.
    Step  5:
You can now login to the switches with the  default username and password.
Note: Be sure to  change the password to something you can easily remember. After  rebooting, the default password will not be accessible unless you add it  back to the list of passwords. The passwords will be restored to the  passwords configured on the switch.

  • VLAN problem with SRW2048

I'm having problem with a setup with multiple SRW2048 connected together.  However, I can see the problem when simplifying my setup and using only two SRW2048 together.
The first SRW2048 receives one connection from many different servers and sends these connections to many other SRW2048.   I have configured one VLAN (untagged) per server for this switch.  The goal is instead of having 4 switches to do this job, I am using only one.
The second SRW2048 receives the server connections from the other switch.  It then distributes these connections to various ports.  I use a different VLANs on this switch to group these connections and the server uplink together).
Everything works fine until a plug the two switches together (i.e. I can verify the VLAN connections are working by connecting directly to each switch).  However, when both switches are connected, I get a flooding of all interfaces (like there is a bypass of the VLANs or a loop in the connections).  This happens as soon as I have two servers connected.  If I connect only one, there is no problem.
If I connect a second server through a dumb switch instead of the first SRW2048, everything works fine, so I don't think that there is a loop.  The problem seems to be with the VLANs (how they "cascade" together). Anybody got an idea of what the problem is?
For those who need a better visual representation:
    Server1->Port 1-8 Switch1 (VLAN1 on these ports)->Port 1 (and others) Switch2 (VLAN10 on these ports)
    Server2->Port 9-16 Switch1 (VLAN2 on these ports)->Port 2 (and others) Switch2 (VLAN11 on these ports)
    Etc for other servers...
All VLANs are using the default settings from the Web Interfaces on the switches (Access mode, Untagged, other ports Excluded, etc.)

    1. The SRW switches are standalone devices. Unlike more expensive switches like those from the Cisco Small Business Pro series they don't automatically recognize each other and configure themselves to play nicely together.
    2. Generally, if you create a new VLAN on one SRW you have to create the same VLAN on all other switches and also add these to the trunks connecting the switches. Same applies to the ASA if you connect the SRWs to ASA. As long as a switch is not configured for a particular VLAN it won't accept traffic for it.
    3. The only thing that you may try is GVRP. I never tried this but I think it may do what you want: add a VLAN on a single switch and then propagate this to the trunks and other switches. I can't tell how well this works and whether the ASA will accept that, too.

  • SRW2048 - Webinterface doesn't work and many more problems

I bought a SRW2048 last week and I've updated the firmware to v1.2.2
I have many problems with this switch:
    a) Firefox doesn't work with the webinterface
    b) IE7 doesn't work with the webinterface
    c) IE8 doesn't work with the webinterface
    d) ONLY IE6 works.
    e) if it works with IE6 (sometimes it doesn't) then it's sooooo slow
    f) the informations for Link Aggregation are wrong
    g) SNTP doesn't work
    h) setting the time manually and the time zone doesn't work with summer time in germany. i never get the correct time.
Has any of the developers ever used the web interface?
Message Edited by Heathen on 08-14-2008 07:29 AM

I have SRW2016, 1.2.2 firmware. Web interface works with IE7 but not FF3 (not tested with IE6 or FF2). When using IE7, however, it keeps saying
This website wants to run the following add-on: 'MSXML 5.0' from 'Microsoft Corporation'.
Other than that it works fine. I suggest you try a few different computers with various browser versions because it could be a browser settings/profile thing.
As for speed, I don't know how you define slow; it won't be as fast as a web server, but response time is acceptable.

  • Setup 3 subnets across fiber to new IDF (SRW2048) from MDF (existing SRW2024, SRW2024, SRW 2048)

Hello. First of all, please forgive my lack of knowledge as I am trying to seek the assistance of those who can help a fellow 'Go to IT Guy' at work.
I have three subnets that im trying to push to our new idf closet which we had built to acommodate these subnets (1=workstation 10.51.x.x, 2=wireless 10.50.x.x (WS2000, 6x AP300 motorola/symbol, and 3=production servers 10.60.x.x used for testing units (putting units into test).
We ran a 400ft 12 strand fiber armored with 4 term'd (i think its 3). but so far i have one (tx/rx)  being used for our motorola/symbol ws2000 & ap300 accessports and our sec dvr camera system.
instead of purchasing an extra two switches for the idf closet and also purchasing an additional 4 mgbsx1 (2 per subnet? (10.51.x.x ) (10.60.x.x)), could it be possible to setup a vlan configuration for this? If so, how would i go about in doing this?
I kinda get the idea of setting the or a port to a specific vlan but just not sure how will this work across a single pair of fiber (rx/tx) from the mdf closet to a single unit switch (srw2048) in the idf closet and split the 3subnets (as an example: ports 1-8= vlan 1 (10.51.x.x) , ports 8-16 = vlan2  (10.50.x.x) , ports 17-47 = vlan 3 (10.60..x.x)    )
    mdf switches:
    10.51.x.x / SRW2024
    10.50.x.x / SRW2048
    10.60.x.x / SRW2024
    idf switch(es):
    SRW2048
Connection type bewteen MDF and IDF: 400ft 12strand fiber
Any help is greatly appreciated and I thank you in advance.
    sincerely,
    jay

To carry multiple VLANs across a single LAN you use 802.1q tagged ethernet frames. On the SRW you would configure the connecting ports into trunk mode. Then you add all necessary VLANs which are supposed to cross through that link to the port. (If you only have a few VLANs and it varies where you need which VLAN exactly you can simply add all your existing VLANs to the trunk mode port).
On a trunk port all VLANs are tagged except the default management ("native") VLAN which remains untagged. With this setup both ends know to which VLAN any particular ethernet frames belongs to: all untagged frames (i.e. standard ethernet frames) belong to the default VLAN and all other frames are 802.1q tagged with the VLAN id. This way, both ends can run all VLANs and still keep traffic separated.
Of course, please keep in mind that the SRWs are only level 2 switches. Routing between different VLANs and between VLANs and other networks (i.e. the internet) must be handled on other devices. You cannot connect multiple VLANs to a non 802.1q VLAN router. If you need routing, you either need a 802.1q capable router or L3 switch or you need multiple routers and run separate cables for each VLAN to different routers.

  • Problems runnig Uplink on Arch64

I currenyly having some problems running one of my favorite games, Uplink, on Arch64.
I've tried both installing Uplink via the AUR package and unpacking the uplink.zip manually from the CD and applying the patch from the AUR package, bot resulting in the same error.

Also when i try to the official 1.54 patch, i get an error saying that the shared library libgtk-1.2.so.0 is missing. I figure it's because it needs a 32bit version of the library, I i can find no package, either in pacman or AUR containing gtk1 libraries.
I've tried just linking from /usr/lib32 to the 64bit library, but then I get an error saying:

Anyone on Arch64 who has succesfully installed and runned Uplink? Or is this a general problem?

Thanks, this at least solved the problem with running the updater
But I still get a segmentation fault whenever i try running the game. I might just end up trying to install the Windows version through WINE.
Has anyone actually got the native linux client running on arch64?

  • SRW2048 Gigabit connection problems

    Hi,
I have a SRW2048 connected back to a Cisco 6509 core switch.  For some reason, I cannot establish a gigabit connection with our computers.  Both Lenovo laptops and Dell desktops are failing; they always end up falling back and negotiating at 100/full.  The port used to uplink back to the 6509 seems to connect at gig, and the port status on both the 2048 and the 6509 indicate that there is a gig connection between them.  But any of my computers connected to the 2048 cannot get a gig connection.  Can anyone help??
    -Norm

Both the switch and the computer are set to auto-negotiate.  When I try to set the computer to a force auto-negotiate 1000 Mbps, it still doesn't work.  It keeps trying to connect but never succeeds.  The port light will light up with amber (gig) for a couple seconds and then turn off again, and it keeps cycling that way.

  • SRW2048 Firmware 1.2.2 DHCP Forwarding Problem?

Is there a known issue with firmware 1.2.2 forwarding dhcp request? I had my tech support reporting that some users were unable to get assign DHCP addresses till a release and renew was performed.
    regards,

This is the release notes of
SRW2048 Firmware Revision History Software version 1.2.2 01/01/2007
    Boot version 1.0.0.04 08/09/2005
    Known Issues
    =========
    1. ACL --> MAC Based ACL
Creating a MAC ACL with to permit ethertype 0800 causes all traffic to be forwarded. Configuring a MAC ACL to permit ethertype 86DD causes all traffic to be denied.
Recommended Workaround: To avoid these situations, add a rule to deny any any.
    2. Admin --> Cable Test
When testing cable with advanced test only (without simple test before), the results are incorrect.
    3. QoS --> Advanced Mode
When configuring a policy with police - exceeded action - out of profile dscp, the policy must have an action: trust cos-dscp or set dscp. If you configure a policy with police - exceeded action - out of profile dscp without an action - the device configures the action to trust cos-dscp. If you configure a policy with police - exceeded action - out of profile dscp with an action set cos/queue, the device configures the action to set dscp 0.
    4. Setup --> Time
The prioritization between servers is not maintained when two servers are configured simultaneously.
    5. SNMP --> Group Membership
It is not possible to modify the user name after it has been entered.
Recommended Workaround: Delete the user and reconfigure.
    6. VLAN Management
When a port is a member of Dynamic VLANs and Static VLANs, there may be errors in configuration using the Join VLAN pop up.
Recommended Workaround: Use the Ports to VLAN screen to join ports to VLANs.
    7. Timestamps
    (a) The order of the month and day in the dates presented in syslog messages is the European fromat (dd/mm/yy), and not the US format.
    (b) SNMP traps are sent with a timestamp different from the actual time on the device, since the timestamp depends on the NMS configuration. The sequence is preserved.
    8. HTTP port configuration
It is possible to modify the HTTP port to an already used port (e.g., 443). No error message is generated at this point.
    9. Illegal characters in web inteface
Use of the following characters should be avoided when configuring using the web based interface: \ / : * ? < > |
    10. Menu CLI
    (a) Disable Active Management Access Profile - this software version does not support Management ACL, so this option is irrelevant to the user. It is reserved for future use.
"disable active mgmt access profile" is not working in menu console
    (b) One cannot change the "admin" password in the Web GUI, but through menu CLI it is available.
GUI doesn't work only if there is only one user "Admin"
If you change the username to Admin1 or anything else, it works.
If you have another user name or names in addition to Admin, then it works too.
It could be more likely the computer issue.

  • WS-C3560 - SRW2048 - WS-C3560

    Hi there!
I've got a pretty strange problem..
I get connectivety to one of my networks from a Cisco WS-C3560 (according to CDP) that are connected to my Linksys SRW2048 switch port g47.
Then I apply dot1q vlan tag 170 to all incomming traffic on that port and put that vlan traffic out on a dot1q trunk port (g48) to move that network to another room.
In this room I have an other WS-C3560 connceted that should be configured as a trunk and should accept my vlan 170. I can't however get this to work.
If I replace my last WS-C3560 with an SRW2024 switch everything works. But this is not what I desire.

  • VPE on SRW2024

I need to test PVE using my existing SRW2024 to justify purchasing an SG300 version for a new application.
My main uplink is via "g1".
My current settings have all ports in the default (and only) VLAN.
On the Port Settings screen for "g2",  I set PVE to "g1".
On the Port Settings screen for "g3", I set PVE to "g2".
All other ports have no PVE setting.
    Results:
All other ports can talk to next hop connected to "g1".
Neither "g2" nor "g3" can talk to anybody, including the next hop connected to "g1".
They can't even talk to the switch.
    Firmware version 1.2.2b
    What I want to happen:
PCs on "g2" can not see PCs on "g3" (and the reverse), but they must talk out "g1" to get to the internet.
The doc just does not seem to indicate anything on using this feature.
Does PVE just not work on these boxes?
    Tony

Hi David, I think I see the problem. It looks like your PVE groups are different.
On the Port Settings screen for "g2",  I set PVE to "g1".
On the Port Settings screen for "g3", I set PVE to "g2".
How the PVE works is it maps a source port to a destination port to over write the forwarding table. The uplink port "protects" the source port.
You need to set the PVE for g3 to g1 if g1 is your common uplink port.
