SRW248G4P and media center extender

I have a SRW248G4P 48 port POE switch and a few DMA2100 Media Center Extenders all hardwired.  When everything is connected to the switch the extenders cannot connect or be detected by the Windows 7 Media Center PC.  However, when I switch all of the cabling over to the 4 ports on the router (RV042) everything connects and operates as usual.
Any Ideas as to what the problem my be?
Thanks,
Aaron

Did you assign static IP address to your Media extender? If not that may be the reason why it is not working. This is because, RV042 has DHCP capability that assign IP address to its client. On the other hand SRW248G4P doesn't have DHCP capability and if you connected your DMA2100 devices to the switch it will not get any IP address to be part of the network.

  • Can't get Xbox 360 Media Center Extender to work

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64.  This is a retail copy.  I had previously set up Windows Media Center and successfully set up my Xbox 360 as a Media Center Extender.
After a long hiatus of using Windows Media Center, I went to watch a movie in my media library through my Xbox 360.  It would appear to initially connect and then show the Windows Media Center loading screen and say "Contacting..."  After about 30 seconds, it would display an error asking me to make sure my Windows Media Center PC is turned on (it is).  I ran the Windows Media Center network test in the Xbox 360 and it tested fine.
I attempted to delete the Media Center Extender in WMC and set it up again, but it always fails with an error "An error was encountered while configuring your computer for use with this Extender" at the part where it says "Configuring your Extender".
I looked in the Event Viewer under the Media Center section and found event ID 543:

I also tried turning off the Windows firewall on the Windows Media Center PC, but this had no effect on the outcome.  I also tried deleting the Microsoft Windows Media Center Extender Host certificate and restarting the Network List Service, but these steps to did nothing to fix the issue.
I am using the same computer with the same NIC with the same Ethernet cable with the same SOHO router (Linksys WRT54GL) with the same Xbox 360.  Any advice would be welcome at this point.

  • Windows 7 as a media center extender?

I have a Vista Ultimate box that I use as my media center. I have a notebook with Windows 7 installed on it that I would like to use as a media center extender. Is this possible?
For the life of me I can't seem to figure it out. My Vista machine hasn't given me the notice of a new media center PC on the network like it does when a new Vista media center shows up...
    Appreciate any guidance....

Hi there, I asked the following question over at the Windows 7 beta QnA and got silence, and from what I am reading here, I thought perhaps you could answer. This may be an odd place to post new questions (in mid-discussion) but it seems on topic, and I didn't want to waste readers' time by posting a new topic.
Will Windows 7 stream to another PC or "Play To" recorded TV files that were recorded using WMC?Will
other Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP PCs be able to play
recorded TV streams from a Windows 7 machine over a home network?
    If
so, will those PCs be able to get all the show info such as title, time
and date, episode summary, etc in order to navigate and choose the
    correct recorded TV episode?
Another, similar question is will Windows
7 be able to act as a software-based media center extender for another
machine (Windows 7, Vista Home Premium or Ultimate, or XP MCE) running
    Windows Media Center?
One more question is...is any of this possible in Windows Vista? I have one PC with Vista that I use as my media center/DVR and my other systems in the house are running Xp or Mac O/S. I can share and then access the recorded TV folder via my network and play the files on the other systems in the house (yes, even the Mac) but I don't get any of the fantastic WMC front-end UI, which turns out to be more than just a pretty wrapper slapped on it, because it also gives specific episode names, recording dates, and episode summaries, and groups the episodes per series(if desired). When combing the files via a network share, the naming convention is all convoluted and the experience is not very intuitive. I could use an extender such as the xbox 360 to watch this stuff on tv, but it is more convenient to watching on my computers.

  • Low DVD and Media Center TV Vol

I am having a volume problem with DVD movies and Media Center, particularly TV. Sound quality and volume in other applications is great, but if I try to watch TV or a DVD at the same settings I can barely hear the audio.
I have a new Dell XPS 400, running Windows XP Media Center 2005. I have an Audigy 2 ZS soundcard and Dell 5250 5. surround speakers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

you should also look through the TV@nywhere forum, applies to all MSI TV Tuners
i think the first thing you should do is update your TV tuner drivers...

  • XBox and Media Center on Boot Camp

My PC just died so I installed Windows 7 on one of my macs and really all I use it for it Windows Media Center to stream movies to my XBox 360. I went through the windows 7 install and all was good. When I tried to get my XBox to see the media center, it would not see it. Is this just not compatable?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

I tried doing a search and found nothing. The link you gave does not help either. I know how to set up the xbox as an extender. Was working fine when I connected it to a Dell with windows 7. Now that the dell died I moved windows 7 to my iMac with boot camp. Now it will not connect. I try to connect but I am never given a code. Its like the xbox doesnt see the computer. Is there something extra I need to do being that this is on mac hardware? Is it just not compatible?

  • Mega 180 and Media Center III----looks perfect----is it??

I DON'T want to shell out $1000 for cheap HP/Compaq or whatever which includes Media Center Edition
But I DO like the look and features of Microsoft's Media Center Edition.
In the Manual for the MEGA 180-----Media Center III looks perfect for what I want.
Am thinking of a Mega 180 using onboard video, the MSI TV/Tuner Card, onboard SoundStorm---and a cheap Barton.  I already have 2 x 512 of NVidia recommended PC2700 RAM for use with the onboard and almost all other parts----but by the time I'm done----I'd be shelling out around $400
The manual makes everything look good "on paper"----but I see from this forum their are "issues".
Did/does MSI support the 651 model well??  Bios updates----utility and driver updates??
This thing looks like a tremendous alternative to a Microsoft Media Center Edition overpriced machine.  And I'm willing to do driver updates and Bios updates----heck, I love a challenge----I just don't like a product that lies about what it can really do.
    Worth it----or should I pass.....
    Thanks-----John

    Good Luck,

I believe that function is only for viewing the videos from the preview window to fullscreen. I don't think it enables/disables "stretch mode" but i'll try that tonight.
if it works i'll post it here. if not ... well .... same thing i guess

  • Bootcamp and Media Center 2005

I have a full version of media center intended for any pc and whenever i try to install it on my macbook pro via leopard, the entire install process will go through, but after install i boot to windows and i get a disk error. Any ideas. I was able to install this exact same OS via the bootcamp beta, and even after the upgrade to leopard, the MCE 2005 os worked. But after i did a comlete os install of leopard, i can no longer use leopards boot camp to install this os successfully. Any ideas, or where can i get a old copy of bootcamp beta?

I just installed Windows w/Media Center 2005 on my iMac core2duo 2GHz 2GB ram with Leopard two nights ago. I received the same issue on my first install attempt. Boot camp creates a Fat32 partition, so I used the convert to NTFS when I installed Media Center. I thought it worked until the restart. I had to reformat the partition NTFS and install again. This time with no problems.

  • FIOS and Media Center

My Media Center PC has lost the TV signal, and will not configure.  TV tuner card supports digital tv, card is working, and replaced the cable, but still no signal.  Verizon support wasn't terribly helpful - any ideas?  Could the switch to all digital last month now require a converter/set top box, even though the tuner card says it supports digital?

The over-the-air FCC shut-off boxes receive 8-VSB DTV and convert it to NTSC. FiOS boxesreceive 256-QAM DTV and convert it to NTSC. They are absolutely NOT the same. On the bright side, up to three are free from Verizon, AND they receive any SD signal you are subscribed to on your regular STB, not just the Off-Airs and PEGs. It is a GREAT deal. Get some before they start charging. I think they will just send them to you if you ask.

  • PSE 8 and Media Center DVR-MS files?

Though familiar with image editing in Adobe PS from 4 through CS, I am new to video editing and looking for the ability to edit the nearly 1TB of tv shows I’ve recorded with HP Media Center. Presently, my main interest is to edit out commercials and save (MPEG2… or better?), take brief sections of streaming video to edit to use in sigs and also capture single frames for captioning in humorous forums (any extra editing capabilities would be a plus). Was told by Abobe software advice/sales that that PSE 8 could read my Media Center DVR-MS files so I downloaded the trial version. When I click on ‘Get Media fom – PC Files and Folders’ the only files that appear under ‘All Supported Files’ are the ones I previously edited with my Sonic DigitalMedia Plus v7 and saved as MPEG2 movie clips and when I switch to ‘All Files [*.*]’ and select a DVR-MS file get ‘Error – This type file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed’. Now either I was given misinformation by the rep or I don’t know what I’m doing (which is most often the case).
Though my SDMPv7 is easy enough to crop out crap and capture stills, it takes about an hour to save a 2.5GB edited file to HD, was hoping for something faster. Might just be my old HP AMD 64x2 – 2.2 GHz 2MB, 1024MB 400MHz, 400GB internal HD can’t save it any faster.
Also, apparently Media Center will only play DVR-MS files and though Windows Media Player and Realplayer will play MPEG2’s the fast forward and reverse options are not functionable.
Any help/advice (other software?) is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try downloading the trial version of PRE and then import the file.PRE has more video capabilities than PSE

  • Mac mini server and media center

I recently purchased a Mac Mini Server for a few reasons.  One being to put all my music, video and photos on it and play it on my TV via the HDMI cable.  I also want to share that music, video and photos with my wife and my daughters over the network.
So mainly one video, music and image library shared with a MBP an 3 MB's on my network.
Also most if my video is from our iPhones.
I'd also like to put all my home movie DVDs onto the server as well.
Ideally all the data on the server can be played on the TV and all 4 Macs at the same time and it will be organized and easy to access.
Any ideas of what I should do?   I know iPhoto won't let more then 1 user at a time have access so that's out.
If you have any ideas that would be great.
    Thanks,
    Darren

iPhoto should really just be for still images. I don't think the automatic media scanner expects to see videos there. (This would be true of most 3rd party media center applications).
For further assistance, you might wish to consult on the Plex Forums on their website. I'm sure your feedback there would be appreciated.

  • Problems w/ TV Tuner Card and Media Center

    Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem:
I just installed the FX5200 TDR-128, with the TV@nywhere card, and the Media Center Deluxe II. I can't get the tv stations to work in MCD II. It works great with MSI PVS software that came with the TV Tuner card. When I go into the "Watch TV" menu of MCD II, it brings up the tv screen but it is all garbled or sometimes a blue screen. I changed all the settings to the appropriate formats and it even has the channels that were scanned in the MSIPVS program. Does anyone know what is causing the channels to not work in the Media Center Deluxe II? Also there is a switch on the VIVO connector that has two settings "Safe" and "Work" what does this switch do? I can't find anything on it in the manual that came with the video card.
    P.S. The remote works great.

    CPU: AthlonXP 2400+

Check out the new release 3 upgrade here
It has solved almost all the problems described here.  Just came out today too.

what nvidia drivers are you using here? need 53.04 or later for MCE support
does any video play, Live TV, DVD, other video? make sure you have a compatible MPEG2/DVD decoder installed (PowerDVD 6+, WinDVD 6+, Nvidia PureVideo Decoder etc)

  • MEGA MPC 800k and Media Center problems

Just upgraded to the MSI MEGA 800k replacing the noisy old bax I was usung for my Media Center PC.
Currently having a TV recording issue.  the system performs perfectly well recording if left alone, and you can watch the program being recorded without any problems either.  However if the live TV is paused or I watch another program whilst recording the recording develops a stutter that makes it unwatchable.
After trying many fixes suggested by Media center forums, I think I've narrowd it down to one of 2 issues.
Either the HDD cannot handle all the the simultanious reading and writing required.  (Seems unlikely as the system could manage it and the only difference was a seperate HDD for the OS)
Or its a conflict between the AGP graphics and the PCI TV tunner.  Both are set to IRQ 15, which while this presents no conflict to be reported in windows I suspect that having to share the IRQ is causing the two cards to interupt each other and cause a stutter on the recording.
Is there any way to change the IRQ assigned through windows XP?
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks
    Neil

Using an ATI Radeon 9550, latest MCE drivers.
After switching to a SATA drive and creating seperate partitions I have reduced the problem to a point where it only stutters occasionally.  But I would love to be able to change either the PCI or AGP IRQ allocation to see if this eliminates the problem.  Any ideas?

  • TV@nywhere and Media Center

Does the original TV@nywhere (Not Master) work with MSI Media Center?  I get nothing but a blue screen on the TV while MSIPVS works fine.
If anyone has it working, what MC version?  What settings?

    Hi Bas,
    thanks for your answer.
DVB-dream is a software to view tv on your PC. I want to watch blueray, radio, tv, watch pictures,... -> HTPC.
For this MCE is a nice standard software. I thing the problem is not MCE but MSI! After the message "... no signal.." the MSI software have to be start under admin rights to work. For me this is a hint to a bug in the msi driver.
