SSD at SATA3 o n HP Pavilion dv6500

Can I upgrade my HP Pavilion dv6500 with an SSD running at the SATA3, (6.0gb/s) or will it only run at SATA2, (3.0gb/s)?

if your motherboard cant support sata3 which it cant in this case i belive a sata 3 will run at sata2 speeds
however it will still be faster then your hdd

  • HP Pavilion dv6500 Entertainment Notebook PC series Operating system not found

Hello to all how are you doing guys doing today I'm having a problem and need the help from the tech world. So i have a Hp Pavilion dv6500 cto notebook. I started it up and got a black screen stating "Operating System Not Found". I couldnt get into safe mode to recover back to a safe point, i was able to get into the bios system to do a memory and Hard drive test, my memory test came back as a Pass but my Hard drive came back as a fail and stated "Replace Hard Drive".
Now i went out bought a new WD 500GB 5400rpm hard drive for the laptop, i installed it and did a Hard Drive test to make sure it was good and the test came back as a Pass.  Now i had this laptop for years since 2007 and it broke just a few months ago, i just got the new hard drive yestarday and was playing doctor last night. When i got the laptop as a gift i was only given a recovery disk which did boot up and gave me the install now option and repair computer option. I chose the install now option and it was starting to install but then got this error message "Windows cannot open the required file D:\Sources\Install.wim. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070002." I read that you cant install windows from a recovery disk so now im back to square one.
So current status is I got a new hard drive that pass the bios test, memory test was a pass. I have no windows disk other then the windows vista recovery disk i tried but failed to install windows. I also tried a windows 7 disk from work but the disk wouldnt boot up came back with a message stating that disk couldnt be read there may be problem with the cd dvd drive or hard drive, but when i put in the windows vista recovery disk that boot up no problem. i just cant install window with it. So Im stuck with a black screen stating no operating system is not found. Note that i havent change the boot up line up back to hard drive to see if it would boot up the new hard drive but i dought it would change anything since its a brand new hard drive with nothing on it.
If someone could help me with step by step like how to get an operating system on my new hard drive. My wife has a laptop but with no cd drive so i would need instruction to boot get it on the usb. Hope i was helpful with my problem.

You have only tried questionable disks. You could order a recovery disk from HP but I am not even sure they still have Vista recovery disks. You could also buy a Windows 7 OEM disk and try that. it will cost you a bit but will be legal. What version of Vista is it? You can also try to find a Vista install disk and use the Key Code on the bottom of the laptop if it is still legible. Here is a link to downloadable .iso files you can use to make a Vista install disk that will activate with your Key Code:

I have a problem with my CD/DVD drive.
My hp pavilion dv6500 laptop is not recognize the drive, dos not show up in the device manager, I right click on the IDE adapters to scan for changes, I hold down the F9 to see the start up order of the drives it’s OK accordingly to factory settings and I would like to ask some one help or advice what to do. My cd/dvd drive was working when I installed the new operating system from the CD on the new WD SATA hard drive. I have not portioned the new HD during installation of the OS because I need all the space on the HD. When I checked the drive letters I only have seen a C drive. Missing the call letter for the CD/DVD drive ‘example E’ for the cd/dvd drive.
The commuter is running great now, but I using an external HP CD drive to install all my software. I using the Driver Detective software to trying to detect the cd/dvd drive, but it’s useless. I do hear the drive when I put in a CD or DVD it is connected to the internal power source, but not been seen or recognized. If any one can help I would be very grateful. [text removed for privacy]

    Hi,
You could try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
If the above fix hasn't worked, try the following.  From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Click to open the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.  Right click on the first channel and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When uninstalled repeat the process for each channel.  Also if an ATA controller is listed, right click and uninstall this.  Again, do not delete drivers if asked.
Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  If your optical drive appears here, right click and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.
Restart your PC and let Windows re-install these devices.  Give it a minute or two, then see if the drive is working.
Let me know how it goes.
    Best wishes,

  • DVD drive not recognized because of a registry problem (Code 19). HP Pavilion dv6500

HP Pavilion dv6500, upgraded several years ago to Windows 7 32 bit. In the past few days I have noticed that the DVD/CD-ROM drive does not appear on My computer/ Windows Explorer. I also incidentally noted that my program "HP Total Care Advisor" no longer works: "HP Advisor has stopped working" is the error message I get when I double click the desktop Icon.  I have made no changes to the computer, nor have I installed any new software shortly before I noticed these problems.
I went through troubleshooting for most of today. The DVD drive does appear in BIOS and in the Device Manager. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the device and it's drivers. I believe the correct drivers are present but cannot be installed. I believe the problem is expressed in the following error message which I have obtained: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because it's configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (code 19)."
When I saw this I thought a restore of Windows would do the trick. I went back to Feb. 1, 2012 but that did not help. Then I reversed that restore and went back to Jan 25, 2012. That did not help, so I reversed that restore and gave up on restore.
I have no experience in the registry, so if the solution is to make changes in the registry, I will need very specific instructions.
    Thank you,
    Allen Worrall

I did some further reading in the forums and tried a few things What fixed my problem was reinstalling iTunes because they just updated last week and that is when my problem started. After i reinstalled through the control panel (repair install) it worked again,

  • Hp pavilion dv6500 upgrade to windows 8 64 bits

hi guys i have an hp pavilion dv6500 laptop with 64 bit processor and i want to upgrade it to windows 8 64 bit but during the installation am asked to select file or insert cd containing the drivers before proceeding with the installation. can anyone help me with a link to download these particular drivers please.....

Have you run the Windows 8 compatibility checker?
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-from-windows-vista-xp-tutorial
Open the Device Manager and see which devices are installed. That is important and will save a lot of time. Verify the wireless and wired network interface devices. Otherwise we will have to find out what they are the more difficult way.
You can install and run CPU-z  to find out which chipset and graphics device is installed. Use the tabs.  Once we know those, then finding the drivers is a possibility. The notebook may be a bit far back in generations for Windows 8, but Windows 8,1 does have a large builtin driverstore so it is a possibility.

  • HP Pavilion dv6500 strange fan noise after boot up

    Hi everyone,
I've got problem...when I boot up, I can hear strange noise which comes out from the laptop fan. It sounds like a loud buzz or something like that and appears only after boot up and lasts approximately for 2 minutes, then disappears.
I've already tried to clean the fan with air compressed can, but with no luck. Then I completely disassembled the laptop, unscrewed the fan and heat sink from the motherboard, cleaned it  and replaced the thermal grease on the CPU and GPU. Despite of that, the noise appears again.
I know that this model is five years old, but if there is any other option than replacing the whole fan with new one, I'll really appreciate it. Thanks for your advices.
    HP Pavilion dv6500 (dv6680ec)
    Ubuntu 11.04 32bit / Windows 7 32bit
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 (1,5GHz)
    GeForce 8400M GS
    2GB RAM
    160GB HDD
    15,4'' Screen

    What should you do?
Whatever you want, I personally sold the laptop for 700€ and bought the cheapest new Asus 15” dual core laptop I could get for 300€ and you know what... it s working great for a year and a half now and most important ... QUIET so much that I didn’t hear it even once for now even when watching HD movies or doing a 3D games, and I really mean it NO SOUND AT ALL! …
Happy forever, but it was a great lesion for me with HP Pavilion "quality" products.
P.S. One another thing, build quality is even much better at laptop for 300€ not to mention the Pavilion for 700€ where all the so called chrome decorations almost fallen off,the DVD tray or slot had strange alignment to the whole laptop (little bit cranny) and so on…. Bottom line it’s too much fragile.
HP is for me forgotten story, period.
    Have a nice day.

  • SSD Caddy Sata3? L530

    Hey,
i have a Thinkpad L530 and since i dont really need the optical drive im thinking to replace it with an Caddy like this:
    http://hddcaddy.com/en/lenovo-ibm-hdd-caddy/290-lenovo-thinkpad-l520-l530-l512-hdd-caddy.html
So i can keep my HDD and have an SSD for the OS.
So im wondering if the optical drive is Sata3? So if i put the caddy inside, if it will be connected via Sata3 aswell, to get maximum speed.
    Hope someone can help me.

  • HP Pavilion dv6500 recovery system error 0x400100200001005

Hi, I have HP Pavilion dv6663cl notebook and the drive broke. It can not be recovered thus I replaced with new retail drive.
I run the recovery system from dvd but failed at 51% and gave the error 0x400100200001005. I tried several times but it always failed at 51% and same error.
I run hdd diagnostics from bios and the new hdd passed.
The recovery dvd was created with the original hdd. I used it before and it was successful to do recovery on the original drive.

    Two possible causes.
1-Is the new hard drive at least as large a capacity as the original? Can be larger but not smaller.
2-Is the new hard drive an Advanced Format hdd-usually stamped with AF on label.

  • Built-in microphone on HP Pavilion DV6500 not working in Windows 8

    Hello,
I would like to know why my built-in microphone does not work after I installed Windows 8 Pro 32-bit on my HP.
Please note that before on Windows 7 the microphone did worked.
    Service tag dv6551ea

    Windows 8 Pro 32-bit
    Thank you!

    Hi  ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion g4-2020tx Notebook and Bluetooth not working. Here are some links that might help.  I would check to make sure Bluetooth is on. It shows you how to do that under Connecting Bluetooth. A device such as computer might need to have the Discovery setting turned on. To turn on Discovery in Windows 8, from the Start screen, type Change Bluetooth to open the Search charm, and then select Change Bluetooth settings from the search results.  Hope this helps. Thanks.

  • Is the Kingston SSD 240GB Sata3 2.5" SSDNow V 200 compatible with a LATE 2011 Macbook Pro 13?

I need to know if it is 100% compatible and not give me problems in the future.
    I hope some help, thanks!!!

Kingston Hyper X is compatible with your Macbook.
Another SSD to look at is the Samsung 830 Series and Sandisk Extreme.
There are a few of us here using the Crucial M4.  I have the 256GB and 512GB Crucial M4 drives.
As for the RAM.  You can use Crucial, Mushkin, Corsair and Patriot.
I use Crucial on my Late 2011 Macbook Pro 15 Inch and Patriot Signature Series on my Late 2011 13 Inch Pro.
Both are 16GB with no issues.  Patriot Signature Series is currently on sale for $100 (16GB)....Not sure which part of the world you live in so can't give you any stores that sells them.
In any event, good luck with your transplant.

  • [SOLVED] Microphone not recognized on HP Pavilion dv6500 series

    Hi.
First, I would like to thank the people that maintain Archlinux, it's the first time I really enjoy a linux distribution that much !
Besides, the few problem i've ever had have been solved pretty quickly by searching solutions on this (or others) boards...
    Except for this one :
I can't get my microphone to work. Worst : I can't even get it recognized by alsa.
I'm working on a laptop : a HP Pavillion "dv6599ef" (dv6500 series). I know the sound device on this laptop is not really linux-friendly ; last year i've spent days just in order to enable the sound on Ubuntu...
Here on Arch the sound worked immediatly (even if phonon says that no, but it works, that's pretty funny !).
But the microphone (it's a stereo mic integrated near the cam, cam that worked immediatly too) never worked.
Besides, I have absolutely no idea how to fix that and I've never found anything about it. I've always used generic drivers, so I have no idea what specific driver should be installed... (Even the officiel HP page just mentions classic "Realtek AC" something drivers.
Does anyone have an idea ?
    Thank you.
PS : sorry for my approximative english, I'm french !

Sorry for the double post, in fact there is no problem...
I just discovered that the default mic was "hw0,6" which was... my integrated RNIS modem !
Actually, hw0,0 was the correct microphone and was always working.
I just had to install audacity to find it ; (in fact, I always tested on other softwares such as aMSN, where I could not really manipulate the settings as in Audacity.)

  • Pavilion dv6500 Optical Drive Problems

    Hi,
I have a laptop dv6500 with a DVD/DC Optical Drive from LiteOn model DS8A1P that came with the system. Suddenly, the drive can only read DVD's but cannot read CD's, even manufacturer's softwares or legitimate music cd's.
I went to the Driver/Firmware page with my ServiceTag and the firmware listed for an Optical Drive shows a different model...and even if I try running the firmware, it's telling that the target drive couls not be found.
Again, in my Device Manager, it shows as Slimtype DVD A DS 8A1P ATA Device and says that it's working properly.
I'm running Vista Home Premium 32-bit.
    Any help would be appreciated.
Should I try upgrading the Bios?

I can try this, but be fore I do it, I should tell you that I tried the instruction in this article:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01532060&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3552676&lan...
I was able to read the disc from the command prompt, so I'm assuming it can be a software or firmware issue.
I also tried a system restore without any success....what if I re-installed Vista, is this a waste of time? I also upgraded the bios...
Last thing, the drive is spinning when I insert the CD but but fails to be read!

  • Laptop Pavilion DV6500 not starting

I have a HP Pavilion laptop DV 6500 running Vista 32-bit.
The last time I used it, a week ago, it worked perfectly. When I tried to start it yesterday, all that happens is that all the LEDs ll flash once briefly and it does not start. I have tried the following:
    (1) To boot it with only the battery;
    (2) To boot it with only the mains power supply and with the battery removed, and
(3 ) With both the battery installed and plugged into the mains supply.
    (4) I have done the above with a suitable new mains adaptor.
    (5) I have disconnected it, removed the battery, and held the Power On button down for a minute.
When it is connected to the mains, the blue circle around the plug lights up.
Please help -- I am a pensioner and I need this laptop, and I really cannot afford a new one.

    Hello flopez559,
Once you're able to actually boot up, we will be able to run some hardware diagnostic tests from your computer using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI. Testing for hardware failures. After following the steps from that link, and you need to update the UEFI, click here.
Let me know how this goes.
    Thank you,
I worked on behalf of HP.
