Ssd compatability Pavilion dv6-3118sa

I have a Pavilion DV6-3118sa laptop and the hard drive has died without warning. I am trying to find out if I can take this oportunity to replace the failed drive with an SSD.
Does anyone know if the machine is compatable with SSD's . I'd like to replace with an SSD of the same size as the original HDD (500GB).
Any help would be much appreciated as there is no useful info in the HP support area of their site.

Thank you for your reply. I suspected as much but it would be good if there was something somewhere that listed compatible or non-compatable devices for SSD's.
I know it could be a lonk list, but I'd prefer if someone "in the know" sayts so, especially when the cost of an SSD is so much.
The drive is for my wifes machine so I wanted to get the biggest drive I could, within a price range, ao she doesn't worry about running out of space.
I'm in England and got a 480GB Crucial drive from Scan for £220. More than I wanted to pay but it's done now. I closed my eyes when I clicked the buy button.
Thanks again for your reply.

    Hello  ,
    i have Pavilion dv6-2174ca.
     with windows 7  64-bit
recently , since 2 days i start get the message of Hard failling...error SMART 301 .
my question , if i buy SDD to replce the HDD , will it be okay for my laptop?
like if i got the Samsung 840 pro 256gb SSD
i'm worry if my laptop will be older , and will the SSD will not work with it
Thanks in advance for the help

Be sure and buy the  SSD drive with the cloning kit. It will make life easier. Without the cloning software and cable, upgrading to an SSD is generally a command line procedure using the DiskPart command-line utility and not as easy for many people.

  • Put SSD to Hp Pavilion dv6

    Hi,
I know I have to put the SSD in the main caddy and the HDD wil be put in the optical bay.
Is it compatible with my notebook?

I have a new Hp Pavilion dv6-6c06eh notebook.

No the ebay item you have linked is for older laptops that use an ide optical drive. The adapter allows a second SATA hard drive to be used with an ide optical drive interface. Yours is a SATA optical drive. The connector would be different where the device plugs into the laptop.

    Hi,
Yes it does. You can use Samsung, SanDisk, Crucial. I have not had any luck with Intel, Kingston, OCz therefore I can't tell.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl Notebook - Internal Hard Drive Options

    Greetings,
I just purchased an HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl Entertainment Notebook PC (at Costco), and so far it's been a great deal. Everything seems to be working just fine.
Because I do a lot of development work in Virtual Images, I have been running a number of external Hard Drivers from the notebook over the couple of weeks since I've owned it (including an external SSD). All that seems to work fine.
But, I was wondering if anyone knows whether it is possible to install a second Hard Drive or SSD in this Notebook Model. I saw on the HP site that some Notebooks allow the installation of a second Hard Drive, but I couldn't find any information on this model that would suggest it can handle such a configuration.
My primary objective for doing this would be to retain the original 1TB Hard Drive that came with the Notebook, but have a secondary SSD Drive to perhaps run the Paging activity from, when such functionality is needed upon running some of my larger Virtual Images.
Any assistance with clarifying if this is an option with the HP Pavilion dv6-6c53cl would be very much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Wayne

I would like to add a 2nd hard drive (preferably SSD) to my "HP Pavilion dv6-6188ca Entertainment Notebook PC"
I am hoping there is an option to at least replace the DVD drive with a hard drive caddy?

You could put your install disc on a USB Flash drive with Disk Utility. Also, here is the USB optical drive enclosure I bought. He raised the price a few bucks. Mine ran $10.00 with the shipping.

Your notebook has a Mobile Intel Series 5 chipset.
That chipset is only capable of SATA II transfer speeds.

  • HP Pavilion dv6-6b00ax Entertainment Notebook PC upgrades....

Hello experts, HP workers or anyone who's willing to help me.
I have a couple of questions, maybe more later, but for now these are it:
    - On the manual, found on this page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=au&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=5178920&softwar... which will lead you to here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03015537.pdf ...it is correct to assume this manual's for dv6 in general and therefore all dv6 models can support a maximum of 8GB of DDR3 PC3-10600? ....or is there a more *specific* manual for this "particular" model....? *Apparently* by Crucial from here: http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=DEE286FEA5CA7304 after using their *System* scanner, it reported it supported up to 16GB of DDR3 PC3-12800....I want clarification on this....And this is the only model that's close to the one I have right now: http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Pavilion%20dv6-6b06sa but not quite exactly my model so I don't know which to *believe*.....Crucial's "Guaranteed-compatible with the Crucial Scanner Results HP Pavilion dv6-6b/c (AMD DDR3)" or HP's manual even though it;s not so...in-depth or specific as I thought it would be.....
    - And the other question was regarding SSDs; it says in the manual that only if you have an *intel* CPU that you able to use an SSD with this laptop(As you probably already know, this is using an AMD A6-3140MX CPU so I am not able to make use of an SSD for this laptop?), is this correct? Because I would have presume that you can use SSDs on any computers using *any* CPUs....
    Cheers,

  • Pavilion dv6-7090el Upgrade?

It comes with 8 gb of RAM which is maxed. The CPU is fast already and an upgrade would not be worth it. The video cannot be changed. The hard drive could be replaced by an SSD and that is going to be a very noticeable upgrade. I personally have had great luck with Samsung 840 SSDs, either the Evo or the Pro series. The Evo is mainstream and the Pro is kind of pricey. But there are a lot of very good SSDs out there. If you need any more help post back.

  • Dedicated Graphic Card Failure (ATI) - HP Pavilion DV6

    Hey guys,
I have HP pavilion Dv6 which have AMD Radeon Graphics card(may be 69xx or 74xx radeon series 1Gb ddr3).
    Currently i have installed Windows 7 & Ubuntu(Dual boot).
    Problem:
I was playing NFS when the system froze,so i turned it off forcefully, after that laptop always get stuck at windows logo.I also tried to switch the (bios)dynamic option(graphic) to fixed,in this option i do get past the logo but i am presented with blank screen ,in short no luck.
However i have managed to get it to work with ubuntu with intel default video card , through advanced recovery option.
What can i do to use some how similar approach for windows 7 i.e disable dedicated video card?
Can Graphics card can be repaired/changed easily?
    Thanks

Have you checked the hard drive using Diagnostics in BIOS? Or F2 immediately after power on? (F2 may not work if you deleted the Diagnostic partition to install Ubuntu)

  • Pavilion dv6-3130tx Blue Screen (BSOD) on adding RAM to second slot

    Hi there,
I own a HP Pavilion dv6-3130tx with total of 3gb of RAM, one 1GB chip and one 2 GB chip. Recently I have been getting a lot of system crashes/freezes and occasional Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) with a variety of error messages. On contacting HP care in India they said to check the RAM chips and the slot for any problem. I have identified that the second slot is one creating the problem as the system crashes if use any one of the chips on that slot while both the RAMs work fine on the other slot.
Additionaly the RAM port/slot cannot be replaced as such, and since it is out of warranty getting the motherboard replaced isn't an alternative either.
So does anyone have any idea what might be the best way out of this problem?

Did the 3GB of RAM come with the computer or did you upgrade it at some point?
What version of Windows are you using?

  • How do i clean the air vents on my hp pavilion dv6 notebook pc?

Latelly, the fan on my HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC has been noiser than usual and it appears that my notebook becomes quite warm to the touch. The HP Support Assistant running on my notebook PC recommended that I can reduce the heat and fan noise  by cleaning the air vents. How do I do this? Can I do this myself or do I have to have a professional do it?

    Hi Rosie,
You can clean the vents on your notebook.
Buy a can of compressed air.  Essentially, you need to gently blow out the vents with the compressed air to clear out the dirt and dust.  You need a can with a small straw like attachment for the nozzle so you can point it directly toward the vents.
Do take a look at this document first so you know which way to point the air and how to avoid damaging the fan inside the notebook.

  • Problem With Pavilion DV6 3052nr Recovery Manager!!!!!!!!

    1. HP Pavilion DV6 3052nr
    2.Windows Seven HomePre OA x64
    3. On Recovery Manager : I Deleted all of my parttions on my hard disk. then when I used recovery disks to restore it to its factory set , after extracting the image files on disks to the hard drive , system restarted and boot to the Recovery manager with " Restore Incomplete " error. Just help me,pleaseeeeeeee

    Hi:
You may have to purchase a set of HP recovery disks or if you can read all 25 characters of the W7 product key on the bottom of your notebook (DON'T POST IT), you can do this...
If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • Hdmi video and audio for hp pavilion dv6 1050us does not work

I'm trying to use my hp pavilion dv6 1050us notebook with a TV Philips model 40PFL8605D using a HDMI cable but nothing function: can't get the image displayed at computer on the TV display. The HDMI cable  and the same TV were tested using a ASUS notebook and everything worked all rigth: video and sound. Then I concluded that the only possible source of problem is my HP pavilion dv6 1050us notebook.
    Can I get some help?

    Hi (:
I frequently play The Sims 3, I have all, but myabe 3, extensions. And I have a Pavilion dv6-6c15nr Entertainment PC. Now I was wondering, is this a bad idea?  Occassionally, my games will freeze and even just completely glitch within the game, sometimes unallowing me to save. It's very frustrating, especially when you get so far. My question is would it be better to just get a gaming pc and leave this one to surfing the web and doing school work? Or is this one good, and can I download or buy something to help my computer maintain or improve its performance?
